Good vid. Can you bind a generic esc remote control (like the one you showed) to a vesc? I have an eBay esc/remote that is 50a dual (25a per motor) and it seems to be the bottleneck that keeps me from climbing any slight hill (and I'm in SF, so that's a prob). I know my hub motors can handle more and my batteries are high C. Any opinion before I buy a higher amp vesc? Thanks man.
My whole impetus for building my own eskate was that I wanted a non longboard with a tail to make turns, which for whatever reason they don't make.

Great video for us new folk.
I've got a very early e-glide off road board with a huge old fashioned 36v 1000w motor on it and a wired hand controller to a 70A idrive controller.
Can you recommend an esc or vesc that would be suitable for my set up?
This is a low budget, transport only board that was given to me and im using old 10ah ebike batteries so don't want to spend a fortune but may look to upgrade the motor (or replace with two ) in the future.
I also build battery packs but am looking for a bms for charging and discharge control, do the esc's you use have this function or do i need a separate one on the pack still, if so, can you recommend a couple to look at?
    Massively appreciate your input.
Any fabrication or mechanical modifications required are fine as i have a workshop with lathes, millls, welders etc.
Cheers, and thanks for any help you can offer!
    Nice one!
    Edit,
I see you're using three phase motors, mines a straight dc one, if there's something i can use to make it work with this motor, with a view to upgrading to a nicer, lightweight motor like yours, that would be great, but happy to hear any ideas you have!

Do you know where I can find a motherboard diagram? Mine came with led's and has a buck module attached to it in the middle of the board... It used to work at specific voltages.. Now it never works.. But it was triggered by the rf remote... So I'm assuming the esc controlled output to the led's. Now it outputs voltage but it seems the current is limited

I'm used to having a flight controller as the middle man with drones, but I have no idea how I would directly connects 2 vesc's to one receiver.
Do I just splice the PPM signal wires coming from the receiver?

Ok, ive been thinking about building a electric long board for a while and this seems right up my alley because i used to work on rc cars when i was a kid. I'm just wondering do you have to configure the vesc when you receive it or can you use it as a normal esc and just plug it in and play. I'd like to be able to use it straight out of the box and then later when i have time i might think about diving into the world of customization.
    Thanks!

You have to program a vesc but if you look it up on tube Mike (the guy in this video) walks you thru it. It's not really all that complicated. Btw I highly recommend a vesc because it'll be a night and day difference in power speed quality ect. Turns a toy into a dangerous fun performance machine!

    • @MBoardsco

      I am no expert.
A tech at an RC shop told me that those two styles cannot be charged on the same charger.
I’m guessing because the input and discharge rates are different and “can’t” perform the same task at the same time
It might cause issues if one battery drops to lower voltage than the other and becomes a drain ending in damage somehow

I would like to use a 12 s p battery I think that's what it is. Could you please recommend a ESC that I do not have to program and is reliable for the motors that I have? KV: 190

    Max Volts: 12S
    Max Torque: 8Nm

Well if one side of a dual ESC dies, the whole thing needs to be replaced. If one single dies, then only a single needs to be replaced. Makes for cheaper repairs.

Have you made any progress on your M1 project?

I've been confused about something for a while. Why is voltage measured in how many batteries are connected in series, and not in volts? I understand that connecting batteries in series will give the combine voltage of the batteries (parallel does the same for current). What I am confused about is which is important, how many volts a battery con provide, or how many cells are connected in series? For example, if a non-standard one cell battery provides the same voltage and current as a battery with 6 standard cells, could it be used with a 6s ecs?

    • @PatRiot-
      @PatRiot- 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I believe that would be fine- but there is more to the story about how you choose to make that voltage.
one guy put 2 5s batteries in series on his board to make the voltage equal to the demand of the esc
The board worked but he was on repair forum for a failure due to the Battery additions (I think lag in voltage under such high demand caused resistance and heat)
Im also guessing the voltage wasn’t the same “wavelengths” and speed if we looked at at them on a chromograph (or whatever it may be called) they are probably different in minor ways that ended up a big issue a mile down the road
It’s a shame the video poster didn’t get to this question
I want to know as well

That motor looks a little small for electric skateboard applications. You might want to consider a 5055 or a 6355. The KV of your motor is also pretty high. We recommend a KV rating between 180 and 270.
If you do opt to use that motor your best bet would be a Vesc.

If you rear mount the motors and use individual lipo cells (1s 10k mAh, $10 on eBay) then a drop deck will be fine. But if you're gonna use rc lipo batteries then a flush mount longboard deck is best.

Hey man! I built myself a 10s 2p longboard with the cheap 2 wheel drive esc for 50€ ...the one you get on AliExpress you know :D. But now i have the issue that the esc turns off at 36v eventho its ment for 10s. So that means my cells aren't empty yet when the esc turns off and i cant drive full range. Any tips or tricks? Are you aware of that problem? And keep up the incredible vudeos man!! You are an inspiration

    • @MBoardsco
      @MBoardsco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You may have to take a look at your battery construction. If your battery cells break connection for even a second the ESC will shut off. You may also want to contact the seller you got it from. Many similar looking ESCs are sold many places so it may just depend on which iteration you have.
We don’t have experience with the specific version that comes from AliExpress to help you but we suggest taking a look at your battery or contacting the seller for a replacement.

Omg i think i figured out what my problem with the cheap 50$ esc's is. So when i looked at the voltage drop illustration of lipo and ion cells i noticed that a lipo is 80% empty at 36v but a lithium ion battery isn't. So to me it seems like all those esc's are programmed/built for lipos. Would that make sense to you or do you have any clue if there is a site to get those esc's for lithium ion batteries? 🤔 I'd love to hear your thoughts on this :D

Hello, I am looking for an ESC with remote control, but I am not familiar with it. I have a motor and a battery, but I can still change the battery if this increases the performance
The data for the motor from the manufacturer are:
KV (rmp / volt): 270 rmp / volt.
    ESC: 80 A.
    Power:> 1820 W.
    Tensile strength: 3 - 5.5 kg.
    Resistance: 42 kV.
    Open circuit current: 1.5 A.
Suitable battery (not included): 3S-8S (11.1V-29.6V)
    And for the battery:
    5A
    74.0 Wh
    4S1P
    14.8V

I hope someone knows it well and can help me.
