How about the Dali LCR (Opticon/ Rubicon) on wall solutions? If I got this right, they are designed to reflect sound with a downwards firing opening at the back and they have a dedicated tweeter.

I have the Polk audio rc65 in my family room HT and rc85 for my basement HT and really like them. In both cases I use them for surrounds

Try the Paradigm in wall speakers. I have the ams300v3 for surrounds and the highs sound fantastic, mids and bass will depend on installation.

Would love to see how Dali Phantom in wall series - Def Tech RLS - Paradigm Pro in wall stand up against each other.

Aaron what about putting an in wall speaker in a large box and attaching it to the wall? I'm actually buying the exact KEF speaker you reviewed. I couldn't put the KEF's in wall because one wall is an exterior wall and the other wall has conduit running horizontally in the only spot the speaker can go. The reason I'm not just putting bookshelves (these are left / right surrounds) is because the couch is a bit too wide and doesn't allow for a walkway. With the in walls I'm boxes there is enough space

Probably not a good idea. #1 if you don't know the size to build the enclosure then you'll create very boomy bass. #2 I talked about the issue with on-wall speakers in this chat as well.

@@ErinsAudioCorner I ran that question by KEF, they provided specs that indicate how big the enclosures need to be. I’m in the process of building the boxes now, I’ll let you know how it goes.

@@arasandthevolodkas - did you end up building these boxes and if so what do you think of the results?

@@AaronEng I did, they look great. Simply stereo helped me fix one of the speakers cuz the screw snapped. When I installed them I didn’t get a chance to test them out to see how low they go, but as surrounds go they sound great. I’ll send a signal to just those
Speakers to see how low they go but if I recall during calibration they may have been auto set to 100 instead of 60 / 80 hz which I was surprised by because the in ceilings I built were recognized as being able to hit 80, whereas while in ceiling they got set to 120 (ci200rr)

Good discussion. I’m using inwalls (Goldenear Invisa SPS) for a living room system, and they sound great. Had the backer boxes, and they sounded awful with them, which surprised me. I think inwalls as surrounds are a great choice, since placing box speakers close to walls isn’t optimal.

Hey Mark, was looking at Goldenear Invisa as well, so did you then take the boxes off the speakers? are you still enjoying them? I am coming from Paradigm and torn if I just stay with Paradigm as I go from my monitors from years past to in walls.

      @@Whisperkill001
      Hi David:
Yes, without the boxes they sounded much much better. A lesson I learned with inwalls is positioning is important: I have a corner that juts out to the side of one of the speakers and I believe that compromised the sound somewhat. They’re best with a couple of feet of space on each side. What I’m considering is taking out the Invisa inwalls and acquiring a pair of the 800’s and mounting them in ceiling and aiming them at the listening position to solve the boundary issues. I love the Goldenear sound and imaging, and can highly recommend them. All the best in your installation!

I have a pair. I may consider selling them if I decide not to use them as surrounds in a dedicated basement build
