You just put a big smile on your grandfather's face. After first seeing that old Stihl chainsaw I thought there is just no way possible that it can be restored. What a fantastic job!!
All I can see from this video is this...An 85 year old shriner driving his go-cart in a parade suddenly has a stroke then by the grace of God misses all the little kids picking up candy veering off towards a canyon then plummeting to the bottom into a fiery crash giving the spectators PTSD and the children a lifetime of therapy. Compared to that, rebuild of the chainsaw, the shriner scenario seems more humane .

And how, would a Chainsaw be “artificially rusted”? If it was dipped into some kind of rusting solution, the whole inside of the Chainsaw, including the inner of the crank case would be completely pooched. That includes the crank and piston as well.

Rebuilt one of these O8S about 6 months ago easy saw to work on
