The potato chips are sold in Germany under the name Pringels and not Lays. + Why would you anybody send a chainsaw halfway around the world when the manufacturer and the best spare parts supplier for a Stihl saw is in Germany and hardly anyone in Germany is called Jonathan.
I'm no restoration expert..but this fella did a fantastic job.. Money aside... Job well done. In my opinion STIHL makes the best chainsaws out there and this guy just bought one back from the dead. There's something Very therapeutic about watching these restoration videos. Job well done man.
As someone that works on Stihls everyday as a profession, that saw is not old enough or cool enough to justify that kind of money. A grand tops with serious sentimental values.
Ya, it has star head screws. Looks like it came out of a collapsed barn . I worked with a guy around 1980 who had a Stihl chainsaw from the 1940s . It was like 20hp mower engine with a cutting bar. He bought it as a collector item . I'm betting he still has it today
If you prepped the engine cases better before painting them this would of be a 10/10, you should never paint the inside of the cases, also the mating surface for the cylinder base should of all been masked off prior to painting (no hate intended) think of it as constructive criticism
Totally agree, but just an fyi, Stihl painted the inside of the crankcase in the factory on some of there saws. I have an 042 and that is case with it.

I'm so glad you said this. I'm not a restoration pro at all, but I love watching them and watch a lot. I found myself immediately cringing when the painting sandblasting (if you can call it that) and painting was happening with a fuel tube that was left wide open, pitting, etc. It just looked awful, and I thought "Sweet baby Jesus I hope noone paid $10k for this half-assed cosmetic job. That's a pretty impressive set of tools going on there for $10,000.00, especially the sensitive paint brush and tweezers for dis-assembly work, at least it's warm in Asia and you need not worry about freezing temps affecting your cleaning chemicals.
I really like the way machined surfaces are painted before using gaskets and gasket sealant is used with paper gaskets... must be a new thing but $10k to restore a $1k-$2k saw is a stretch.

agree, the rubber and plastic was still pliable with no cracks, no stuck bolts or screws, no internal rust. Heck the plugs even looked fairly clean.
