I feel the short was showing how being stubborn to one single belief (either mindlessly following rules, or mindlessly having sex), both lead to the destruction of themselves. So I can't agree that it was mocking one side. I don't feel that's the focus. And being biased towards one side just goes to show that what's in this short is still happening. Mary sees these, gets pissed off, and waltzes over to Jesus currently preaching a sermon. 3. Judas in the Swingers club. Mary rides a sheep like a literal bouncy ball as a whole mass of other sheep watch cheering on. Judas stares on in awe before climbing up a mountain of sheep to Mary at the top and proceeds to get nasty with her, before Jesus comes in, scorns them, and gets captured. Judas and Mary watch him get dragged away before immediately continuing to get it on. 4. The scene with Mary at the end. Mary cries over Judas's dead body before proceeding to finger herself, where upon her skin turns blood red, snakes crawl out of her lady parts which then turn into a giant dragon with seven heads (Which is very clearly taken from the prostitute riding the dragon story in the book of Revelations) which spews out fire burning all of the sheep that hung Judas. Mary hops on said dragon and the two fly off into the night as the ending title card drops.

I think the short has something fairly profound to say, and it’s not to do with religion. It’s all about Mary. Judas and Jesus are solid good vs evil forces in her life, but she could go either way. She’s the only one that develops and it’s really all about her body. Jesus sees her body as something to cover, something to be ashamed of, where Judas of course just wants to fuck her. She seems to admire Jesus’ righteousness but is left hurt and ashamed. She feels free and confident around Judas, but he’s a creep that doesn’t respect her. Both are killed, and she’s left to make her own choices. I think in the end she embraces her freedom by transforming into the Whore of Babylon, becoming an extreme caricature of womanhood. Idk these were just some thoughts I had.
I believe that sums it up. It think what rubbed me the wrong way wasn't the depiction of Jesus or the glamorization of Judas' lust. Both are portrayed in ways that made them unlikable. It was Mary, in the end, who made be feel bad. The point of the short was not to go to the extremes on both ways, as being "holier than thou" makes you a demanding, arrogant ass while indulging in all your desires is unhealthy and harmful. Mary was painted to represent to be the middle ground early on, so she was supposed to be what we should be instead of the extremes. Instead, the short loses the plot and makes her indulges in lust anyway, which felt like some NTR shit.
I'm german and I remember when this came out. I was having like a german version of sunday School back then, being maybe 14 years old. Preparation for the evangelical confirmation. I remember watching that movie with the "class" and the priest and discussing it. of course as teenagers this was a wild ride that we found very funny and the priest didn't dislike it either. We discussed it and laughed and that was it. It defenitly felt different from a german perspective, to that of an american christian I assume. I have completly forgotten that this movie existed. I think the short has something fairly profound to say, and it’s not to do with religion. It’s all about Mary. Judas and Jesus are solid good vs evil forces in her life, but she could go either way. She’s the only one that develops and it’s really all about her body. Jesus sees her body as something to cover, something to be ashamed of, where Judas of course just wants to fuck her. She seems to admire Jesus’ righteousness but is left hurt and ashamed. She feels free and confident around Judas, but he’s a creep that doesn’t respect her. Both are killed, and she’s left to make her own choices. I think in the end she embraces her freedom by transforming into the Whore of Babylon, becoming an extreme caricature of womanhood. Idk these were just some thoughts I had.
Now that I think about it... It does sound quite accurate!

I believe that sums it up. It think what rubbed me the wrong way wasn't the depiction of Jesus or the glamorization of Judas' lust. Both are portrayed in ways that made them unlikable. It was Mary, in the end, who made be feel bad. The point of the short was not to go to the extremes on both ways, as being "holier than thou" makes you a demanding, arrogant ass while indulging in all your desires is unhealthy and harmful. Mary was painted to represent to be the middle ground early on, so she was supposed to be what we should be instead of the extremes. Instead, the short loses the plot and makes her indulges in lust anyway, which felt like some NTR shit.
I'm german and I remember when this came out. I was having like a german version of sunday School back then, being maybe 14 years old. Preparation for the evangelical confirmation. I remember watching that movie with the "class" and the priest and discussing it. of course as teenagers this was a wild ride that we found very funny and the priest didn't dislike it either. We discussed it and laughed and that was it. It defenitly felt different from a german perspective, to that of an american christian I assume.
I have completly forgotten that this movie existed. I only now remembered that I have seen it, back when I was still a member of the church many many years ago. Thank you for reminding me.
