Love this movie. Cooper and Stanwyck always had great chemistry. The seven professors (dwarfs) were fantastic. So many great character actors. There was a remake with Danny Kate and Virginia Mayo in 1948, "A Song is Born". Several well known jazz musicians were in that movie.
There were some pretty good ones in this film too: Gene Krupa Orchestra - with Gene using matches and a box (without setting light to them till the end
When she says "i'll get you on the Ameche" referring to the guy who played the guy who invented the phone refers to Don Ameche in Alexander Graham Bell. Its a great movie! I cant believe i knew that😮 it's on YT. I recommend it!
@@johnsmith-ht3sy Ameche is an actor who played Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone. Are you referring to the black man, Lewis Latimer, who Bell hired to do the patent drawings? @@fractal1133 Thank you for the information, I was tongue in cheek mocking our woke BBC here that makes up erroneous history. Trunk calls are from my childhood and indeed mean a long distance phone call, usually overseas. No idea where it originated from.
Hi! It's been such a struggle to find certain vintage films on my usual streaming sites, so you have no idea how excited I was to see this film uploaded here. Thank you so much.
Clarence the Angel, who did not have his wings yet, is playing one of the professor's .Gary Cooper was a woman's man, but he always came across as a heart full innocent man. That makes him so lovely 😍👍👏👏👏 watching from Germany 🙋❤
Such a charming movie, so much so that you forget that it's as old as it is. Every person could do with those eight wise & adorable "squirrely cherubs" in their life. I know I could. 😊
This totally brilliant film is one of the best sound films ever made< and what a cast, everyone is perfect. They don't make them better than this, it's perfection all the way around. And that ain't hay brother!!!
Opening prologue: Once upon a time - in 1941 to be exact - there lived in a great, tall forest - called New York - eight men who were writing an encyclopedia. They were so wise they knew everything: the depth of the oceans, and what makes a glowworm glow, and what tune Nero fiddles while Rome was burning. But there was one thing about which they knew very little - as you will see . . .
This is a great movie. I’ve seen numerous times and never get tired of it. The actors and actresses are great. This is one of the movies I watch when I need find something that pleasant to to watch and hear. No horrors or thrillers. It’s not a slapstick comedy but it’s entertaining in a good way. I hope it stays free for a long time. Thank you 😊
Anyone other than me notice that Alfred Newman seems to have been responsible for a ridiculously vast amount of film music for the first few talkie decades?😱
It's so sad that they are not able to do this today. We don't have talented enough writers and actors to create such an entertaining movie and maintain a "G" rating.
I'm having such a good time watching this. Cooper is "on his game" and Stanwick the perfect "foil". I know I'll watch this again - as ithe "stang" is going faster than I can understand. Thank you for this superb upload. The first time I've seen it. D. age 75, Dec. 19, 2024
I adore this film. All the old professors are such darlings, and I recognise them from so many other films. Cuddles Sakall from "Casablanca", and Oakar Homolka had a career right up into spy films in the 'sixties.
IMDb Trivia: *Kathleen Howard was left with a fractured jaw when the punch that Barbara Stanwyck threw accidentally made contact. Stanwyck was reportedly mortified by the incident. *When Gary Cooper is taking notes of the newsboy's slang, the marquee on the theater across the street advertises Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), an inside joke that refers to the script's inspiration. *Lucille Ball wanted to play Katherine 'Sugarpuss' O'Shea, as she thought it was the kind of role that would win her an Oscar. She fought for the role and was eventually hired, but once producer Samuel Goldwyn found out that Barbara Stanwyck was available he gave her the part instead.
mann i hope they make the modern version of this 😂😂 edited : wait, nevermind today's movie industry just gonna ruin it like they always do to masterpiece from the past.. 😂
There are no actors alive today who could pull this off. Besides they would turn it into queers and the proffessors would be women of all nationalities and the house keeper trans the crooks would be some made up thing no one except the 3% would recognise. Rotten Tomatoes would say it was great and the people would stay away in droves. Is this what you had in mind?
"This is 'yum' and this is 'yum yum'"! They don't make them like this anymore...
No they don't
😔
What a treat. Howard Hawks and Billy Wilder in one film, with Cooper and Stanwyck in lead roles. Thank you for making it available on TH-cam.
❤👏👏👏
One of my favorites haven’t seen in years!! Old guys are so cute and Cooper and Stanwyck are so young and in their prime. Just an adorable movie.
Yeaa, for me is a Snow-White mann and 7 midgets .
What a treat. Add Dana Andrews to the list below and many character actors. I love movies from the 30s and 40s,
Which actor was Dana Andrews? I remember my mother always talked about him.
I never tire of seeing this movie.
In addition to Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper, we get Gene Krupa too!

Black history month the BBC showed that the telephone was invented in Africa by Ameche via trunk calls.

Quite entertaining. Barbara Stanwyck was so charming. Another good performance by Gary Cooper

What an unexpected, irresistibly goofy, and remarkably entertaining film.... A real old fashioned treat!!!!!!!!
Such a charming movie, so much so that you forget that it's as old as it is.

it still works--watch Big Bang theory.
@@celticpridedrums : Sheldon does speak like one of the guys. But they lack the charm of this film. It's more aggressive modern American humour.
Stanwyck & Cooper make a beautiful couple 😊
Thank you for a great movie 😊
A thoroughly charming movie. What a great ending
"Scram. Scraw. Scrow."
"See! The complete conjugation!" 🤣🤣🤣
"Shove in your clutch, for instance."
Cooper made a great ditz in this one. Haww
Replaced by “ slow your roll”
Hard to believe Gary Cooper as a professor, but he was great!
That was one of the best films I've seen in ages - simply gorgeous and wonderfully acted by all. Thank you so much for posting this one up here...

Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Dan Duryea...zowie, what a humdinger!
What does humdinger mean

It's so sad that they are not able to do this today. We don't have talented enough writers and actors to create such an entertaining movie and maintain a "G" rating.

We are blessed today with wonderful slang in Hip Hop , Rap, Garage and Grind noise.
There wasn't many black people in movies those days

I remember reading "Tiger, tiger, burning bright" in 1978!

Ball of Fire. Release Date: 1941 December 2nd.

They already did, oh, about 7 years later with Danny Kaye and Viginia Mayo: called "A Song Is Born". Also features the same actress as Miss Totten.
How about The Big Bang.

Just good fun!
WOW Gene Krupa in his early days, was he ever fast on that drum solo! Barbara looked pretty good and I saw other actors I knew wow so long ago
Thanks for the chic movie❤
The only distraction in this fine film is the dubbing of Stanwyck’s. Voice during the Drum Boogie number. They should have had her sing it herself.
