    Very thorough and informative video! I especially enjoyed the tour through your “bag of many things”. Your explanation about how you handle periods was appreciated. What did your bag weigh when fully packed out?
    I was also wondering about what you brought for outerwear. Did you bring a rain jacket? I noticed you didn’t have any long sleeve shirts. What do you wear when it geos chilly? Also, links to items you recommend would be helpful. I’m particularly interested in your Pacsafe day bag - what model is it?
    I’m surprised you’ve never used your spork. Single use plastic utensils are something I want to avoid using so I carry and use my spork all the time in my everyday life. Whenever I get takeout, I refuse the plastic forks and spoons. Having a spork also makes spontaneous picnics from the supermarket much easier.
    Thanks again for a great video!

    • @onebagoneworld
      @onebagoneworld  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello Amie, thank you so much for watching the video!
      In terms of the final weight before we left for our 2 year journey, it was about 10.5 kg without my day pack. It has changed a little bit though given that I have sent some of the heavier stuff home ( too warm for some of the items). I haven't had access to a scale yet but once I do, I will add the new weight to our updated video here in about 2 months :)
      Fantastic question about outerwear! I had the Arcteryx Kyanite which is SO amazing, but unfortunately, it sat it my bag and took up most of the room during our time in Europe when it was averaging around 90 degrees F everyday so it made sense to ship it for the moment. I did, however, purchase a rain jacket in Greece which I will also explain in my updated video. Its been an awesome little purchase! For other times when I get chilly, I just bundle up in all of my summer clothes. Not the best option, but makes sense for right now! I will purchase some warmer items once we get to colder places ( probably going to be Vietnam).
      My Pacsafe model is the Venture SafeX Anti-theft 6L. LOVE this bag! I also checked the Vibe 325, but didn't like the carry as much. Other items I recommend, I actually have quite a few accessories that we didn't realize we would love as much as we would. Stay tuned, we are making a video about them soon!
      Thank you for being one of the people that avoids single use plastics as much as you can! We are kindred spirits :) I do this as well! I think we haven't really had a chance to use the spork as much as we want to. In Iceland, they are extremely green conscious, so they only had wood and bamboo utensils, or we ate in restaurants which of course had reusable metal utensils. In Europe, we never got take away food so we never needed them. In Turkey, again, we wouldn't get take away food and if we did it was only ever a Kebab which we eat with our hands anyway, so its perfect!
      Thank you so much for your thoughtful questions! Stayed tuned for the other packing videos :)

    I guess for the menstrual cup it depends on your flow, personnaly I can spend a full day without emptying it so it can wait until I come back to where I spend the night. But on my "normal" life I use period underwear more often than the cup now, and as I am preparing for my next trip I was wondering if it was worth the space (and it is more of a hassle to wash than the cup, or normal underwear. But maybe I can pay for a laundromat once a month). I guess I will see how much space I have left when I put everything in my bag !
    Thank you for showing a WOMAN one-bag long-term packing list by the way :) I appreciate it.

    Liked the video! I'm currently on a 2 year trip but sadly have more stuff. We are going to cold places as well as hot and doing hiking. So I need cold weather gear + hiking poles + boots. I've got an osprey 70l (57 main pack + 13 day pack)

    • @onebagoneworld
      @onebagoneworld  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah hiking or any sort of activity makes things a bit harder! Temperature can sometimes be handled by thoughtful layering but not always. We actually brought rain gear and boots for Iceland knowing we would leave with them family in Switzerland because they are just too bulky to carry around with a 40l backpack. Impressive you are doing it all with 70! The boots themselves take up a huge amount of real estate.

    Hmm. You make some interesting points about the diva cup. I guess it depends on what parts of the world you're doing and the type of travel you're doing. Sounds like you were backpacking in Asia? Also I guess I'm pretty lucky that my periods are a lot less heavy than they used to be. I can generally go 8 hrs without needing to empty my cup and for heavy days I just wear an organic cotton pad for extra insurance. I think I'd still take it with me, even in Asia, and just use bottled water for it (gotta buy that anyway) and in Europe I'd just use sanitation tablets in the hotel water to clean it (not for drinking, been there tried that, but happy to double the required quantity to ensure sanitation - doesn't matter if it leaves an iodine residue on the cup, that's totally safe)

    • @jule124
      @jule124 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I travel with my cup and I don't really trust the water. I rinse it an then go over it with a cup/disinfection wipe. In a pinch, it's also okay to clean the cup with toilet paper and then go over it with a wipe, I'd say. Then wash it with soap when you're back at your accommodation.
      Although I don't have to change them for at least 6-8 hours, which makes it even more chill. LOVED the cup when scuba diving as well. So much more convenient than a tampon!

      Hey! We actually did bring winter clothes but left them in Switzerland either family since we were in summer for the next 7+ months. Check out my 6 month bag update for how it progressed and some warmer clothing I purchased for the colder weather.

    Why didn’t you go for farpoint 40?

    • @onebagoneworld
      @onebagoneworld  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually took the Farpoint 40 when I backpacked through Thailand for the first time. Right off the top of my head, I hate that the laptop compartment wasn't right up against my back to help with the overall structure and weight distribution of the bag. I also didnt like that it had two water bottle pockets in the front. I thought that at least one of them would have served me better as a pocket with a zipper but more importantly due to the bulge in the bag they never seemed to fit easily.

    What about travel in winter/cold areas? the Himalayas/Andes, etc? No coats/jackets or sweaters? Fleece/down jacket, wool mittens, socks and beanie? Those things take up so much space! And living in hostels, don't you need a sleeping bag? Been travelling quite a bit around the world myself, and I find that color-coordinating the clothes is a perfect way to get many different outfits from few garments. Also, what about modest clothing that many islamic counties require? And how do you keep your passport/insurance/drivers licence safe? What about waterproof stuff, like windjackets, hiking shoes etc?
    Kind Regards from Cecilie in Norway 😊

    • @onebagoneworld
      @onebagoneworld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Cecillie Yeah the winter wear is always the hard part about one bagging. Sticking to one season is definitely the easier way to do it, but overcoming this challenge has also been a fun part for us. Layering is crucial so picking up some baselayers from uniqlo (I talk about this in my 6 month bag update) will be key in helping us stay warm. I also grabbed a down jacket from Uniqlo and I have been using the fleece we picked up at a Decathlon as a mid layer.
      Sleeping bag has actually never been an issue for us. We have both done some traveling across europe and asia before and neither time did we ever use our sleeping sacks or bags. There has always been some accommodation with bedding everywhere we have been. I think the first place this might be an issue is Mongolia if we do an overland trip, but then we plan on picking something up and donating it when we are finished.
      Yes exactly! Color coordination/having a capsule wardrobe are your best friend. I really like the 30x30 challenge, 30 items for 30 days. I think it's a great place for people to start thinking about how to onebag while not one bagging.
      For modest clothing in Islamic countries You can almost always cover up with a shawl/sarong/shemagh. I plan on picking up a shemagh when we get to Oman/Egypt and that coupled with leggings and a t-shirt that covers my shoulders should be fine.
      Waterproof gear is a mixed bag when one bagging. Even in the ultralight/thru hiking community people are starting to lean more towards quick dry than waterproof gear. The issue is if things get wet that are waterproof they take forever to dry. We like to stick to a rain jacket approach and borrow an umbrella if there is one available. Otherwise we just get a bit wet and then leave our things out to dry although it really hasn't been a problem so far. This is for city travel though, hiking is another story :)
      So in general I will say security is not much of an issue. Just to play it safe though we do have clothing that has zippered pockets where we carry our day to day cash and I have my pacsafe bag which holds our passports and credit card. Since there are two of us we leave backup credit card + the other persons credit and debit cards at whatever hotel we are staying at. This way if we lose anything we still have other ways to get money. We also upload photos of our passports, vaccination records, and licenses to the cloud as well as keep copies on our phones.

  • @SSBMA1994
    @SSBMA1994 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow how much money did you set aside? Just curious

    • @onebagoneworld
      @onebagoneworld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Our goal is roughly 125$ a day but western Europe in peak season + expensive places like Iceland broke that a bit so we will see how long we are able to continue. The goal after SE Asia is to be back on track or maybe closer to $100 per person per day since we are flying more than taking overland transport which obviously ups the cost a decent amount as well. I think you could easily do what we have done for $60 per person per day by staying in hostels and using cheaper forms of transport!
