    My Grandmother was a Cassically trained pianist who played all the classics on radio. She used to listen to Liberace on the radio before he was on tv. I have been a professional guitarist for over 50 years. And also play piano and banjo. I have always loved Liberace and his playing and showmanship. He was one of a kind for sure. Years ago i visited The Liberace Museum in Nevada. What a gentle talented man he was. God Bless him and all the years he gave his talent to the world( for a price of course).

    Liberace was a prodigy and a virtuoso; classically trained. A brilliant pianist. Don't put him down. He has stunning classical technique.

    Damn! His control, voicing, even scale,...this guy was NOT just a Vegas act. I know, I know...he waters down somethings (I've performed this piece), but his HEART...is music. Liberace was NOT about notes. He was all about the music. Someone please bring this back.

    Liberace was such a warm and fun-loving man, who clearly enjoyed what he was doing, as much as those who enjoyed listening to and watching him do it. I think Liberace brought some very special joy to this world, and I see nothing wrong with what he did. He was beyond a mere competent pianist, who chose to bring a smile and a sparkle to his showmanship. He may not have been your cup of tea. But others certainly liked what this man was pouring from his pot.

    Entertaining and astoundingly flamboyant, Liberace, like most of the brilliant, was ahead of his time. His unusual attire and lifestyle of candelabras and jewels was intriguing and fun to all, because he just did what he liked to do. He was truly original. He always makes me smile.

    Among the many things that set Liberace apart from typical "classically trained pianists"; he made classical music accessible, entertaining and communicating to common folk, while mixing in more familiar tunes...but always presenting it with all the ceremonial pomp and glitter he knew it deserved. That's why he's called "Mr. Showmanship".

    Liberace played with such perfection and with such life in everything he played. A prodigy who chose not to pursue the concert stage, but rather to take the music he loved to the people who truly loved him and his music--the common folk. His influence on the entire music world will never be known!

    Victor Borge once said "the world is full of great pianists but the only two most people remember is me and Liberace".
    I think that referred to the showmanship at which Liberace created standards that modern "stars" have no hope of reaching.

    One of only a meager handful of the top super geniuses that have walked the earth. A tortured soul who felt he had to hide his secret, and that was a great tragedy. We sincerely wish he never had to carry that burden and we pray he's found rest and comfort in the arms of his beloved Jesus.

    • @aeraxxis
      @aeraxxis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      From what I see I would have seen no different anyways. Possibly in his eyes he didn't want to be known as a gay performer but just a performer. He didn't perform to speak for a certain group of people he performed because that was obviously what he enjoyed. Regardless he gave off a unique persona on stage and that's that.

    Lee was my neighbor in Palm Springs. My family owned 222 Chino Drive, across from Lee's house. I was married in the church next door some decades later. :-) The home is recently owned by one of Kirk Douglas's sons (not Michael) and was formerly the love-nest of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard (!) as well as a United States ambassador (!). I didn't see Lee while I lived there due to his hectic schedule and my relative youth but the Baby Grand Piano that was there is now here at my place (downstairs) and has weathered 2 generations playing on it rather well I might add) including Miss April who has stunned with some extemporaneous compositions lasting lengthy periods in-between her guitar, trumpet, and violin. My mom hosted a number of walkthroughs at Lee's place in-between her Palm Springs Life society page editorship and the Desert Sun. :-))))
