    The mom who did the matchmaking…. That’s why she’s working at marketing for Catholic Answers…. And apparently doing a fabulous job.

    We need a lot more of shows like this. I think this should be regular and even a call in show. I know SO many people, Catholic and secular, struggling to meet someone and struggling to discern their vocation. We need more shows talking about how Catholic life is practically lived in the modern world. We all love the Early Fathers and Apologetics but that doesn't reach everyone and is not of interest to everyone. Dating and marriage has a huge audience, most people have experience with or interest in intimate relationships and yet ZERO guidance. I have been married for 25 years in June 2021 and talk about how to be a great spouse and what to look for in a relationship with my young adult and teen children a lot. My eldest daughter who is 20 is getting drawn back into her faith because she is starting to realise what she wants (marriage at a young age, children, be a stay at home mom etc.) is only possible with a spouse on the same page. She is a Sophomore in college and is getting disillusioned with secular dating. She is starting to realise she would need to find a good Catholic man who would share her values to have a happy marriage. Evangelism comes in many different forms and Catholic dating, marriage and family life is GOOD NEWS compared to the culture.

    Definitely feel the issue of dating someone for a long time then feeling it’s time to call it off. Was with my bf for almost 5/6 years and was even engaged a few months ago.
    However, we were long distance most of that time and even though we would talk about things like kids, budget, etc, there just always felt like something was missing. When he went to a Lutheran seminary for deacon training and expressed thoughts on becoming one, I knew it wouldn’t work. Been thinking ever since of the little things I should have realized I couldn’t work around, but at some point the relationship felt more of an obligation that I felt I couldn’t break it off.
    There were some good, Catholic guys I met while in college that I could have gotten to know, and now they’re either in other relationships (most which I see are great for both parties) or I’ve lost contact with them.
    Stinks, but I lay it all in God’s hands and the Saints that deal with match making. Though maybe I need marketing mom’s intercession as well 😂😅

      Pints with Aquinas the TH-cam channel ( Trent's been on a couple of times), recommends a dating act called Catholic Chemistry. Idk how I feel about it but if you've checked it out and like it all the best. God bless.

    Trent, if I was ten years older, lived in the US, and somehow met you, we would have been great friends, I think. I'm also introverted, melancholic, and keep my emotions at arms length. And many of my close friends are like that too.

    These are beautiful stories. You know those folks who say "I wish my parents would have made me stick with the piano when I was a kid?"
    This is far more important than that.

    Around the 15min mark, I think by the time you have your first date, 1 year is plenty of time to know whether you will marry that person and to actually get married by the 365th day

    Well I don't know, if your ( I find it a bit strange this is glossed over ) and if this marriage doesn't work out, this could be kind of contentious between daughter and your mother . I for one wouldn't want that hanging over my head.
    I mean Catholics aren't supposed to get divorced but that doesn't mean they're aren't lot of Catholics in bad marriages - staying in it for the faith. ( I feel the church more concerned about couples staying married then if they are in a happy marriage. I was always told ,God doesn't necessarily want you happy but he certainly wants you holy)
    and I find it devious and manipulative on your mother's and fiancée/husbands part, to me its not a good way to start a relationship - And I for one wouldn't want to be played. Good Luck.

    Wow, I wish I had a wing man-mom..... everytime I ask for my mom and dad for help in meeting a Catholic man, they are NO help, they won't even try and don't care if I live with them till I'm 60.... ;( Pray for me. Please.

    • @erikkollar66
      @erikkollar66 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you even want your parents to help you with this kind of stuff? I think that what happened here was a rather rare case. Parents being wingmen is usually quite embarrassing. Besides, what´s wrong with dating someone who isn´t Catholic? Dating is not marriage. People can convert. I was myself a Nihilist before I converted to Catholicism.

    So the younger lady was "set up" with a total stranger by her mother, who schemed behind her back and told the total stranger not to say anything about it? That is just so messed up.

      @@larrymelman Man, you are extremely cynical, almost to the point of delusion... They're Catholics and they were trusting of that family. There is no reason to be aware of people who 1. share the same core values and belief as you 2. are close enough to visit your workplace...

    • @larrymelman
      @larrymelman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@csongorarpad4670 Maybe you should listen to it again. The guy was definitely NOT 'close enough to visit the workplace'. He was there on some sort of facility tour. The mother didn't know him from Adam. She didn't know anything about his core values. You expect your relatives to screen for that, but clearly that didn't happen here.

      @@larrymelman that's what I mean by you being cynical... The guy was a Catholic and the only information he was given is that she would be singing during the Holy Mass... For him to participate in celebrating the Holy Mass is far more significant than you apparently understand.

    Horn, were you let go from the "Office of Marriage and Respect Life" in Phoenix? I live there, and I can't recall the last time I heard about a wedding in the local parishes. Singles can't meet and aren't marrying in the Church, so this office is a spectacular failure. Unless it's trying to sponsor social events to help singles to become known in the parish communities, but I know that isn't happening either.

    How do I understand temperaments exactly? I'd say my Trad girlfriend isn't very level headed vs that's just who she is?

    • @bernadettegalvin7768
      @bernadettegalvin7768 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      level headed doesnt sound like a temperament thing, more of a maturity thing. I would ask yourself if she can be level headed about serious things if needed, but if not that might be a problem.
