I was visiting New York/America for the first time in ten years last month - and I went to the Ghostbusters HQ, which is a real working 'ladder' (fire station). Just inside the front door, beside where the crew sits by the fire engine, waiting for a call out, is a *ton* of Ghostbusters merchandise - endless badges, car registration plates, etc. They even have the large Lego firehouse model of the firehouse! Outside, a couple of modified Ghostbusters logos are painted on the footpath/pavement. So, yes, very much keeping the legacy going, there...

I was ten years old in 1984 and I can't express how HUGE this movie was. I even dressed up as the "no ghost" sign for Halloween. Make sure to check out the music video for the song Ghostbusters.
@Vern Sherris It was an old computer made mostly for programming. For gaming Commodore 64 had a better graphic for games at that times. You can find many videos on TH-cam. Nothing to do with what we got now! 😁
The thing he has in her apartment is a "sniffer" device that detects traces of stuff in the air. Like how Ray said in the library "Listen! Do you smell something?" Some spirits are said to leave traces of odors (ozone smell, or something else specific).
Asia, they were the gate keeper and key master simply because of the apartments that they occupied. Once they got together and had sex, it opened the gate and released Gozer into the world. And Peter used science as a way to con people and not do any work. He would have been happy to stay at the college and use Science to hit on college girls. When the busting came along, he used it to make money, period. They charged a lot of money to catch ghost. As Peter said, "No ghost is too big, and no FEE is too big." That there was real ghost was just a way to over charge people.
This was a ton of fun, I forgot how funny Bill Murray is in this. It was actually written by Dan Aykroyd (Ray) and Harold Ramis (Egon). They made a kids cartoon and toy line out of it (yes I had some of the toys and went as a ghostbuster for Halloween one year, lol) as well as a part 2, and just last year they released a part 3 with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but part 1 was always the best.
We absolutely have to check out the sequels to this!! This was actually more funny than it was scary!! It’s really fun to see how much these movies influenced us at the time (1984-present) and even as old as this movie is, every kid I know to this day knows who or what Ghostbusters were! Thanks so much for watching with us!! ❤️❤️
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ , I actually think Afterlife was a VERY good movie. Somehow I missed Ghostbusters 2, but just ordered it to complete the set since it was only $5.99. There was another 2016 movie "Ghostbusters: Answer The Call", that starred Melissa McCarthy, this one should be avoided at all costs.
@@musicluvr70 we just watched the recent Ghostbusters and I was afraid it would suck, but it was actually VERY good!!! It even made me cry. I was so glad they were able to create something that was actually good. My kids love Ghostbusters, we watch it ALL the time !! Ghostbusters 2 was good also, but nothing beats the original 🚫👻🚫
@@michele36618, I may have wiped a tear or two watching it also, but I always use the excuse I'm old. LOL Fortunately (or unfortunately) there is never anyone around to see them.
Asia and BJ, you commented about how Ghostbusters came out in 1984. To give it some historical context, this came out on the heels of two major film franchises that very summer: Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. And it was right before some other great movies that same summer like The Karate Kid, Dune, The Last Starfighter, and The Terminator. So the fact that it went against these great movies and wound up be a blockbuster that summer of ‘84 is a tremendous feat.
The actor who plays the EPA inspector who lets the ghosts loose is also in the movie "Die Hard," which should be on your list, if you haven't seen it. IMO, the best movie with Bill Murray in it is "Groundhog Day," but he's in a lot of films. Sigourney Weaver is best known, of course, for playing the lead in "Alien" and "Aliens." Dan Aykroyd is probably best known for his roles in "The Blues Brothers" and "Trading Places."
This is my first time watching a Ghostbuster reaction, and it's gotta be one of my favourite movie reactions ever! You guys are great, thanks for the laughs!! The ghost of the kitchen 😂 80s movies were so good
I love all the characters in this movie, this is one of my favorite movies for a long time. Bill Murray really kills it with his casual way of not taking anything seriously. Rick Moranis was also in Spaceballs - which is another hilarious movie spoof on Star Wars.
My favorite part of this movie is that Winston is immediately treated like an equal and no one ever mentions he is black. It's beautiful equality. The only sideways reference to it is when he tells the mayor "I've seen shit that would turn you white." He is the perfect "everyman" in the company of these weirdo scientists.
I love 1980s movies. That decade is goldmine for classic films. Almost every modern movie, genre, actor/actress, in the business today owes their success to 80s movies.
Dana is the "gatekeeper" because the secret route to the temple is in her kitchen hidden behind the fridge. The "keymaster" apartment is the last one before hers. There's also not so subtle sexual inuendo in their titles.... A "locked gate(or *ahem* "hole") and the *cough* phallic "key" to opening it. Also, Director Ivan Reitman ran into William Atherton(EPA guy) a few years later thinking he'd happily welcome the success of the movie, But Atherton said the role made his life absolutely miserable. When he was recognized in public, any and everyone would talk shit to him.... oh, And I do mean EVERYONE. He quit going to bars because someone would inevitably taunt and/or try to assault him. Even when stuck in traffic, kids that recognized him would throw stuff out school bus windows, and yell "hey! dickless!"
So glad you two watched. This movie is classic..and had the best comedians of our time 80s in it. This movie was just an awesome ride of fun. The whole cast from Annie Potts to Ernie Hudson delivered their lines that you couldn't help but love this movie.
I watched this movie for 3 decades now. It was brought to my attention recently that the guy who locked himself out was the key master. It reaffirms my belief that this movie was very well written.
Ghostbusters 2 was filmed in 1989. This time dana has a son named Oscar, and the villan vigo wants to possess his body. This original cast is back for the 2nd movie
I saw this in the theaters in '84, I was 5 years old, I loved it. My cousin, same age, climbed under the seat, he was so scared of the gargoyle dogs. So many great movies from the 80's. I found you two the other day and have really enjoyed your reactions to the vids I've watched so far.
Asia & BJ Headquarters for Ghostbusters is actual fire station in NYC. When son, Jason Reitman of original director and producer, Ivan Reitman decided to create Ghostbuster: Afterlife, during press junket, actors held an interview at the station.
This is a movie that should be watched many times for the all surrounding comedy. Foreground and background, verbal and non verbal. This is my all time favorite, number one movie of all time. It's got romance, comedy, sci fi and action- everything. I watch it at least once a year. I'm a bit bias because I'm from this city, but it's an undeniable classic. Nothing beats the original, but part 2 and afterlife(part3) are a must watch!
Awesome reaction!!! I love how clever and subtle the adult elements are in this, when I was 4 in 84' all the rude stuff didn't register at all, but as I got older all the stuff like Peter being hit on by Zuul(legit thought She just wanted to eat Him😅), the Ghost giving Ray an astral bl*wj*b in His dreams, and the way the Boys refer to their Neutrona Wands like extensions of their own junk in the final battle, among a other euphemisms, has truly been a trip over the years. All hidden behind great editing and dialog delivery. Perfectly executed Family Film that isn't afraid to cater to everyone. They don't make them this well-written anymore, alas...💖💖💖
I was born 1986, two years after that film. When I was small, I always wanted to see that film, because my older brothers had toys and merchandise from it. Also here in Europe it is pretty big. At least one or two reruns of the films on German telly, the soundtrack famous... everything... I still remember my first girlfriend´s graduation ball, where the soundtrack was played and after every "Who you gonna call?" "GHOSTBUSTERS!!!!"
Got some recs for ya: - Groundhog Day (Bill Murray again!) - The Jerk (Steve Martin; Brilliant funny guy. Someone else suggested Little Shop of Horrors and he's great in that too.) -Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Steve Martin and John Candy, another iconic funny guy. He's the star of Uncle Buck, which someone else already recommended too)
Never forget that Dan Ackroyd is a Blues Brother and this soundtrack slaps with R&B tracks because he insisted on it. He even got Bobby Brown to do the theme for the sequel!
You guys did an amazing job reacting! It’s like you’ve been doing it a long time. You didn’t talk too much, just the right amount, you did a great job editing and it was fun to watch with you. Such a classic movie!
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ Totally agree with Carolyn!! New subscriber here! If you haven't seen Boondock Saints yet, it is my all time favorite St. Paddy's Day film (I know I'm not alone). It does have a sequel. There's action, comedy, and Norman Reedus.
A bad business decision was to bring along Ray when they were looking to buy the empty building. That's why most parents looking at homes leave their kids behind at their home. Yup, I just called Dr. Ray Stance a kid.😂
Near the end, after the defeat of Stay Puft, Asia asks why Venkman isn't as covered in marshmallow goo. The reason is that earlier in the movie, Venkman got "Slimed" by the first ghost they caught. Actor Bill Murray found the experience disgusting and had the director promise that he would not have to suffer like that at the end.
Funny story. There were copyright issues iver the title, and Columbia was going to have to dish out money and were balking at the price. So, they filmed the ground level entrance to the apartment early. The producer got the studio execs on a pay phone as the crowd is cheering and chanting Ghostbusters. So they could get a taste of what would be on film. Needless to say, they forked over the cash.
This was a really chill reaction. I saw folks who wondered why there were ghosts in the movie or did not understand what a comedy is. And so many offended about Venkman's antics lmao.
Yep, the part that shot back and melted the marshmallow man was just the muzzle flash. The part that Gozer’s dimension suffered was several orders of magnitude more destructive.
Hey guys, I stumbled upon you a channel today. Just want to say I seen Ghostbusters 100 times, I'm 42 years old but grew up with this movie. Watching it with you guys was like experiencing it for the first time all over again and it was a lot of fun. You guys are great team and looking forward to exploring more of your channel. FUN FACTOID: At one point in the movie, "American Top 40" DJ Casey Kasem was doing a radio show, where he was talking about the Ghostbusters. At Louis' party, Louis was dancing with a lady in a pink outfit. That lady is Casey Kasem's real-life wife Jean Thompson-Kasem.
"Dogs and Cats Living Together!!! Total Chaos!!!" - Peter. Ghostbusters 2 is good too IMO!!! Lewis is in that one too.Bobby Brown did the song On Our Own for the soundtrack. A real Bopper.
Great reaction to one of my favorite movies. I was nine years old when this came out in the summer of 1984 and saw it in a packed theater. It was a blast. I am still shocked you guys didn't know who Bill Murray was. This movie made him a household name and a big star. LOL.

Good job BJ & Asia. Enjoyed watching with you all. Hey Bill Murray had a funny movie with actor Richard Dreyfuss called "What About Bob" and another of his was "Tootsie" a 1982 movie hit starring Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange and Bill Murray. Sigourney you know she has a lot of movies, starting with "Alien". Oh my I have a ton of movies I'd love to see your reactions to.
If you want to go back to the 80's and 90's work of Sigourney Weaver, consider "The Year of Living Dangerously" (1982) where she stars with Linda Hunt, Mel Gibson, and Michael Murphy, and "The Ice Storm" (1997) with Kevin Kline and Joan Allen.
yes. thanks for dropping this this morning 🌄. I'm fixing to do some chores around the house and this is perfect to listen to! I was 11 when this came out but didn't see it till it came out for rent on VHS. I did have a cute pair of Ghostbusters jammies I bought in the mal at Rave...... Oh the good old days.
I grew up in New York City, my father worked in a building on the upper west side. I saw this movie in theaters when I was really really little, like kindergarten little. I knew that building was a real building. You can't imagine my disappointment when I found out I couldn't actually be a Ghostbuster when I grew up. I love this this movie, it reminds me of the New York I grew up in.
Asia, you commented on something from the movie by saying "they said/did this in 1984??" GIRL, nothing was off limits back in the day and nobody was excluded which is why EVERYTHING was so much more hilarious. Most of the stuff we grew up watching would NEVER have been made today because everyone is such wusses.
So true..ive watched younger people react to this movie and its amazing how they take some of the jokes/characters so seriously and their reactions are borderline offended if not straight up. Makes me cringe...these are fictional characters with dialogue written by comedians with a certain situational context, in this case a group of goofy scientists who try to trap weird ghosts and all with particular personalities to fit the comedic situation. Take it for exactly what it is young people...
@@sorensmith9873 Yeah, honestly the meanest (and least ethical esp when considering the loss to science)thing done in this film is what Venkman does to that poor male ESP volunteer and all because he wants to get into a coeds pants. I mean that guy was the REAL DEAL and Venkman could care less.
Yes, all the shows from the 70s and 80s humor was great. Today's shows don't last long are are forgotten but the classics are classics because they were awesome and manage to last decades.

The fire station is a real FDNY station in Tribeca, several blocks North of the World Trade Centre. The Tavern On the Green restaurant is in Central Park not far from Dana's apartment building. The restaurant scene makes fun of New Yorkers being indifferent while weird stuff occurs around them.
So happy to hang out and watch movies again with you this week! Ghostbusters is so fun, and an absolute classic. Still crossing my fingers for Lord of the Rings!
Probably been said before, but watch Ghistbusters II, then watch Afterlife. It is truly a great movie and a fitting closing to the series. This movie was fun and comical, but Afterlife gets you in the feels!
Such a great reaction! You two are so cute in your enjoyment, loved seeing this! There's just something satisfying watching someone see one of your favorite movies for the first time. Definitely check out "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" for more of Lewis (Rick Moranis; a comedy genius in his own right) it's a great funny comedy. It's nice this movie holds up PRETTY well--though Venkman is honestly pretty gross with women by today's standards, and Winston (Ernie Hudson) was CRIMINALLY underused and was apparently treated badly on the movie, which makes me really sad.
Considering the ... suggestive adult situations , the smoking , the deadpan jokes -- and that all of it was in a kids & young adults movie that adults could enjoy as well --- it's just a signature 1980's movie , that didn't preach, and didn't think that it's audience was dumb .
Open endings like the end of this movie happened all the time in the 80's. If they proved popular enough, in time, movies, or more often, comic books would swoop in to do that continued "what if" story and keep things going for a while. There are two direct movie sequels, Ghostbusters II, and Ghostbusters Afterlife that just came out within the last year. There is also a Ghostbusters Cartoon series that took cannon ideas from both two movies and kept things going for at least 4 years of shows. Extreme Ghostbusters that fallowed that show latter on for another 2-3 years, Ghostbusters The Video Game that played out as a Ghostbusters III that came out in 09, and continued things 10 years after II. And there is talk of Afterlife continuing on with 2 more movies as they finish working out the scripts, and a planned cartoon series to fill in the down time between movies.
My favorite Elmer Bernstein score. Love that Reginald VelJohnson is the police officer in the jail. He portrays a police officer in 3 major cities, New York("Ghostbusters"), Los Angeles("Die Hard") and Chicago("Family Matters").
I was 11 when this came out in the theater, still love this movie. The special effects are ok now, but back then it was amazing. Also might check out Alien and Aliens both with Sigourney Weaver (Dana) she is a bad a%% , they did make Ghostbusters 2.
I think thy still hold up. Not a bit of CGI, just talent and practical expert craftsmanship. Helps to see it on the early DVD pressing. This Blu-ray upscale with the more greenish "color corrected"🙄 tint kind spoils some of the Animatronic and Claymation elements, and makes the superimposed passes not look as translucent is they should. The Library Ghost is FAR more see-thru' on the DVD. The lines are too defined and janky on this version. 💖
Rick Moranis (the quirky neighbor) stole the show, in my opinion. I want a chocolate bar & graham crackers. There is a sequel. The effects were pretty good for a 1984 comedy. Great reaction! I still laugh at this though I've seen it several times! Thanks! I would love for you to react to THE BIG CHILL.
I loved your reaction guys, and if you liked this you oughta check Strange Brew (with Rick Moranis who was Louis) or Stripes (that had Bill Murray and Harold Ramis). Super funny movies that have been overlooked.
A detail many miss is when Dana is first being interviewed with the colander sensor on her head, the monitor shows a "heat profile" view of her head. Later, when possessed Louis had been dropped off at Ghostbusters HQ and is wearing the colander sensor, the monitor shows the "heat profile" of Vinz Clortho (the Terror Dog "Keymaster" minion of Gozer).
You two are great at reacting to movies too. Just like someone else said, this is such a great natural reaction. Can't wait to see what else you're going to be watching.
My personal theory is that ectoplasm is marshmallow repellent. Early in the movie, Venkman gets slimed. He's the only one who does. Skip to the end of the movie, and after the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man explodes, the other three ghostbusters are covered pretty much head to toe with marshmallow, but Venkman, who was right there with them, barely has any on him. Obviously, his previous coating of ectoplasm (slime) gave him a protective layer against marshmallow. :)
This is my all time favorite movie. Ernie Hudson was my favorite. See him now, he still looks like a young guy and he’s actually older than the other the 3 guys.
Such a classic. In 1991 Rick Moranis retired from acting to concentrate on being a dad after sadly his wife died. This movie provided the break-out role for the great Ernie Hudson who had mostly been in small tv roles before this. Does anyone think the toasted Stay Puft Marshmallow man tasted good after he exploded?
Bill Murray and for the life of me I'm blanking out on the actor's name who played Venkman but they're together in stripes John Candy god the guy who played Dan on Night Court is in it
Great reaction! There is a sequel and it’s actually my fav it lined more up with my age range and had lil better effects better villain and a Bobby Brown soundtrack and cameo

Rick Moranis also wrote most of his part
"That would be bad"..."All right, important safety tip." Best. Lines. Ever. My nerdy friends and I still say that to each other.
I have to disagree with you on one point. Best movie with Bill Murray is Zombieland. Of course ones opinion is relative
@@2mon249 Zombieland is good but he's barely in it lol
Scrooged is also a great Bill Murray movie.
@Vern Sherris can't forget when he played Jim Lloyd in the miniseries Centennial (back in 1978)
what? No love for Stripes?@@2mon249
This is my first time watching a Ghostbuster reaction, and it's gotta be one of my favourite movie reactions ever! You guys are great, thanks for the laughs!! The ghost of the kitchen 😂 80s movies were so good
🤣🤣 smh.. Spirit of the Kitchen!! Thank you so much Cali for watching the first one with us!!
Yeah, it was the ‘80’s. That’s how I remember it used to be.
I love 1980s movies. That decade is goldmine for classic films. Almost every modern movie, genre, actor/actress, in the business today owes their success to 80s movies.
I always loved "Yes, they'll be totally discreet." Then they walk in the hotel "ANYBODY SEEN SOME GHOSTS?!"
Even when stuck in traffic, kids that recognized him would throw stuff out school bus windows, and yell "hey! dickless!"
😂
Kids calling him d¡ckIess, huh? He could've proved them wrong by dropping his pants... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was 9 years old when it came out. It was one of the first VHS tapes I got, and I was so excited I watched the movie untill the tape wore out 🤣
So glad you two watched.
Asia & BJ
Headquarters for Ghostbusters is actual fire station in NYC.
They don't make them this well-written anymore, alas...💖💖💖
very true!
The neighbour “Louis” was my favourite character…and of course “Slimer” 👻🤪
I was born 1986, two years after that film. When I was small, I always wanted to see that film, because my older brothers had toys and merchandise from it. Also here in Europe it is pretty big. At least one or two reruns of the films on German telly, the soundtrack famous... everything... I still remember my first girlfriend´s graduation ball, where the soundtrack was played and after every "Who you gonna call?" "GHOSTBUSTERS!!!!"
One of the few movies out there with a really good sequel. Good reaction. Thanks for a fun Friday.
Got some recs for ya:
- Groundhog Day (Bill Murray again!)
- The Jerk (Steve Martin; Brilliant funny guy. Someone else suggested Little Shop of Horrors and he's great in that too.)
-Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Steve Martin and John Candy, another iconic funny guy. He's the star of Uncle Buck, which someone else already recommended too)
Yes there is a Ghostbusters 2. I loved this movie growing up...it was one of the first movies i ever saw in a theatre 😁
Never forget that Dan Ackroyd is a Blues Brother and this soundtrack slaps with R&B tracks because he insisted on it. He even got Bobby Brown to do the theme for the sequel!
There was an animated tv show that did a good job of continuing the story. The green ghost became a member/pet for the Ghostbusters.
No matter how dated the effects look these days they are still staggeringly better than some of the trashy ones that were in the remake.
You guys did an amazing job reacting! It’s like you’ve been doing it a long time. You didn’t talk too much, just the right amount, you did a great job editing and it was fun to watch with you. Such a classic movie!
Hey Carolyn we appreciate that ❤️❤️ Thanks for watching with us!
The part where Rick Moranis tells the horse to wait for the sign and his imminent release always kills me.
Who doesn't expect ghosts in a movie called Ghostbusters??? 🤔
Crossing the Streams essentially creates an anti-proton explosion like a thermonuclear blast. Luckily the portal absorbed the blast.
It was a lot of fun.
Great job. Asia you have a beautiful smile.
Easily one of the best reactions to this movie. Definitely check out the sequel. Love the content
Aye J Link ❤️❤️ Thanks for watching with us!
LOL.
It is soooo much fun watching y'all watch movies that I've seen, and you reacting just like I did. Especially Silence of the Lambs and Jaws! It makes me so happy. Y'all are such a great couple.😍
Slimer actually becomes part of the team in the (TV) cartoon :)
Yes there is a sequel and you should do it. And then watch the one that came out a few months ago. You guys will love them.
LOL really?
@@Muckylittleme yep!! It’s so nostalgic now most people love it. Always gonna be some haters of course.

The all female remake was awful compared to the original.
How is it they have to piggyback all this woke nonsense onto success of people who are no longer diverse enough, namely white men?
If it is such a good idea and has merit then make new movies and characters that push that agenda instead if hijacking what was great and universally loved by all to pander to a tiny minority of bed wetter's?
@@Muckylittleme I too hate remakes and reboots. But ghostbusters 2 is not a remake or reboot. Is it as good as the original? Nope but it still has its moments. And I just watched ghostbusters afterlife and I loved it. The female one was dumb so we agree on that. Seems you have some hatred for white people given that you just had to point out color so I don’t think their is anything left for us to discuss. I don’t judge a movie or a person on color or their beliefs cause that’s how I was raised. But sure sounds like you do. So sad
I had read once that the soundtrack to this movie also held a record as to the number of #1 hits on the billboard charts. 🙂Yeah! The recent Ghostbusters : Afterlife is a must see! 😲

TOOTSIE is one of the greats.
"Tootsie" is hilarious.
yes. thanks for dropping this this morning 🌄. I'm fixing to do some chores around the house and this is perfect to listen to! I was 11 when this came out but didn't see it till it came out for rent on VHS. I did have a cute pair of Ghostbusters jammies I bought in the mal at Rave...... Oh the good old days.
This is fantastic! You both are perfect for this and this movie is such a blast to watch with other people.
Hell yeah! I loved growing up in the 80's!!! I was too little to see this in the theaters, but went with my parents to see the sequel.
@@figrindantatooine Some shows last decades (2013-purportedly ongoing) & still suck (TTG on CN for example [as a shipper, BBXRAE is the only thing saving that dreck]).

Aww Donna ❤️❤️ We got that same feeling about the movie. And you being proud of us.. well we’re both happy and humbled, because we love you too!
That brought back memories. Great reaction!!
Thank you for letting us join you in this. :) I had fun. Bless and be well.
Thanks ❤️❤️ for watching with us Coyote!
This movie was like lightning in a bottle. I'm so glad I saw this in the theater as a kid. I've been a super fan ever since.
Your laughter is contagious! You all got to have some popcorn next time! Would like to see you react to Stand by me the movie. 😏
One of the most famous movies ever made. Grew up watching this and had the slimer toy. Love the ghostbusters
You two are great at reacting to movies too. Just like someone else said, this is such a great natural reaction. Can't wait to see what else you're going to be watching.
I haven't seen this since I was a kid. I literally didn't remember anything but the song.... it was hilarius 😂😂😂
We agree lone B ❤️❤️ Thanks for watching with us!
Another great reaction! Thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to your next movie reaction!

This is my all time favorite movie. Ernie Hudson was my favorite. See him now, he still looks like a young guy and he’s actually older than the other the 3 guys.
Awesome Job Editing You Guys, 2 thumbs ☝loved it.
