Contra, easily one of the most popular NES games. I haven't played it in a long time until just a few days ago, when me and a friend started playing. I decided to do a speed run and here it is :D. Slipped a couple times in stage 3 and in stage 7 Should have skipped the B as it took too long and I really didn't need it. Oh well, enjoy. - เกม

I remember during the waterfall stage you always piss off the other player when you go up too fast and kill them, then you get into huge fights about it.

Carlos Santander, During the start of the game when the title is moving across the screen, quickly push up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, start (or select, start for two players). I've had this code memorized since I was a kid. I thought everyone knew about it. Let me know if it works for you.

Carlos Santander, I'm glad it worked for you! I feel old with my memory slipping. I could have sworn it was 40 lives, but now that I think about it, it is 30 lives that you get. My, what time can do to our memories!

Try Shadow Complex, from Epic Games. Its so cheap and its from 2009, 2D shooter metroid-vania style, Its a must buy

Along with practically everything else, I especially loved the sound effects in this game, so damn awesome, it certainly draws you in (cant help but love the machine gun shots!)

The mind-blowing graphics, the intense symphony-like music, the incredible back story and constant danger. This is the greatest and most epic video/human interaction ever engineered by human kind.
This brings back so many memories. This game was perfect. The music was awesome. I remember always thinking, why not just blow up the island in the first place? I was probably 10 or 11 back when this came out
Had to watch this after watching that horrible Today's Teens React to Contra. So painful. Thanks for cleansing my soul.

one of the best features of this game is the music, i can remember loving the first level, and the ice levels music as a kid. still sounds epic today.

I was always impressed with myself if I could be this with the 30 lives cheat. Just goes to show you what a whole bunch of practice and some raw skill will do for you. Congrats man, this was awesome!
I still remember the cheat code for this game. Up up down down left right left right b a b a start... 30 lives and I could conquer the game. What a classic this was. So many memories of my childhood.
Man. This is OG speedrunning. 13 years ago. Such good quality too. A lot of older speedrun vids were filmed with Potato Engine 4.

The ammo that starts at 39 seconds was my favorite. I used to avoid upgrading to the laser (I think that just happened @ 58 seconds too?) just so that I could keep that ammo, sweet ammo.

I remember completing it in co-op after so many tries. And this guy made it look like it's nothing.
I love it when the character jumps (and spins) but the direction of the shots can always be controlled.
We had this back in the day. I apparently got some messed up glitch every time I tried playing it. Every time... EVERY TIME I would be stuck in the first stage for HOURS just walking straight forward. I thought until recently that it was just messed up, but my brother said he beat it several times. Me? I just walked straight forward... no enemies, no things trying to blow me up, no possibility of falling... just straight forward.
The cartridge was corrupted, and the data couldn't load.
Except that my brother had no problem with it.

Fastest I ever beat it was 8:30 or so. Also I looped the game 17 times and had over 50 lives built up without Konami code. After the 9th time through the game you will only get an extra life from killing the heart at the end and the aliens are indestructible. No turbo controller, just my turbo thumb. Games score maxed out around 13th time through. I am Bill Rizer and I have a problem : ()
the base levels in this game always annoyed me. not that they're hard, they're just not as fun as the platformer sections.

That’s why Super C went with the overhead levels. Then people got all nostalgic about it, so they brought back base levels in Contra 4, but they were vastly improved.

I never figured what those people in the base are doing... they're not even attacking... they're just running into the bullets
including the alien's lair stage were these pink vagina lookin creatures just spread out.... i don't know what the star things really are but they'e super easy to dodge them

Thats a framerate glitch (the game runs at 60 fps but the video is in 30 fps)

Something is very bizarre about this video. The first Rapid power up exploded on its own, and Spread shots aren’t initiating in 5 directions. Spread is only supposed to fire in fewer directions when there are more than 5 but fewer than 10 bullets already on the screen.
Also note the alternation of Spread shot directions going left then right in stage 2. This is not at all what happens on the NES version.
The biggest clue that something is wrong is that the wall guns in both bases never fire toward the player at angles, but just straight ahead.
Please justify these discrepancies. Either your emulation is faulty or your game is modified.
Compare with a recent Contra video on my TH-cam channel, recorded from my iPad, playing the NES on a CRT TV to see the differences I am talking about.
It's probably because of NES sprite limit. One scene that convinced me was the boss fight on Stage 4 (Base2), the heads didn't blink at all and suddenly they appear to be teleported here and there.
Y H You May be right on that point, but the wall guns in stages 2 and 4 never do what they’re doing here. They’re only firing ahead and never toward the player. No sprite limitation would cause this particular anomaly, so I still think either the emulation is faulty or the ROM itself is corrupt or modified.
I’m not taking away from the skill of the player, but something in the description needs to say this isn’t being played on an original cartridge on an original NES.

The two men back to back on the menu both look like John Rambo and Commando. Considering those kind of movie first started in the 80's like this game.

Victor G. no turbo control here, just the spreader and rapid fire power ups.
He is not using turbo. Turbo shoots and feels very different. Try NES emulator with turbo turned on and you will see.
