First time I watched this at 13, that Freddy skull face scared me for weeks Fun fact: the actress who played Nancy's teacher is also Elise from Insidious
I always thought that Nancy realizes at the very end of the movie that it is her mother's dream that she is in, not hers. Nancy has defeated Freddy at this point, so he can't come after her in Nancy's, or her friend's dreams. The sequence with the car is Freddy simply moving Nancy and her friends out of the picture, so he can then proceed to attack one of the people he really hates, Nancy's mom. Nancy's shouts of "Mother!" is our heroine desperately trying to get her mom to wake up from the dream before Freddy gets her. Part 2 of the franchise does give the audience one, brief line of dialogue about the final fate of Nancy's mom.
I love this interpretation and it makes the ending make sense to me. That could explain why she talks about giving up drinking because that could have been one of her real-life goals. Oftentimes, we dream about achieving our goals.
ANOES is one of the scariest horrors ever. Jamie Lee and Neve are iconic, no doubt. Sigourney too. But Heather Langenkamp's Nancy is the hardest final girl of all time! Great reaction, y'all. Subbed.
The practical effects in this are next level. I found the upside down bedroom scene where Johnny Depp gets sucked into the mattress pretty cool. Same with the girl flailing on the ceiling. Just so simple and clever compared to the CGI saturation we get nowadays.
People in today's world say that there were no female icons or females to look up to - growing up as a little boy, nancy from nightmare on elm street was one of mine - freddy scared the hell out of me, and nancy stood up to the literal nightmare - TWICE - in this movie and she came back after surviving in part 3 this movie still scared the hell out of me - part 3 is excellent and horryfying, but this one is the scariest of them for me
Whoooweeee!!! Y’all had me rolling again!😂😂😂😂 That last jump scare reaction is everything!! I was 13 years old and in middle school when this came out. There was so much buzz about this movie when it was first released. But again, I was too young to see it in theaters. You might remember my post on your Friday the 13th reaction how I tricked my cousin to sneak into the theater to see that film. Well anyway, my parents bought our first VCR in 1983. Not everyone had one but the were really gaining momentum as most families by 1984 had one. This meant we could watch any movie at home before it would hit cable tv. And when a Nightmare on Elm Street was released on videotape, my mother actually rented it. I was surprised my mother allowed us to watch it. But we loved it! And yes; it scared the hell out of us too. But it was more psychological because of the dreams or nightmares and the situations the characters found themselves in which made for a pretty good watch. Wes Craven directed this one. He also directed Scream. In Scream, he threw in a few nods to A Nightmare on Elm Street. BJ, you actually caught one of them when you mentioned Johnny Depp sneaking up on Heather Langenkamp’s (Nancy) bedroom window scaring her. Wes Craven put that as an homage when Billy does the same to Sidney in Scream. The other nod was when the principal is being tormented at Woodsboro High School, he opens the office door out to the hallway and the janitor is mopping the floor. The guy mopping the floor is Wes Craven. He’s also dressed in the green and red sweater. Principal Himbry also refers to him as “Fred” as in Fred (Freddy) Kruger. Anyway, just some fun facts for y’all. The other thing you have to remember. Back then, studios didn’t give much in terms of budget for making these films. If you look these movies up on Google (Halloween, Friday the 13th & A Nightmare on Elm Street), you’ll see that all of them were made on a shoestring budget. And yet, they managed to far exceed expectations and be very successful movies earning a hell of a lot of money. A lot of credit goes out to directors like John Carpenter and Wes Craven. It was Wes Craven who revitalized the horror movies again with Scream. Sorry; I know it’s a lot of info. But had to share with you both. Can’t wait for the next one!!🥰🎃❤️🙌🏼
Nightmare 1 literally saved new line cinema. They didnt have enough money to finish it and they worked for free till money could be secured. Thats why new line cinema is the house that freddy built
Out of the whole series, this one and parts of New Nightmare are genuinely pretty scary. As much as I like some of the sequels, they weren't scary, especially the joke that was Freddy's Dead. Dream Warriors and Dream Master are the 2 sequels I really enjoyed.
My 2 older sisters got me watching this when it came on HBO & i was about 6 or 7 years old. I had nightmare for days & that's how my insomnia had started. Gotta love the 80s!
Fun fact: the room Tina is killed in was a rotating room. So when she was on the floor she was actually om the ceiling and vise versa. Its the same room they use for Glens death when the blood shoots out the bed. When Nancy gets pulled in the tub shes actually on top of a tank and production designer Jim Doyle was in the hole in the tub connected to the tank with the glove. When shes pulled in that shot is in a pool with a tarp over it so you can tell how deep they are in the water. :) and the wall is spandex when freddy leans out the wall over in the beginning of the film. Practical filmmaking that made me wanna become an actor and director
The Exorcist was the movie that made me afraid of the dark. If you guys have not seen "Fallen" with Denzel Washington check it out. Scared the HELL out of me. Literally 😰
I watched this at the movie theatre when it came out. The only other horror film I had seen before that was The Exorcist when I was about 11 and it really traumatised me. Watching Nightmare on Elm Street traumatised me even more and NEVER watched another horror film until now that I feel safe watching the classics with you guys, thank you 🤗 love you both ❤
I was the same age when I saw The Exorcist. I've always loved scary movies but could never watch that one again. It's the only one that ever affected me.
My Aunt and Uncle moved to Elm Street in the town of Killen (pronounced Killin) after this movie came out. They had never seen or heard of this movie until their kids said, "Elm street? Killen? Have ya'll never heard of Nightmare on Elm St?" They lived a very happy life there until they passed away in their 80's, even their daughter ended up saying, "This is my Happy place
Nobody ever seems to understand the sheep in the first nightmare (it comes back in Freddy Vs. Jason 19 years later). It's Freddy's way of calling you a lamb to the slaughter. Get it? because it's a sheep, and you're gonna get slaughtered with a claw.
I so love their reactions 😅. I was a senior in high school and went to watch it with my two best friends. I loved it. A brand new horror movie for me at that time. I’m a fan.
@32:14 - “That’s probably why she’s on the bottle. Mom has nightmares too”. Well, yes and no. In a deleted scene (which can be found here on TH-cam), it’s explained that Rod, Tina, Glen and Nancy all had older siblings that were killed by Freddy. This is why the parents went after him after Freddy was freed on the search warrant debacle
Just started this reaction. I remember this movie scared a ton of children into trying to stay awake back in the day 😂 If you don't understand the whole dream/awake thing. Basically Freddy can invade your dreams and attack you as long as you're afraid of him. *HE* controls the dreams, which is why the beginning was Tina running in a boiler room, his home base so to speak. Seeing as there was a rumour in the old days that if you died in your dreams you died in real life, they played off that. Whatever happens to you in your dreams happens to you in real life...hence the cuts on Tina's robes & stomach. Also knowing what came later when you said the "there's so much blood" comment, I just smirked 😂
I love how Tina's death shocked you both into silence for about five minutes. Such an impactful death that still holds up to this day. I saw this late 80's when i was 5 and i couldn't sleep for months. Even now ill still have an occasional Freddy Krueger dream. Wes Craven was a genius. Great vid guys.
@@T.F.B.Enterprises 1...2... Freddy's coming for you 3...4... Better lock your door 5...6... Grab your crucifix 7...8... Gonna stay up late 9...10... Never sleep...again
I watched this movie when I was 4 (born in 1981) and I am 41 today and still am freaked out by this movie. I love it...but...I've seen it so many times but cannot watch it at night, in the dark, or by myself. I teach high school and this school hallway scene replays in my mind when I'm walking down a dark hall by myself early in the morning or late at night (I get there early and stay late for tutoring students).

It seems the production team chose that name because it sounds similar to “cruel”.
The part where the boyfriend pops out of the window and into the room? This happened in Scream also because, Wes Craven directed both movies. So, he basically did a shout-out to his own movie.
The red eyes Asia talked about might have been from The Amityville Horror, the original. This is a classic. Part 2 is pretty good, but part 3 is awesome!
I saw this movie when I was a kid at a three movie event at school, first cartoon for younger kids, action for next movie and then horror. This movie was horror saw part of it and went home, was so dam spooked was afraid to turn off the light t go to bed, and when I did, I threw myself across the room a full five feet in the air to land on my bed. Next morning was still dark and was up ran to turn my light on froze when I thought saw someone at the foot of my bed for five minutes before finally turned on the lights. Was some crumpled clothes..LOL. but man this movie scared me for life!
Really? Why? The franchise sucks horribly. They ruined the series with silly nonsense and caricatures. The first movie is great, though. The franchise? Yea, ruined by greed and shyty writing.
I absolutely love Nightmares on Elm street. They just get better and better lol part 3 and 4 are my favorites! I believe it’s one of Lawrence Fishburns starting roles as well as patricia arquette in part 3
Asia, in the beginning, when you mentioned a movie with "red eyes looking in through the window" - that might be from The Amityville Horror. It's a paranormal/haunted house movie that came out 3 years before Poltergeist. 11:56 I laughed here because both of you and I had the same reaction to "Is somebody there?" - 3 words that translate to "I'm about to die".
It sounds like Asia's describing The Amityville Horror, but to me, she looks way too young to have seen a 1979 movie release in theaters, unless it was a special reshowing event
@@fredbeard8867 She said she was born in 1984, the year Elm Street came out. So, she either saw a reshowing of Amityville or she conflated the movie she saw with another that she heard about.
@@Billinois78 I knew that my comment would come back to bite me in the butt. In my defense, I paused & typed the comment right before she said her birth year
Yes, Wes Craven, the director, referenced A Nightmare on Em Street in Scream, mainly in the janitor's clothes and in the scene of the boyfriend jumping through the window.
Johnny Depp in the beginning of his career. How young he looked. And what a concept. A killer that hits you at your most vulnerable... Unless you are a lucid dreamer.
I was 8 when this came out, but didn't see it til I was 12, it gave me nightmares, but now I'm an adult, I love this movie, a great movie. There are 7 nightmare On Elm Street movies in total, but there is also a movie called Freddy Vs Jason, which is also an awesome movie too.😎👌🍿📽️. This was Johnny Depp's first Movie he ever did.📽️🍿👌😎 Robert Englund played Freddy Krueger. 📽️. There is a guy in I think it's Germany, his name is Fredrik Kruger & he actually lived in elm st, when this movie came out, people in his street stayed away from for a while, as it scared them that much . 😮
FunFact: this film was inspired by actual events that took place after the Vietnam war when over 100 deaths within the Hmong community occurred mysteriously. Doctors would call this SUNDS or Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome.
You guys are hilarious. I remember when I saw this at the theater, it scared the hell out of me. I made that exact reaction you had on your face at the end.
All I'm saying is if "Scream and Nightmare on Elm St." did not teach you to quit answering your phone, then you ain't never gonna learn. BJ, the movie for you is 1979 "the Warriors". You will know so many Iconic phrases from this movie. The soundtrack is beyond amazing.
Man, this movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. The idea of something haunts you in your sleep was brilliant. We can only live so long without sleep and you can only fight sleep but so long and then you go whether you want to or not. That is what made it so scary. This movie is in the Top 10 best horror movies of all time. There are sequels as well.
This another movie that gave me nightmares as a kid. I hope you guys get around to watching LEGION a marvel based show that Noah Hawley made, it’s definitely my favorite and I think Asia will have a few blanket moments

At the end, Nancy realized that she was dreaming. She never woke up after she thought she pulled Freddy from the dream. That's how she was able to defeat him. And after that, she ended up in her mother's dream, that's why it was all sunny and perfect..until the freddy convertible
Asia the red eyes looking through the window might be referring to Jodie in the original Amityville horror. The girl's ghost was a boar with glowing red eyes and she would be looking in through the windows!
I remember after seeing this in the theater, me and my friends trying to keep each other awake that night, must have drank a pot of coffee lol. This was a great reaction y'all are too funny.

The officer at Glens crime scene that says "Lt. They're waiting for you upstairs," is the Sheriff in the first Scream movie.
Out of the whole series, this one and parts of New Nightmare are genuinely pretty scary. As much as I like some of the sequels, they weren't scary, especially the joke that was Freddy's Dead. Dream Warriors and Dream Master are the 2 sequels I really enjoyed.
I agree. I like the sequels but when Freddy started becoming the star of the show the scare value wasn't quite the same. New Nightmare was really good
Dream Warriors and Dream Master are both very good. Dream Warriors i felt was genuinely scary as well.
That's because wes craven did them (1st NOES and a New Nightmare
The second one was scary too. It became more comedy horror but all the kills were creative and gross and what nightmares are made of!
Red eyes was probably Amityville Horror...... Another Classic
The Exorcist was the movie that made me afraid of the dark. If you guys have not seen "Fallen" with Denzel Washington check it out. Scared the HELL out of me. Literally 😰
Yup
Yes, I'm 45 and still makes me uneasy watching the Excorcist
I watched this at the movie theatre when it came out. The only other horror film I had seen before that was The Exorcist when I was about 11 and it really traumatised me. Watching Nightmare on Elm Street traumatised me even more and NEVER watched another horror film until now that I feel safe watching the classics with you guys, thank you 🤗 love you both ❤
I was the same age when I saw The Exorcist. I've always loved scary movies but could never watch that one again. It's the only one that ever affected me.
Asia has the most infectious laugh I have ever heard and I love it :)
Watching you two react to these movies is oftentimes more entertaining than the movies themselves!!!
"That's like that boyfriend from Scream." EXACTLY! Wes Craven directed both films, and the Scream killers were mimicking famous horror movies.
I’m a fan.
The red eyes you are talking about is from....."The Amityville Horror." They called the entity Jody the red eyed pig.
I remember this movie scared a ton of children into trying to stay awake back in the day 😂
If you don't understand the whole dream/awake thing.
The TV series in the 80's was so cheesy but fun I used to stay up late at night to watch it. I wish they would release it on DVD.
I agree!! So cheesy but fun memories.
I believe its free to watch on tubi
@@joshfacio9379Yeah I've been binge watching it.
I saw this movie when I was 7 years old back in 1984. I guess parents just let their kids watch anything back in the day. 🤣
After I saw this I had a couple of actual nightmares about Freddy. I thought he was really coming to get me! 😆
He is. Tonight. Don't go to sleep. I repeat. Do not go to sleep tonight.
@@T.F.B.Enterprises
1...2... Freddy's coming for you
3...4... Better lock your door
5...6... Grab your crucifix
7...8... Gonna stay up late
9...10... Never sleep...again
Saaaaame. For about a year after seeing it I was afraid to go to sleep.
Johnny Depp is actually twenty one years old in this movie. His cute boy looks got him a lot of younger parts. This was his very first movie.
When I was a kid, this film gave me nightmares for two straight weeks and my mum went mad I watched this on VHS around a friends house. 😂😂😂
And he’s 60 years old now!
Can't wait!!! This was huge I mean huge when it first came out and I was in high school, we even had a vice principal whose last name was Kruger LOL you guys are going to love this, and I cannot wait to get my Asia and BJ fix, been a super rough day in my world and I really need this, see you guys tonight, can't wait!💕🤘👻✨
It seems the production team chose that name because it sounds similar to “cruel”.
My great aunt lived on Elm St. Freaked me out lol
@ 24:33 is the best reaction when BJ said “if you don’t get up out of here”🤣🤣🤣
You two are hilarious 🤣🤣🤣 She's walking with confidence and everything. I'm not walking home, call my momma. 🤣
Literally my favorite franchise! So glad y'all decided to do this one!!!!
Likewise. Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite movie of all time.
Really? Why? The franchise sucks horribly. They ruined the series with silly nonsense and caricatures. The first movie is great, though. The franchise? Yea, ruined by greed and shyty writing.
@@unclebounce1495 3, 4 and New Nightmare are a lot of fun
I absolutely love Nightmares on Elm street. They just get better and better lol part 3 and 4 are my favorites! I believe it’s one of Lawrence Fishburns starting roles as well as patricia arquette in part 3
Asia, in the beginning, when you mentioned a movie with "red eyes looking in through the window" - that might be from The Amityville Horror. It's a paranormal/haunted house movie that came out 3 years before Poltergeist.
11:56 I laughed here because both of you and I had the same reaction to "Is somebody there?" - 3 words that translate to "I'm about to die".
Snap, I immediately thought the exact same thing! I’m certain that what Asia is describing is from The Amityville Horror.
22:28 Yes, she was asleep. This part is her dream.
Its funny how parents let us watch these films when we were kids. I think I saw this at 11. I would never let my own child under 15 to watch this!
The movie she is talking about is Amityville horror
Another Wes Craven masterpiece ❤️ His Legacy will live forever
33:12 The Poltergeist and Nightmare on Elm street crossover is looking great
This another movie that gave me nightmares as a kid. I hope you guys get around to watching LEGION a marvel based show that Noah Hawley made, it’s definitely my favorite and I think Asia will have a few blanket moments
My parents thought it was a good idea to allow me to watch this at age 6 or 7. 😒 Kruger was the main monster in my nightmares. I had nightmares of him for years. It's nightmare fuel for sure. 😣
Great reaction by the way!
I'm just a minute into this movie and Asia says "I'm gonna need him to go sit down somewhere". 🤣😂🤣 Asia, your comments in all these movies CRACK ME UP so much!!!
And BJ, your face during the scarey scenes is hysterical!
THIS is the dude that waved to me on the beach in CA!! 😳😂
Asia's reaction face at the end of the movie was priceless. She had that WTF just happened look going on for a sec.
The movie with red eyes was Amityville horror. The original.
I remember after seeing this in the theater, me and my friends trying to keep each other awake that night, must have drank a pot of coffee lol. This was a great reaction y'all are too funny.
I remember seeing Wes Craven‘s new nightmare , a newer version in the 90s and it was really really really good! Would love to see you guys doing Wes Craven’s new nightmare
Cool, loving you guys doing the horror films for October. Would love to see some more modern ones thrown in also not just the classics. Always enjoy your content and going to get some merch soon 🤗
The 80s wasn’t even that long ago but the attitude of the characters and acting was wild. “Stop that kind of dreaming “ umm ok 😂 then like 10 years later there was scream and u could swear there was 50 years between them
I must admit this reaction video was really entertaining their reactions were great! very genuine this one deserves a million views! Please consider reacting to the Original Pet Sematary from 1989 and the Original Stephen Kings IT movie and the original Hellraiser movie Part 1 from 1990!
