Thanks for your video. My power brick died a couple of weeks back and everything I'd seen about checking it suggested the caps had gone and would show bulging tops. But when I opened the brick, the caps looked fine. My son's power brick fired up the xbox so we knew the power brick was faulty. So I bought an aftermarket power brick which came with a very noisy fan. Not happy. I've just watched your video and you've enlightened me by saying that the caps might be dead even though the tops aren't bulging. That's something I wasn't aware of. Thanks. I've still got my original power brick so I'll open it up again and replace the caps. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.

My xbox is having similar problems, because it glows when its not plugged into the xbox but when I plug in the cable it all the sudden just turns off after 5 seconds of working, I've tried asking for help online but didn't get much. But I need to tell you how this happened, I was playing my games minding my business trying to finish my mission, but then I heard a popping noise out of no where, the thing shut right off immediately, I don't know if its a circuit or my xbox just finally gave out. mine stopped working last night. no light at all until i unplug all three ends. when i plug it back into the wall, the orange light comes on and stays on, when i plug it into the xbox, it flashes white then off. until i do all that again. i took it apart, all the resistors are not domed. i busted the fan by blowing out all the dust with i guess a bigger air compressor than i should have used, it spun freely, no issues there, lots of dust tho and then all the fan blade blew off like it exploded. so i tried it like that, open brick, plugged it back in, same thing. was hoping it was just all the dust. what else should i be looking for? if its got power then just off when plugged into the xbox. thanks
Thanks for the tutorial and all the information! I noticed you have a link to almost everything you used, BUT 2 items! I replaced all 4 of the small capacitors, still have orange light that turns off when connected to the console. Any ideas? What should I test with multimeter to find the issue? Also possible I didn't install the capacitors properly. Is there a way to test that?
Had my Xbox on a few days ago and I moved the power supply off my carpet slightly and then the light on it went completely off which shut the Xbox off. Now I can’t get the light on the power supply to work when I plug the Xbox in.
Hello there. I have a Xbox One console. That is clean inside. The front light on and off button. Would not turn on by touch. I have opened it up clean the fan and everything. It was working fine but now it's doing the same thing. Turning on and turning off. I will turn it back on by myself. As it hits my security code. It shuts right back down I can turn it back on using the controller but not the on and off switch on the dashboard. I don't know if it's the power cord doing this. Watching your video. I don't know if you are doing complete overhauls on Xbox One consoles in other words cleaned fixed and upgraded instead of a 500 gs to a 1000 GS. I don't know how much something like that would cost. But willing to ship out. Or should I just buy another one. Prefer to just upgrade and have it fixed running perfect. And you definitely look like you are the man for the job. Just curious on time frame also. Spent a lot of money on call of duty. Big gamer I think you get the idea LOL. Hit me up if you are interested. Just curious on time frame ship out by next week if can? Thank you Chase
If you pull the main board up... it seems like the pins soldered to the board, from the front switch panel will get corrosion on them. In several of the xbox one S... I have resoldered those. On the original xbox, the ribbon could be damaged.
I have two Xbox One Power Bricks that shut down themselves (the oldest shutdown over things as simple as watching Netflix) and I have wondered if because of overheating and dirt.
What about when it isn't the power supply? I bought a new brick and it still didn't turn on. So I borrowed my girlfriend's brick, her Xbox works perfectly, but even her brick won't turn my xbox on. Is there a way to fix this?
Why does nobody in these repair videos check the actual voltage that comes out from the brick first?? Wouldn't that be a logical first step? As far as I can see, it should have one 5v and one 12v signal coming out from the brick. Mine only has a 5v and the 12v is dead. I guess it could be possible that it should be like that? Maybe the 12v gets turned on by a relay switch if the brick can communicate with the console? I don't know, as nobody actually tells the voltages in these videos. So PLEASE, tell me if both the 5v and 12v is supposed to be active immediately when I plug the supply to the wall? Thanks!
5 V is always on. 12 V only after power button is "pressed" on. How to check: Find a way to create contact between the inner pins of the plug, the light will change from orange to white as if it is powered on. The cooler works with 12 V DC, check the voltage of those pins with a multimeter.
What does it mean when it has a solid red light, and when plugged into the Xbox, a white light flickers while the red light is still on? My Xbox does not want to turn on when the power brick is like this.
weird you only had two and then one on the end. I just did this with my OG xbox one and it had 3 2200uf 16v and then it had a 1500 16v one. I replaced the 3 bunch and I got a very weak flow of power so I tried to replace the 1500 with a 2200 16v and now I get nothing. everything seems good though so any suggestions on that or do you have a solution for an xbox one x that powers up for 5-10 seconds then shuts down ? Have a great day TIA!
So my Xbox one power block dose go on and stuff but here is the thing when I try to update my Xbox when it gets to step 3 it always goes off and I don’t know what to do can you help me out please
Thanks for a great video. I think this will solve my issue. I only have one question. Should I buy the 16V or the 16VDC? I live in Sweden so maybe there's a difference? Thanks again

Hi! I was wondering the trio of capacitors you replaced are 2200 microfarads and 16v. There is one right nearby at 1500 microfarads 16v. They all bulge. Can i also u a 2200 where the 1500 is? As i don’t have any 1500 Thanks!

I would contact your local used game shop, and ask if they have a repair person. I would be happy to look at your supply, but if you aren't local to the Pitt PA area, then shipping would make it more than just buying a new supply. Just found out thats not a great idea. I may just need to go buy a new power brick. Any suggestions on a potential fix?

Hey! I wanna ask you something, my psu has the solid orange light but when you plug the cable in xbox it starts blinking fastly, so where is the problem? Is there some way to fix it? Should i replace the psu? Is the problem in my Xbox?
The screw wasn't stripped. The pin in the middle was bent, and the safety driver couldn't go down into it. I just put a small pick in it, and it broke out.
I turned on my Xbox one it chugged along for a second, made some odd noise. Then powered down, no blinking orange light on the powerbrick, nothing, gone, and now it won't turn back on.. it's been like this for the last few days. I sent off for a new powerbrick on Amazon, should fix it?
NEED MAJOR HELP! Have you seen a power brick not cycling the fan before? What could that be? Is it the battery itself and how could you fix that problem? I already used a third party power brick not reading it and realized that I can't connect online at all. I still have Xbox live it didn't expire or anything but find it. This is on my Xbox one original brand power brick. Not Xbox series and not some third party. I noticed that the side where the battery is warm when it's not even plugged in compared to the third party power brick. The light is completely normal and functioning the way it should be but noticed that the fan isn't spinning at all and I already put grease for the fan.
I'm not sure what battery you are talking about. The fan itself can be dead. As far as not connecting online..... if it's actually connecting to your WiFi... then it could be a banned system. If it's not connecting to your WiFi... then I would make sure the WiFi unit, and antenna are connected properly in the Xbox.
@@PghGameFix I am assuming it banned my online use? Even though I never got reported or anything of that sort. Secondly maybe you are right thinking about it maybe it could be since I used lube it probably got all over the interior of the system or inside of it causing to be damaged and maybe not function properly but it's odd because it was working solid with the lube for a good solid year or so. But when I mean battery or a motor.. it's not hot at all from where the fan compartment is. It's hot from the opposite side of the fan and there's some sort of look like battery that is plastered with some sort of white paste of glue and if I am right I touched it a bit gently and it burned my finger slightly so my guess is.. just like when stuff die out like maybe like a nerf gun on it's last life. It doesn't function the way it's supposed to... Like it's all slow and then starts to slowly give it and not work so you have to exchange out the battery.. But really I am assuming that the third party power brick probably banned me from even connecting online. My wifi is good and even with connecting to my hotspot it still didn't allow it. So once I get my other power brick I'll see if it'll allow me to access to connect online. It told me that services are down.
My power brick is constantly orange and whenever I try turn the Xbox on it makes a sound but doesn't light up nor turns on. So I'm not sure if it's the Xbox or the power brick
Great vid!! But what if my power supply stays in orange when plugged to the Xbox and when I try to turn it on it just makes a very small "click" sound but it wont turn on... is that my powwer supply too? or is it my console?
There has to be a way to bulletproof these things, or at least hostile duty-ize one. (A bigger auxiliary fan or something maybe ?) These X box one bricks seem to be exceptionally light duty.
So i replaced the caps on a power brick am working on, they were definitely blown(bulging). At first no orange light before replacing, then got orange light after replacing. As soon as I plug into console though the power brick turns off. Any idea where and how I should be looking next? I Don't see any obvious damage and I've used these caps to repair a few bricks before. Have only recently got into console repairs, so still learning as much as I can.
Still learning the chips and how to find short with multimeter. So you atleast gave me an idea where to look and replaced one that had continuety that shouldnt :)
@@markbarnard1970 They would be the fets on the main board of the xbox. Use your meter and look for shorts to ground across the filter caps on the power rail.

I've had this xbox for about 8 years, tell me how I can fix this
Ok, but I just got a new one and it still won't boot. Literally just got a week ago and I've been thru 2 supplies and still won't work
mine stopped working last night. no light at all until i unplug all three ends. when i plug it back into the wall, the orange light comes on and stays on, when i plug it into the xbox, it flashes white then off. until i do all that again. i took it apart, all the resistors are not domed. i busted the fan by blowing out all the dust with i guess a bigger air compressor than i should have used, it spun freely, no issues there, lots of dust tho and then all the fan blade blew off like it exploded.
so i tried it like that, open brick, plugged it back in, same thing. was hoping it was just all the dust. what else should i be looking for? if its got power then just off when plugged into the xbox.
thanks
Thanks for the tutorial and all the information!
I noticed you have a link to almost everything you used, BUT 2 items!
The capacitors you replaced (1200 & 2200uf 16v) nor the ESR meter, could you please link where I can get those?
I'm apparently the 'mr-fix-it' here, and sometimes I need a YT video or two to help me out to fix this or that, and both of those items I think will REALLY help me out ;)
Thanks for the info and please keep making great videos!
I get my caps from Mouser most of the time. They ship quick, and prices are good. THe ESR meter cane b bought from amazon: amzn.to/3H4nmxo
Mine is white originally and then when plugged into xbox goes orange. Is it the power supply??
I'm watching this because my x box one literally just now started having issues after about 6 yrs, and I have the first Xbox model Microsoft made and its outlasted my 360 and now my Xbox one
Garmin GTX 330ery often... the original power brick gives up. If you have the capability to fix the brick, it's not hard, but a replacement is only around $25.
What if the light is red. And when i plug it into my xbox the ligth goes out is that a bad power suply or something else
I replaced all 4 of the small capacitors, still have orange light that turns off when connected to the console. Any ideas? What should I test with multimeter to find the issue? Also possible I didn't install the capacitors properly. Is there a way to test that?
You could have one of the regulators that are starting to fail.
Dang dude that sucks!
@@PghGameFix is there a way to test that?
I just bought a new power brick and i have the same issue of it being orange whats wrong i just want to know...
Hi Tony... Thank you for sharing this great fix... it worked for me!!!
Great... I'm glad it helped.
@@PghGameFix can you fix it mine Xbox One power the box don't work please fix
@@ladrestrickland336 If you are local, I can look at it. But the cost to ship it will make it more than just buying a replacement power brick.
Great video. I had the same problem and it was caused by three 2200uF/16V capacitors near the DC out. I replaced those and the console worked fine.
Thanks for watching.
I have a problem my Xbox itself with smoking at first and then the balloon up and it popped what does that mean
Hi, How I can activate 12V without connection to the console? I wont use this power brick to the other needs. Thank You.
Had my Xbox on a few days ago and I moved the power supply off my carpet slightly and then the light on it went completely off which shut the Xbox off. Now I can’t get the light on the power supply to work when I plug the Xbox in.
Sounds like the supply has burnt up. You can try the fix in the video, or replace the brick.
Mine is staying red but my remote charger will still charge when I have it plugged into my Xbox
Mine keeps repeatedly beeping then turns off after a minute and it doesn’t display anything through the HDMI cord either
What screwdriver are you using
What if you don't wanna take apart the power brick
Easy... buy a new one.
@@PghGameFix is there a different way?
@@anikole9949 I'm not sure what you are asking. You have to take things apart to fix them. But maybe I'm missing the point you are trying to convey.
@@PghGameFix like is there a way we can fix it without having to pay for a new one
@@anikole9949 you have to take it apart to fix it like he previously mentioned. Or buy a new one like I have to do for the second time.
What if my power supply is brand new and the Xbox still won't turn on
Then there can be a power rail issue inside the xbox.
How did you get the screw out?
I was able to break out the center, and get a torx driver in.
taking mine in tomorrow..im pretty sure its the capacitors. find out when he calls me if its the problem or not..
can you tell us for how long we gotta leave it unplug before taking it apart? thanks for the video
At least 4 or 5 minutes. But, you can drain the caps once you are in it.
What does it mean when it has a solid red light, and when plugged into the Xbox, a white light flickers while the red light is still on? My Xbox does not want to turn on when the power brick is like this.
I think there is something wrong with the power brick. It’s like it only wants to work when it wants to.
weird you only had two and then one on the end.
I bought a new power brick and the same thing happens. It does. It come on so it sounds like inside the actual Xbox right ?
Yes... unfortunately it's something with the xbox itself.
Why would my orange light stay on even when there is no power in it
So my Xbox one power block dose go on and stuff but here is the thing when I try to update my Xbox when it gets to step 3 it always goes off and I don’t know what to do can you help me out please
I've done went through two power bricks with the same xbox one that i've had six or seven years
Thanks for a great video. I think this will solve my issue. I only have one question. Should I buy the 16V or the 16VDC? I live in Sweden so maybe there's a difference? Thanks again
All electrolytic caps are DC voltages for the rating. They store DC, but pass AC.
@@PghGameFix thank you!! ::)
This fixed my problem. Thank you!!
Glad it helpped.
Can you do a video how to play without a power block cord that you connect to it
I just heard a popping sound everything’s gone off , power brick wasn’t covered but it smells burnt
The big box that plugs into the Xbox. The one with the two little things that go in. It won’t actually go in. What’s wrong?
I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. But if the plug isn't going in... then make sure nothing is stuck in it... or bent.
I bought a new power supply off Amazon. When I plugged it in the wall, a solid red light comes on. What does that mean? This is before I even plug the power supply into the Xbox. Need help please
An aftermarket supply will have different color lights. Plug it into your xbox, and see if it turns on.
Hi! I was wondering the trio of capacitors you replaced are 2200 microfarads and 16v. There is one right nearby at 1500 microfarads 16v. They all bulge. Can i also u a 2200 where the 1500 is? As i don’t have any 1500
Thanks!
Yes. a slightly larger cap will be fine.
@@PghGameFix thanks! As i rewatched your video but not sure if you did change also the 1500 uf with the ones you had those 2200 uf but staying within the same voltage
And i noticed your power brick had two and one capacitor while mine has 3 (2200 uf) and and the one (1500uf)
So can I use a power brick that had been used before?
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. But, if you you mean to use an old dead brick, and breing it back to life... then yes.
i suspect i have a short on my circuit board where the power plug-ins to the xbox because it’s intermittent and it does the same thing after i bought a new power supply
Mine you csn hear the sound but you can’t turn it on
Where would I go to get this problem fixed? My xbox just makes a small chirp and the light on the xbox doesnt turn on.
I would contact your local used game shop, and ask if they have a repair person. I would be happy to look at your supply, but if you aren't local to the Pitt PA area, then shipping would make it more than just buying a new supply. But, if you need one, here's the one I've been recommending on amazon. amzn.to/3kUiYZC
THANK YOU!!!!!!! MONEY SAVED!!! MUCH APPRECIATED 😃
Glad my video helped.
I just bought a new power brick and i have the same issue of it being orange whats wrong i just want to know...
There could be internal damage to the Xbox.
Hey, my house got hit with a power outage yesterday and it came back on about an hour or 2 ago, my xbox was working fine before, but now it won't turn on, however the light is orange and doesn't flicker, it won't turn on, however it was plugged into a power strip. Just found out thats not a great idea. I may just need to go buy a new power brick. Any suggestions on a potential fix?
I plug mine in to a strip... it's really not an issue. I would unplug all of it, and give it a few minutes.... then try again. If you need a brick, here's a link. amzn.to/3fA6S4u
@@PghGameFix thanks for the link as I'm not skilled enough for the fix but now I'm at least pretty sure it's the power pack and not my Xbox
How do you get out the stuck screws

My power brick is orange but Xbox one still turns on. I also bought a new brick but the same issue happens and Xbox restarts with Xbox logo then loads profile
I have a xbox one that originally works at 110volts, how can I play it on 220volts?
Just get the brick for your region.
Hey! I wanna ask you something, my psu has the solid orange light but when you plug the cable in xbox it starts blinking fastly, so where is the problem? Is there some way to fix it? Should i replace the psu? Is the problem in my Xbox?
It's hard to say from where I'm sitting. BUT, since the PSU is relatively cheap, and they fail often... I would start by replacing it.
I replaced those 32v 2200uf and it didn't work, is it because I used 32v instead of 16v?
The voltage shouldn't keep it from working. It's basically the voltage it can be charged to. There is a chance that the Mosfets have burnt out also.
I have a small solder iron and can get the capacitors here, but want to know how you discharge it and what else I need to use with my solder iron?
You can just short across them with pliers to discharge the caps. OR, a large resistor. Just need some good solder to go with your iron.

I'm glad, and thanks for watching.
It would have been helpful to show your method of how to deal with the stripped screw and get it out
The screw wasn't stripped. The pin in the middle was bent, and the safety driver couldn't go down into it. I just put a small pick in it, and it broke out.
Thank you for responding and explaining
I turned on my Xbox one it chugged along for a second, made some odd noise. Then powered down, no blinking orange light on the powerbrick, nothing, gone, and now it won't turn back on.. it's been like this for the last few days. I sent off for a new powerbrick on Amazon, should fix it?
Probably. If it was in internal xbox issue... the brick light would be on still.
THe brick is a cheap testing point. If you are not able to do the repair... a new one is only around $25 on Amazon. amzn.to/3Nw1rSw
Great vid!! But what if my power supply stays in orange when plugged to the Xbox and when I try to turn it on it just makes a very small "click" sound but it wont turn on... is that my powwer supply too? or is it my console?
Without it all in front of me... it would be hard to tell. BUT... since the brick is only around $25... I would get another to test your console with.
There has to be a way to bulletproof these things, or at least hostile duty-ize one. (A bigger auxiliary fan or something maybe ?)
These X box one bricks seem to be exceptionally light duty.
You may have an issue with the one of the power FETs. So it's going into protect mode as soon as it's loaded.
@@PghGameFix that seem to be it. Thanks for the reply! :)
How much do they charge to fix this, or how much would you charge ?
Realistically... a replacement brick is cheaper than sending your brick to me. This is more for the people who can do their own repairs.
When connecting my xbox one the orange light stays but doesn't start up when powering on it sounds beep and goes off...what is the problem?
There could be an issue with the internal power rail. (in the xbox)

I had a power outage, and once the power came back on I had no response from the console. The power brick displayed no light, is the brick just bad?
I'm guessing there was a power surge, during the outage, and it killed your power brick.
@@PghGameFix sadly, it was a gg for the motherboard. I got a new power supply and had the exact same results, took it to a buddy of mine who’s well versed in this type of stuff, and he said the board was fried. Rip. It lasted over a decade so oh well
@@connordabsrosin1512 Sorry about that. I've worked on a few that had mosfet issues, and I can normally bring them back to life. BUT, when it's a southbridge... then they are normally gone. hey man!! question if you wouldn’t mind, my xbox wasn’t turning on and the power brick was orange. ive bought 2 amazon replacements and none of them worked. what may be wrong with my xbox? anything helps. thank you
