    I have the LCR as, well... My Left, Center and Right channels in my 7.2.4 setup, using the same surrounds and ceiling speakers you have. I bought them "open box" which brought the grand total to just under $200 per speaker (not including the subwoofers I already owned). I have to agree with you on their ability to produce super crisp and accurate high frequencies, when glass shatters in a movie it really shatters!!! The mid's on my set up are fantastic as well, and I've crossed all my speakers at 100Hz - with the exceptions of the LCR crossed at 80Hz. I was beyond impressed with the quality of components used in the crossovers, as well as the drivers.
    These are very good quality speakers. My home was built in the 60's so there is no insulation in the interior walls and honestly I feel like these speakers need that "cabinet" to resonate effectively. I also find they really shine at high volumes - mine sound great when pushed slightly above "movie listening levels" into "show off for your friends levels". My receiver is the Pioneer vsx-504 I bought new for about $500 in January 2020, its capable of decoding all channels but requires an additional amp to drive the rear surrounds in a full 7.2.4, which I just used a crown xli-800 ( I get dealer pricing so it was about $200).
    I used pioneers auto calibration and was pleased with how well it turned out. I plugged in my calibration set up and had to do only a few minor tweaks. My living room is twice as long as it is wide and has hardwood floors, open concept to the dining room/hallway, and lots of windows, so room treatment is at a minimum, I still need to find a wife approved solution.
    Anyway, great review, its too bad you're not as happy as I am with my setup - maybe try removing all that insulation??

    Nice review as always. I don’t think there’s much of a difference between less expensive in wall speaker options. Over the years and several homes...
    I did a complete 5.1 surround system in my last home with all my 5 speakers being of the in wall type. I had two 2 way 8” up front for left and right, a rectangular dual 5” for center and two 6” for rear surround. Overall sound was much better than I expected and I was very happy with it. My wife really liked it because there were no bulky speakers around. I did have a 10” powered sub, Which is a must. There’s just no way to get good deep bass from in wall speakers.
    On my current setup, I removed a decent Sony SSCS8 center channel speaker and custom mounted a in wall rectangular dual 5” speaker in the center of my media center. I was very surprised that the sound quality was much better than my boxy Sony center channel. The in wall speaker is barely noticeable and was less expensive than the Sony SSCS8. I’ve helped a few friends and family members with installations of in wall speakers of various makes, models and type. Overall quality and sound has been very good across the board. I do like the ones that have the +/- db switch. Good placement is key and watch out for studs and beams and other in wall obstructions.

      My friend put thick PVC pipes in the walls before he put up the drywall. He is able to run his wires through the PVC pipes so easily. He can change them out without any problems. Just thought I would mention it.

    Just a suggestion, I would flip your titles and start with the, “Are in wall speakers too good to be true” part and then put the line and name of the product afterwards. I bet a lot of more people would click that if they read that first rather than a video about a product they’ve never heard of. Just trying to help you with the TH-cam algorithm :)

    Polk Audio 65 RT In-walls. Cheers Mr. Osborne. I purchased the Costco Klipsch reference speakers that you recommended, however I forgot that my couch is against the wall! So I went to Crutchfield and purchased two Polk Audio 65 RTs. They are ported so they disperse the sound very well. Excellent quality. Also they are ON SALE $110 off each speaker right now!

    You should try RSL in-wall and in-celing speakers. They're not that much in cost and the sound quality is excellent.

    Just slowly going through all your videos since I found you, do you have any specifically aimed at turning a 1 car garage into a home theater? I'm going to be able to run speaker wires where ever, and even build the angled corner walls like you suggested. Just trying to figure out what kind of system I should run! Loving all your content though!

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for watching!!!
      And yeah, I think an in-wall/in-ceiling system might be a great solution for a one car garage space. That way you have plenty of room for nice seating and possibly aisles on either side. Maybe look into in-wall speakers that are THX Select 2 rated, since those are for medium-ish sized theater spaces.
      Only downside to an in-wall system is once you get it installed, it’s pretty labor-intensive to upgrade or switch out, since no 2 speakers are sized identically. So there might be drywall patching involved, etc. But if you had regular ol’ speakers, they’re easy to switch out or upgrade. Just something to consider. 😀🙌

    They look like coaxial car speakers in a plastic housing to me...if they sound good enough I'll give em a chance in my mancave and bedrooms but I doubt I'll ever replace my floor standing towers for in walls!...

    Great video. Some questions. I will also try and talk to Brian @ IWT this week
    Q1. What subwoofer were you testing with? I might consider the 4 unit ICBM offering from InWallTech for a sub solution, as it goes in wall and seems excellent for music.
    Q2. For a room with no defined listening position, would the HD650.1C be a better choice than an angled ceiling speaker
    Q3. The HD650.2W and HD650.1A is interesting especially as you are coming from Klipsch, which have ... well typically (imo) very bright crisp highs. How do these compare? Could they be considered somewhat timbre matched to Klipsch?
    Q4. Did you ever get the HD525.1LCR to test i.e. the ones with with two woofers, two tweeters and a mid; and if you did, were they noticeably better in the midrange?
    Thank you!

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) I was testing with the same little subwoofer that came with the Klipsch 5.1 system. I had nothing else at the time. 😄
      2) Yeah, I think having a tweeter you can angle in any particular direction would be beneficial in your situation.
      3) I think they are fairly bright like Klipsch, although I wasn’t totally impressed with their midrange. Not terrible, but just missing the mark.
      4) I did not get to test the 3-way LCR speakers. Definitely wish I could have. If you can swing it, I would opt for those, since you get dedicated drivers for highs, mids and mid-lows

    I have a former model home, speakers in every room and outside great for easy listening music when home shopping. But they are 4 2006 rectangles in the living room, I'd like to use them or their holes, what do I replace them with?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meaning there are 4 rectangle-shaped speakers already in the walls? Do they work? I mean, speakers are speakers, so if they sound decent to you, doesn’t really matter how old they are, getting newer ones might not be worth it in the end. But unfortunately, if you do want new speakers, there’s no standard size. 🙁
      So there are so many different sizes out there. You’d probably have to remove the existing speakers just to make sure of the size of the holes and check the sizes of other speakers you might want to purchase.
      But if you want to get speakers better than what’s already there, you’re probably looking at spending at least $300 per speaker to make any difference.

      I do this for a living. Origin Acoustics and MKSound dealer. Use 12G in-wall rated speaker cable if you can. Architectural speakers are great because you can make a room more multipurpose. 100hz? THX is 80hz. You have to play a lot with speakers and going up in price makes a difference. Get a 3-way so that you can reproduce better mid-range.
