  • When a patient's injuries don't match up to his supposed accident and alcohol is found in his system, doctors suspect he might have been the driver in a hit-and-run that killed one of the victims.
From Transplant Season 1 Episode 4 'Saleh' - Dr. Bishop puts extra pressure on Bash, while Theo feels powerless when something happens to one of his daughters back home; a patient puts Mags' moral convictions to the test and June tries to improve her social skills.
Transplant (2020) When Dr. Bashir Hamed, a charismatic Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine, flees his war-torn homeland, he and his younger sister become refugees, struggling to forge a new life in Canada. If Bash ever wants to be a doctor again, he must redo his medical training from the ground up. He scores a residency in the biggest Emergency Department of the best hospital in Toronto, but it's a tough road. Bash's training is different, his life experience is different and he's not an exact match for his new colleagues. But his journey is universal, and his passion and hopefulness become contagious.

This show takes place in Canada, so there's no HIPAA. Instead they have PIPEDA, which is broader than HIPAA, but it has exceptions so sometimes a patient's info can be shared without consent.

If you believe patient confidentiality exists outside of Canada, you are naïve. Same with psychologists, priests, police men, doctors, teachers etc. They do not consider civilians rights all that important. Think House MD, but without the obsession of wanting to cure a person. If a profession is positioned in Hollywood as the ultimate party to trust with your problems, it is because the system really wants you to blindly trust them, even if you see evidence contradicting it.

(No one was killed, thankfully 🙏) He's 62 now; never had another drink, not a drop, since the day he stopped. He also did the same thing with smoking, eventually. My dad stopped smoking after 30 years, and can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke these days. So no, not everybody slips and not everybody lies.

    • @blackdandelion5549

While I agree with this statement the doctors do need to go with the numbers and the numbers are clear that in just the first year after completing AA 60% of people will relapse. With time that number will grow as some people had drinking as a coping mechanism for a long time and some may have grown up witnessing it or have friends who drink. It's down to 13% to 14% of people who have completed AA who stay sober for longer than 5 years.
I get that they made an all or nothing statement, but they do work on the odds and the odds are in favor of relapse in the long term and of people lying about it to their loved ones and to medical professionals. The ones who do stay sober the 5, 10, 15, 20+ years they probably don't see much of until they are elderly and have the same health issues as every other person who is old and grey.

And if you don't think people will be bothered by such a small detail, there was a show I watched where they would do close-ups of characters' hands during cooking scenes and a lot of commenters noticed that no matter who was cooking, the hands looked like they came from the same person, likely a professional chef.

They're now starting to use this drug in Psychiatry for a "ketamine reset" -- producing the effects that changed your life so drastically for the better. How wonderful that you had a side effect that did you such great good!

I’ve had migraines and headaches everyday. My body is in constant state of fight or flight. But when I was doing ketamine therapy at a doctors office it was like the off button had been pressed. It was wonderful but too expensive to continue doing since I’m unable to hold down a job. I’m going to an endocrinologist praying that I had Addison Disease. It suppresses Cortisol levels in the body producing pain and a whole bunch other side effects that I’ve had. I don’t know for sure if I have it but it’s a treatable disease and after eight years of suffering with no medication that could control it, it would be great to have an answer.

It really depends on the situation. Hospitals don't want to discouraged people from receiving help but they also have to consider everyone's safety. I'm guessing the Resident on call would be the one to decide if they should call the police or not. Hospitals also have Ethics Boards that they can call in and consult.

It so horrible that an alcoholic can do that and in real life it does happen. A lot. So people if you have a relative say like your mother or father who has a alcoholic problem don’t trust them. Hate them for what they truly are to you and one other thing don’t forgive them just yet because process all the anger towards them and tell them that you don’t love them anymore. After that forgive yourself and move on from their. Find someone or something that makes you happy.
