Just saw it in the theater again. Can’t believe it’s been 40 years. Such a great movie and it still holds up. Love a scary movie that isn’t overly gory or violent.
I'm glad BJ knew that in the 80's when the broadcast would go off for the night, they played the national anthem and then there was just static on the screen for the next few hours until the broadcast started again in the morning. Kids these days would not understand that scene at all. They wouldn't understand the very notion of a tv channel signing off for the night.
When decorating for Halloween a few years ago, I decided to stage a scene of Carol Anne in front of the TV. I never anticipated how difficult it would be to induce static on a modern TV! I had to find a mp4 clip online, and just put it on a continuous loop. 😅
I saw this movie six times in the theaters when it came out in 1982. The first time I went by myself, was terrified. Kept going back to see it and bringing different friends to see it every time. This movie was so terrifying because it was every childhood nightmare brought to life. And that's what I loved about it. You learned what every character feared and then their fear came to life on screen. The only scene that seemed out of place was the researcher who pulled his face apart in the mirror. It was completely out of step with the rest of the movie. Years later I had the great pleasure of meeting Zelda Rubinstein, who played the medium, Tangina. She was as sweet as could be.
Did Asia and BJ skip that scene in this reaction? That's part that I remember vividly as a kid (it was so graphic!), but don't see it here in this video...
The handsome African-American man is Richard Lawson (currently married to Tina Knowles Lawson (yes, Beyonce's mom)). He has co-starred in quite a few movies and TV shows during the 1970's. Also, some people thought that this movie was cursed because at least 4 of the stars/co-stars of this movie passed away shortly after the movie was made.
*Ohhh this is gonna be good - so here's something terrifying:* _The skeletons in the end swimming pool scene were _*_REAL_*_ human skeletons. It was cheaper for the film crew to buy real ones than fake ones (which is disturbing). They didn't tell the actress until after they were done filming the scene._ I would not have wanted to be the one to tell her, lol
"You son of a b*tch you moved the cemetery but you left the bodies, didn't ya?! You son of a b*tch you left the bodies but you only moved the headstones! YOU ONLY LEFT THE HEADSTONES!!" That was a fantastic scene. One of the best horror movies of all time.
Very true, but also, Spielberg didn't direct this, he was the producer. Even so, as you said, he was on fire!! E.T. stole all the Oscars that year, but this one was nominated for several also.
@@msdarby515 true, that's why I used the term released rather than directed. Fun fact, in some circles, rumor has it that Spielberg did direct it on the sly. Not sure if it was to skirt film academy rules. You see an awful lot of Spielberg in the behind the scenes with both sets of kids
I remember my parents watched this when it was released and they both said it was a genuinely scary movie. Two days later my brother and I convinced them to take us to see it and they were right…. it’s a very good and scary movie. No ridiculous crap, just damn good story telling and movie making. 🔥

What really sells this movie and the threats is the family. They are so natural/believable. Most drama/romance movies fail to achieve this level of credibility.
Absolutely, Jo Beth Williams delivers the "don't touch my babies" line so realistically. In so many recent movies that use almost the exact same lines to a supernatural threat, it just seems forced.
Fun fact about this movie. It broke some barriers in the field of haunted house movies. Prior to poltergeist, haunted house movies almost always occurred amongst the aristocracy in big mansions and such. Romero and Spielberg filmed this movie in a suburban setting that was more familiar and relatable to a broader audience. The Freeling's house looked like a million other houses that most people have been in or lived in rather than the stereotypical creepy old house or mansion that everyone knows to avoid. You can't avoid what looks and feels exactly like the house you live in.
Nominated for 3 Oscars: Best Visual Effects Best Sound Editing Best Original Score It lost all to E.T. Speaking of, they filmed it near the same street ET was being filmed. Spielberg wanted to direct both films back to back but the Directors Guild refused and Spielberg received a producer and writing credit on this movie. The movie is said to be cursed, all because the skeletons in the swimming pool were real!
Well, the younger girl died during the filming of the 3rd movie. The older sister died (suicide? don't remember). Didn't the red-haired lady pass soon after the filming of the first movie? It's been too long; I can't remember exactly.
The actress who played Carol Anne allegedly died from intestinal flu or complications and the actress who played the older daughter was murdered by her real life boyfriend...shortly after this movies release (she was playing an another daughter character in the first V the Visitors miniseries and was replaced by Blair Tefkin...after they found out she had died...the studio making V kept several of the scenes she had already filmed as a tribute but you can only see her from a distance or from behind...the rest is the replacement actress.) Macaulay Culkin has a disturbing interview regarding the plight of Heather O'Rourke and her real demise and its creepier than anything in the movie.
fun fact: The "chair-stacking" scene from Poltergeist was a single unedited take. When the camera turns away, the crew members jostle a plant, and you can glimpse their reflection in the appliances as they quickly swap the chairs with a single glued-together stack
The little girl who played Carol Ann died when she was 12 years old. Her name is Heather O'Rourke. She had some kind of intestine disease. She caught this disease by drinking some well water at her family's home. I was so sad when I heard of her passing.
@@j.woodbury412 Well, that's not what I read. I guess you could consider intestine disease as Crohn's, but she did drink this well water off of her family's property and got sick. That's what is stated. I was was saddened to hear of her death years ago. Such a talented and beautiful child.
One thing about this movie is that it has a very warm heart. The creature design was not too gross (except for the entranceway across dimensions). The people were loving towards each other, and there were many comical moments too. It was made, I think for a young audience ready to be thrilled by the scares, not cringing at real meanness. I saw this in the theatre. I got there 10-15 minutes before showtime and was waiting in the lobby for the movie to end. There was almost non stop screaming coming from inside. To steal a line from another movie "Asia, you're gonna need a bigger blanket." If you haven't already I recommend watching Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock.
The Exorcist is THE scariest movie I have ever seen. It seriously screwed me up mentally. I saw it when I was very young, over 40 years ago. I have never been able to watch it again. Terrifying.
My mother went with her friend to this movie when it first came out and took me with them, thinking I would sleep through it (guess she couldn't find a babysitter). I was 3 or 4 and this movie was traumatizing. I had a clown doll in my room and that thing terrified me - I swore it would move at night but my mom refused to take it out of my room. Thanks Mom.
It's so fun to watch these alongside you guys. This is one of my all-time favorite horror flicks. It's so sad what happened to Heather O'Rourke and Dominique Dunne.
Heather O'Rourke plays Carol Ann, she unfortunately passed away in 1988. O'Rourke's cause of death was ruled congenital stenosis of the intestine complicated by septic shock. She went into cardiac arrest and passed away. She didn't even get to see Poltergeist 3 which was her last movie before passing away.
In real life the oldest daughter was murdered, the youngest dies of congenital stenosis and the boy was almost strangled to death on set by the mechanical clown. Leading to people believing the movie was cursed because they used real skeletons in the pool scene.
The actress playing the little girl, Heather O'Rourke died at 12 from intestinal issues, the actress that played the older sister, Dominique Dunne was murdered when she was 22.
Asia is hilarious she holds the blanket up but doesn't cover her eyes. She holds her hands up to her face but spreads her fingers so she can still see. I laughed out loud watching her.
The ghosts clearly had a strategy for getting the girl. It took me a long time to realize that. Think about it: they snatched her up while the rest of the family focused on getting the boy away from the tree.
One of the great horror classics of all time. I saw this in '82 when it came out and have seen it about four thousand times since. It never tarnishes. Watching it with you two was a blast!
As mentioned before, this movie series did seem to be cursed... The oldest daughter did not return for the 1st sequel, because she (The actress, Dominique Dunne) had been murdered (Strangled) by her jealous ex boyfriend shortly after the first movie came out... then the actress (Heather O'Rourke) who played the liittle blonde girl, Carol Ann, died of a misdiagnosed intestinal blockage at age 12., while the third movie was being made... Combine that with two other cast deaths in the 6 year gap between the first and last films... Sounds like a curse to me.
@@HorribleGamingFun Yeah in the second movie, the bodies used for props were real cadavers they got from some medical college. The stage where the cave scene was shot had all sorts of electrical malfunctions and stuff. Ironically, the guy who played the Indian Shaman guy in the movie was a real Shaman and he preformed some Native American exorcism-thing one night (with the studio's permission) and whatever he did somehow fixed it, there were no more production problems after that....at least not for that movie.

I love how into you guys get. Really satisfying to see my old favorite scary movies still have an impact on new audiences today. Asia's face sometimes is so satisfying. Or hiding with the blanket, so good. And then I know the movie is def a banger when she pulls out the "Babe, I don't think I can watch this.."
Two minutes alter the end credits start to roll, the awesome orchestral music is joined by what sounds like a choir of children singing "la, la, la . .. " to the tune of the score. This continues for about a minute more, after which the sweet sounding "la la la's " dissolve into childish, maniacal laughter - as if ghost children are perhaps laughing at the folly of the Freeling family . . . This goes on for over 20 seconds until the sound fades and the screen goes to black . . . This movie doesn't let go, literally until the last possible second!
As the focus pulls back to run down the doors corridors, she sprints down for her kids and is lifted off her feet as the door opens!!! Omg one of the most dramatical effects I've ever seen!. The desperation of a mother, and power from another world.....MY FAVOURITE MOVIE!!!
"I bet a lot of people had Star Wars covers back then."...I had those EXACT covers. This movie terrified me as a kid. I slept with my closet open for at least a year.

I've watched almost all of their reaction videos, and one of the best things about them is no heady analysis, no trying to figure out what the storyteller is trying to convey, no indepth analysis, just plain ol' along for the ride the movie wants to take you on. Many reacters always analyze the movie they are watching to make it sound like they know what they're talking about. Hello, those of us watching you HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE MOVIE. BJ and Asia are awesome that they are here just to enjoy a movie, no commentary or documentaries. Just sit back, and enjoy the movie for what it is. They react the same way most of us would react when we don't expect anything from the movie. I thorougly enjoyed watching them. Keep up the great work.
the thing is, the medium was correct, the spirits trying to help carol ann had passed on. the one malevolent entity had hidden itself from her sight in order to make one last attempt on her though. thats why the red tint was seen, a visual that it was still present and waiting for its opportunity.

Oh, this is going to be FUN! Yes, the movie is scary and I've seen it umpteen times but I actually find it uplifting, because it leaves one with hope of an afterlife and the possibility of seeing loved ones again.
Carolann looked exactly like my friend, Kathleen, when I was little. My brothers and their friends called her "Polter" bc she looked JUST like her. 😂❤️
My favorite movie ever. I saw it when I was 8 and have been researching the paranormal now for 38 years. They got the title wrong, this was a haunting along with demonic presence (the beast). My team has investigated dozens of hauntings as well as demonic cases. The skeletons in the pool were real skeletons. At the time the movie was filmed real human skeletons were cheaper than plastic ones. Jo Beth Williams, Diane, was so scared filming the pool scene that Steven Spielberg was in the water with her. Best movie ever!
I always have loved this movie! The spirits were attracted to Carolann because of her light. If I remember correctly she was born in that house as well.

I grew up in the era when TVs were huge boxes and were actually part of the furniture in the living room/den. And late at night, after the late late show was over or after Johnny Carson was over, they would play the national anthem & the TV would literally go off for the night. There was no more TV for the rest of the evening. Hard to believe when you consider all the media we have available today.

Spielberg understood how to incorporate elements of horror into a more general audience type of film. His films aren't relentless but the scary moments are properly scary.
This is definitely a blanket movie! The practical effects are pretty awesome. The father (Craig T. Nelson) also did the voice of Mr. Incredible in The Incredibles.
This movie came out on HBO when I was five and I remember peeking out from under the blanket when I was supposed to be asleep on the couch to watch it. I swear it scarred me for life because it was years before TV static didn’t totally creep me out. Maybe I should’ve listened when my mom told me to turn over and go to sleep. This video is the first time I’m seeing it since I was little and I’m glad I watched this reaction because the movie that was built around the scary parts is actually really good.
@@tobindaily9961- Probably on their Patreon.
*Ohhh this is gonna be good - so here's something terrifying:*
_The skeletons in the end swimming pool scene were _*_REAL_*_ human skeletons. It was cheaper for the film crew to buy real ones than fake ones (which is disturbing). They didn't tell the actress until after they were done filming the scene._
I would not have wanted to be the one to tell her, lol
No way 👀 that ain’t right! 😂
They don't make'm like they used to.
You know, for legal reasons
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ thats why they said they been cursed and stuff happened to some of the actors in real life
I find it incredibly ironic they upset the dead to make a film that upsets the dead. They clearly didn’t learn their lesson.
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ 100% real. Bodies were cheaper than props, so.... budget. I believe they "borrowed" them from a body farm. :(
"You son of a b*tch you moved the cemetery but you left the bodies, didn't ya?! You son of a b*tch you left the bodies but you only moved the headstones! YOU ONLY LEFT THE HEADSTONES!!" That was a fantastic scene. One of the best horror movies of all time.
I can hear his voice screaming! Great scene!
1982. Can you believe Spielberg released this and ET in the same year?! Dude was on fire!
The entire 80's were on fire. So many good movies would be released each year. Look at some lists - I still find it amazing.
@@terrylandess6072 And Speilberg was instrumental in a LOT of them.
Yup, ‘82 was a damn good year for ol’ Spielberg!
I remember my parents watched this when it was released and they both said it was a genuinely scary movie. Two days later my brother and I convinced them to take us to see it and they were right…. it’s a very good and scary movie. No ridiculous crap, just damn good story telling and movie making. 🔥
"Poltergeist I - III" is another one of the best triologys of all time. "Hall of Fame". And Jobeth Williams is the most beautiful TV-mom of all time.
Are they all connected or separate?
@@cwfanyshowsedits4144 It's always the same family, but other ghosts. In this way the parts are all connected.
3 was pritty bad IMHO ... Fair play they tried somthing different by relocating to a modern tower block, but the film felt cheap and lost it's Family aesthetic.
I am 53 years old and I remember watching this in the theater. You all had me cracking up!!!! Your reactions were priceless. I LOVED when BJ took the blanket! I'm crying from laughing so hard!! Thank you for bringing back the memories and the laugh!!
Am so jealous. Would have loved to have seen this absolute classic on the big screen. Greetings from England xx
Same. I saw it when it came out, in a packed theater. ✌️✌️
I saw it at the Sacramento Six drive-in.
This was hands down the MOST entertaining reaction I've ever seen. I'm still chuckling. Loved it.
This was the most entertaining ‘first watch’ ever 😀 Asia is the best! When BJ stole her blanket and she snatched it back, I spit up my drink…
Nominated for 3 Oscars:
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound Editing
Best Original Score
It lost all to E.T.
Ah, someone else said murdered, not suicide, so . . .
I love watching these movies with you guys. It’s like watching it in 1982 all over again. You guys are awesome.
The greatest Steven Spielberg film that wasn't directed by Steven Spielberg. Great reaction! 👍🏿
Thanks James! Appreciate you always watching with us
fun fact: The "chair-stacking" scene from Poltergeist was a single unedited take.
She was diagnosed with Chronic bowel obstruction, which is now known as Crohn's disease.

Your reactions are adorable, with trademark blankie, and lovin' on each other. Nice to see this!

Nominated for Best Original Score by Oscar-Winning composer Jerry Goldsmith. In his career, he won one Oscar for "The Omen" (1976). He has a total of 18 nominations. One of the greatest and most innovative film composers of all time.
The Exorcist HAS TO be on your list for this month. Asia will have the blanket over her for the entire movie. It makes Poltergeist look like a comedy.
Yes, they call it the Poltergeist curse. Rip to Heather O’Roarke (Caroline) and Dominique Dunn (Dana).
The actress playing the little girl, Heather O'Rourke died at 12 from intestinal issues, the actress that played the older sister, Dominique Dunne was murdered when she was 22.
She died of medical malpractice. She was misdiagnosed and maltreatment. She died from wrong interventions.
The actress who played the older daughter was murdered by her boyfriend.
So sad 😭
So good… BJ you’re gonna need your own Blankey because Asia’s gonna need the whole thing! Another classic for you guys is Nightmare on Elm Street 👻💕
One, two, Freddy's coming for you....
I still get chills listening to that!!!
Asia is hilarious she holds the blanket up but doesn't cover her eyes. She holds her hands up to her face but spreads her fingers so she can still see. I laughed out loud watching her.
That's me watching a horror movie 😅
I was one when this came out and distinctly remember watching this as a child….this movie was BIG in the 80’s
The ghosts clearly had a strategy for getting the girl. It took me a long time to realize that. Think about it: they snatched her up while the rest of the family focused on getting the boy away from the tree.
Steven Spielberg magic, you laugh, you cry, you're terrified.
He is the Master. Great reaction you two 🍿🎥❤️
One of the great horror classics of all time. I saw this in '82 when it came out and have seen it about four thousand times since. It never tarnishes. Watching it with you two was a blast!
whats really weird is that Heather the little girl died of Cardiac arrest in 1988 after poltergest 3 1988 at the age of 12.................
@iMiteBeDrunkButNotDumbLikeU No she didn't. She had a stomach ailment. The other first was murdered, tho...
"THEY'RE HEEERE" went down in history as 2 of the creepiest words combined. 😂
"I bet a lot of kids had Star Wars covers back then." Yep. I had them for "The Empire Strikes Back," along with matching curtains.
I love this movie. The TV People will love your reaction too.
Thanks Windsor Kid!!!
Sounds like a curse to me.
that's what they said she died from - some in Hollywood have a very different story and some first hand accounts.
There's also the claims that they used REAL human remains as props
@@HorribleGamingFun Yeah in the second movie, the bodies used for props were real cadavers they got from some medical college. The stage where the cave scene was shot had all sorts of electrical malfunctions and stuff.
Ironically, the guy who played the Indian Shaman guy in the movie was a real Shaman and he preformed some Native American exorcism-thing one night (with the studio's permission) and whatever he did somehow fixed it, there were no more production problems after that....at least not for that movie.
@@aliciasavage6801 I've heard the story. Some of her family members have denied it, and I hope that's true. Then again it's an open secret that Hollywood is pedo heaven.

80's kid here, this movie scared the crap out of me, I was about Robbie's age when it came out. RIP to Heather and Dominique
I was 14 when this movie came out and back then it scared the crap out of me. Now I "just" think it's one of the best movies ever, I never tire of watching it.
JoBeth Williams, who plays the mom, gives a powerhouse performance as a mom in peril.
In Texas, once a cemetery always a cemetery. A developer would have lost his license to broker land in Texas as well as been sued by the state and many private individuals. The information of a cemetery, on site, must be disclosed to buyers by the seller. Great reactions!

I was born in 1978, and Poltergeist is straight up one of my favorites of ALL TIME!! It almost never gets old!! That's saying a lot, because almost all movies get worn out to me. Eventually. It was so lovely watching you two experience this movie for the first time! Take care!!!🙂
Oh Asia, you and your blanket! 😂 There is a Poltergeist 2, which explains a bit more as to why Carol Ann is a target. There is more to this story. So if you decide to watch the 2nd one, then you’ll see. Thank you, I really enjoyed this reaction. Reminded me of when I first watched it. 💕

I would not recommend watching the 2nd or 3rd movie. They were dreadful in my opinion.
I agree!
fun fact, speilberg was filming ET the next neighborhood over, and would come on this set alot to help out Tobe Hooper :P
Oh, this is going to be FUN! Yes, the movie is scary and I've seen it umpteen times but I actually find it uplifting, because it leaves one with hope of an afterlife and the possibility of seeing loved ones again.
Which might not be all that attractive when they all covered with that meat goo.
Carolann looked exactly like my friend, Kathleen, when I was little. My brothers and their friends called her "Polter" bc she looked JUST like her. 😂❤️
"THE TREE WAS A PERSON!" is the best quote from this movie
What a pleasure watching one of my favorite movies with you. This movie came out in 1982, the same year as E.T. I think I enjoyed this one more. You two are so much fun to watch with. When Asia looked for the blanket and BJ had grabbed it!! I lost it!😂😂😂
😂🤣😂Best part for me was Asia snatching her blanket away from BJ, talking about 'Gimme ma blanket!' Her hands so quick with it!😂I love these 2!
Great reaction. The old dead spirits wanted the little girl for her Youthfulness & they chose that house because the Dad worked for the guy that moved the cemetery. Cool movie. Now get to "My Cousin Vinny"!! Go from "Youthful" little girl to the "Two Yutes"! (You will get it when you watch My Cousin Vinny. :)
It is revealed in Part II or Part III that Carol Anne was also born in that house
❤ Heather O'Rourke ❤ alias "Carol Ann". She died at the age of 12. She never left the 80's.
1982 was a fun summer with both Poltergeist AND E.T. in the theaters. Steven Spielberg was in the groove! 😀
A poltergeist affects a location or object, while possessions effect people. You should look up the terrible deaths and accidents that surrounds the filming, actors and crew from this film series. Great reaction! 👍😊
Yes a few cast members from this film had sudden deaths a few short years later? Many ppl felt it was in some way tied to this movie!!
Read about the supposed Poltergeist curse. To start the girl who played Carolanne died at age 12 or 13.
Asia, you called it with the tree. Great job!!! I was a child when I saw a part of this movie and it scared me to death!

Hey, wow twomuchgame!! Thanks
Growing up in the 80s was an honor.
My favorite part of thr entire movie. A matchbox car rolled across a floor, it took hours. The dad looking at him like, hmm, ok.
Fun fact: Near the end, when Diane was in the pool with the skeletons, those were REAL. They used real corpses that were donated to a lab because it was cheaper than making them out of rubber or plastic.
The urban legend is that this movie franchise (there were 3) is cursed because a few actors had accidents on set or even died after these movies were made. Heather O’Routke, the little girl who played Carol Anne, died of septic shock when she was 12.
Fun Fact: The father in this movie played by Gray T Nelson who also voice Mr Incredible from Pixar The Incredibles.
I forgot how good the music score was for this movie. It's perfect.
I was 6 years old when this movie came out and I remember refusing to go to the movie with my mom and my brother because my mom had already tricked me into going to see Creepshow with my dad talking about, ''It's a comic book movie." I was scared to death. Now, Poltergeist is one of my all time favs. It's my rainy day go to movie. They can keep that clown though. I'm legit terrified of clowns.
I watched this at the neighbor’s house with a group of girls when I was 12. My parents heard all the screaming from next door. 😂
I saw this movie as a matinee so many times when it came out. You two were hilarious to watch this with, Asia was in rare form I don’t think I’ve ever seen her cover her whole head before! 😂😂😂
The music you heard was what TV stations used to play before they'd sign off for the night Between midnight and sometime early in the a.m., TV stations were static. It had something to do with turning off signal distributors. Imagine what it was like when cable TV became available. It was a BIG deal.
