Great review Eilis, the first of the ID7 I've seen. We have an ID3 and a Buzz so good to see how the ID line is improving. Hopefully v4.0 software will be rolled out to older ID models.
Awesome Eilis!!! I'm SO glad your doing another car review it feels like forever since you did the Megane e-Tech review. I know your main reviewer is also working for another channel or has switched to the other channel. I don't have time to watch your entire review right now, but will come back and finish it off, and this car may not arrive in Australia for a VERY long time but glad to see your back doing car reviews again. :)
In fairness to Tish, she had her own YT channel before joining Electroheads and does a great job on both. Eilis can’t be everywhere at once whilst running the company
@@bill_heywood She's not the CEO of the company. There are many others behind the scenes that are also working for the channel. I just prefer Eilis' reviews and am glad to see that she is back and doing the ID.7!
Of course I'm a subscriber with bells on, Eilis and team, thank you for making my birthday special (you didn't know that, did you ...) the only two things stopping me from getting another e-bike are the weather, the hills in Shrewsbury and the sad fact that most of them have a lower max rider weight. But I digress... Eilis, I really think that after many years, @matwatsoncars has finally met his match and some. Your performance as a car reviewer is stellar, the humour with the vehicle features, the scratchy ASMR (like on the Ioniq 5 test drive) ... I will not be surprised when Porsche calls you to loan you a Taycan as a daily. Which will come with a difficult decision -- can you be an automotive journalist on a bike? Fun fact, Mat Watson bought a GoCycle 3 years ago for £3000 ... ah, inflation ... (PS, it's another thing I really like about this channel, when something is too expensive, you call them out!)
So I compare this car to our BMW i4 and to Polestar 2 because of the German build (ok Polestar is Chinese), upscale demographic (for VW), and that massive rear hatch adding real practicality, especially if you fold those rear seats. What do others think? Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3 failed with sedan trunks.
I am a practical person and I feel like a hatch is a must for me. This definitely ticks that box but it doesn't mean everyone needs it. If it wasn't for the hatch, at the price I would consider a model 3 but not much else. eqe, eqs, i4 and i5 are too expensive, the ioniq 6 is also a good alternative but much less room....and there are not many other competitors in the sedan sector. So for me it's the best and I'll probably get it once the big battery version comes out
You people are my people. I got an i4 as well bcuz of the hatch. My next option was Model S. Ioniq 6 sure missed the mark here. This ID7 looks appealing but we shall see
7:10 You misinterpreted what they meant. By "scratchy" they didn't mean piano black, they meant textured hard plastics, higher quality materials will be softer and yielding and the materials on the dashboard and door tops are in fact quite soft in the ID.7.
I agree with you on that color, Eilis...it looks stunn9ing (though not as much as you!) and complements your beautiful self. ❤This looks very promising as well, though I wonder this: will the ID7 be available in the States and if so, what will the MSRP be for it here?
it is a high price but Nice. i think if and when Tesla or China comes out with a more affordable car or truck (under $28k ) we may see manufactures drop prices and way more folks dump gas cars . and Hi Eilis in Europe ⚡
A lot of potential here as a classy saloon with great range, and it’ll still be on my Shortlist, but I’m already marking it down a place or two due to VW’s launch price hike… and that could be ID7’s Achilles Heel against competitors!
Very very very badly. I actually look forward to charging my Model 3 on the rare times I need to. My previous car, a non Tesla was always like an impending nightmare.
It's good to see alternatives to Tesla with normal driver controls, indicator stalks and such like. Not sure about lane assist after I tried to swerve around a lorry tyre in the road and the car's "AI" tried to take over and drive me into it and make me crash and burn.
Ask yourself this, are you going to buy the ID7 which is styled on the ID4 which is not selling that well or are you going to buy the Skoda Enyaq Coupe which as you will see is a derivative of the very successful Enyaq Crossover. Both vehicles have the same underpinnings but one looks like a jelly bowl and the other looks mean and exciting. You choose.
Zzzzzz....bigger car with a bigger battery with prices heading further north. Bring the affordable ID.2 before going bust VW, that would be a better plan for the masses
@@bill_heywoodthe e-c3 is not out yet either. Will jave to wait for spring 2024. Sure, the demand is there, but most of the car manufacturers are just not there yet.
@@Marco-ce8kr what actual benefit is there? When the ID3 was launched some people noted the additional cost of the heat pump would take a very long time to be repaid with energy 'saved'! (I have an EV with a heat pump - but there aren't any versions sold without!)
@@FFVoyager The point is efficiency rather than savings. The more efficient is the car, the less battery you need. And a big battery is not just expansive, it is also heavy and takes longer to be charged.
Sorry, but those range figures 385mile/77kWh are the best city test cycle numbers and should be quoted as such . Combined cycle figures would be of more relevance.
There is absolutely no way that it will do over 5 miler per kW! The Volkswagen diesel gate cogs are still in motion. There's no way it will be more efficient than my model 3. I get on average 4.3. If the VW manages to get near 4 (extremely doubtful) it'd do 300 on a good day.
@@PedalPowerPantherIt’s more an issue with WLTP being fit for purpose. EPA (275 miles) seems to align better with my experience of the big battery ID.4 (around 3.6 in the summer and 3 in the winter). I guesstimate the ID.7 will achieve a real world range of somewhere in the region of 330-340 miles summer, and 280-290 miles winter. We’ll see next year when they start to be delivered.
How would you measure that? Purchase price, cost to charge and run or panel fit and the number of niggling faults that shouldn't exist with a new vehicle? 🤔
I thought your demographic was people who are over expensive EVs with massive production impact, but who instead understand that e-bikes and micromobility is the right way to go. JK, congrats on the expansion of your work, but I hope you can stay focused on Active Transportation.
Ha yes that is definitely the case! But we can't ignore those who do need an electric car for long distance travel (who also have a sizeable wallet?!?!). Active transport is our number 1 priority 😉
While it's important to know battery size, charge rate and range, we need more data and results from the real world, revealing the conditions you drive under. I have a BYD that boasts 480 kms of range but, as you can see by my road trip video, it wasn't safe to go 320 kms. Around town it falls short by 80 kms and you can wipe off another 80 kms when the speeds are over 100 kph. You say that one does 600 kms (smaller battery model)? I would like you to get it back and drive on the highways until it's almost out of charge, and tell us how far shy of 600 it was? You could have used the trip computer; worked out the efficiency and projected range and told us your average speed. That would have improved the information greatly, even if you couldn't tour it. Charging speed were also overstated by a country mile on the BYD, and real-world charging speeds should be given for all test drives. I hope that helps for future reports? BTW, VW is really dragging the chain in Aus - they don't expect to bring out any EV until the end of 2024.
@@FFVoyager Good question. I used to tour my Citroen C5, and it would estimate under 900 kms when the tank was filled, due to all the town driving prior. As I headed south, by the time I got to Tweed Heads, about 100 kms away, it would stop climbing and read 1,400 kms of range. Then it would go down from there, and only do 1,300 of that, but it had already done that 100 while increasing the readout. I estimate my BYD in four charges and less than that same distance would have estimated over 1,900 kms of range and done under 1,300. I used to fill up once in about five minutes and get to Melbourne in just under 20 hours. The BYD took 36. Need anything else cleared up?
