Hey Marmalade, this is Matt (Bill Nye), the fella you were hiking with at around min 11 in the video and camped with at Hauser. Thanks for the company and advise! I’m still on trail and going strong!
Great video Mike - you filmed that section beautifully! We ran into that same trail crew, glad they are fixing that section. Great music selection also! Thanks for sharing!
Great section video for the 1st 2 days. This should be required watching for all new PCT hikers!! Great exposure for them. Love those tablet towels. I came across them 2 years ago and I don't hike without them. They a very light weight, and super strong after you hydrate them!! They can be used multiple times. Free advice; wash your face first and then your feet!!! 😂😜. Great cinematography!
Thanks so much appreciate the kind words… also I had 3 towels so my face got its own towel lol… the way it’s filmed I know it looks like I used the same towel but I didn’t. Yeah many people don’t show much of the first day. They’re either pointing the camera at their face talking or only show Hauser creek and the big climb out of there. Thank you for watching!
Good morning, The trail is so green this year. And there is plenty of water too. I am glad to know that upkeep is happening in that area. That tarantula would have had me screaming. Thanks Marmalade for taking us along. Nice video. Blessings and safe hiking
Thanks Vickie I appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed it. Yes at first the spider looked huge but didn’t look like a tarantula so I was thinking “what the heck is this thing”? Then a few of us looked closer and realized what it was. Their big bit harmless but spiders don’t bother me thankfully lol
You looked like you were full of pep and energy with a spring in your step! You're in your element and have fun. Loved the cheeky comment about the one mile marker... it's true, everyone says the same thing. But it's all part of the fun.
Thanks yeah I’m starting to feel better and better after triple hernia surgery last December. I’m trying to get on a trail anywhere more often when I can, so my hiking form is slowly coming back. Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Nice hike, Mike! You showed detail I've never seen on the first section of the NOBO trail. Also good to see the new pack fits well and carries nicely. I always find the first long hike of the year to be a challenge, muscles are sore the next day and stretches have a limited range. That camp area covered in poison oak doesn't seem like a good stopping spot, I'd be itching by morning! Thanks for the morning rev here, I'm headed off to teach a new crop of Wilderness Ambassadors today and your video really got me in the mood, thanks.
Hey buddy thanks for the thoughtful message. There were a few much better spots but they were all taken when I got there. I also picked this spot because it’s popular and holds a lot of tents so I thought it would be fun to have dinner and chat with all the hikers. Was a weird group, I tried initiating conversation and nobody was interested. Never camped on trail where everyone stated to themselves and nobody was friendly so I just zipped myself in my tent and relaxed. Overall a really enjoyable trip!
@@MarmaladeOutdoors Wow, unfriendly hikers? Maybe they were just exhausted and stunned by their first day on trail-for many it might even be their very, first time on a long hike. But, everyone hikes their own hike and the chances you don't take are the memories you don't make, talking with you is one memory they missed!
Mike thanks for sharing with us all the water sources on this hike. Wish more of the Pct You tubers would do the same. Looking forward to checking out your new pack.
Giving me all the feels of my start last year on April 8th. Looks like even more water on trail this year. There were trail crews on the descent to Hauser then as well. Missing the PCT.... thank you for continuing to make PCT videos.🌻💛
Hey I’ll bet it did remind you of the start last year. Yes there were even more seasonal creek I didn’t show because there were too many lol. Hopefully you will be back on trail soon once you heal up! Cheers
@@MarmaladeOutdoors If you want tips and tricks to maintain weight on trail I've 20 years of experience of gaining weight in a fitness context. I started out at 120 lbs as a teenager and peaked at 235 lbs a couple of years ago.
@SteffenThomsen I would love your help privately. If I have enough content from you I wouldn’t mind making a video on it. If this interest you you can email me whatever you can share with me to marmaladeoutdoors@gmail.com thanks so much!
Great video taking and editing, much appreciated. So for those of us who don't know you, could you clarify, it sounds like you've already done the PCT, and you said you were going home from Lake Moreno. So, what is it that you're doing?
So yes if you look at the top of my channel under playlist I have a playlist for my PCT thru hike. I created a video for every single day on trail and even my zeros (rest days) in towns. This video was just doing a quick 20 mile section because I love backpacking and I was trying my new backpack for the first time. Thanks so much for watching and check out my thru hiking videos if that sort of thing interests you. Cheers

So nice to see you out on the PCT! 😊
Thanks so much, it felt so good to get out there again and to be around all the hikers just starting out. Reminded me just how far they have to go lol
Great video as always. Perfectly matched music selections. 👌🏻👌🏻I still need to do that first 15 miles to complete section A.
Thanks buddy! Yes you do just say when!

Do you get a local permit for at hike like this?
No I didn’t, technically you’re supposed too for this section but I have done it probably 15 times and never have.
Whats the pack..?.
Hey there it’s the Zpacks Arc Haul Ultra 50
