Just going to say it, it's much easier to pack in a carry-on when you're a size 0 influencer and all your clothes are tiny and you're going to a warm climate. Also if all you're doing is walking around and touristy things. If you do any kind of outdoor stuff, or don't wear the smallest clothing, or you need warm clothes, your suitcase will get heavier very quickly.
Actually not that hard, you just have to be mindful of the material of clothing you wear. I stick to light but warm materials like merino wool, cashmere, alpaca, linen, viscose/modal, down, moisture wicking synthetics, typically no cottons unless it's voile fabric. These either don't need to be washed often or are super quick drying. I also wear multi use items and focus on accessories to give my outfits a little something something. All my heavy items I wear to the airport and divest them once I go through checkin.
Ditto! I’m a size 4 and most of my clothes are small and can fit in a monos. I’ve also invested in high quality material so that I can stay cool in warmer climates. I tend to stay away from cold countries. LOL
It’s definitely harder when you’re bigger but it can be done. I’m a size 24 and did 2 weeks in Spain last November carryon only. It did involve either washing/febreezing and rewearing some items (though not as many as you’d think, I managed to fit 10 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 bras and a weeks worth of socks and panties into one side of my Beis carryon). If I had decided not to bring an extra pair of shoes and less makeup or if I had gone to the max with my personal item instead of just bringing a large purse, I might have been able squeeze in enough extra clothes to have avoided most of my rewearing. Lauren from the channel It’s the Kellys is a size 18 and travels exclusively out of a carryon, even when she travels to cold destinations. Her packing videos are great to get ideas on how to pack light as a plus sized woman. That said, I’m much less concerned about weight as I tend to fly a US airline to Europe and then take the train once I’m there so that does make it easier. I also travel with minimal tech. The most I bring with me is an iPad, but honestly I’ve started questioning the wisdom of even bringing that when I spend way more time with my phone.
The climate you’re traveling to makes the biggest difference. If your packing shorts and tanks, no matter what your size, it’s going to take up less room that sweaters as and scarves. When I travelled to Europe this fall, I had such a hard time finding packing videos for cooler weather. They all packing for warm times of the year and tropical destinations.
I love how real you are. As a big girl, its frustrating to watch all the "pack with me" videos from tiny ladies who can literally fit thier whole wardrobe in a carry on.
Fortunately, there are any number of plus size ladies and gentlemen out there who give their own version on how to pack. It took me several attempts to just realize my clothes were somewhat bigger than those of the travel gurus I was listening to. I thought I was folding wrong and the fact of the matter is I simply have more material to work with. Not sure why it took me so long to realize that. 🙃
@@Be.My.Driver to be very honest I packed my husband, myself and my 10 month old baby for 2 weeks in 1 carry-on and 3 personal items (one smaller - 5kg max, for the baby). I am European small/36, my husband is European XL/42, and baby needs usually way more items than adult. We also couldn’t put a lot in personal items because we needed food for a baby for travel time.
lol that was funny but I do travel with only my walking boots and a cute pair of flat sandals. I also leave my purse and only have a very small fanny pack for my documents, money and cards. I’m just not a girly girl and my husband appreciates that we don’t travel with huge bags 😂
I got super anxious and nervous for you. I’m goin to SXM for 7 days and I have a carryon and a checked bag… I’ve packed and repacked several times. I know there’s laundry facilities but I feel like I won’t have everything I need. Love your video!
I live in Europe and fly carry-on only all the time with airlines that have a 7kg weight limit. I don't think they have ever weighed my bag. I have, however, had it weighed in the US and Asia. I usually take the largest possible personal item and try to put my heaviest items in it because they rarely weigh that. But, I think the real "key" is to ACT like your bag is light. When you handle it or pick it up, pretend like it weighs nothing. Sometimes I will throw it around a bit in front of the people who look at the bags to make it look lighter than it is. Works every time for me because it is almost always overweight (sometimes significantly).
I used to live between Paris and Copenhagen and AF never put any carry on on a scale however, during super busy periods airlines such as Norwegian would systematically weighed the bags.
It’s funny you mention AF. They were my first experience with having my bag weighed (flying out of CDG heading back to the states). It has scarred me from flying on them since they combined the weight of my carryon and personal item. But I might try them again if you’re saying that’s not common practice
@@FlirtingWithTravel it's probably because of your suitcase. I usually have my samsonite and just a small handbag and they do indeed tend to weigh bags that are overpacked and / or oversized.
Meh I’m average and how I pack light is ONE pair of jeans, ONE nice pants, One light skirt. All my travel shirts are very lightweight, like the shirts used for fishing, and I can wash them because they drip dry overnight. I’ll bring one long sleeve, two short sleeve and some layering tank tops that I can wear with any of my bottoms. I only bring one pair of good walking boots and one pair of sandals. I only carry basic toiletries. It helps that I don’t wear a lot of makeup. Lipgloss and eyeliner plus my sunscreen and moisturizer. I wear my travel sweater (lots of pockets) and have a packable rain jacket. I never travel with purses, have a very small “fanny pack” for my documents, cards and money that stays on me under my shirt/top.
They aren’t lying. Being able to get under the weight limit is a matter of compromise. If you don’t want to compromise by taking less clothing and not bringing makeup, that’s well within your rights, but don’t go around calling other people liars. I traveled around Japan with one pair of shoes, and would layer all my heaviest clothes when on a plane.
This was so real-I did a ‘rehearse’ packing a few months back to try the carry on only method. I did manage to do it, but it was so stressful and in the end I was like f*** it…I’ll check one bag and bring a small carryon with me with my toiletries and a change of clothes in case my luggage gets lost-just wasn’t worth the stress and aggravation.
We've been there during our 1-bag-carry on-only journey. My longest (6weeks) travel in 11 countries and 9 flights with 5 airlines, so I had to fly with the requirements from the airline with the smallest size and lowest allowance. So many people have already given great tips. For me, I would add that i had a breakthrough when I listed the packed items with their weight (a spreadsheet). The spreadsheet was initially slow to compile, but it's been the most useful (for me) first thing I do when packing. In the spreadsheet I highlight the most valuable items, and then I go through a process of elimination untill I get to the needed weight. It takes the 'emotion' out of packing for me. I've been traveling for 10 years with 1 bag only (with some exceptions) and it is a stress free way to travel. Good luck in your journey! We all have different needs when we travel!
I do the same - the spreadsheet really helps. I'm going to Paris for 8 days next week and only using an under the seat bag - this includes my 5 lb CPAP machine in it because I'm rooming with someone not my husband. Layering is key and wearing the heaviest items on the plane. I bring laundry sheets and wash underwear every few days. Merino wool socks can go 10 times without washing. I just bring 2 pairs and wear my compression socks. If I'm over weight, I put a few small heavy items in my coat pocket (like external battery, toiletries, or kindle, etc) and later just put it into my bag. I do a dry run at home using my travel toiletries and only take 2 more days worth of toiletries at the most. I bought assorted lightweight containers from Amazon (they have held up well). Even for my leave in conditioner that I need only a pea size amount, I just squeeze a little in a snack sized zip lock bag. every ounce counts. I've done 6+ weeks in Europe with only a regular sized carry on back pack and no personal item (stuffed in the backpack for later use). As an older plus size woman, I normally keep my backpacks to less than 15 lbs.
I watch a lot of packing videos and it's usually capsule wardrobes for skinny people and one piece of tech. This was so honest a real it doesn't seem real to be able to travel with one bag
Check out the laundry sheets because they not only are lightweight but you can tear off only what you need to use. I have been using Tru Earth for years and they dissolve without leaving any residue.
I am a "seasoned"(senior) citizen and I'm travelling more than ever before. I love cruising, so after many cruises, I have learned a few things. I can't lift a carry on up to the bin on a plane, so I check my main bag. But, I've had flight problems, so my personal item bag has to hold what I'd need for a day or so. Toiletries, a ziplock bag of laundry on the go, my meds (prescription and OTC), a change of clothes (or 2) and in flight necessities are a must. I have just switched to a rolling under seat bag that is so much easier on my back and joints than carrying a large tote. It still has the sleeve to fit on the larger suitcase, so it's easy to navigate in the airport. It worked to England and Scotland for 10 days last summer, and on a 7 day cruise in the spring. Off again in a few months!
@@jcastagnola5653 I’m old enough that my meds have their own rolling bag, lol. I strictly use TravelPro. They have an awesome little roller bag that has fit under every airline seat I’ve tried. I use their Crew 5 as my carryon though they make a lighter spinner bag that I’ve traveled a lot with, too. American Tourister makes a great personal item and carryon bag as well. My in laws, who travel extensively, have switched to travelpro from American Tourister as their old bags finally died.
I use the Briggs & Riley Rhapsody Wheeled Cabin bag. My Mom has the Briggs & Riley Baseline Cabin Spinner. We both transitioned to these b/c totes and backpacks were no longer desirable due to the weight and back fatigue when carrying them while traveling. We love the bags and they come with a lifetime warranty.
I currently carry the Samsonite 4 wheel under the seat bag with trolley strap. Reasonably priced compared to Briggs & Riley. It was less than $100. Had it for 3 years now and still going strong for this galloping retired traveler.
I would cut jeans, fleece lined pants, and thick chunky sweaters. Take up too much space and weight. Replace with thinner options made from a merino wool for warmth and less weight or thinner materials with base layers underneath (like heattech from Uniqlo) Add down jacket, coat, or vest they weight nothing but are so warm. For shoes it will change your aesthetic, but swap out leather sneakers for lightweight trainers. I had some tree runners from allbirds that were so light, but you can any light running shoe.
As a flight attendant my off duty travel suitcase is a delsey. Hard case to protect but very light. I carry a book bag for all my tech, and a compression cube with one days worth of clothes and my toiletry bag and tech items. I use a small crossbody nurse/sling that can fit my book bag if needed but most of the time they don’t say anything. I definitely carry more stuff than you I just use lighter bags.
We might have the same bag. I love it. And I pack the same..large “purse” bag that holds toiletries and electronics. Some airports do weigh at gate for carry on😱. I go carry on with the two bags, and have never been stopped.
Hi! I’m a flight attendant as well. I’m in need of a off duty suitcase. What model delsey do you have and what backpack do you use? I’m still learning how to pack efficiently as a new flight attendant.
I never thought of the weight of the carry on!! Thank you for pointing that out. ALSO, thank you for going through the process of repacking and weighing.
This was such a wonderful and SUCCESSFUL packing video! It was great to see your process. It was great you showing all your considerations and all the pivoting you had to do to make it work. Even your frustrated cursing was great to see :-) I agree that the weight of the bag itself and the other smaller bags is the number one consideration. I just did 2 weeks in Europe with a backpack and I'll never go back. Traveling lighter is now an obsession. My tips are: 1. Bare minimum toiletries in the lightest weight containers (I'm talking ziploc bag light) Anything you can buy at your destination, like sunscreen and soap, just do that instead. 2. Lightweight shoes (I had two pairs in my backpack but they were very light) 3. Maximize that personal item (which you did, but I was waiting the whole video for you to get to it, lol) 4. Minimize the tech (you don't travel to be on your computer for hours, ditch the extra one. Same goes for extra tablets, chargers, smart devices, etc.) 5. Don't pack ANY just-in-case items. If it's not likely to come up, it's not worth bringing. And if you need it, it should be easy to find at your destination. 6. Laundry strips for sink laundry. Washing up undies, socks and undershirts in the sink was an absolute game-changer! Bring a small clothesline to airdry and you're golden! Happy travels!
#1 is so true! And seriously if you're flying from the US to anywhere else and would normally bring sunblock - just buy sunblock. Every country has better sunblock than we do, the US hasn't allowed new formulas in decades and I'm at the point where I want to bring a whole suitcase with me just to bring home sunblock because it's so much better everywhere else (think transparent, extra protection, smells good, and doesn't break you out everywhere)
Haha, we might need the story behind knowing a small furry animal fits in the pocket 🤣. I’ve been recommended the Scottevest and might need to get serious about it.
@@FlirtingWithTravel I have a Baubax 3.0 jacket. I’m around a size 20 women’s clothing and wear their men’s 2X. It has amazing pockets. I carry my wallet in the zippered pocket, my phone and kindle in the inside slip pockets, and there are so many more pockets that I don’t even use!
I just bought a takeoff jacket and I can't wait for it to arrive. It seems like it'll be good for carrying an iPad or laptop. Update: the jacket fit my MacBook and ipad
I watched a video by Sarah murdoch. She is affiliated with Rick Steve's. It is 1 hour 13 minute presentation she did 7 years ago. What she does is goes into the bathroom and puts everything on, no joke. After she gets weighed, she will go back and remove everything and repack it in her backpack. She only travels with a tiny backpack and even carries a pillow. Btw, pillows dont count as luggage, so alot of people will stuff a pillow case with clothes. Also, hiding a smaller backpack on your front or a larger fanny pack under an over size hoodie i have seen done as well.
I love the video where Sarah weighs her clothes piece by piece. Silk weighs less. Her underwear is hilariously thin but weighs nothing. Check out her tips. She’s 6’ tall and packs as a tour guide in a small bag. Crazy cool.
In Australia, we've always had to deal with weight restrictions whether we're travelling domestically or internationally, the majority being a 7 kg weight limit. The key is taking a leaf from the ultralight hiking community, primarily cutting weight from your one heaviest item, your bag. I use an ultralight hiking backpack which has a 40 litre volume and weighs 800 gms (the Durston Kakwa) bonus it's also a thousand times more comfortable to carry than actual travel backpacks. If I'm using a suitcase, it will be a Samsonite (c-lite or the 72 hr range) which has the lightest rolling luggage on the market at 1.2 kgs. They can be pricey but because I travel a lot, it's worth the investment for my convenience and peace of mind. Also taking a leaf from the ultralight hiking community, I wear mostly merino clothing items on the layers closest to my skin. Merino doesn't absorb odours so I don't need to bring as many clothes. Still with the ultralight mindset, I use ziplock bags for my organisation, so make up in one, toiletries in the other, tech in another. Speaking of toiletries, I decant all my liquids for my skincare into 30 ml bottles and my creams into a contact lens container, I find 30 mls is more than enough for up to a months travel for each step of my skincare routine. Hair care and body wash are usually provided by my accommodation so I never pack those in, or I buy at my destination. For make-up, I use products that are multi purpose, ie. Lipsticks that I can use as blush, using a concealer as my foundation (travel size Tarte Shape Tape), a quad eyeshadow that has a shade that I can use as an eye liner, etc. If I have to bring technology, I ditched the lap top and use a small tablet instead. However these days, my phone is more than enough for my needs. But I am a leisure traveller, not a work traveller. I also use the Nitecore power bank which is one of the lightest in the market. Other things I bring to shave off weight, a single use plastic water bottle (typically Smart 1ltr bottle which I can use for months before I throw it out) instead of a dedicated water bottle. Uniqlo nylon cross body bags, super capacious and ultralight, nylon folding walletc(I'm a fan of the nylon bill folds from Muji) instead of large bulky leather wallets. A compact shopping bag/tote so I can separate some stuff that I need with me on the flight once I go through security instead of having to go to the overhead bins all the time to retrieve stuff. I also use it to hang my toiletries where I need to when using the bathrooms. Ear buds instead of over ear headphones. Ultralight hiking umbrella instead of a regular one. I wear all my heaviest clothing items at the airport until I get through either the check-in counter or in the case of if I'm travelling with Jetstar who weigh carry-on at the boarding gate, until after I board. Typically clothing wise, I pack one merino tshirt, chambray or white merini shirt and a merino vest/singlet which the latter is also my sleeping pyjamas or a thermal insulating layer. One or two mid layers depending on the climate, either a down vest, knitted vest or a merino/cashmere/alpaca sweater or a cardigan. One dress that can also be used as a skirt layered under my top and can be dressed up or down. 2 or 3 pair of pants ie. Merino joggers/leggings which I can also wear as pj bottoms or in the case of leggings, an insulating layer under my other pants/dress/skirt, 1 pair of jeans (sometimes) and one smarter looking pants, either in wool or linen depending on the season. For the top layer Two jackets/coats, wearing the heaviest on the plane. 5 days worth of underwear in modal fabric which is superlight and quick drying, 2-3 pair of merino socks, one of which are compression socks. One merino bike shorts, which I use for anti chub rub or as pj bottoms. Two pairs of shoes which vary depending on climate. One giant cashmere or wool scarf which doubles as a blanket or if I'm travelling to warmer climates, I bring a sarong instead which has a million uses. Because I'm so minimal with my clothing choices, it's the accessories I bring which change up my looks. Accessories typically don't weigh as much as clothing items.
So true. If I can leave behind PJs I will. Bike shorts have become my short replacements - infinitely lighter than denim shorts but also other shorts. I've become a fan of tunic dresses and shirt dresses for extreme versatility - layering potential increases exponentially. Oh and instead of packing cubes I've taken to using good quality delicates bags. Can still get some compression happening, still organisational AND you have some delicates bags if you have access to a washing machine at any point on the trip. It's a win
Thank you for sharing. I have always felt that some content creators were not being honest about how they fit a month’s worth of clothes in a carry on bag.
I've recently done 6 weeks in Canada in winter carryon only. It's doable, just gotta pack smart AND know what the airlines DON'T count in the restrictions
Thank you for sharing your honest frustrations with the weight restriction. You were quite funny! I have friends who mock me because I usually have to check a bag. It just isn't fun travelling if you have to wear the same clothes over and over. I don't mind doing laundry but I have encountered a lack of laundry facilities where there was supposed to be some, malfunctioning machines (a dryer that did not dry anything), etc. I would add my endorsement to the laundry strips. Light as a feather and they do work. PS you did not mention undergarments!! I hope there was room for them! LOL
Yeah it's great if there are laundry facilities but there aren't always, and I hate having dripping underwear & socks all over the place after washing in a bathroom sink.
I enjoyed your video. I'm also a plus size woman who enjoys travelling too but whenever I look out for videos with packing tips, the ladies are always thin and petite (which is okay but the tips most of the time doesn't apply to my needs 😅). It's great to know that I'm not the only one who has to sacrifice some clothes and items to fit the airlines standards, still I think that those companies are just trying figure out more ways for people to eventually only carry a passport.
Yeah I remember seeing an interview of Kylie Minogue and she mentioned how much easier it is for her to travel compared to all her friends. Bcos she's so tiny says she can pack an endless amount of outfits and still be carrying far less than all her friends. See DN Danie for practical tips for minimal travel for plus size women
***Hun, just subbed. You make so much sense. I appreciate observing someone who looks like myself. I was fed up looking at stick women TH-camrs - who wear baby size clothes that could all fit in a tinny, tiny, minute, microscopic toilet bag! Watching a luscious lady talk and walk real-life travel commonsense is worth my time watching. My time is precious. 🇬🇧🕊👑✝️👑🕊🇬🇧****
Great video! A travel tip/hack is using a stuffable travel neck pillow (an easy DIY project or buy them online). I've been using a carry-on backpack for over a decade. It works great and knowing your bag was not lost by the airline is even better🙂
If you are planning on minimalist travel, the things you bring have to be light, including the bag. It also means that the focus is not on the things you bring, it will be what you do. My Tom Bihn Tri star bag is just over 3lbs and is all I ever need for travel. It is just about small enough to qualify as a personal item. My wife and I traveled with that, a carry on ebag and personal item backpack for 3 weeks in Europe with our 15 month old (which meant the ebag was mostly diapers) and it was easy. It was October so we needed warm jackets so all we used was packable down jackets, a couple pants, a few shirts, minimal tech. Yes, we did laundry a couple times. We wanted to stay minimal to make it easy to get around, especially with the toddler. (Also, you might want to forget some things and get a couple souvenirs to use instead.) If you are bringing two laptops and extra scarves, two sweaters, and non-lightweight clothes, you will not be doing minimalist travel. And that is perfectly ok. Minimalist travel is not for everyone and if you want to bring more things, than that is what you should do. The one key is also pack a change of clothes in your carry on if you have to check in a bag, just in case. If you need to bring more things or like some heavier items to enjoy your trip then enjoy your trip. Travel should first and foremost be fun.
My number one pro tip for carry on packing is to start by choosing the lightest luggage, so a fabric backpack or a fabric weekender bag, never a hardshell, they are always heavier and you loose precious weight.
💯 it all starts with picking a good bag. I’m trying out the July light carryon right now. It’s a 3.9 pound hard side luggage. And it got me past weight restrictions on Norse Atlantic and SAS. I’ll redo a packing video where I don’t start with luggage made of cement 🤣
The whole point of using heard shell luggage is to protect your bag when checked. For carryon I always pick soft sided because they are just more flexible in packing.
Here in Asia the carry-on weight limit is often 7kg (15.4 lbs) per person. It's hard to pack within that! I can pack my backpack with tech, toiletries, and other essentials at 7kg. But then I need a separate bag for clothes. The only way I can make it work is by taking my toddler's weight allotment. 🌸Heidi
I’ve had it happen at different times. Flying Emirates out of EWR they weighed at the ticket counter (I couldn’t get a mobile boarding pass). Out of JFK on Swiss Air, the weighed at the ticket counter. On Air France in Paris they weighed my bag in the line for security. And extra fun, Air France uses a combined weight of carry on and personal item so there’s no shifting things around to sneak extra weight in bags.
@@fofita17 Yes, we’ve had our carry-on bags weighed by Air Asia, Philippine Airlines, and Peach. Sometimes it’s at check in and sometimes it’s at the gate before getting on the airplane.
At the gate too!?! Just when you feel you’re free and clear? Is nothing sacred anymore? But thanks for naming airlines, I know to be on the lookout. I got lucky with Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways not weighing bags
We were weighed at the gate by Air Portugal on the way home only and it was total weight not just carryon. We had 3 kids and my parents (7 total) so I shuffled into the kids bags until they got frustrated with me and just let us board. Honestly it felt like a money grab by the airline since we all met the dimensions. So many people had to pay to check a bag because of weight while I was shuffling stuff!
I love this video, this is way better than anything YT has suggested in the last week. Just a quick scarf hack: search for one scarf that has different patterns and different colours. My scarf looks like four different scarves, depending on how I fold it.
As toiletries are often the heaviest part of packing, and liquids have to go through security anyway, I put mine in my small backpack which I use as a personal item.
Yes! I watched so many “packing light” videos before my trip to the south of France this past June, and pretty much all of them used bags that far exceeded size and weight restrictions for European airlines. The personal bag allowance for my carrier (Lufthansa) was 11.8” x. 15.7” x 3.9” (no weight was stated) and carry on’s were limited to 21.6” x 15.7” x 9” and 17.6 pounds. Right off the bat, none of my many carry on rolling suitcases (including the one I used on my previous flight to France on United a few years ago) met the size requirements. So I ended up buying a smaller roller carry on. And like you, I hit the weight limit packing just 2/3rds full with just clothes and one pair of shoes. But all the videos I watched to prepare for my trip had people packing huge carry ones and ginormous personal item bags. Some of the personal item bags even exceeded the carry on size dimensions for European airlines. And I am very glad I bought one of those luggage scales, because the Lufthansa check in agent weighed it at a check in, and I was under the limit.
I’m convinced the reason they limit the weight is to force many people to check their bag(s). The size limit is obvious (those overhead bins are only so big), but weight feels like a money grab when other airlines have no problems with heavier bags. I feel you on your frustration. I know just how you feel. I’m going on a cruise to Iceland and Norway next year (yep, booked last May!). It will be my first time outside Canada and the US since 1991. 😮
Weight is a safety limit mostly - bags shouldn't be so heavy that flight attendants/the average person can't safely lift above their head. And there's a risk of bags falling out and hurting people in extreme turbulence. Weight on the plane also adds to fuel requirements, though that applies everywhere not just cabin bags.
Finally some honesty in "packing your carry-on", "carry-on is the only way". When you pack a 10kg carry-on, you are travelling business class or first class. Everyone else is stuck at 7kg, maybe 8kg, carry-on and personal item together. Qatar considers your coat a personal item, for example, but I haven't seen them enforce that rule yet. Layers is what will save you, and do your research before you go.
Travel around Europe is definitely a pain thus you have to be creative. My trick is using a travel pillow to stuff some clothing, also I use a money belt under my shirt stuff with a few items. Another trick is using Duty free plastic bag for my hats scarf &umbrella. This bag is not consider luggage
OMG I’m soooo happy TH-cam recommended me your channel. I immediately subscribed. This is amazing. I haven’t traveled since 1997 via airplane. We’re planning a couple of trips within the next couple of years. One to NYC to visit family. One to London to visit friends, and my daughter’s 15s and 16s she wants to go to Italy/Greece and Japan. This video is extremely helpful as everything has changed. I remember I didn’t have to deal with weight. I also could travel with full size products if I wanted to. I’ve been watching so many videos just to make sure I’m up to date with all the changes.
Yeah, been there, done that. I have been weighed on every flight to Europe, Africa and usually to South America. I have never been to Asia, so I can’t speak there. It is hard AF to pack only in a carry on for a trip this length without going overweight, especially in the winter. I think you did a fantastic job! I love all your tips and I love that this was a process video that showed your logic for how you made choices. My travel is a smidge easier because I wouldn’t have taken a laptop at all; however, I do travel with an iPad Pro and a hotspot from Solis, which is no lightweight. I also use one charging block that works for several different devices from Anker; I rotate items for charging over a couple of hours if I need to. If I have enough weight allowance, I take the one that actually has a battery pack inside of it, too. I always buy shampoo/conditioner when I get in country (I have very long hair but find the hotel size is enough to get me by in a pinch until I can buy a bigger bottle). I love going into grocery stores and pharmacies in other countries, so this is a fun excuse to head into them. Another tip that I think was embedded but wasn’t said out loud what only bringing 1 bra and about 3-4 pairs of underwear. If you have a bit of powdered soap or a cut up laundry sheet, you can wash these in your hotel sink and dry them over night. Since menstrual cups have hit the market, they are a complete game changer for travel! I started using one in 1999 and never looked back (thankfully, I am now past the need…). I agree wholeheartedly on travel small, pack smart. Scarves are awesome accessories. Don’t forget silk scarves and cashmere either… they both can be surprisingly warm as well as incredibly lightweight. I also encourage bringing a super lightweight foldable backpack or duffel. Yes, you can use this on the trip, but I typically have it for the return trip home. I check my main bag then because I don’t need to worry as much about it arriving on time, but I can still use the lightweight backpack for my carryon on the plane ride back for my electronics and gifts that I might have purchased while traveling. Thanks for such a wonderful, informative video.
You definitely need one of those travel pillows that you stuff with your clothes! You can also put heavier small items in you coat pockets, like laptop chargers.
I’ve traveled several times with just a backpack. In my experience, they never weigh your backpack. I think as long as it’s not a massive bag, they don’t even bother. You have the right idea of using the tote bag for a personal item. I have a large cotton tote that I use that holds a ton but looks chill. Leaves room for souvenirs!
I steer clear of the hardside suitcases when carrying on as they typically are heavier than if you got a fabric/softside. Also I find it gives more when packing. I would purchase some of the items when I get to my destination such a laundry soap, toothpaste deodorant etc . I stick with a neutral color black, navy or tan/beige then i can mix/max with less items and a pop of color or accessories. Keep the scarfs, green sweater over the black sweater. I would have worn one of the scarfs on the plane. A crossbody bag over a tote I think it would be easier to manage/travel with a having to also carry the big backpack.
My hard side is way lighter than any fabric suitcase. The fact that the fabric gives tempts you to pack overweight. I avoid compression packing cubes for the same reason. A small daypack for personal item allows you to be hands free and stays on your shoulders unlike an awkward tote bag.
traveling to New Zealand in a few days. I've watched so many videos on packing and yours is quite refreshing. What you have not addressed is souvenirs. I like buying them as I don't travel very often. I'm a senior so back packs are out of the question. But you have given me some good ideas
Honestly, bring an extra canvas bag that zips down, on the way back, you can put your new souvenirs into the bag and just check your suitcase since you’re headed home
Look at ultralight hiking backpacks. Especially the ones with a frame and hip belt. My recommendation for travel is the Durston Kakwa 40l in small which fits all carryon size restrictions and weighs 800 grams. These style backpack distributes the weight to your hips instead of shoulders only so things feel lighter when in reality it's not. If you really want to go the cabin suitcase route, samsonite has the lightest on the market with the 72 hour models and the c-lite ones. Also look into bringing a utility jacket. These typically have lots of pockets, so you can put a lot of stuff in them which you wear until you get past checkin.
I know I'm commenting late, but my top tip is: Buy a stuffed neck pillow with a zipper (not the inflatable kind). Then before a flight, I take the fluff out and re-stuff it with tank tops, yoga pants, whatever can get crumpled up. I have managed to cram 2 leggings, 3 tops, and a couple pairs of thin socks that way. I roll through security with the neck pillow hanging off my purse or on my neck and have never been questioned about it. Have even made it through those small budget airlines with their ridiculously tiny weight limits and had zero problems.
Lexie, yours is the first packing video I have really enjoyed. You are REAL, with a great presentation style. Most presenters are size 6 so of course they can fit their whole wardrobe in a tiny bag! 😂 easy on the eyes, easy on the ears, lovely backdrop with all those gorgeous plants, you’ve won a fan. Thank you for a great video with great advise. 😍😍😍😍
You can absolutely pack for a two week trip in a carry on... it's called finding a laundromat! No matter how long my trip is, I pack for 5 days (wearing my sixth outfit on the travel day) and plan on doing laundry. I also pack a laundry bar so I can spot clean or wash underwear in the sink if I need an extra day of wear.
This is great, thank you for sharing! I’m not traveling internationally, but traveling half days across the US for medical care, and am having to fly instead of drive for the first time in over a decade. Packing is SO different, and I’ve not traveled by plane since I started having to carry so many medical items and things I have to have on hand. Your video was super helpful in general here, and I really appreciate your overall vibe, too. But I specifically wanted to comment on your use of the word “stymied” in casual conversation. Not one you hear all the time, and it made me smile.😊
Since I often stay in hostels that doesn't provide body wash and shampoo, I'll have the bring my own. I travel with body soap bar, facial soap bar, solid shampoo and solid conditioner. They don't weigh much, takes up little space and they last forever! I don't have to travel with laptop, so that would save me quite a fair bit of weight. I just travel 3 weeks in New Zealand with only 7kg of carry-on backpack!
I traveled for 35 days in Europe with a personal tote and an 18" roller carry on. And I had heating pad and special pillow. It can be done without lying.
I use ziplock bags for my toiletries & power cords/phone chargers … Wear your heaviest clothes/shoes on the plane, only pack as light as possible (ballerina flats, light sandals, light work out T-shirts, light travel pants …). My son & I, we had passed the 7kg limit baggage when we used Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur to Vietnam. They actually weighted our luggage right at the plane entrance! Since I always get cold on the plane, I wear layers of clothes (1 tank & 1 T-shirt underneath my hoodie, 1 capri leggings under my pants + 1 heavy jacket/coat, thick socks & heaviest shoes - voilà, at destination you can re-use those extra layers of clothes …).
Like you, I prefer to 'wear' my clothes rather than struggle to pack them. But I have a casual retired lifestyle.... So wearing clothes works great for me.
I love how real you are. Curse words and all. That’s my thing….finding real life video and not the cute, girly lies that’s on social media. I’m like….every thing is not centered around being cute, i need truth. So glad I came cross your channel
I’m a U.S. size 10-12 and I pack for about 2-3 weeks in my 40L backpack. I wear my thicker shoes or boots on the flight and pack one lighter pair of shoes. In the winter I wear into the plane my heavy leather jacket, my hoodie, and my scarf because it gets so cold on the plan anyway so that does make space in the bag. I’ll wear my thicker jeans or leggings on the plane and pack a lighter jean and extra leggings in the bag. I will say I have curly hair so that is one product I bring extra of, but I really use very squishy containers for the few toiletries I have. I don’t buy the “travel size” products because the containers are weird shaped and don’t compress well. The ones I’m using I got on Amazon and have been on many trips. I take minimal makeup too. I don’t do too much editing but I use my iPad Pro or just my iPhone pro to save space. Normally I have my personal item too but just use a small crossbody to go because some flights only let you have the one bag. But on the way home this summer I used my large Le Pliage bag that I keep packed in my backpack for any souvenirs I bring or if the bag is a bit heavy so I don’t need to check the bag on my return 😅.
You’re going to have a great experience!! If I had to go through my bag getting lost experience again, I wish I would have packed my toothbrush, extra pair of underwear, and a sleep shirt in my personal item just to make things a little easier.
On one of my first international WORK trips , my luggage got lost. So I never check luggage anymore - and always carry extra clothes in my personal bag [i.e. PJs - if I'm not wearing 'lounge outfit', swimsuit/sarong/sandals, top, bottom, undies, shower cap]. Plus something to read and write in - usually my diary...and my handheld electronic Sudoku...
I tried to pack carry on for a cold weather cruise. I gave up and checked a bag for the flight. I tend to pack a buff to use as a scarf rather then a big bulky scarf.
Hi! Stumbled upon your video when I’m packing too - I travel several times by plane for work & leisure within Europe. There’s an option of paying a bit extra for heavier cabin bag (max 12kg on average) when you’re checking in online for your flight. The price varies per airline I think, but I remember EasyJet charged 14.99€. I do that mostly only when I travel for work, because I need my laptop with me. This may be an option if tech gear is a must?
That’s great to know!! I travel standby as an airline employee, and let me tell you, ticket counter agents are super inconsistent on whether they’ll weigh your bags based on basic economy or give you the higher allowances. 😂
Were you trying to only pack one bag? I travel with a personal item too, and pack, tech, toiletries and one set of clothes in there, and that reduces weight in my carry on.. amber you already do that? Not sure if that is helpful. And ..I always start With the lightest bag I can …I am also a bit limited in that I can longer carry a backpack ..loved this refreshing video…
Mine was never weighed. They laughed because I stood two feet away and tossed my bag into their carry size thingy and it cleared by an inch on each side! We all laughed as I totally expected to miss, I grabbed it and after all that they said uh you’re in the last boarding group can we gate check it? They promised it would be in the hall as I exited the plane. I pulled my tiny Bagalini travel bag out, took out the emergency one day clothes I’d separated into a ziplock just in case, meds and chargers. Closed it, took a photo of the guy with the bag and the identification on it. It was in the hallway when I arrived from Berlin to New York!
I'm 5'7 and I travel with budget airlines. 1 small under the seat bag and a travel backpack in the overhead bin is all I need even in January in europe. I even had rubber boots once for high tide in Venice. Tips: use synthetic clothing and roll them tight. Wear neutral colors that are easy to mix and match. Nothing that is rainbow colored. No Hawaiian floral shirts. If you use the laundromat then they have detergent, you don't need to bring it. I never get my bag weighed because I check in online and arrive 5 minutes before the gate closes and they just scan the ticket and wave me through.
I enjoy travel, I'm not trying to stress myself out playing packing Tetris and I want to have the things I like with me while still leaving pounds available for the groceries I always bring back. I hate spending money on things I have at home. By the time i buy pajamas, toiletries in Europe, etc...I might as well pay the checked bag fee. If I'm not feeling well - the last thing I want to do is go shopping for meds, I want go take what I brought and rest. I keep valuables with me in my carry on and travel insurance is a necessity these days so if they lose my bag, it's covered...
I did 4 weeks in Europe a year ago in the winter and we did carry on only. I am a size Large/14. Not a size 0. It did require a lot of planning. The first step is to find out the size and weight requirements for both your personal item and your carry-on. You need this info for each airline you are flying on. You will need a luggage scale (they are inexpensive) and an Oxo kitchen scale. The importance of lightweight, but warm layering cannot be overstated! I used an Oxo kitchen scale to weigh each item I was thinking about bringing and lined up, by weight each top, each bottom, each layering piece, each pair of shoes, etc. I selected each type of item based on weight and versatility. We mapped out where the laundromats were at each location, and picked hotels somewhat based on them being walkable to a good laundromat. We did laundry about once a week. We also used a dry bag and a super thin lightweight clothesline for hand washing socks, underwear more regularly. Also, don’t bring your own shampoo, etc. Use what is provided by hotels, and/or buy certain items when you get there. Visited 7 cities in 3 countries. Best vacation ever.
Thank you so much for this video. I now live in Europe and take a lot of short hop flights, carry-on only, and the weight limitations are legit! I loved that you took us through the process of trying different bags and styles. Also, I’m impressed with the small amount of makeup you wear, your skin is glowing!
It seems America is the only place where you can have lots of weight and size for your bags. Asia, Australia, Europe all between 7k -8kg. It 7 for me in Australia, so its Americans that aren't used to what we have been dealing with for years.
I travel with one pair of shoes and a raincoat that serves for warmth as well. But I won’t ever look as amazing as you! Definitely don’t stint on emergency medical supplies. When you need them, you’re SO glad you packed them!
My travel goal is to ALWAYS travel [air and road trips] with only a backpack (or rolling under seat bag) and fanny pack/crossbody bag - everywhere! I'm 72 and Plus Size 2XL size 11 feet. Wish me luck!
You are forgetting the biggest hack. Get a coat with big, zipped pockets - put your heaviest things in there. Wear your heaviest/bulkiest items and multiple layer them. You are just going thru the security part; you can repack your bags once past security. Bring silky thin blouses (packs small and dries quickly for handwashing) Also, skip the bulky knitted sweaters/hat and get a fashionable microfleece for the layering layer.
Tech and toiletries can be worn on your body in a SCOTTeVEST jacket or coat. Buy a neck pillow cover, but instead of putting a pillow in it, stuff it with underwear, socks, scarves, etc. Use it as a pillow on your flight.
This is brilliant. As a New Zealander who would be limited to 7kgs (although all our flights to Europe come with a generous checked bag allowance), this is the most realistic packing video I've ever seen. I'd still ditch the second scarf though. But we'll done!
Thank you for being so realistic with this. As a plus size girly, I gave up on packing 2 weeks of vacation things into a carry on. They are absolutely lying to us. About 1/2 way into the video, I subscribed and hit the bell icon for all your notifications. Thank you for this!
I usually fly Ryanair within Europe, and their carry-on has a 10 kg limit - but mine has not been weighed (so far). The personal item has no weight limit, thankfully. Sometimes I'm pretty sure I pack almost double that. 😂 one of these days I need to weigh it!
Good job! I always check my suitcase, but I make sure I take a couple of shirts and undies and teeny-tiny toiletries in my personal item bag, just in case. LOOOOVE BUDAPEST!!
Loved your video. Thanks for showing the true process with the Tetris organizing and the multiple weighing and bag changes. I’m currently packing my carry on a few days early for a family trip to Paris. Will definitely remove items each day as I get closer to departure date. Considering using my travel t-shirt and leggings as my pjs. Will also break out the scale. ❤
It’s important to question the why of things. Explaining why you’re doing what you’re doing is helpful because people can keep or take the advice. I do packing cubes because I move around a lot. I don’t do joggers or jeans because weight. Etc. after watching a bunch of videos you take what works for you and adapt so you pack to your needs .
Glad to find your video especially as I am from Australia and our carry on limits are only 7 kgs. I always got confused watching all the other videos that put so much into a carry on, which I cant do for my Europe trip due to the weight restriction
Traveling to and from AU is how I learned to pack light. I now wear multiple items like 2 sweaters and a jacket if I'm going somewhere cold and put a pillow case in my carry-on. Bam I have a travel pillow for the flight :-D.
Trictio s I. South Africa. Even if u got the space u can't carry so much. I traveled to Canada and USA, no bags were weighed there. You cannot believe the size of the carry on luggage u come across.
Airlines that have actually weighed my carry on: Aeromexico (weighed both personal and carry on, could not add up to more than 8 kg), Iceland Air (they were more concerned about the measurements than weight and made us check them at the gate for a mere half inch difference). Something to note: Iceland Air weighed and measured them AT THE GATE, so the stuffing them after getting past security would be a no-go. Re: your Budapest trip, are you sure your bag was checked just because of weight? It looks too wide and deep for European airlines. Anyway, I do travel with only carry-on (cabin size roller suitcase) BUT I made sure to buy one that is about 3 pounds (1.5 kg IIRC). I think it's key to start with a super lightweight suitcase (we have soft and hard shell ones, all are 2 kg or less). Also I use a couple of lightweight zippered pouches instead of a a heavier/bulkier toiletry bag, detergent sheets (such as Tru Earth) instead of liquid, and only the bare cosmetic essentials (i.e. I don't bring all my serums, etc, basically: moisturizer, miscellar water, tinted sunscreen, mascara, eyeliner, lipstick). A lot of things can be purchased at your destination. I have One travel scarf that has several colors and patterns and looks different depending on which way you fold it it. I also think the average traveler won't need/bring as much tech, that definitely adds a lot of weight. I usually travel with only carry on, but last year I didn't and my bag was lost for 2 weeks. So never again will I part with my bag, I pay for priority boarding to make sure I can get it in the cabin.
Excellent... thank you so much for being REAL! I always carry my second shoes in my personal item bag as they are heavy items! Also just to say security don't weigh your bag,... it's the airline! So don't move items til you're through the gate😮! Ha🎉ppy travels❤
One tip for toiletries for space and weight, is for my facial cleansers and liquids. I usually put those cotton rounds in a ziplock bag and then lightly soak those with the cleanser. zip the bag and throw it in. They will stay moist for 7-10 days. I also go to the make up and perfume counters and ask for samples.
This veteran traveler was seriously impressed. As I guy, I sometimes have to take business suits and all that goes with them. Not fun. When you have to add a tuxedo to the mix, you just have to check a bag -and even then the weight restrictions can kill you. For either sex, your video should be a mandatory first stop for all those wishing to travel light(er).
Air France weighed both my carryon AND tote TOGETHER! I had to buy another suitcase and check it! If we had an actual Delta flight back (to/from France were booked on Delta) they would NOT have weighed them. We will NEVER FLY AIR FRANCE AGAIN! The flight was awful too.
Thanks for sharing! I had the same experience on Air France, I had a 28L backpack and handbag and had to check my little backpack. That flight/airline caused me a few trust issues 🥹
We went to Ireland and Scotland for 30 odd days with carryon and an underseat bag. I don’t think we were weighed. We are in our 70s so wheeled luggage is a must. Ours were hard sided and underseat soft with wheels. It was September and included an American football game. Had to bring the school colors, plus we were given additional school stuff there.
as a female, I also use panti-liners and pack fewer nylon undies.... I'm Plus size 2XL with size 11 feet - so my panties, shoes and clothes take up a lot of space....
This is so real! Thank you for this, the stress is real. Honestly, airlines are discouraging carryon usage so we gotta check our shit. You aren’t crazy, it’s just not possible.
I am going England for 6 mths from the 3rd week in February. It is tough but I always take a check in bags as well as a carry on to avoid the added stress.
I had a flight a few years ago which the flight attendant was not my or anyones favorite person... as she weighed everything you had. Atendants words " you are carrying it on ... so its all carryon. Well duh... (Cost me $46.00 Australian) but have not before or since had my personal bag included. Did 7days with only 7 kg in total when I went to bali last year... I was not paying for anything. Took my basic needs.. old underwear which I discarded.. Light weight clothing which mixed and matched for changes. A small amount of shaved laundry soap for random hand washing. Just minimal amounts of personal hygiene items. Bought a coupl of new souvenirs whilst still staying at 7kg. Totally surprising myself and other's that- I could do it.😊
I went to Europe for a month in a soft sided carryon bag that had backpack straps. It weighed about 2.5 lbs empty. Filled it weighed about 20 lbs which was heavier than expected to carry around. The heavy electronics and minimal toiletries went into my personal bag. Weight was definitely a concern because the bag didn’t have wheels to roll it through some very large airports.
I often pack carry-on only when traveling for longer periods. I am not a tiny girl either. I'm generally a size 14-16. I packed carry-on only for 18 days around Egypt in 2021 (and plan to for 3 weeks in Europe this summer). I only had long dresses or linen pants with sleeved shirts (no tank tops or shorts). I packed 7 days' worth of clothing and I had to wash them 2x while I was over there. That's the key. You can only take minimal clothing and I packed them in compression cubes. I also traded in things like my shampoo and conditioner for shampoo and conditioner BARS so they were not liquids. It can absolutely be done but you do have to make some concessions, so it isn't for everyone. If I wanted to pack a different outfit for every day, or multiple outfits for one day, then no, it would not be possible. I don't like waiting at baggage claim so I avoid it when I can. I spent 2 weeks in the UK and Ireland with a huge suitcase back in 2019 and it was miserable, so I have figured out how to make carry-on only work.
Actually they only work if you’re going to a warm and sunny climate and are 97 pounds, only wear shorts, bikinis and leggings and flip flops! I attended a class where this really slim woman who only went to Mexico showed us how to pack in a tiny carryall. After the class I said well that was amusing, but you didn’t even pack a bra. As you can see, I need one! Also I’m headed to London! It’s cold and rainy. Where’s the sweaters? Long pants? Coat? She said well I like warm places. I said this class was how to travel in a carryon only, not how to travel if you only go to Mexico!
I always make a point of getting a VERY lightweight wheeled bag. It may not be a good quality bag but, but lightweight is how I meet weight, and I won’t go without wheels…if you get stuck in an airport and have to walk around for hours, it gets tiring to carry your bag. Oh, and I carry heavy items when I check in - in case they weigh the bag.
Just a thought! Have you considered getting either a lighter smaller suitcase (which cost money) or (even better) get a weekender that's foldable and light for your clothes and toiletries? This way, your backpack mainly carries the valuables and electronics. Also, if you can find a jacket that's multi-purpose (perhaps removable sleeves/removable inner layer) so that you can pack less of the cute but bulky sweater. Thin cashmere scarf is great, even better if can find diff. prints on both sides to pack less. Shoes, unless your outdoor/off tourist spots requires it, less shoe is better.
This is the most realistic packing I ever watched basically because I was on the same shoe when packing. What gets me when I pack is the extras toiletries and other stuff besides from clothes because clothes and shoes already takes a lot of weight. So I appreciate this effort that you put through ❤
Agreed, I just saw a video where the lady packed a carry on that weighted 35 lbs!! Like seriously, who is going to haul that plus a back pack. That is not packing light
I’m old, have a lot of health issues so take a lot of meds, and wear orthopedic shoes. My secret to packing light is wearing the heavy stuff and knowing I will be doing laundry often-ish. I can’t heft a backpack or duffle/tote any more. Don’t forget you can buy toiletries everywhere. Packing your bag super tight may cause an issue as you may want to buy stuff to take home and have no place to put it. Nobody where you are traveling knows you or cares about what you are wearing so don’t fear repeating outfits!
💯
Fr though !
Or themselves,
And in one tiny compression packing cube lol
“What’s the point of even existing if you have to live that joylessly” 😂
lol that was funny but I do travel with only my walking boots and a cute pair of flat sandals. I also leave my purse and only have a very small fanny pack for my documents, money and cards.
I’m just not a girly girl and my husband appreciates that we don’t travel with huge bags 😂
Great video.
😂 it sounds funny, but that’s really a great idea. I’ll try it next time I fly
🤣🤣 love this advice
“They are lying to you.” THANK YOU!!! 🙌 Yes, finally somebody said it….! 🌟
Finally!!!
Absolutely👏🏾 check it and reduce all the stress
Plus room for souvenirs 😉
I do this now also, I cant lift a carryon into an overhead compartment. Also need meds to in my personal item and a small handbag for when I arrive.
Yeah until perhaps your luggage does get lost or stolen. It’s the worst.
Preaching to the choir ❤😂
@elmiaugremling What a great idea! I’ve never thought to weigh every item and put it into a spreadsheet.
Now why didn't i think of thaT? Adding the weight of each item to my spreadsheet that I've been using for decades!? duh! tfs! love your tip!!!!
A CPAP is a medical device that shouldn’t count in your weight limit…
Tell me you’re doing laundry if you travel that long.
I watch a lot of packing videos and it's usually capsule wardrobes for skinny people and one piece of tech. This was so honest a real it doesn't seem real to be able to travel with one bag
Fr
I did Africa for a month with one bag
Plus you can buy things at your destination
I absolutely love the realism in this video! Watch a million videos prior to my trip next week and this one was the best one so far!
I like the realistic packing process. I would suggest that cleaning up the language would give a more respectful presentation.
Same here, they are all boring. Lexies video has great, presentation, editing, music, and best of all, Lexie!!❤😊
Check out the laundry sheets because they not only are lightweight but you can tear off only what you need to use. I have been using Tru Earth for years and they dissolve without leaving any residue.
I respect laundry sheets. I cut into quarters, pop in a snack sized ziplock bag. Same-sized bag gets glycolic acid peel pads.
Me too. That's what I'm packing!
Can I ask what under seat bag you use? I’m a senior and have tried many. TIA
I was recently reminded that if your meds or equipment are prescription, the airline must allow an extra bag (extra weight?) without charge.
What crossbody bag are you using. Mine is too small and looking for a change.
I never thought of the weight of the carry on!! Thank you for pointing that out. ALSO, thank you for going through the process of repacking and weighing.
@@cricketcrigler I have one of those things at home that you just put the suitcase on to weigh it
This was such a wonderful and SUCCESSFUL packing video! My tips are:
1. Bare minimum toiletries in the lightest weight containers (I'm talking ziploc bag light) Anything you can buy at your destination, like sunscreen and soap, just do that instead.
2. Lightweight shoes (I had two pairs in my backpack but they were very light)
3. Maximize that personal item (which you did, but I was waiting the whole video for you to get to it, lol)
4. Minimize the tech (you don't travel to be on your computer for hours, ditch the extra one. Same goes for extra tablets, chargers, smart devices, etc.)
Happy travels!
love Love LOVE these tips!! Thank you for sharing
#5 is real. I’m regretting being a whole bunch of just-in-case items on my trip.
@@realDianaRose And a heck of a lot cheaper! My daughter is in Spain and she found the isdin brand face sunscreen for $25. It’s $75 in the states!
What about undergarments?
An idea is to get a jacket that has inside pockets you could load with things like technology items or toiletries.
I second this! I have a denim jacket and the inside pocket can fit a tablet. Or a family-size bag of trail mix. Or a small, furry animal.
Haha, we might need the story behind knowing a small furry animal fits in the pocket 🤣. I’ve been recommended the Scottevest and might need to get serious about it.
Exactly! I bought a Scotty vest for this reason. It has a million pockets and fits an iPad!
Haha, I’m just imagining walking up to the counter like Joey from Friends when he put on all of Chandler’s clothes. But whatever works!
I love the video where Sarah weighs her clothes piece by piece. Silk weighs less. Her underwear is hilariously thin but weighs nothing. Check out her tips. She’s 6’ tall and packs as a tour guide in a small bag. Crazy cool.
Some Airlines figured out the pillow trick and are not checking whether it's actually a pillow or pillowcase stuffed with clothes.
Very well said!
Agree that the bag is the first to look at!
Makes so much sense!
This was an epic amount of advice. Thank you!!
It's a win
The amount of info in your comment here is more than many travel videos contain, and it's all excellent advice!
No kidding!!
You don't have to name calling other women with different body type just to lift one up, Sherry 😊
🌸Heidi
Do they weigh your carry-ons before getting on the plane?
I agree with you - I always buy one multi-patterned scarf as trip souvenir. amazon has inexpensive scarves/shawls too. tfs!
That’s a great idea! Also, a reversible jacket is nice to avoid the samey-samey rut.
Yep, I will never be able to travel that light, lol. Checked bag it is! ✨😂 You did a great job demonstrating how to fit it all in!
I'm a senior - and have used backpacks since my 20's! Love being 'hands free'!
I love how honest and real you are, thank you so much for making this video!
This is BRILLIANT!
@@fano1th it was, now security knows about it and will count it as your personal item. One passenger was refused his flight because of it
Lexie, yours is the first packing video I have really enjoyed. 😍😍😍😍
This is a very true carry on only video I have ever watched!! I have always checked a bag and never lost my luggage.
Most realistic video I’ve watched
I traveled for 35 days in Europe with a personal tote and an 18" roller carry on. And I had heating pad and special pillow. It can be done without lying.
Agreed. I’m a Carry-On queen.
I’ve never flown internationally and I will for the first time in a few months. These are great tips, but if I fail I’ll just check the bag 🥴
Pausing video to say that I love how realistic this is. Love how you showed your process
I bought a bag that is just fabric and fits under seats. It weighs like nothing. It doesn't have wheels, though.
Buy an umbrella when you get there.
And ..I always start
With the lightest bag I can …I am also a bit limited in that I can longer carry a backpack ..loved this refreshing video…
I never get my bag weighed because I check in online and arrive 5 minutes before the gate closes and they just scan the ticket and wave me through.
guuurl i LOVE YOU the "pardon my language" after the amount of laundry to do 13 mins in killed me! I instantly hit subscribe after that
Greatest packing video of ALL TIME! 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m using the July ultralight which empty is 3.9 lbs. really makes a difference for international travel and weight limits
I've have watched a lot of videos how to pack light. and I did just a carry on and a packpack to Asia for a month. It can be done!
You could actually still take that extra sweater if you jist wrap it around your waist! Brava, this video was very helpful. Thank you!
Stuff the scarf in the coat pocket.
Thank you!! Finally, someone is being real about the weight of our bags! Air Asia limit is only 7KG and that includes personal item!
Good job! I always check my suitcase, but I make sure I take a couple of shirts and undies and teeny-tiny toiletries in my personal item bag, just in case. LOOOOVE BUDAPEST!!
So smart! Checked or carryon, I will be adding those items to my handbag in the future, just in case
Try some deodorant wipes too. Less weight and they aren’t a liquid.
Thank you for being real about packing! It's a struggle. I'm headed to Italy for 10 days and I'm questioning my bravado to do it in a carry on.
Italy is screamingly hot in the summer so your clothes will likely be lighter. I think you can do it!
Fyi, I always use my travel-T and leggings as PJs the 1st night!
7kg!?! What can you carry with that little , a tshirt, chapstick, and a winning smile? 😂
This is such a great example of how to plan successfully for flying! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are so real I wish I can do carryon but I also have a check suitcase regardless of where I am traveling
I've traveled to 76 countries. The secret is rewearing stuff and laundry.
as a female, I also use panti-liners and pack fewer nylon undies....
If you wear a backpack, chanses are they will not want to weigh it. Most of the time, the people pulled on the side are those with the trollers.
I had a flight a few years ago which the flight attendant was not my or anyones favorite person... as she weighed everything you had. Atendants words " you are carrying it on ... so its all carryon. Well duh... (Cost me $46.00 Australian)
but have not before or since had my personal bag included.
Laundry detergent strips are great for travel! I just slip a couple in a plastic bag or pouch. Less room & less weight!
Definitely going to get some for my trip to Iceland next month, thanks for the recommendation!
Yep those laundry detergent strips are awesome.
Right, I was trudging through snow in Budapest, I needed all the sweaters and scarves!
@@FlirtingWithTravel I hear that!
Just check a bag girl! Traveling abroad- you'll want to bring something home with you...and a girl needs her toiletries!!!
