I think the best way to describe this type of animation is pure fluidity. The characters being off-model make it look like crap when you look at it frame-by-frame, but it's perfection in motion. It doesn't look like a human being could've made it, and not in the AI or CGI kind of way. I remember when the Pain vs. Naruto fight happened, back when this type of animation was a hell of a lot less common. People either hated it because "the faces were dumb" or thought it was one of the best animated fights in the series. I fall into the latter camp for the reasons stated above. I don't care if the screenshots look weird; if the flow is consistent and energetic, I'm a happy camper.

For people who don't get the punching air scene: It's starts with 6:18 the first pump fake sukuna throws, since he hasent faked a slash yet majoraga hasent adapted to the fake slash's and is treating everything like a real attack which leads to the the iconic pointing scene in 8:53 Basically sukuna is playing with majoraga in this part and majoraga is trying to block,parry, whatever attack that might come out till we reach to scene 9:59 where majoraga finally adapts then uses its own pump fake, this is crazy because majoraga is a divine being and sukuna basically taught him how to lie in the fight and is shown in the impact frame of the scene where sukuna is getting hit, their more little details that aren't known and I haven't said but I strongly recommend looking up a video about its story boards it is legitimately crazy and makes you recontexulize everything about this fight truly amazing work they pulled here

Mappa did not storyboard this, hakuyu go did. The cinematography is not a product of mappa. Hakuyu go has scenes like this on every episode he has directed. This episode is amazing but his other projects are something else entirely
The f###ed up part of the MJ scene is that Sukuna is making Mahoraga look like a fool. Sukuna knows that Mahoraga is adapting. It's now positioning its body parts in ways that become projectiles to hit hit Sukuna after getting cut by Sukuna's attacks. So that segment was Sukuna faking out Mahoraga by extending his arms out to pretend to throw slashes as a feint. The worst part is... Sukuna planned that s###. Mahoraga is a divine entity, and Sukuna started throwing feints, knowing that Mahoraga would adapt and use them. Since feinting is a form of deception. He taught Mahoraga, a divine entity, to lie and thus corrupt its divine status. That's the equivalent of a child teaching a robot to say bad words and insults for fun. Sukuna is just different.
You’re not lying. I was most excited for this fight to get done and they butchered it first time round. I know it was incomplete, and I know they were working them to the bone. I totally get it, just as a fan of the manga dawg💀not the fight to leave out the anime incomplete. Some of the highest jujutsu sorcery we are gonna see for a while.
