  • Today I received a call out from a friends mum who lost power downstairs, I don't normally do call outs but the van was in for a MOT so i had some spare time, grabbed the GoPro and started filming.
    Hope you enjoy!!

    Even after years as a spark, fault finding occasionally gets me nervous.

    When I install those BG Boards I always double-check that the breakers are fully open and that the bus bar goes in properly, I've seen it so many times where the busbar goes behind the terminal on the MCB and it does get terminated properly causing it to arc.

    An interesting video Adam. What causes a screw holding in a breaker to become loose over time?

    • @sotaelectrical

      Hi Bob!! It probably wasn’t done up super tight in the first place, but it’s the vibrations that loosen it off

    • @golf-electrics

      I would say it’s always been loose and was never torqued properly …..

      @@golf-electrics maybe so,

      @@golf-electrics there was no signs of arching or anything though luckily

      That was lucky….lose connection on a ring main breaker you would expect more arc damage.some dis boards have design faults where you can mis align a circuit breaker on the bus bar and tighten it up with the impression of a good connection but in reality it is only touching the bus bar. Dentist mirror is a handy device to have to check this when installing. Always do a wiggle test😂

    You could see an arc flash in the consumer unit @ 1:06 which would have been the loose connection. The mcb and busbar will almost certainly be scorched and will require replacement.

      I did take out the MCB and check the bus bar and they were fine luckily

    Linda would need to declutter

  • @chrisardern4594

    Personally i would have checked all the connections on the buzz with a mirror just to see that the buzzbar was actually within the mg gate. If the installer could not be bothered to tighten the mcb screw what else could he not be bothered doing.

    • @sotaelectrical

      I did check that also just didn’t show it in the video buddy

      @@sotaelectrical I thought you would have done but I thought it was worth mentioning especially as a lot of young apprentices watch these post to pick up tips and that's a good tip to know.

    Please don't start the Artisan Electrics thing. .back and forwards camera movement, for the sake of it....adds nothing to any video ..

      I’m not really sure what your on about to be honest, I’m nothing like Artisan and don’t want to be either,
