I knew Asia wouldn’t disappoint. If you think this was rough, imagine seeing it in the theater in Dolby Stereo back in ‘79. People were passing out, running out, yelling at the screen. It was insane. It’s kind of normal now, but there was nothing like this before 1979. We weren’t ready.

lol, it gets 4 minutes of screen time because it's a guy named Larry wearing a bunch of cut up bicycle tires.
It's the same story with Jaws and it's an accidental lesson that modern film makers have never had to learn because they can pay for CGI to be on screen in every single shot.

Guys - Don't forget to watch Aliens (part 2) after this. Most sequels don't live up to expectations but part 2 is really worth watching. It is non-stop thrills, action and suspense. Your adrenaline will be pumping. Very different than part 1, but in a great way. All the other Alien movies, part 3, 4, alien vs. predator, etc, are entertaining for sure, but NONE match the directing prowess of Ridley Scott and James Cameron. Not even close. If you want to stop after Aliens, that's a good call. The others are good, just not great.

The chest burster scene is probably one of the greatest scenes in movie history….people were getting sick and running out of the theaters. The actor that played Parker was so traumatized from just filming the scene he actually spent like 2 weeks in his room not wanting to talk to anyone

    • @PygmalionFaciebat
      @PygmalionFaciebat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Thats also because the director James Cameron didnt told details about the chest burster-scene. Also the blood-splattering wasnt told to the actors, so a lot of things indeed came by surprise to the actors. The shock and surprise on their faces are real, and the director kept that footage in the movie, so it feels more realistic, and its even more relatable for the audience. Its another reason why we are really suckd into that movie, and are on the edge of our seats the whole time. Its somehow like watching a life stream of good friends going through a horrifying experience and we can do nothing about it.

Jonesy the cat tried to warn them at least twice. When Brett went to get him he was hiding, hissing & scared. Brett didn't even look behind him till it was too late.
And when Ripley was safely in the shuttle (or so she thought), ready to leave, Jonesy was growling again. He knew the alien was in there.
Whenever there's a cat or dog in a scary movie, they usually try to alert the people...hissing, growling, barking etc. And we silly humans (the characters, at least) ignore them. Just like the characters always split up instead of staying together.
Oh, well. If they didn't do those things I guess it wouldn't be much of a scary movie. Less suspense, less hand-wringing & fingernail chewing.👀🤣

He told the cast to get close, and the first props were set to go off very weakly, with little movement/blood. IMO, it was not received well because of the odd title, which has almost nothing to do with anything, and the fact that it is like a mix of noir detective and scifi, but without really embracing the noir tropes, nor being a special effects laden action movie. Which is why it is considered a cult movie. I'd say it's a hit, not for box office, but for its impact on the written science fiction that followed.

Truly a directing lesson, on how to "build up tension" in thriller movies. That's how movies should be made, show as little as possible, but keep pumping up adrenaline and building up right to the finish line.
Right back in 1979 its absolutely INSANE how they made managed to pull this off with the technology of the 70s, and how this still holds up so well even in 2023. Mad quality of film-making. Just MAD. Ridley Scott. What a master. With this and blade runner, he showed everyone what can done in the sci-fi genre in the late 70s-early 80s. What a legend. Even today's films have huge trouble reaching this amount of quality in film-making.

Another movie that came out the same weekend as Aliens was "Prophecy" starring Robert Foxworth and Talia Shire. If you see Prophecy, you will understand how so far ahead the special effects was. The game involves having to hide under desks and in closets and lockers and avoiding vents because the Aliens are hunting you and respond to noise so you have to walk slowly and quietly. The look on Asia's face is comedy gold. Ash was a android where as an Android works similar to a robot it's an artificial life but all organ's are man made, the brain is a computer and not artificial flesh. But the company planted Ash there to get the life form and bring is back to the company for study at the expense of the crew. Where as a company can write up a work place death story later to cover there ass. And I forget who picks her up on the next movie but in this time period there's hundreds of companies working in space it happens in the not to distant future. I mean space is the last wild west there is. All it takes is one element or alloy to be discovered that the military can't live without and you'll witness hundreds of company's out there in real life. So high probability (without the alien) of course.

Alien was the first to my knowledge to have the crew as more working-class types. The Nostromo wasn’t an exploration ship, but a commercial towing vessel - the crew were essentially space truckers hauling a load of ore back to Earth, wanting to drop it off and go about their lives until the next job came up.

My boyfriend, Mark & I absolutely LOVE BJ's reaction to the alien busting out of the actor's chest
    CLASSIC!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
We love Asia peeking between her fingers or behind the blanket she's held up to her eyes 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A bunch of us went to a midnight showing of 'Alien' when it first came out in 1979. Scared the living crap out of us! LOL. We were walking back to the car looking over our shoulders.

Great reactions! I was 14 when I first saw this movie at the theater. No teasers on the internet back then. I had trouble sleeping for weeks after that. It's still one of my favorite scifi/horror movies.

No way I'm going back for a damned cat. A near perfect film though, from music to direction to the design of the alien. Saw this when it first came out with no idea what it was about and the chest bursting scene didn't just make people scream, it put them into shock. In a large, sold out theatre the response was electrifying.

I saw this when it came out. By accident, as I was too young. OMFG. How traumatising. Certainly the most intelligent scary film ever made. Great reaction from you guys!

Apparently, in one of the first screenings that many of the crew were at someone shouted out 'leave the fuckin cat' at that exact moment.

"Let me tuck my feet in!" made me laugh out loud! A few years ago I went to see 47 Meters Down. I was literally the ONLY person in the big theatre. During the previews (post lights-out) was some dybbuk box horror movie trailer. Just that clip had me so terrified I was literally putting my feet up, kept turning around to see who was there, hiding my face in my coat and soooooo VERY close to high-tailing my butt right on out of that movie theatre!!! I did stay but was so terrified it took me a good 15-20 minutes into my movie before I was able to calm down and focus on what I actually came to see!

I still remember seeing this when I was a little kid (10 or 12). I had just seen and fallen in love with the first three classic "Star Trek" movies and thought this would be similar. It was definitely not similar.

As soon as I saw the thumbnail for you reacting to “Alien”, my first thought was “omg, Asia is going to jump out of her skin watching this movie”! 😂 And I was NOT wrong. I think Asia burned a few calories watching this movie. 🤣

Kudos to whoever edited this. You kept the big jump scares in. I literally yelled out loud a couple of times. My gf was like what the hell are you watching? I loved the fact that you didn't question the obvious outdated technology they are using even though it's taking place in the future. You guys just let the experience pull you in. I love it.

I highly recommend Ridley Scott's other SciFi classic from 3 years after this one, "Blade Runner". It used no CGI whatsoever but it's looks incredibly detailed. It stars Harrison Ford and it does take place on Earth.

The actor who got attacked first in this movie with the alien attached to his face , was also in another great movie !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. The movie is called " Elephant Man " and it stars him and Anthony Hopkins . It's a must watch movie & based on a true story .

Part of Ripley's story, in the first two films, is her development from a thoroughly by-the-book technocratic officer to a person who is willing to embrace a more personal moral-code of connecting with others. Those bonds may put her in greater peril; but, ultimately, prove to be her greatest strength.
It's probably already been brought up, but in the original screenplay, none of the characters had any gender attached. They were all simply identified by their character's name.
