I didn't even calibrate wtf was going in this remaster. No hate to the animators, but if they had more adequate time to draw out their ideas, then it would've looked a lot better (instead of a bunch of smeared lines, shapes, and special effects). Yuji vs. Choso was the best fight this season. In fact Yuji vs. Choso is one of the best fights I've ever seen period.

80% of these scenes are pure creavity of the director & animator squads. The fight in manga was more simple and only lasted couple of manga panels. Just imagine in S4 with Gojo vs Sukuna. Their fight lasted for 13-14 chapters.
The animation team is doing a great job with the fights in JJK. It's one of those shows that's best watched in anime form unlike some others (One Piece, OPM, SpyXFamily) where the manga is overall better.

More specifically, I'd guess that they'd assumed Sukuna having a viable vessel at all that he can even potentially take control of for any amount of time would inevitably lead to him at least finding a way to regain a large chunk of his strength quickly and pull something like this at the bare minimum, with a full-powered revival being all too likely. Killing Itadori on the spot would've been the simplest, quickest, and least risky way to deal with the problem in the short term, whereas Gojo's plan would potentially deal with the problem permanently but was also outlandishly risky.
I never really knew what was going on in the unfinished version but that shit was hard and my fave fight ever. The Blu Ray version just made this shit untouchable
People really forget that Megumi deciding to throw in the towel on his life by summoning Mahoraga was what really caused Shibuya to get obliterated. It's doubtful that the amount of destruction that occurred would have happened if Sukuna didn't feel the need to defeat Mahoraga to save his BFF Megumi. . But this extended version / directors cut is beyond insane. All of the new parts and added details to existing parts fit so well and was amazing to see the animators' full vision finally released.

An interesting thing about the scene when Sukuna eats the popcorn and drinks the soda is that he didn't do it simply because he wants to show off how unserious of a fight he initially saw this as (although that's probably part of it), the more "Sukuna reason" is that he wanted Yuji to have something in his stomach to puke up when he switched back and saw all of the carnage that he caused as Sukuna. Simply because Sukuna is that petty and hates Yuji that much.

Sorry but solo leveling IGRIS > Sukana vs. Mahoraga THEY DID IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME without it having to be done again and didn’t need 17 episodes before the fight was shown animation was coo but was rushed and the poor animators were overworked solo leveling had the episode done b4 hand 💀💀
Production wise, yeah mappa fumbled hard af. Quality of animation? Nah. Igris fight wasn't 1/3 the length of the sukuna fight. Great fight, but there was 1000x more work in this. And it shows.
