Impossible to heap sufficient praise on this gem. Thank you.
What unusual, witty sense of humour! Simply love it, thank you!
Our pleasure!
A sheer delight. Best romantic comedy i have seen in ages!
Love George Brent - in everything !! Dramatic, Comedic - He can do it all!
Agreed!
Brent was Bette Davis' favorite leading man.
The dog is named after French Renaissance scholar, physician, diplomat, Christian humanist & satirist of the grotesque with his larger-than-life characters in his novels, "Gargantua and Pantagruel." His anticlericalism, free thinking & bon vivant lifestyle came into conflict with his ecclesiastical training as a Franciscan novice. Although not under Holy Orders, he resided at the Convent of the Cordeliers before leaving the Franciscans for the Benedictine Order where he worked as the bishop's secretary. His legacy as a Christian humanist in the vein of Erasmus was his belief in the primacy of scientific & artistic reforms as well as the Roman Catholic Church's return to its origins as depicted in the Gospels.
Revile is my favorite actor in this movie 🍿. He’s a wonderful actor. 🐶🐶🐶🦮🦮🦮😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
"Oh, are you a debutante, dear?!
Yes. I came out in '38 and I haven't been home since" 🤣😂🙏
i know lol....and the look on the one old lady was priceless.
I think you are reading something into.thatbtgat wasnt implied," coming out " is a relatively recent term and would not have been what she meant.
@@Lazydaisy646 No, YOU were reading something into it because I'm certainly aware that term was not used back then. I took it to mean she was still out partying.
George Brett what a wonderful actor he was ! 4:20 I love all his movies❤
Trivia from IMDb - This movie was based on a story written by Vera Caspary. In 1947 it was serialized in magazine Today’s Woman. She was one of the screenwriters for this film. Vera Caspary had earlier success with her novel Laura. It became a hit movie starring Gene Tierney and Clifton Webb.
*Laura* one of my faves. Gene and Clifton are wonderful together in that, throw in Dana Andrews and you have a
*masterpiece!*
Laura is one of those classics that I can watch again and again. Gene Tierney was mesmerizing. Everyone else was perfect. Well written, and directed. Everyone should get their due. Bravo!
Thanks old movie fans love trivia❤
Thank you for all the info.
Laura was Great. I haven't seen this one yet. Oh, he forgot the sugar. Yes Dear
The theme song, "Laura", was one of the best ever written for a movie and it became a jazz standard. You need to listen to the impeccable version by Ella Fitzgerald, which is better than Sinatra's.
What a great movie, thanks for posting.
Ann Dvorak deserved an academy award for this performance! Possibly the best comedic performance by an actress I've ever seen! I loved this movie!
I’ve seen this movie before…, but it’s worth a second watch! Great old fashioned comedy! Ann Dvorak was the perfect actress for the part! Thank you for sharing this with everyone 🌸
That was a great movie. Thanks!
Good, fun movie. Anne Dvorak was so funny and a scene stealer
The song written for this movie was also entitled Out Of The Blue. Henry Nemo wrote lyrics and Will Jason wrote the music. The woman singing it was Hadda Brooks. She also recorded it with her group the Hadda Brooks Trio.
Thank you for this excellent information. 🌹
If I Hadda Hammer... 🎶
This is like a noir gone wrong. The nightmare keeps dissolving into farce. Very funny.
Love this classic screwball comedy ❤😂
This was a gem 💎
Thank you so much for the upload!
No worries, thanks for watching!
That a hoot. Thank you for sharing. 🤩
Our pleasure Elaine!
Play it again Sam. 😢😢😢One of the funniest 😂 and humerous movies reminds me of one of the saddest ending movies 😢🍿that I’ve ever seen. 😢😢😢🥺🥺🥺😩😩😩🍿🍿🍿
Hadda Brooks singing ''Out of the Blue''' a nice treat. Zany but delightful film.
The car used to transport “the body” was a 1947 Buick convertible.
Excellent upload, Retro Central. Did anyone notice the poodles embroidered onto that hat brim at 9:10?
Yes, I did.I love poodles as pets, but on clothing, not so much. Poodle skirts, sweaters etc...Too Laverne and Shirley.
@@user-ck5ye5xr9fI had a sweet toy poodle, a rescue dog. He was my best friend. I have a chihuahua now, Coco, who is getting very old...she's still a sweet thing...🥰
A really nutty, fun film! Everyone in it was great, but I especially enjoyed Ann Dvorak showing her comic side.
Kind of fun to watch George Brent in out of character movie which goes to show he was a wonderfully talented actor in everything he did.❤
Excellent!!
Very creative entertainment ❤
"Arthur Earthleigh isn't even a name. It's a lisp!"
Looking forward to watching. I need a good laugh.
I really wish we had grammas and aunts and elderly neighbors like this, now women in their 60s look so young.3:20,i never see eldely women like this anymore.
True, I'm 63 and people are always telling me how young I look. It isn't something I work at, just good genes, staying active and eating right.
Beauty and fashion don't have to go out the window just because you get older.
What a romp! So fun to see usually-serious George Brent in a comedy. Olive was hysterical. Thank you for the upload!
Nice Movie
Worth Watching
13:47 oh boy !!! Air Conditioned STEAKS !!!!! My Favourite !!!!!
I saw this before but going to watch again. I enjoy this film, it's funny and fun.
Delightful!
So unusual to see George Brent in a comedic role. I’ve never seen this movie and really enjoyed the comic relief.
One of the nicer comedies I have seen so far suitable for family consumption
So arthur goes out and cheats on his wife that he shouldnt have married if he hated her, then gets rewarded for throwing a temper tantrum ruining her things and cheating on his wife? Did we all forget that he was perfectly happy thinking he murdered a woman and hiding her body?
This is a wonderful movie! I saw many of them on TMC, however they start to charge excessive charges, understandable with cable TV.
I too, enjoyed TMC movies on cable, namley; HBO, which was also expensive, nevertheless classic movies are more artistic in dialogue, content, and context than modern films.
I haven't had cable in over a decade. I don't miss a thing. I have broadcast television and the internet allows me to see content like this on my television. I've saved a ton of money. 😏👍🏽💯😎🌹
George Brent is "cute" as the inadvertently philandering husband-in-the-city-while-wife-goes-to-Connecticut (proto Tom Ewell, "The Seven Year Itch", , but wowza, it's Turhan Bey rockin' those opening scene short shorts and in other gorgeous costume changes that captivated my eye! lol
👍👍 I Luv the Oldies
What a farce❣
Really fun upbeat movie thank you!!!😊❤
SPLENDID...THANK YOU...❤
I Love it! Espetacular!
Terrific--TY!
The ads make up most of it..though otherwise very good..I feel sure I've seen it before.. bears repeating.
Such a thoroughly enjoyable movie !
I've NEVER seen this movie and I'm a connoisseur of B&W movies. I adore the dialog. I was going to write that I hated the ending as a 21st-century woman, but then I heard Virginia Mayo and thought, YOU GO, SISTER!
why because the married woman is doing a wifely loving thing for her husband?
@@tinkerbell2675 Why did you ask if you already knew the answer?
@@rachellee.9389 What are you talking about
I bet you are a strong and independent woman
What a lovely movie, I enjoyed it to the core, beautiful dames too
Lotsa giggles this movie
Yes, I laughed so hard, many times! Well written, directed and acted. A gem.
Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful film they dont make them like this anymore they really dont.
OH MY G....This is so funny. Thank you for posting it.
Hilarious movie😂.
George Brent in a comedic role? He can’t be more funnier than when he did Christmas Eve in a segment with Joan blondell-but Virginia mayo, Ann Dvorak, Carole landis and turban bey were great in this flick! I saw Ann Dvorak in some films 🎥 she did with James Cagney like g- men- I’ll oiled. I liked that one! Thank for the upload! 😂😂😂😂😂
Turban Bey. I love it!
@@akrenwinkle I meant to say turhan bey!
@@randytracy1742 That's why I love it. In your mind, he wears a turban.
@@akrenwinkle yeah, very funny! 😄
Thanx
Barrel-a-laughs! 1940s style!
1:17:32 what about the Police ??...they can get their own dinner...
DElightful♥️😎👀👀
wonderful.
Sure looks like a young Benny Hill.
He does!!!
Im looking forward to this
Ann Dvorak's as Olive Jensen made the movie, she was a delight.
❤'d it. 100% pure entertainment! Thanks Retro.
This is a good movie.
Crazy movie. Glad Miss Dvorak wasnt killed. Shes like a bad penny you just cant get rid off.
17:20 20 years to paint her !!??!! I hope he used latex paint. ... Why ???? So she could wash it all off of course
The character Mae Earthleigh was played by Carole Landis. Sadly, she committed suicide by overdosing on Seconal. That happened in July 1948. She was only 29.
It wasnt suicide
It was shortly after this movie was made. That is sad.
@@gerica82 It sure was. These things are easy to look up.
EXQUISITE🌼🐻❄🌼
The only george Brett movie where they needed his perfect looks
Super CUTE MOVIE 🎥 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
Who is the murdered woman?
Ann Dvorak? The actress playing the part of Olive. She was perfect for this part 🌸
@34'42" MAYO LOOX DIR @ the cam 4 2 secx. This has she in her prime, rite after her best work evvuhhh in THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (1946) by the 99 take W.W.
Excelente; filme!
Por favor en españoll gracias
12:12 All he had to do was insult her, and she couldn't do enough for the man. Ladies, this is classic gaslighting. Don't fall for it. Keep walking.
4...............................
His wife was annoying to me. She was to demanding, controlling, and a bit nosy herself. That other chick is annoying as well. She should have just left and he shouldn't have kept letting her do that to him. Smh.
the three of them are One Sandwich short of a picnic
Brent 2x as old as Landis🙀
💚🙏😇🙏💚
Dvorak like composer
Absolutely ridiculous film
Wotta script...brilliant action and acting. 1:25:20
Ann Dvorak was loud, nuisance initially but stole the show in the end
😅lol

NOIR COMEDY
I don’t like George Brent in Romantic movies.
Turhan Bey was not handsome enough for leads
And Mickey Rooney was.
Seriously? Your tastes run different than mine. I find him very handsome 🥰
Olive, the most annoying character. A parody and a farce. No LOL, just SMH and RME b/c of Olive.
