    John Doe's sin was Envy. He envied Mills' normal life. Then Mills became Wrath when he killed John Doe, completing the 7 Deadly Sins in the movie.
    ** Btw, during the John Doe chase scene where Mills falls, Brad Pitt actually did break his arm, so they wrote it into the story. However, he still had scenes to film from before the chase, so they had to try and hide the cast. The scene where Tracy invites Somerset to dinner, you can see Pitt wearing his watch over the cast to try and hide it.

    Most underrated dialogue in this entire movie
    "What have you got?"
    "...dead dog."
    "I didn't do that."
    But Asia's expression while that final dialogue was playing out on the field during the box scene, that's what we were all waiting for!

    Hands down the best written crime screenplay I’ve ever seen. What an ending! Could you ever expect the killer and mills were the final two? Also the best opening title sequence ever. Really set the tone. You know right away it’s gonna be creepy. And the lighting! Sometimes it was frustrating how dark it was but that’s how life is, right?

    • @loadedorygun
      @loadedorygun 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AtownOriginal interesting take. Just because mills’ wife was innocent doesn’t ruin the concept; she’s collateral damage. The final two are the killer (envy) and mills (wrath). He doesn’t have to have conceived of the end in order to begin his plan; he may have had other ideas for envy and wrath-but found both solved at once. It was the scene where he got found out and saw Mills in action, gave him the idea for the finish.

  • @smichelle65
    @smichelle65 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    BJ was right that John Doe's sin was envy, but did you guys catch that Det. Mills' sin was wrath? Like Somerset said, if Mills killed John Doe in anger, John would "win". Of course, Mills wasn't physically killed by John at the end, but he may as well have been. One of the most devastating movie endings of all time.

    47:46 John Doe was playing chess because now how Mills’ chooses to live life is his final act. If Mills kills himself John Doe has won and, if he lives, he’ll forever be reminded of the 7 Deadly Sins. Mills living and forever remembering him proves that Doe was right, which would drive anyone crazy. The most obvious move would then to commit suicide, but that’d just be letting Doe win. The best move for Mills, would’ve been for him to let Doe live, even though it’s completely understandable why he didn’t.
