It's possible your approach & 3K metric is misguided. Your best performance is going to come from the shoe that's the least fatiguing over distance, particularly for your class of runner - which I was. Though I could toe strike a 10K in flats, and midsole strike a Half in a lightweight trainer, I lacked the strength & ability to wear either for 26.2 and go sub 3 - and the shoes I ran fast in at short distance became incredible fatiguing for the back half of a marathon. When I switched it up and wore highly supportive stability or cushion shoe with great ventilation to reduce foot swelling - shoes I would never wear for a 5K or 10K, I was able to run negative splits at the M distance and go sub 3. I could be wrong but from what I've seen, for weekend warrior class runners at the M distance - the best shoe is the one that's the least fatiguing (and rarely an impressive performer at 5K or 10K races).
Wasn't meant to be the most scientific test of all time but I see your point! Any of these modern day shoes should be able to carry me around a marathon comfortably if I've trained properly, so thought I'd find a way to pick one.
Sub 3 is not weekend warrior 😂 and you’re also referring to to the show world of a decade ago. Carbon shoes have completely changed the game. “I could be wrong”. Safe to say… you’re wrong my guy.
@@dbo4506 In my racing circles, clocking a 2:58, 2:59, etc, even into my mid-40's was weekend warrior caliber, no more, no less. Lots of runners of all levels are abandoning carbon shoes, including elites for how they've been detrimental to their running, Podiatrist, Physical Therapist, & Chiropractors document the damage they cause on some runners (of all levels) - none of this is my opinion, it's all fact based - you can search it on Google and or TH-cam, "Carbon shoes Injury". Now my opinion is if you have a BMI over 24, you're probably doing subtle gradual incremental damage to ligaments, joints, tendons - extending from the hip and below - at least that's what the physical therapist report. You're argument is not with me, it's with the elite runners and coaches that advise against running in carbon shoes (after years of experience in them). Suggesting there is no musculoskeletal risk in wearing carbon shoes to all levels of runners is simply choosing to be uninformed and uneducated.
what an amazing review! really needed live stats to go along with all the various opinions on shoes. Subscribed and looking for more awesome videos like this!
I just got the asics sky paris as well, as they felt really fast on the treadmill in the store. Took them for a test run yesterday, and ended up with the same exact speed as the week before. But from what I hear, they should be good towards the tail end of your race, but I'm still not convinced. Might need more time to get used to it though, as it's very different from what i am used to.
Yeah, felt lovely to be fair. A tad small though, took them for a 5K this week and toes were a bit sore at the end, so defo not gonna risk for the marathon!
The Paris Edge is more like the Vaporfly 3 because of the similarity of the placement of the plate in the midsole being lower to the ground. The Sky Paris is more of an upper midsole plate, thus giving a different ride.
For anyone else interested the heart rates were as follows: - VF 3's: 155bpm Hoka Cielo: 161bpm AF: 164bpm Pro 4's: 165bpm Asics: 166bpm Pretty much as expected with a slight increase as distance on feet increased.
What is your size for the VF3, Cielo X1, and Sky Paris? I’ve got 9.5 for both VF3 and Cielo X1. Should I get the 9.5 as well for the Sky Paris? Or should I size up?
I wonder if there are many biases to this sort of testing with things like, warming up, fatigue, weather etc although very small likely negligable differences at such a high level. Good luck with the marathon 😀
Do you know if alphafly 3 need breaking in? I have a half marathon tomorrow and they just arrived today, really want to wear them for tomorrows race but today is a rest day and haven't used them yet...

Cheers mate!
AF-1’s help a ton with leg fatigue too. What an incredible shoe
Phenomenal!
Interesting video and good fleet of shoes. Im running in Brighton and going for a sub3 attempt too. Will be donning the VF3s 🤞
Ah nice, will probably see you Sunday!
@@CrownMyRun good luck 👍
Love your channel! Best of luck!
Thank you!!!

Ah yes, that makes sense - thanks!
the best video on youtube
I am thinking if I regret using the AF3 than AF1 as my 2 previous marathons were AF1 with AF3 as my third PB.
Gonna have to grab some OG AF the next chance I get.
They really are the best still!
Weird hearing you do a run-along commentary in real-time rather than voiceover. Good luck in the marathon!
Thank you!!
Nice Test. Looking for the most breathable super shoe, any recommendations?
I'd probably say VF3 to be fair!
in my opinion you better fix the velocity and monitor the hearth rate
How were the Sky and the VF on the calves?
Great video by the way
VFS is definitely good on the calves for me, think I need to do some more testing in the Sky's!
@@CrownMyRun thanks for answering,
Im torn on what pair to buy
How did avg heart rate compare for each run?
For anyone else interested the heart rates were as follows: -
VF 3's: 155bpm
Hoka Cielo: 161bpm
AF: 164bpm
Pro 4's: 165bpm
Asics: 166bpm
Pretty much as expected with a slight increase as distance on feet increased.
Cheers mate haha! I'd been out and was meaning to check!
Would Hoka C X1 qualify more as a super trainer?
I would say probably but Hoka are advertising them as their premium marathon shoe!
May I ask you what software/application are you using for displaying the metrics over the video caption?
Of course, I use the Insta360go3 and pull in my garmin data with the included app!
@@CrownMyRun thank you.
which hardware you using, cam with hr and speed?
I see the insta360go3 that lets me pull in my Garmin data with a few clicks!

9.5 for all. I myself would definitely size up in the Sky Paris if I knew what I did now!
@@CrownMyRun so I need to size up then for a little room for my kinda wide forefoot
@@allenkmp yeah, I think so!
Hello! Could you add your HEART RATE to the results? That would give a clue to relative efforts in the various pairs. Thank you!!!
I'll see if I can!
Missed the big one: Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3
Left them at my parents so couldn't test!

Cheers man!
Have the Metaspeed Sky Paris on the narrow width
Not narrow width particularly but definitely a bit short, I would definitely have gone half a size up at least!
1500 dollars worth of RUNNING SHOES. Realize that.

I'm pretty sure they don't need break in from reviews I've watched but not 100%!
no breakin required imho
@@jean-phil i ran the half marathon this morning and ended up not breaking them in, wore them fresh at the race and pb'd by 2 minutes! hit a sub 140
