@@darbs1832 because maho could see the dismantles, he could defend against them. sukuna started using feints and allat in hand to hand combat, as you can see with his lil troll he did at 4:39. when sukuna was hitting the mj pose and sending out all the dismantles, maho was punching and defending against them cuz he could see them.
@@journeysphere33 it was both, maho was trying to punch/block the slashes but sukuna was faking him out and not actually launching dismantles and instead just holding the finger pose.

There is like an additional 1:30 min of pure action and keyframes added to the fight. It gives so much destruction and epicness!

This episode was born to be one of the greatest action spectacles in terms of animation based off the staff list but forced to be made under bad scheduling (my bad if this came off as cringe)

TMI about the fight scene:
Mahoraga learned that when Sukuna raises his hand, attack follows, so Mahoraga reflexively defends when Sukuna raises his hand.
Sukuna, who saw through this, deceives Mahoraga by raising his hand as if to use the attack, then fakes the timing once, and attacks.
When Mahoraga raises his hand and the attack doesn't immediately follow, instead of defending, he switches to attacking.
However, Sukuna, who saw through this, launches the attack immediately this time, without baiting.
Due to Sukuna's continued baiting, errors occur in Mahoraga's thinking, making it impossible to make a proper judgment when Sukuna raises his hand.
As a result, even when Sukuna simply raises his hand, Mahoraga repeats the abnormal behavior of alternating between attacking and defending.

There needs to be a scene where Sukuna stands on Mahoraga and just fires off slashes in Mahoraga's face, like Sukuna had a gun to Mahoraga's face.

What I love about this version is that it shows us Maho adapting to Sukuna's tricks, which now makes sense how Sukuna figured out his ability.

That's what happens when a studio contacts the Hakuyo Go team for an episode or many episodes of an anime. Most talented animators in the industry lead by Hakuyo Go to make the highlight episode for that season. They worked on Fate apocrypha, heavenly delusion, Mob pyscho, hell even their first anime together My Hero Academia.

This isn't even the Go team anymore they just brought in like half of the top talent in the entire industry for this episode. The staff list is insane, Weilin Zhang's sequence that's only a minute long contains 15 animators lol

Can anyone explain what's blu ray like is it some other animation company who re animated it even though mappa did.
No. No one re-antimated this. it's still Mappa. This is the blu ray version (a physical high definition DVD you put in a disc player to watch) that came out in Japan. It will get released in other countries at a later time. The episode was not 100% completed when it aired. The animators went back and finished animating the episode to full completion (though many say this isn't fully completed still so I guess we'll wait and see) for the physical blu ray edition. Sometimes with anime the company goes back and fixes anything or refines some of the animation for the DVD/Blu-Ray edition.
Main thing is only little changes are done for blu ray however the animation team go all out for this ep . Probably this blu ray version is the biggest ( in the sense they add new fight which very very rarely happen )

@@cr6zym0nkeyiz People say it still isn't finished because they are still just fixing a broken product. For it to be 100% of what they wanted it would have to be redone completely with the appropriate time. It's like breaking a plate and glueing it back together, it will never be as whole as just making a new plate.
Just wanted to say that this version is STILL "unfinished", I guess you could say. This episode is fundementally broken, created in a poor schedule. For this episode to truly achieve the Hakuyu Go vision it would have to be created from scratch, completely re-story boarded and that won't sadly happen. Even though the blu ray version is phenomenal, there are still many unfinished and melting cuts. This episode, with the team of Go, Miso, Harumi Yamazaki, Sunakohara, K1RO, TNK, HoneHone, Weiling Zhang, Vincent Charsard, Nakaya Onsen, Bahi JD, Julian, Kazuto Arai, Hayato Kurosaki, Toshiyuki Sato and many more could've created the magnum opus of animation. Something truly divine, but corporate greed has struck again. Let's hope that a team like this is assembled once again under conditions that allow for a completed vision.

I'm gonna be in minority but hey, hottake: I don't really like that fight...
I think the level of chaos in this full fight and generally in ep 17 is just too high. I get it, it's the big epic duel, but the amount of destruction and the lenght of the fight is just tiring. Kinda makes me think like it's some sort of transformer movie or one of godzilla movies where it's just fight fight destruction with no substance.
And then there's the fact of how the animation actually looks and in my opinion it looks kinda crap. It's clearly unpolished and unfinished in general, some of the cuts look out of place, like it's from a different show with different artstyle.
And there's also a risk. If mappa sees such a positive response to unfinished episodes they might be like "oh hey we actually don't have to work hard as we used to and finish our episodes, we can just release them unfinished because people are gonna love us anyway", nah this never should've happened.
What I was expecting from the blu-ray version was that they'd improve the quality of already existing scenes. I never expected that there would be more, and there wasn't really a need for more. I think I would've prefered if they just focused on what they had in original episode and just tweak it so that the episode looks better.
