Samuel Goldwyn and Director Howard Hawks took the script they had with Billy Wilder and remade "Ball of Fire". They changed Gary Cooper's gang of professors studying English slang to Danny Kaye's group studying music. Virginia Mayo now playing the part Barbara Stanwyck had in "Ball of Fire".
Danny Kaye and Virginia mayo made a great 👍 movie 🎥 go with the sound of music 🎵 combined with comedy to greater heights! The other actors and musicians were good also! A brilliant film directed by Howard hawks and the writers ✍️ who penned it! 😊😊😊😊❤❤
I have to admit with a lot of films remade within sometimes only 10 or 20 you would think this film would be remade and updated with rock and rock or now include hip hop, especially with gangster rap or shady business of the music business I could see it work and I know technically this is a remake of the 1941 film Ball of Fire but with a music twist, unless there is one just thought Balls of Fire could have worked with rock and roll but that time has passed so hip hop would make more sense as more up to date
BILL DE ARANGO - the most UNDER-recorded jazz guitar genius evvuhhh @ 26'20 ( few secs only), just one lp !!! Despite talent. Life can be very unjust !!! Also: AL HENDRICKSON - the same fate @ 50'43" - just sessions, no albums.
According to Wikipedia (I know, but it seems to be a halfway reliable source with something like old movies...) he had just had a divorce, and his ex had been the one who wrote his songs before. He didn't want to sing anything not written by her, and was, according to the director Hawks, a "basketcase" during most of the filming.
@@pohjanakka4992 Yes, I read Wik for almost every movie I watch. On biography they can dubious, as Jimmy Dore and Guy R. McPherson have complained. And as for politics, it has been claimed that government agencies like the FBI and CIA have people salaried by us taxpayers whose job it is to edit Wik entries to conform to hegemonic interests. 🙏🖖💕
T hat we have Billy Wilder and Howard Hanks involved must have made the choice for Danny Kaye and all jazzmusicians rather easy. Of course, some parts are racists But Hollywood was always slow.
Lovely, lovely Virginia Mayo ... and what a galaxy of musical greats assembled in one picture. A right real treat this is.
I do like the historical overtones. Makes it timeless! This is a great movie! Love it❤❤❤
Danny Kaye wasn't himself at time of shooting of this movie
This movie is a pleasure to hear all the music/man, just GREAT HAWKS..

Very much enjoyed this movie. But did not like the ads. Mel Powell at the piano looks just like Jerry Lee Lewis.

38:02 ... hmm ... some people could learn from that remark 🤔
A Danny Kaye musical in which he does no singing
This is NOT a musical - it's a film about music. Music is the central theme.
@@charliewest1221 Wikipedia, the American Film Institute, TCM, imdb, AllMovie and ChatGBT all agree that this is a musical.

@@pohjanakka4992 Danny Kaye was kind upset in the movie because of his divorce with his wife
