I just heard an interview with Jonas, where he admits that he wanted Wout to win the stage, so when he heard that Pogacar did not gain time on him he stopped pushing hard for the stage win in order to let Wout win. This make my heart melt. True sportsmanship and what a team.

@@dio8450 But JV could have picked that up on the last climb, I don't think anyone doubts that.
Had TP beaten WvA's time, JV would have gone all in to win it - alas TP didn't so JV was content with just beating TP's time, and thereby silencing all the petty people who kept saying: "JV is only winning cuz his team is better".

Super critical words last night in the Netherlands’ most important cycling talk show.
People like Marcel Kittel were among the guests, and they were extremely disappointed how TJV handled press conference questions regarding doping after the finish. They were saying that after being so dominant this seeason, TJV has a responsibility to be transparent about their performances in order to not re-create much of the doubt that the Armstrong era brought to cycling.
Since TJV is a Dutch team and the talk show is usually extremely biased in favor of them, I was quite taken aback by these strong words. What are your opinions guys?

The people saying JV gave away the win are being disrespectful toward Van Aert. Van Aert is a tank and he was the fastest. I imagine after the near crash, JV was thinking "right, let's just get this home rather than trying to be a hero." WVA makes going to the edge look easy. JV nearly lost everything trying to match him and it may well be that he didn't have the legs to keep doing it and be confident of maintaining control. Would have been just a silly risk.
Van Aert won fair and square and on merit.

  • @TellusJD

Jonas definately let of the gas in the end for wout. He was 4-5 seconds faster 3 km before the goal and then comes in 17 seconds after him at the end at the point where he was strongest. You can see he was celebrating on the way back and sitting up taking it slow. However wout deserved the win and it i is not like there would have been a big difference only 5-10 seconds on the whole TT if jonas went for the win.
