I have to say that it was truly exceptional - a lot of money, but worth every penny as a special treat!!
A tad steep but you're paying for the name again but looks decent enough pal.😁

You can immediately see the difference between a franchise and a restaurant where the celebrity chef actually owns it and is engaged. When a celebrity restaurant is just franchised out, but the food is sub-par, it's difficult for the protagonist to pull them into line after the franchisee has spent maybe millions to get the franchise.
That's exactly right - you can see he is keeping a close eye on standards here!
Thank you for this review Greeno. James Martin is my favourite chef and I watch him every Saturday morning. Made my day that you really enjoyed your meal. I did ask Gary to review a James Martin restaurant but I expect he will at some stage! X
I am sure he will get round to it :-) It was a fab experience, just a shame he was too busy down at the main hotel to pop his head in !
Locally produced meat excellent you don't mind paying for quality, as I always say you wouldn't go every week etc but for the exceptional quality of ingredients presented beautifully it was well worth it.

One of the very few celeb restaurants where the food lives up to the chef rep. All of that looked amazing. Wow. Def worth it for a treat if that's the quality

It's in thegrounds of a properly swanky country hotel - always going to be top end price-wise... but at least this time the quality actually matched the price tag :-)

I have to say firstly, although the food looks exceptional, as a butcher there is no way in hell id pay £34 for a pork chop no matter what size it was! Pork is the one meat that hasnt gone up in price since forever. Beef & Lamb have skyrocketed in the last 3 years but not pork.
Im not a Salmon fan but by gum that looked like a fantastic piece of fish.
I DO appreciate the work that went into cooking and presenting your meal but just feel the prices were a bit salty for me! Great review tho! Thanks for sharing!👍👏👏👏♥️
Not the kind of money I would normally shell out on a meal, but it really was an exceptional experience. Maybe as a special treat (I have to say that as Mrs Greeno will surely want to go sometime!)

Every course looked amazing and I could almost taste it. I once ate in a James Martin restaurant while on a cruise and that was delicious.
When I win the lottery, I want to go to that restaurant and have a full three course meal. Great video, congratulations James.

In my humble opinion your mouthwatering meal was worth every penny. Totally agree with you that the combination of asparagus (in Germany we prefer the white asparagus) with hollandaise sauce is just heavenly. But you had bernaise sauce which for me is the queen of all the sauces. Besides the tarragon the making is a little bit different.

Vielen Dank Ulli ! I like the white asparagus too, but we don't see it often in the UK. And bearnaise is my absolute favourite sauce, goes great with fish, steak, chicken.

It was stunning - the prices made me wince a little at first, but I came away feeling like it was worth the money.
That pork chop looks so delicious. I love salmon as well, so you picked just what I would have, it all looked so high quality. The dessert as well, looked like art on a plate. Nice to have a treat and do a high end place sometimes, and one that lives up to the name as well.
It really was a treat, and to come away from an expensive place feeling like it was actually worth the money!
Greeno, James Martin when he was younger was a real dish himself. He grew up at Castle Howard a few miles from York and learned a lot of skills as a kid in the Castle Howard kitchens since his parents worked there. I do love his cooking style and recipes and I often use a cookbook I still use that was signed by him when he opened a Wilcos in York (how down to earth can that be? ).
That starter was so so a choice I would make every day and so would that main. I am envious of you having such a wonderful meal but not of course the end cost. I would have gnawed that bone for sure. And the pudding was to kill for.

I did feel lucky to have eaten there. Every part of the meal was great - the grounds that the restaurant sits in, the decor, the staff and the service. All top notch!
Price is relative, you are paying for quality ingredients of which there were many in those dishes and the expertise of the people cooking them. It's clear from the high standards in all aspects of the place that James Martin keeps a close eye on things, unlike some celebrity owned establishments, so worth the money and a definite green light. I would love to eat there myself!

Pork is my favourite meat, particularly a chop, and that looked delicious. Expensive place but somewhere to go as a treat

Beautiful decor and outside area. The Elderflower drink sounded really nice. I rarely eat fish but the salmon with the salad also looked really good. I also don't eat meat, but it seems you really enjoyed it. Interesting review. I'd try it for the veggie options. Not in my usual price range, but would be good for a special occasion! Good value for the experience.
For sure it's a pricey affair eating there. But as a treat... the venue, service and cookery were just fab
I have to be honest that I have really been put off going to a celebrity resaraunt, the quality of what i have seen by vicariously living through yourself and others has been very lack luster but, if it was not the price, the looks of this one is impressive. That salmon looked totally amazing (I love salmon lol)
Celebrity chef restaurants are indeed often disappointing, as they are no more than a famous name above the door. But you can tell James Martin has a real input into this place, the quality and standards are top notch.
@@GreenoEats I think the trouble is exactly that, they have so minimal input into their restaurants and they are essentially a chain restaurants so they could not physically do so. This leads to standards lowering and prices being expected to reflect the name above the door, as you said. It is sad because you watch these chefs produce amazing meals on the telly or internet and that is what you expect. I think you said it best when you went to rick steins (a food hero of mine too) restaurant, "Never meet your heroes".

Yes, I did think the set menu was a little uninspiring - hence me going all in and ordering a la carte :-)

Absolutely - I saw some of the other dishes that people ordered too, and they all looked similarly well thought out and executed.
Hi Greeno. I actually went to James Martin's restaurant in Manchester in August. It was an office night out and thankfully I wasn't paying. However, the food was actually superb and I would gladly have paid myself. I had a pork belly starter, sirloin steak and rhubarb and custard dessert and, like you, cleared every plate. Not somewhere I would normally think of going but definitely somewhere I'd go for a special occasion.
That's the second recommendation for his Manchester joint - it's going on the list !
It's actually located on a floor above a casino so take plenty of money 😂😂😂

Excellent review Greeno! The meal looked great! This video is the closest I will come to enjoying the Kitchen as it is quite out of my price range, plus I live in the States so its a bit far!

According to someone I spent some time with, who knew him well, he is just as he comes across on telly. A decent, solid bloke with no nonsense behaviour.

@@GreenoEats Aye mate, I was on holiday in Turkey a few years ago with my , very old, Auld Dear and we spent many a night in the company of another oldster and we happened to talk about cooking and I mentioned I watched James Martin on a Saturday morning. Turned out her son worked with him and she'd been in his company a few times and spoke glowinginly of him. The stories of his appreciation of his grandparents etc. was no TV bull. Straight up bloke she said.

It was a good portion, the pork chop was substantial, as was the veg portion. And plenty of butter used everywhere!!
Expensive yes. But that looked an amazing venue. The salmon looked so good. That pork chop was massive.

After a little research online; James did indeed grow up with pig and cattle farming. So you did indeed honour him with your choice of that beautiful pork chop with jus and those lovely extra elements. Top Drawer! 👌😊
Well I saw the salmon and I was impressed. The asparagus beautiful. My favourite meal is salmon and greens and new potatoes or roasted garlic and peppers. Beautiful looking chop. If you weigh your cooked potatoes and add the same amount in weight of butter then season it, then it should be beautiful like that. I can't remember where I heard that. It may have been the Two Fat Ladies. The colours of those vegetables was lovely and they looked so fresh. I could see you were really enjoying that. I would have chewed the bone. But not licked the plate. 😅😅. Presentation is excellent. What a treat. I thought the elderflower drink was quite pricey though. 👍
I guess the drinks prices are set to suit the general pricing strategy! The foor was really exceptional all round Denise. Your spud to butter ration there wounds about right to me :-)

Ive never said the word WOW out loud before watching one of your videos but that main course plate got me
I didn't really see a problem with the food. However, that price is an absolute rippoff ... I couldn't justify that if I tried. What I saw was good food, but nothing I would write home about .... Nothing wrong with the food as such, but these celebrity chefs are overrated and overpriced. ... Good video.
Of course you a pay a bit of a premium for the name - but what I experienced was special. A beautiful restaurant, great staff and service. Food cooked to the standards that the name above the door sets.
That all looked exceptional…. Very good sized courses and decent value in my opinion

I love hot smoked salmon and asparagus. That looked lush. Only thing missing was some quality brown bread and quality butter.
It was such a great starter - I winced at the £18 price tag initially, but after eating it I understood.
Passed this place many times last month travelling from Sopley to The Cliff House in Barton-on-Sea but sadly didn't know about The Kitchen or I'd have been straight on it....next visit it's a treat for er indoors 😁
Absolute top quality food and ambience for less than a tank of fuel , I'd personally call that value for money 👍

The elderflower drink looked terrific as did your salmon and asparagus salad. I would have been happy with that - which is why I’m not a restaurant critic. Great meal and as my granny would say :To hell with poverty!

It would of been nice when paying those prices if James Martin actually cooked it for you! But it looks like for a change a well known celebrity chef has taught the staff well! That all looked scrumptious, especially that dessert or sorry, pudding! Hope to win the lottery soon as that place is only a few miles from me, great video Greeno!
If you get the chance it's worth it. And if you want to see him, he does his cookery school once a month, and it's normally on a Monday (you can actually see on the website what dates that is!)
You're starter cost more than Deanos fish and chips in Whitby and he complained about that suprise suprise 😂😂😂😂

It's been great week of weather here Jessi - just a shame it wasn't like it during the summer. I did hear that much of central Europe had some very bad storms this week - was Germany also affected?

They were top end, but given the venue, the quality and the service I didn't come away feeling I had been done. It was truly excellent!

James Martin is renowned for his desserts & puds, & it looked like that one was really special. I love a pud! Thanks for all these brilliant reviews. My suggestion would be that you go for a mixed forkfull before analysing the ingredients separately; if it is not pleasing, then you can move onto finding why not. Probably this would not work with the YT algorithms (Boo - I hate attention keeping metrics and click bait), so you have my sympathy.
I like trying the individual things first, then working out which will make the best combinations :-)
Those prices are ridiculous, New York City prices.
It's top end, but in the grounds of a properly expensive spa hotel it's to be expected.

Met James Martin quite a few times - nice chap. They let you in through the front entrance - wearing a t-shirt I'm surprised they didnt direct you to the trade entrance while doing the walk of shame 😂
I went to Marco Pierre White restaurant years ago and his food was good, not too stingy either.the price was reasonable still on the high side but nothing way out there.
Ha ha - in spite of the price tag it's quite an informal restaurant, very relaxed.
@@GreenoEatsthat's good. Lol my Dad when courting my mum got refused entry to a posh hotel and restaurant in Scotland as he wasn't wearing a tie 😂 this was in the 70s. The fish dish is very similar to what I used to make back in my chefing days but did a tarragon butter emulsion sauce instead of a hollandaise sauce and used Sea Bass.

Well hello Greeno, way back in the early days of Gary Eats, I was forced to say" do not put a knife into your mouth ". OK was just the tip but NO!!! It's a nice gaff very elegant and expensive. Loved the glass of crushed ice, slice of lime and a straw, and only £7😂bargain. Hot Smoked Salmon looked amazing, why didn't you uncover the asparagus (move the fish?) and give as the full monty on the plate. Fresh Hollandaise 😊😊bonus. Now as a carnivore the Pork Chop brilliant choice. Mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables. However I'm not a lover of the la ponce sty style of dressing a dish. Deep fried bits of green not really needed. If serving the vegetables from a dish, should also have the potatoes the same way. (my personal choice) the squiggly piped. Naff. Gravy in a boat would be better. Perfect pudding 😊(diet starts tomorrow) I'm not sure the bill can be justified 😢all the elements at cost, and even if the staff are in the top 10 of earnings, still heavy. That said, you picked the restaurant and know the score 😊Enjoyed the video, as with most of your output. See you in the next exciting episode of Greeno Eats Allan&Family

The presentation was a little poncified - but I guess at those prices that's one of the things that helps elevate it. But the flavours and textures were phenomenal. Top end pricing, but worth it.

@@GreenoEats Same for me! I was making a point about cooking and food costs. I eat out on average 6 times a month. I never get takeaways.....Zoomers get takeaways 20 times a month. I really don`t like pizzas unless I am in Italy!

I'm glad you explained who James Martin is. Wouldn't watch itv if i was paid so I've never heard of him.
Also the "white gunk" you referred to in salmon is just the albumin that all salmon has solidifying if it's cooked too quickly. It's still perfectly edible and natural.
Maybe you missed him in the 10 years he did Saturday Kitchen on the BBC.
He's been on lots of other stuff too - very well known :-)
He also did Ready Steady Cook on BBC as well.

It all looked so delicious. I particularly loved the look of the vegetables. How do you think they were cooked? We see Jamie Oliver serving much the same as a side, but I haven’t seen him cook them💕🇨🇦
