Mine too. I'm actually stuck on gen 3. Quit playing because my family can't afford a Nintendo DS. Years later now that I graduated and have a job, I'm planning to finish all the games I missed hehe.
The sevii islands were my favorite part of leaf green and fire red. So many interesting areas and the johto music sounded so good redone in those games.
The Regis side quest will always be the greatest feat pokemon has done for the legendaries. It was fun to learn a new language that I didn’t know existed at the time and to see braille for the first time was so interesting. The fact that you have to go to the library check out a book or write the dots with the letters down was like a expedition in itself. It’s easier now which I don’t mind but to learn something while trying to find these three Pokémon was way ahead of it’s time.
Half of these aren't even sidequests.... they're just interactions in the games... And somehow we didn't mention a ton of sidequests like: - Shuckle from Gen 2 - Chasing down Suicune in Crystal - Battling Red in Gen 2 - The crashed/sunken ship in gen 3 (close to Slateport, forget the actual name of the ship) - Chasing down Mesprit in gen 4 - Scott's battle frontier challenges in Emerald ...and that doesn't even get into the myriad of actual sidquests in gen 5/6/7/8. These are just the earlier games before they became more common... But instead "Sevii Islands".... you mean *the postgame?* The literal postgame? That's a sidequest? My brother in Christ do you know what "sidequest" means?
Fun Fact: You can complete the Kenya side quest and get the TM for Rest, and also keep Kenya the Spearow by taking the Flower/Grass mail off of Kenya, putting it on a different Pokémon, and giving that Pokémon to the napping man instead. This is a much better option in Gen 4 than Gen 2, as Kenya has Arial Ace. A great move to have on a flying type this soon.
The Sevii Islands Sidequest is 1st offered to you after you defeat Blaine in FireRed & LeafGreen. Then after that sidequest is completed & you get the National Dex you can start a 2nd Side Quest that involves getting the Ruby & Sapphire.
The second one isn't actually an either/or choice (at least not in HG/SS. I don't recall exactly how it went in G/S). You only agreed to deliver the LETTER, not the SPEAROW. So if you want to keep both, all you have to do is store the Spearow in a box, take a pokemon that you caught just for this, attach the mail to it and then deliver that other pokemon. Done
With the spearow sidequest: If you trained it long enough and finally want to deliver it, the guy says something like that his spearow liked me much more than him and i should keep it. This Was sooo long ago, and i cleary remebered it lol

My fav quest was from HeartGold/Silver at the Ruins of Alph if you had an Arceus from Diamond/Pearl, Cynthia would take you somewhere for Arceus to create Palkia/Dialga/ Giratina. Cool scene
Funny, that side quest never actually happened. There was to be an event item given out for that quest to trigger, but it was canceled just before release. Any Arceus from before 'Legends Arceus' is a hacked one. Unless I'm missing out on some kind of Arceus handout in between those games... the side quest does sound really cool though.

I miss the Sevii Islands. They didn't return in the Gen II remakes or Let's Go so like Orre and pretty much all of the spin-off regions, they'll be lost to time because GameFreak and Nintendo probably won't bother with it.
Pokemon ultra sun and ultra moon have a weird sidequest regarding how to get the power belt and bulk up. A black belt is standing with a incineroar at the royal avenue. if you listen to his story he tells you he was strong until a Machamp showed up and defeated him. If you have Acrobatics so his Incineroar can learn it he gives you the belt. The next part is important. Moments later another black belt trainer with a Machamp is standing outside talking how his Machamp started losing because the Incineroar knows Acrobatics now. He'll give the TM for Bulk Up if have a Coba Berry (weakens flying damage) Essentially you just fueled their ongoing rivalry and none of them are realizing it.
I vaguely remember taking the letter from Kenya and giving it to some random Pokémon and delivering the letter with that Pokémon, so I kept Kenya and got the reward.
Fun fact: you can get both the TM and the spearow. You just got to transfer the mail to another pokemon, once you go to the other NPC he'll take the mail and give you the tm and won't take your pokemon.
I wish they would make a Pokemon game for adults which has difficult puzzles, real world prerequisites, side quests based on PoKedex entries which give you hints as to how certain Pokemon can be located rather than just finding them in the grass if that isn't in their nature, etc. It just feels like everything is given to you instead of it being an adventure in a world with unique Pokemon and personalities. Like what if a Pokemon that likes to be hidden in grass prefers to flee unless you cut the grass surrounding where you found it, or if running around grass startles a Pokemon and it can only be found if you stand still in the grass, with more complex ideas for legendaries instead of just finding them at the end of a cave. This franchise peaked with the regi puzzles.
For the spearow quest you can take the mail off of it and give it to another Pokémon like a wild hoothoot then just give the hoothoot away and keep the spearow.
In gen 2, you can actually take the mail from the Spearow, put it on another pokemon, and complete the delivery to get the TM. I dont know if you can do it in the remakes.
I trained up that damn spearow and it was one of the only 3 pokemon I used along with Red Gyarados and Typhlosion and then I accidentally gave it back to the NPC. Was so mad as a kid. My team could never defeat Lance. I was left with a 69 Typhlosion, 51 Red Gyarados, 33 Normal Gyarados and a like 20 something Noctowl. Ahahahaha

Shout out Kenya. That free sparrow is a perennial part of my gen 2 playthrough teams. Beat Red THEN deliver a lvl 85 90 fearow 😂. That NPC has one of the strongest Pokemon in game history 😂
Played the game when it was first release, using my GBA.. But up until now i still don't get the purpose of those empty chambers and the the uknown quest.
Lunar Wolf dude same I was so damn mad because I had lost my fire red version years ago and I thought it would be amazing to see the islands in HD but nope.
I could imagine that Regice would completely decimate Drake’s team. With the Dragon type being special back in the day, and Regice having extremely high Special Defense, plus the type matchup.
Back in GSC I got the gift spearow, put the mail item on my Suicune and gifted it. The NPC took the Suicune and was like “yo cheers for my mail lmao bye” and I reset the game instantly.
The nice thing about the spearow quest is that if you put the mail on a different Pokémon and talk to the guy, he’ll take the mail but say it’s not a Pokémon he remembers and gives it back to you. Though, not sure if it’s the same in gold/silver
You sure it's not heartgold? I remember being able to give it back in my last play through, and in crystal you don't even give it back to him the sleep guy takes it
I don’t understand why you have the sevi islands a spot. They also aren’t kept inaccessible until post game. You also don’t access them from vermillion. They’re not a secret at all there’s literally a cut scene with bill where he asks you to go with him. I just don’t understand why you have it a section and then got most of the info wrong. Very cool
The cool thing about the spearow quest is that you can give the mail to a different pokemon, and the person who'd normally take the spearow just goes "hey this isn't the pokemon! I'll just take the mail though" and you keep the spearow AND the TM
Believe it or not but as a kid i found out about the regis myself. Took me over 2000 playing hours to unraffle that mystery. Biggest accomplischment till this day
You can keep the Spearow and still complete the quest. The mail is the important part. You can take it off the Spearow, put it on any throwaway common, and deliver that. Lots of people did that to gain an additional ID for the Loto.
2:28 i didn't steal it. I borrowed it, evolved it and then stuck it in a box and forgot about it. Thats all. Thats not the same thing...he should not be tasking random children with escorting his Pokemon if he doesn't want them to be stol...borrowed, evolved, and placed in a box lovingly, and forgotten about. Thats on the guard.
you forgot shuckle side quest in gen 2 a guy scared of silver and he gave silver a rare pokemon, and the guy told you to take care of his shuckle and then you must return that shuckle to him
For the fire red and leaf green I got that before battling the elite four but it was 1-3 then after beating the elite four I got the rainbow pass and access to 4-7
My personal favorite is the eeveeium side quest from both sun & moon versions in which you go around battling trainers who specialize in the evolutions of Eevee, I won't say what happens with each of them but after doing so you battle the giver of the quest & once that is done you get eeveeium Z, this side quest is fun, decently challenging at lower levels & has some fun lore moments & one Of the time pokemon makes a pretty dark plot for a character apart of it but it was one of the few I went out of my way to do
about the spearow: the only reason to keep that spearow over one that you can catch in route 46 between the starting town and the second one is that the given spearow gains boosted xp like a traded pokemon. AND you can complete that side quest while keeping the spearow. just give the mail to a normal spearow and give that one instead. but honestly, the tm is nightmare... which sucks.
@RuffledRowlit With the Spearow quest from Gold/Silver, you don't actually have to deliver Kenya to the recipient in order to complete the quest, just the mail it is holding. So, if you wanted to keep the Spearow and still complete the quest, you could simply catch a random Pokemon, like Sentret for example, take the mail from the Spearow, give the mail the Spearow was holding to it, and then give that Pokemon holding the mail to the recipient. This will complete the quest, giving you the rewards you would have received had you simply given the Spearow instead. I see people do this all the time so they could keep Spearow/Fearow as their early flying type, as it is superior, offensively-speaking anyway, to any other flying type obtainable in the Johto region until much later. I could be mistaken, as I have not played HG/SS in a long time, but I believe this also works in the remakes as well.
I remember taking that spearow who’s name was Kenya. I added it to my team, brought it all the way through the game, and returned it to the guy after having beaten the league
so, the legendary red battle in gold/silver isn't considered a secret sidequest? as far i remember, the game never gave you a hint about that fight, it just was something you would find as you discover mt. silver, if you decide to do so. i never played the remakes, maybe it's not so secret anymore in those games?
Your mention about the Sevii Islands is somewhat false btw. You FIRST gain access to the first 3 islands after defeating Blaine, the 7th Gym Leader. 4 through 7 become available after the Pokemon League.
Depending on how you define hack, you don't need to hack the game. You just have to perform a fairly simple glitch (I consider glitches and hacking two different things).
For the part 2 of this video, you should include the Bianca Side Quest from Gen 5 (Black/White 2). It’s a VERY long and tedious task. I was honestly surprised I didn’t see it mentioned in this Video.
the sevii islands in fire red after giving ruby and sapphire to the bills friend on one island you can get pokemons from gen 2 but you have to have 60 pokemon in your pokedex then you can like unlock cave where is mewtwo
I have a very funny history with the Regi sidequest, I actually know it by heart because someone told me about it a decade ago, funny thing is, I don't remember who or how they did it. Someone told me this sidequest and it's been in my memory for a very long time now, it's the oldest gaming related memory I have.

I could imagine that Regice would completely decimate Drake’s team. With the Dragon type being special back in the day, and Regice having extremely high Special Defense, plus the type matchup.
Earthquake.
@@knightandrey4564 Why would earthquake matter at all...?
@@cutecombo8496 stab against it. Like rock slide or flamethrower
Back in GSC I got the gift spearow, put the mail item on my Suicune and gifted it. The NPC took the Suicune and was like “yo cheers for my mail lmao bye” and I reset the game instantly.
Lol that sucks. If I remember it correctly in the remakes if you put it on a random pokemon the npc will just take the mail.
Would be nice if they had some riddles in game to make it a bit more interesting like the old gen. It was so cool
I don't remember that vending machine side quest...I should try that!
Man post game stuff in old games really helped
The nice thing about the spearow quest is that if you put the mail on a different Pokémon and talk to the guy, he’ll take the mail but say it’s not a Pokémon he remembers and gives it back to you. Though, not sure if it’s the same in gold/silver
You sure it's not heartgold? I remember being able to give it back in my last play through, and in crystal you don't even give it back to him the sleep guy takes it
In 97 my older sister was dating a nerd and he cracked the mew code for me. I was a legend on the playground showing it off to everyone
Very cool
"let me tell you about secret quests"
Then proceeds to mention every well known quest in pokemon lol
I didn't know any of them! I even remember getting to the islands in Emerald and Ruby and being completely lost.
The cool thing about the spearow quest is that you can give the mail to a different pokemon, and the person who'd normally take the spearow just goes "hey this isn't the pokemon! I'll just take the mail though" and you keep the spearow AND the TM
I did that used this as a fearow on my final team
NOBODY missed the regis quest, very curious as to how in the fuck the first person figured it all out though lol
Believe it or not but as a kid i found out about the regis myself. Took me over 2000 playing hours to unraffle that mystery. Biggest accomplischment till this day
Same
You can keep the Spearow and still complete the quest. The mail is the important part. You can take it off the Spearow, put it on any throwaway common, and deliver that. Lots of people did that to gain an additional ID for the Loto.
Dang wish I knew this sooner.
@@kreevisful - Heh. At least you know now. Better late than never?
2:28 i didn't steal it. I borrowed it, evolved it and then stuck it in a box and forgot about it. Thats all. Thats not the same thing...he should not be tasking random children with escorting his Pokemon if he doesn't want them to be stol...borrowed, evolved, and placed in a box lovingly, and forgotten about. Thats on the guard.
In the seven mysteries thing its actually a myth~ish thing in japanese schools
I kinda know about it because of the anime toilet-bound hanako-kun
:3
you forgot shuckle side quest in gen 2
a guy scared of silver and he gave silver a rare pokemon, and the guy told you to take care of his shuckle
and then you must return that shuckle to him
For the fire red and leaf green I got that before battling the elite four but it was 1-3 then after beating the elite four I got the rainbow pass and access to 4-7
During when he is on the spearow quest take a shot every time she says sparrow instead of spearow
My personal favorite is the eeveeium side quest from both sun & moon versions in which you go around battling trainers who specialize in the evolutions of Eevee, I won't say what happens with each of them but after doing so you battle the giver of the quest & once that is done you get eeveeium Z, this side quest is fun, decently challenging at lower levels & has some fun lore moments & one Of the time pokemon makes a pretty dark plot for a character apart of it but it was one of the few I went out of my way to do
about the spearow:
the only reason to keep that spearow over one that you can catch in route 46 between the starting town and the second one is that the given spearow gains boosted xp like a traded pokemon.
Imagine beating the game and becoming Champion with Kenya before completing the side quest.
I remember taking that spearow who’s name was Kenya. I added it to my team, brought it all the way through the game, and returned it to the guy after having beaten the league
5:57 "Seven Mysteries"
Me: *HANAKO KUN*
Yassss
so, the legendary red battle in gold/silver isn't considered a secret sidequest? as far i remember, the game never gave you a hint about that fight, it just was something you would find as you discover mt. silver, if you decide to do so.
i never played the remakes, maybe it's not so secret anymore in those games?
Your mention about the Sevii Islands is somewhat false btw. You FIRST gain access to the first 3 islands after defeating Blaine, the 7th Gym Leader. 4 through 7 become available after the Pokemon League.
"Side quest without using any hack" "first quest is Prof Oak battle using a HACK OR GLITCH" LMAO
Just breed Spearow with Ditto - so you get a new Spearow and then complete the quest.
So I kept the Sparrow.. I would move the mail to another Pokemon that I didn't care about like a Caterpie that way I could still get the TM..
Regice should’ve been located in the ice part of the shoal cave yk
You have a chance to get into a battle with Oak by doing the Missingno glitch.
I remember doing that side quest with the spearow-mail and deciding to release the pokemon because why not
You forgot that you can take the mail and give it to another pokemon and give him that pokemon instead of the ferow
*makes video on quests you may have missed*
First one is literally unreachable without hacks
Depending on how you define hack, you don't need to hack the game. You just have to perform a fairly simple glitch (I consider glitches and hacking two different things).
@@lisahenry20 that's true, but either way it wasn't meant to be accessible and it's not supposed to be apart of the retail release of the game
Another one that could've been mentioned was Mirage Island
For those who don’t know the girl is the seventh mystery
huh does Noone know about keeping Randy's spearow and still delivering the mail in Gen 2?
3:03 can We get an F for Wailord's spine?
F
Also , love the profile pic
Pokemon red and blue where you bring the guy on top of the pokemart tower a drink and he gives you tms
The Slowpoke side quest in Let’s Go is useful for gaining a Big Pearl once per day to then sell at a Pokemart.
I remember my dad printing out the braille alphabet at work because we didn't have a printer at home.. Good old times :)
7:53 the beldum’s in sapphire and ruby too
Thank you mah boi Ruffled, i very enjoyed this video and can not wait for the next one! Lets get this video to 1000 likes!!
"Straight forward" he says talking about the Regis in emerald. Yeah, if you could read braille.
Seriously that is some of the most cryptic instructions ever!
It was in a bunch of mags Nintendo made money on. Not all of them were Nintendo themselves, but it was fan stuff they for money out of
@@WhatHappenedIn-vt3vq ok. But still if you didn't have that you couldn't possibly do that without a guide.
2:30 Or you give the mail to a random Pokémon you won't use, keep the Spearow and get the item
You can also move the mail on another pokemon, at least in the remake, and still get the TM while keeling the pokemon.
Hey there is a moltres in the sevie island so who wouldn't go there . If you want to complete the pokedex it's compulsory.
