Which in a way is a bluff, by orders he is to take prisoners and later stands before them to accept their surrender, but at this stage of the battle, he knows if he offered surrender they would use it as a chance to further stall.

He is not dangerous like a crazed gunman, almost immortal being, or a blood-thirsty gang lord who are dangerous because they do what they want. What makes him so dominant is his character. He has Imperial schooling in warfare, statistics and tactics, and has mastered the skills to almost perfection; but these are the tools. He is the weapon. He is only dangerous when needed.
His eloquence is so captivating. How he employs such delicate articulation without any hyperbole is just perfect. The modesty is very intimidating on so many levels.
I wouldn't call myself modest, I simply prefer to state the facts as they are. It's of no tactical advantage to lie about such things at this point in time...
What I love about Thrawn is that you very much get the impression that he's the protagonist of his own story. He's undoubtedly the bad guy, and yet he's written and performed like he's the main character of a book so complex it makes puts Ulysses to shame. He has a motivating goal that caused him to leave his home and become part of an unfamiliar galaxy. He climbed rank against all odds, and once he made it to the top it became his mission to fight a rebel faction sewing discord within the Empire. What makes him feel like a villain despite this (other than his allegiance of course) is the fact that he's leagues above the heroes. He is a real threat to the rebellion in a way very few ever managed to be.
Hopefully, the upcoming "Thrawn Alliances" will get to shed some more spotlight on their dynamic! (assuming that Vader won't hog too much of the spotlight)

I believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Grand Inquisitor are similar in certain ways: 1. Both are aliens who hold position of high authority within the Galactic Empire. 2. Both are skill in close-quarters combat. Thrawn is skilled in unarmed combat and with a blaster rifle meanwhile the Inquisitor duels flawlessly with a lightsaber. 3. Both are calm, tactful, ruthless, calculating and polite towards their enemies. 4. Both have encountered the Ghost Crew rebels from Lothal during their times as the main Antagonist. 5. Thrawn credits his enemy fleet for their talents. 6. The Inquisitor salutes his opponent in the makashi form before a lightsaber duel.
Palpatine: manipulates the entire Galaxy, positions his war chess in just the right place, creates a dictatorship with him at the top of the pyramid and all while maintaining a believable facade of a humble softness Thrawn: “Impressive… alright I’ll serve you. But I’ll show you how to strategically take down your enemies without subterfuge.”
And people think that Vader is epic, but he is a bully with magic powers -50 off, nothing more. Thrawn on the other hand truly chills my blood, and sets cold sweat on my back. Well writen indeed.

It preys upon your deepest desires and ambitions, your fears and hopes, whispering sweet nothings into your ear, twisting your nature until you become little more than a shadow of your former self, promising you mastery, but in reality making you a slave to it. And in both LOTR and SW, a major theme is that you simply *cannot* use evil to fight evil. (Fun fact, Dave Filoni is a huge Tolkien fan)

The rebels could have taken some strategy lessons from Thrawn. You must get to know your enemy, not just their battle tactics but their history and art. Why they joined the Empire, where did they come from, born into the empire or not. His/ her home planet on good relations with the empire or not? Etc

Thrawn - the one competent leader the Empire ever seemed to have. Just imagine how different the Galactic Civil War might have been if he hadn’t been AWOL for most of it.
