Yamaha MT-07 (Genuine) Comfort Seat Review

  • Wondering about upping the comfort on your MT-07 and have your eye on the genuine Yamaha accessory comfort seat? I tested the standard and comfort seat back to back, and have a look at the advantages of the comfort seat and whether it actually makes a difference.
    I definitely think so, with the comfort seat offering a big improvement as I spent more time on the MT-07, with the extra padding a real advantage for long rides and bigger periods in the saddle.
    At $414.75 AUD here in Australia the Yamaha Comfort Seat does fall into that bigger ticket item modification, but if you're doing the big kilometres or spending a lot of time in the daily slog to work, I reckon this is an accessory that easily justifies the cost.
    If you're in Australia, details for the Yamaha Comfort Seat are here (or talk to your local Yamaha dealer):

    I bought a new MT07 Tracer last November. I'd ridden a demo, with the standard seat and I thought it was dreadful! Made of concrete I reckon! So I optioned the comfort seat. I found it almost as bad! It's about 20mm thicker (which raises the seat height - worth considering if you're on the short side), but it's not 20mm of comfort. I took it off. I ended up putting the standard seat back on and using a sheepskin pad with some foam under it. That was okay, but still not ideal. (Comfort is a big issue for me). Finally I went to MJM in Goulburn and got a custom job done. That cost almost $500 but it works!
    So in my opinion the Yamaha job is NOT worth the extra. Go custom.

    I've had the comfort seat on my FZ-07 for almost 5 years now. It's one of the best investments you can make. The other being steel-braided brake lines.

      @@hankrodriguezhill7029 non-braided brake lines expand a bit when braking. It makes the brakes feel a bit spongy and not as powerful.

      I reckon it should help there, but I'd probably want to be on a FJR1300 for that kind of trip/mileage!

    Hi everybody!
    Do you have anybody experience with passenger seat?
    Is it more comfortable that normal rear seat?

  • @mad3st
    @mad3st 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does anyone know if this newer seat will also fit older first-generation models? I have not been able to find 1WS-247C0-00-00 anywhere in EU. Some shops show it in stock but when you try to order then "discontinued" sorry.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They did change the seat design, so I'm not sure it would. From what I've seen 2018 onwards seats don't list compatibility with the older bikes.

  • @marcusgeorge1825
    @marcusgeorge1825 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks Kris. Is the comfort seat just for the rider or does the price also include a matching pillion one? If not then how much is the pillion one so at least they will both look the same.

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The price includes the pillion seat, which was already fitted from what I understand to the bike. I just grabbed the standard seat to do a comparison, as I was interested to see what kind of difference it makes. They do seem like a good match as fitted to the bike.

    nice vid! i got the comfort seat thanks to you!
    I do find the comfort seat a little bit on the hard side when compared to my normal seat. It could be because it is new and still has to "break in". did you had similar thoughts when you tried it the first time?

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually first got the bike with the comfort seat fitted, so it was already run in, and then I swapped back to see how it compared.

    Nice video! Do you know if these seats, both stock and comfort are made from leather or faux/plastics?

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think either are leather. Both seemed synthetic from what I could tell.

    Did you notice weird sounds comming from the front of the seat? the seat is only lock behind with 2 screws, and the front stay "free", making noises when you seat on it, did you experience that?

    • @MotoJournoKris
      @MotoJournoKris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not that I noticed to be honest! That's quite a common design with many seats however. It could be a case of too much free play where it slides into places at the opposite end to the screws.

    • @Ghostsoulless
      @Ghostsoulless ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just picked up a 2018 MT-07 and immediately noticed a constant squeaking at the front of the seat where it meets the tank plastics. There’s rubber on the underside of the seat that rubs against the plastic. I put some felt pads where it hits and it quieted it down quite a bit, so I’d try something similar if you still have this issue
