The problem isnt dust its that the fan blades rub on the plastic shroud that surronds the fan. Need to create a little more space between them and your good. Nice video on how to disassemble though
@@daveandrecustodio7046 not sure, but all I know is that after a while of rubbing... The whole fan hasn't started and its constantly overheating cause I couldn't clean mine in time I got it second hand
If you are going to do this or take apart any power supply. You need to be aware that electrical components may hold a charge making this a potentially dangerous job.
Hello guys, as a fellow who had the same issue but just cleaning doesn't fix it. I have a suggestion that worked for me, the problem isn't in the fan, it's the plastic that holds it it gets loose by the heat overtime. So what I did is I added a piece of paper to the plastic to stick it in place tightly, and now it's super quiet that I don't believe it. Hope it works for you.
Also, just make a hole through the rubber feet instead of trying to pry them off. Use something to clean out the excess rubber from the new hole and then the foot's casing will come out when unscrewing the T3.
Lmfao. So I came to this vid, saw him open the bottom with the hexagon screws and was like "fuck i dont have that tool". Then I read your comment, then I went over to my power supply brick (buzzing loud af all the time), blew the dust out, and smacked it hard like 4 times. Now it's quiet as shit and cant hear it anymore. Showed it who was boss. Thanks man.
When you had the fan fully disassembled you should be able to slide the fan off of its shaft and lubricate it. I did it with my 360 slims fan. The power supplies look pretty similar
Be carful doing this because I don't know if Microsoft has done a sneaky move or not but when I opened mine the basterds had glued some of the screws! I will just buy a new supply now ffs lol
Honestly I thought the same, but it's just because I broke the flat rubber part off revealing the round black piece underneath. I poked into it with a small flat head and popped it out, revealing the screw.
you can pop the fan off the bracket theres a pin on the back of the fan grease the pin reinstall fan into the metal circle and close the unit mines like new
+Andrei Callanan WD40 isn’t a grease. It will dry back out. You need actual grease that will keep friction to a minimum. I really don’t know what kind, I would just use any type of grease. It will be in a container not a spray bottle
Great vid, I just got the fan out and was able to pull the actual blade/fan(top part) from the motor. It’s only held in place by the magnets that spin it, so it will just pop off easily by lifting. Looks like they used graphite to lubricate the spinning metal on magnet parts. I simply washed it with soap then re lubricated it using gun lube. No more wobbly fan or loud rattle sound👌
Dude thanks a lot. My old one did this and I thought it was breaking so I got a new brick and it did it again so I actually searched up on it and your video helped me a lot
So xbox was making a horrible noise... Its an original 1, had it since the day it came out. I now own a xbox x so give it to my lil 1, found a TH-cam video on how to take it apart and clean the fan as it sounded like a police helicopter was above my house! To my surprise was actually not that dusty, managed to put it all back together, turned it on... Was a bit quiter but still noisy, had a good listen and realised it was the damn power pack! Found this video, followed your instructions... Now have to check if its still switched on!! 3 hours of my life I will never get back... You sir are a legend Edit: then found out you don't even do TH-cam anymore...
Yes had the same problem. I replaced it through gamstop 2 months ago and the same problem appeared. There were other issues with the original brick but never the noise. I swapped out the fan from my original brick to the replacement and all went well. Remember that gamestop will not use quality parts for their replacements. The fan they used was the problem. I replaced the fan, (just slice and dice) use electrical tape and reassemble. Easy peasy!!
some ppl might need a torx Plus bit, the torx plus screw has a little rod in the middle of the pattern that prevents a regular torx bit from entering the head of the screw completely!
Fixed mine by removing the blades from the fan assembly, it's a brushless motor so it is easily removed, and then applying some lubricant to the center shaft. Worked like a charm! Quiet now!
This was informative, but I recommend others to do a few things differently. Just puncture the rubber feet and use a T3 Torx (or a tiny flathead if you don't have Torx heads) to remove the screw which will push the feet's casings out as well. I used a J1 Phillips head for all four of the fan enclosure's screws (two sizes), although any small, flat-tipped Phillips head would work.
Unfortunately Microsoft no longer supports or will service the XB1 (1st Generation) so if you have power supply issues your choices are to try troubleshooting by unplugging all points of the power brick (from the outlet, brick cable, AND console) for at least 10m then plug everything back in. Or possibly find a store or pawn shop that still has another for replacement. Only other option i see is to upgrade your console

If this doesn't work for you, take apart the fan and pop it out of its socket. There will be a little metal connector on the bottom of the separated fan. Put some electrical grease on that little metal connector and put it back together.
I thought it was the Xbox itself making the sound, I've had it for over 6 years and I had overheating problems (it turned off one time due to overheating so I cleaned it) before I cleaned it a few weeks back. But I turned it off and it was still making the sound, so I unplugged it from the wall and it stopped, which means it could've been the brick but I'm not sure. I recently replaced my old Xbox power brick that I had for almost 6 years and it had never made that noise. Now I have a new brick that I got like 4 months ago and it's doing it?! A bit confused. I was already worried about taking a part my console and cleaning the fan, but now with the brick being added into it, this is really going to suck. With all this in mind, I'm thinking back to my Xbox randomly shutting off about a month ago due to what I thought was the console overheating. If the console itself overheats, wouldn't there be a message saying lack of air supply or something like That? Because all my console did was shut off without any message, and from reading other comments here, I'm starting to think my new Xbox power brick is the problem. Not for sure.

A new power brick ranges from $15 to $25, so not to bad.
Hey wazup question…. What’s the name of the tool you use to remove the screw?
My power brick made a pop noise now won’t turn on when I plug it in to any outlet will cleaning this help it or is it done for ?
So stupid that so many of these power bricks went out like this. I returned about 5 Xbox ones back in 2014 until I found one that didn’t have the noisy brick.
My box wasn't making loud noise, but it was humming and completely clogged with dust. Thanks for the video!
Is it bad I went in without a bracelet? Does it matter?
Patrick Ellis if it hums I immediately want you too unclog the fan and triple check that it spins freely, if you want to know why it hums and the fan is only dc it’s because it’s ripple currents.
Should have showed that it worked at the end but in all great video keep up the good work🙂
I had bought a new adapter about two weeks ago because my other one wouldn’t turn on and it’s making this noise I used all the money I had to buy it is there anyway I could possibly fix it that won’t be expensive
Bro that is not normal
