    • @chibba5418
      @chibba5418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hydrolocking is really unlikely via CAIs, and is a common misconception. You pretty much need to submerge a firing engine in water to hydrolock it.

    You’re better off keep the short RAM. The Cold air will pull a a bit more cool air, but not worth it because you’d be sacrificing HP for a tiny bit of cooler air and having more bends on the pipe. The least amount of travel means more HP. Humble Performance was tuning a Civic. The civic had a Cold Air intake that was long with quite a few bends. They swapped it out with a short RAM and gained 15HP! Just by using a short RAM. And the CAI’s filter they got rid of was at the same location you pointed out for the CAI you want to add. Nice ride!

    • @OlsonAuto
      @OlsonAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @chibba5418
      @chibba5418 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colder intake temps are much more important for small, low compression engines, especially the K24, than increasimg airflow.
      Depending on where the peak power was measured, what intakes were compared, and what else is done to the engine, I don't doubt the SRI showing better results. Below 4500rpm, the SRI should show better than the CAI
      But, CAIs will result in an overall better performance for small 4 cylinders than SRIs.

    Cold air intakes will reduce your low-end , and increase somewhat your upper end and given most people are light to light runs it's useless.. I enjoy my low-end torque doesn't matter to me about picking up 5 more horsepower after 80 mph you don't feel a 5 to 10 hp increase anyways .. On a modded motor it's different ,stock it's a waste of money .. Looks nice but that's it ,. it's open for debate but I've personally dyno proven it ...

    A good SRI that comes tuned for K24 will run you $250
    A good CAI that comes tuned for K24 (and doesn't require engine bay rearramgement) will be $350.
    Spend the extra and get the CAI.
    SRIs reduce hp at high rpm and increase hp at low rpm, while CAIs reduce hp at low rpm and increase hp at high rpm.
    CAIs are better because the net gain (increase of power at high rpm minus loss of power at low rpm) is higher than SRIs, primarily due to the fact that SRIs do not lower intake temps, whereas CAIs do.
    SRIs increase airflow more than CAIs, however, lowering intake temp is more important than increasing airflow for small engines with stock fuel injectors, especially our DOHC I-Vtecs that are already torque (eco) oriented.
    Also, CAIs are generally better for your engine in the long run.

But there's a different one that auto zone say goes in my car.

    • @OlsonAuto
      @OlsonAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah mine threw a few different codes, but I was also chasing other problems so it was hard to tell. Autozone probably recommended the K&N, I’m not sure if that’ll cause a CEL but worst case, you return it

    • @chibba5418
      @chibba5418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexcarrasco6180 Get one that is specific to the K24 engine, or tune it.
      You're likely getting a catalyst efficiency code, which means your cats aren't working right, likely because you're running lean (too much airflow from new intake or you have a leak)
      Short Ram intakes increase airflow, which is useless on our stock engines.
      Cold Air intakes decrease intake temp, which increade horsepower, and you probably won't get that CEL.
      I recommend Takeda, Injen, or K&N cold air

    You put way too much work into it, all you have to do is take out the airbox and the filter and replace just the air box with the cold air intake cone filter.
    That looks a lot cleaner and no large silver pipe sticking out you don't have to undo anything else it's so simple like 5 minutes.
    And at 11 minutes into the video you mentioned the thicker red whose with the little box you threw into the back of the pickup truck you don't need that at all you don't even need the hose all you do is delete the pcv and attach a open filter to the end of it and it sounds a lot better. That way the gases and the oils are not recycling them self.

    • @OlsonAuto
      @OlsonAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked into a PCV delete but with it being my daily, fuel economy was my bigger concern. And yea, I could’ve kept the box and probably would’ve been better off but I just wanted to see how the kit was and to see if it was worth it. I recently sold the car but I wasn’t too upset with it, it performed decent. In the future and on my prelude I’ll just be making my own intake
