Wow, really good stuff. Cant believe you got all of that done on your own in 2 days. Bet you were knackered.
Got to say we come across similar things regularly, especially hidden in loft spaces. Although not after a re-wire. I hate having to move all the insulation and stored boxes in a loft. No matter where you put stuff its always in the way.
Not sure Id be worried about premature collapse of cables in a loft, but fair play why not. Impressive work fella, bet your client was over the moon

Definitely a massive improvement! The only thing that would worry me is that piece of very crooked bus bar on the non-RCD section by the main switch, doesn't look like the RCBO (third from the main switch) is properly connected. Guess the MCB next to it isn't compatible with this board.

  • @paulellam6926

OMG, my question, is how on earth are the people responsible for that volts nest and amateur wiring even qualified? Do they even know what regulations are? How could anyone install in such a manner that they even think it is ok that way? How could they even sleep at night? So glad you are the one who guided the client so sensitively, and I can imagine tactfully about the situation, and then sorted that mess out for them. Feel sorry for the client that they got done over by lets face it a cowboy, a lazy trades person or just a incompetent buffoon. However you got them sorted, and thats the main thing. I,m a trainee spark, albeit not a youngster, and have learnt a lot from how you handled and rectified this scenario. Subscribed, and will share with fellow training sparks!

As a industrial sparks of 50 years recently retired even though I only did house wiring as an apprentice I would say my main comment would be not to listen to so called sparks on social media as far as I can see you have done the best that is possible putting a cowboys work right, although it wasn't in the price because the customer could not afford it I was taught as an apprentice that its good electrical practice to cut connections down to a bare minimum,so in the Industrial world I would have been told to rewire rather than install a junction box but I understand in the domestic game that's not always done, but overran a good job

There is absolutely no way sparks would do something like that and and walk away thinking it’s acceptable or safe. I know sparks out do some bad work but this something else. You can’t polish a turd and did everything you can fair play for taking the job on and somehow making it acceptable. I’ve got the ‘newer’ version of that Milwaukee drill after having that one-it’s really decent. Only thing is rather than a toggle like every other drill for forward and reverse they’ve put a button on the top,so if you have the drill tight to the wall and need to put in reverse when gets stuck you can’t get to the button!!! 😂😂

Earth used as a switch cable, had that done to me... on the first circuit when rewiring my flat a couple of years ago... I remember noticing it while having a look at the work done at the end of the first day because the switch hadn't been screwed back into place... When I confronted the "electrician" about it he went mad at me saying I was making a fuss about nothing and he wasn't going to waste any time fixing this... I got pretty angry with him at that point and told him to stop any further electrical work on my flat. It was a flat wired in the 70's and I was spending a fair amount of money to entirely reawire it and I wasn't goging to put up with that sort of crap. If a guy couldn't do something as simple as a 2 way swithc properly, what was the more complicated stuff going to be like?!

Note: that job was in France but I have also seen an outside socket connected directly to the main without any fuse or power breaker of any kind (France too, but not at my place) or an internet cable being laid accros the front lawn without any protection... wich of course got cut the first time I mowed that lawn (in the UK this time)... if you get work done on your home you really need to keep an eye on what is being done and how no matter the country!

Its alot better than it was. The staple gun i just think its worthnit as the cable isnt tight and wont hold stright like when its clipped but thats just me OCD. The fireseal of the board isnt needed at all. The socket outside cant you just put some conduit down so that way no swa needed. But overall good work.

I agree the staple gun is not as neat as clipping but time was against me. Yep absolutely can do that with the socket, thanks for your comments!!

Yeah I don’t like the staple gun, it doesn’t get the cables tight enough and there is sag in the cable! But nice job, polishing a turd is hard but you gave it a good crack 👌

Careful with the camera sudden movement....or before long it'll end up like artisan electrics . .waving about and out of focus.... excess movement...then slowed down.....and then theres the music 🎵🎵🎵..agh

10/10 to you, shame you cant name and shame the original installers. A good name would have been bodgit and scarper ltd

25:27 That socket looks like a BG Smart Socket? Did you manage to get it connected to to Wi-Fi? I love the hardware, the build quality and the buttons and LEDs but the software and app I sadly found rubbish :-(
