- Daenerys may have left Meereen at the end of A Dance with Dragons, but the battle of fire isn’t waiting for anyone - it’s about to go down on the opening pages of The WInds of Winter. Barristan, Tyrion, Jorah and Penny, the Unsullied, and the newly-arrived Ironborn fleet are about to do battle with the armies of the slave cities of Essos, and we’ll set the stage for the carnage to come.

I think Tyrion's greatest way to show his worth is the intimate knowledge of the current political structure of Westeros, the Lannister's in particular, and the knowledge that Aegon exists and is coming to Westeros before Danny (don't remember if he knows about the Golden Company), which is vital information she doesn't have. This fact probably will help speed the plot along so Danny moves on from Meereen.
I too would like to see a Daario rampage. I'd rather see him die raging in battle than just get dumped and take it like a chump. I don't think he's going to be Dany's endgame but he too deserved better than HBO's treatment of him
Excellent video! One thing came to mind while you were discussing politics is that I think Tyrion is going to be immediately suspicious of the Green Grace. I think she may remind him of Cersei (and he has hang ups about powerful women who wear green lol), or she might bring Olenna to mind for him and make him wonder about her role in Joffrey’s death. Either way, I think she’s going to ping his suspicion radar in a way she didn’t for Dany because of Tyrion’s experiences with Cersei and his still deeply rooted misogyny toward powerful women. Tyrion would absolutely hear “the sons of the Harpy” and think “the harpy must be a woman because all women are harpies.” Can’t wait for the next video!
interesting! What is your take on the Green grace - is she in league with the Sons of the Harpy or no?
@@DavidLightbringer IMO the Green Grace IS the Harpy (though obviously not for any misogynistic reasons!) - I missed it on my first read through but on subsequent re-reads the clues jumped right out at me and I was amazed I didn't spot it before. In particular, the passages involving the child hostages Dany refuses to kill are very revealing, but there are many more hints throughout the Meereen chapters. I don't understand why lots of people think the Meereen chapters are boring - all the plots and politics going on are masterfully written and very rewarding on re-reads.
P.S. Loving this series, just doing some catching up! Not sure how you guys manage a video a day, as I haven't even managed to watch them all!
@Ba'al the Bard 100% agree with this. Tyrion is going to see through a lot of shenanigans that Barristan & Co are simply not equipped to when he joins Dany's court. My personal theory is that Tyrion won't be Dany's Hand, but rather will be made her fool when he swears allegiance to her. A Mushroom mk2, if you will :D

I see them interacting with fAegon after he replaces Cersei in KL, for sure. If the R'hllorists ever get to Westeros we could really see some shit between those 2 groups of fanatics

You do narration better than anyone I have ever heard for ASOIAF
Melisandre is a shadowbinder from Ashai. The guy with VIc isn't. He's a red priest on a mission for his superiors. It's not even clear why Mel is with Stannis or in Westeros. Thoros, the other red priest we see is also in Westeros on orders. As far as Vic, he'd see Tyrion, who is a dwarf, as someone who should've been drowned at birth. Moquorro, knowing Tyrion, is a wild card as far as that relationship goes. He'd at least respect Barristan and Jorah for being warriors. Tyrion being the exiled rightful Lord of Casterly Rock, his being there with Jorah, who you don't mention and is probably as important Barristan, etc., Tyrions influence over the Second Sons, suppose Barristan will at least hear him out but don't know if he will have that much influence with Barristan, who will likely want to defer any decisions till Dany returns. Everyone in Danys court is a wild card, so is the fleet from Volantis. Do think that the dragon horn was meant to be a poisoned gift to Vic from Euron but don't think that Euron anticipated Vic meeting the Red Priest. Then of course Tyrion has news of Aegon, what was it, Kraken and Dark Flame(VIc&Moquorro), Lion and Griffin(Tyrion&Connington), Suns Son(Quentyn), the Mummerers Dragon(Aegon?). It could be Connington Varys and/or Aegon sent some sort of message towards Mereen before they left Volantis. Then you have Marwyn coming. Marwyn also believed that the CItadel would also send emissaries who would try to kill Danys. Yes there is a lot of interesting stuff that could happen but like the show Dany is probably going off on some sort of interlude with the Dothraki, which might play out differently. Hopefully she doesn't go to Vaes Dothrak.
That part with barristan getting ready to attack got me fucking amped!!!

Perhaps Stygai & the Shadow can be looked at through the Glass Candle as well.
Question: Moqorro is a Red priest, serving the Lord of LIGHT. When he symbolises Tyrion as casting a SHADOW, does that sound antagonistic?
Shadows are sacred to the red priests, they are created by the light.
Also R'hllor is called the god of the flame and the shadow.

@@rushnafwadud Without light there are no shadows... And the gods you mentioned are related with the Long Night, even the Five Forts are suposed to protect Yi Ti from the demons of the Lion of Night.

I'm not sure the Ironborn fleet will be the one to take Daenerys home. At least not *just* the Ironborn fleet. Remember that Volantis reportedly sent their ships to Slaver's Bay as well, and from Tyrion's time there we know that the slaves outnumber the nobles around 10 to 1 I believe and more importantly they all worship Dany as their savior. Well, who do you think are captaining those warships? If you ask me I think a slave revolt definitely seems to be in the cards, with a large part of the Volantene fleet going over to Dany as well. She will need all the ships she can get after all if she is going to recruit a bunch of Dothraki at Vaes Dothrak.
It's kind of foreshadowed by the slave revolt that led to the genesis of Bravos, so it would be tasty indeed if a Valyrian was the cause of a slave ship-revolt, but in an opposite manner.
I don't think dany will go all the way to vaes dothrak i think she will control that small khalasaar that rode up on her i think she will have 20,000 screamers
I would argue that Tyrion didn't sway the Second Sons. The release of the dragons is what swayed them. Brown Ben Plumm was very straigthforward in his disagreement of keeping the dragons chained, and that was the reason he defected. Also if anyone swayed them it's Mormont (Preston). He has raport with Dany and the Second Sons, while Tyrion is just a Lanister hostage that plays chess.... I mean cyvasse well.
But there is one thing that Tyrion knows that is of grave importance (except the dragon-lore) for Dany that people seem to forget.
Tyrion is one of the very few people that knows about Aegon Blackf....erm Targaryaen. Meanwhile in KL they still think the Stormland invasion is just a family feud of Red "Herring" Conningtons and Stepstonian pirates.

I still have a difficult time hoping that " The Winds of Winter" will ever be published.
Out of all the coming conflicts (Euron at Oldtown, fAegon at Storm's End, Stannis in the North and Barristan in Meereen) the Battle of Fire is probably the one I'm looking forward to the least. That being said, you guys did a great job in hyping up this battle, especially the dynamic between Barristan, Tyrion and Victarion is something I had never really thought about. Can't wait to hear more about all the other storylines from you two. Anyone that keeps the TWOW hype going in 2020 is a winner in my book!
Definitely a testament to George that he writes political intrigue and fantasy so well that the battle that has *dragons* mincing around the sky going ham is the one that people could be *less* interested and enthused for. I, for one, agree with everything you said.
I mean, I wouldn’t say Barristan is the one to look out for with Victarion.
In the fighter pit, a bear and a bull fight. Jorah is commonly called a bear, Victarion is commonly called a bull.
With how GRRM writes, there’s a decent chance it’s Jorah who will come to blows with Victarion, most likely being because Jorah will be impulsive due to emotions.
The next 23 days should be a real treat. You guys are doing good work.

Ive listened to the Barristan excerpts dozens of times. I cannot wait to read his ultimate fate. Even if he dies in the battle, it will be a better death than they gave him than that weak ass mess in the show

But why? In the books Daario seems to genuinely love Deanerys. Why betray her to join the slavers? What would he gain? Mind you, at the moment he possess NOTHING of value. He is hostage, his sellsword company is commanded by others, whom wouldn't be too happy to see their boss again.
He can give slavers nothing except for some information they propably already have from their allies in the city. Why would they even propose him anything?

I think that Dany has not left the battle of Mereen. Remember that she succeeded reaching the Dothraki army together with Drogon, therefore I think that she will negotiate the allegiance with them from a stronger position!
We will see an enormous war of liberation in the next book
She still has to secure an alliance AND get them to Mereen. That’s going to take a while so who knows if the Dothraki make it in time to fight in this battle.

You and Preston Jacobs should collaborate on future battles. He’s also done an analysis on most of the major battles (The Battle of Blood and the Battle of Steel are two of my personal favorites) that are well-thought-out and interesting to hear about.

Ser Barristan the Bold is amazing!! Since the killed him they should have at least gave a nod to him in the finally season when Dany was questioning Ser Jaime. Like “ Ser Barristan told me how the mad king, my father earn his name and also how you earned yours kingslayer, what we he council me to do with you?” Might have given her some credibility with the North. Everybody respected Ser Barristan even the northerners that don’t have knights.

The Ironborn are badass. Yes they are chauvanistic savages but sailing such a large distance with longships and then making the Yunkai shit themselves. They do have some reedimg qualities.
And it gives Stannis an even more incredible military record having led the only command of a victory *against* the Ironborn - at sea. They're both pretty badass.
Remember there gonna have to fight the volantis fleet that yunkai and sell sword are waiting on

Dragonbinder is blown, Viserion is drawn to it, mesmerised by it, then he turns and flies away off to the west. A few hundred pages later and Viserion shows up in Westeros, he lands before Euron Greyjoy and bows to his new master.
Dragons don’t bow and also it’s so weird how you want to take this lady’s dragon
Tyrion probably does have the skills to solve Dany's problems in Meereen... but beyond proving his value and loyalty, why would he want to do that? It would arguably be more in his interest to do the opposite -- make it seem utterly hopeless for her to hold the city, at the same time as he reveals to her that Aegon has gone to Westeros.
From a narrative perspective, Dany is already out of Meereen, probably headed to Vaes Dothrak, and presumably due to visit Volantis, Pentos and possibly Braavos on her way to Westeros. I really don't see the next book devoting any time to her re-establishing herself in Meereen only to promptly leave. I imagine Tyrion would encourage her to set up a locally respected puppet ruler who can be trusted to keep slavery illegal in her absence.

After just finishing doing a Feast with Dragons readthrough I have to ask: how could anyone think Dany would burn King’s Landing? Her Mereen storyline is logical and compassionate to a fault.
Sooo... Call me cynical but I always thought that Moquorro (spelling) was just telling Vic. What he wanted to hear. It's vague and plays to his insecurities and Vanity. So of course he's drink it up.
Also while we the readers may like Tyrion no one in Slavers Bay should like him. He has military intelligence on KL but Barristan also knows that city well. Him giving up info on Casterly Rock is about all he's good for. If Danny takes the 2nd sons back it'll be because of Jorrah as she repeatedly misses him and think of him in the Dothraki Sea. Also we know that the Ironborn treat weakness with contempt why in the world would Vic. Tolerate Tyrion?
Not to mention even if Battistan isn't betrayed by the Brasen Beasts he can't just add all these others to the Counsel with that much foreign influence on the Rule. All hell would break loose.

Wisdom Manari' Oh 100% Moqorro is manipulating him to get to Dany. Still Victarions charred hand is pretty cool can’t wait to see him in battle.
I don't see Barristan Selmy surviving long after the battle. My guess is that he is going to lead a successful attack against the slavers, then come back and see that the Shavepate has murdered all of the hostages and Hizdahr. He will likely try to execute Shavepate and be killed by his soldiers. That is my guess anyway.
Low hanging fruit. I think he’ll at least see Dany return. The whole shavepate thing seems too easy with how many people believing what you jist wrote

I may have missed it in the video, but do these 20 videos comprise the whole playlist for your and LML's Winds of Winter Predictions? I've been waiting to basically gorge myself on all of them in one pass. Keep up the great work! Sending love from North Carolina!
What I'm wondering is if the various Dany teams will be able to unite. Tyrion has brought Brown Ben and his force to Dany's side, but it's been noted repeatedly that Daario HATES Ben and will try to murder him on sight. Barristan won't trust Tyrion or Victarion due to his knowledge and experience with Lannisters and Greyjoys. If Tyrion mentions that he's kinslayer and claim to be a kingslayer Barristan will not trust him or want him involved with Dany's government. I do see what you're saying about a possible grudging respect between Barristan and Victarion, but if he mentions how he or his brother is going to marry Dany and take control of her dragons, I'm not sure he will want Victarion to remain either. I can see a grudging alliance between those two. The only way Tyrion can force his way into an alliance would be if he claimed Viserion.

@@DavidLightbringer I think Tyrion's political knowledge makes him invaluable. But I'm not a character in the books. The question is if the other characters feel that way. Will Barristan see that? Or will he see him as a Lannister, hear his sassy belligerence where he admits to being a kinslayer, and connect him to triple-time turncloak Brown Ben and completely bar Tyrion from power? I guess I just see a lot of barriers to these men uniting easily.
Tyrion also has great skills in manipulating people and situations to benefit himself it’s what he did in the vale, kings landing, and again with the slavers we also know that Barristan is one of the best warriors and war commander but not all that great when it comes to playing politics and people

Not long ago. I guess because he talks about alot of different things and not just asoiaf he decided to change his name.

A Dance With Dragons became my second favourite book in the series thanks to Victarion and he became my favourite charter of that book his chapters where a great new perspective and his story was phenomenal in my opinion and I was heartbroken when he was cut out of the show and the made that bastardised mash up of Euron and Victarion.

I haven’t come across anyone who has realized Danny’s campaign is playing out similar to the basic steps of the start of the Valyrian empire. Fighting 5 wars with the empire of Ghis. By the time Danny finishes in slavers bay it looks as if she will fight 5 battles/ wars.
1. Astapor
2. Yunkai
3. Taking Meereen
4. The siege of Meereen by Yunkai and allies (New Ghis, Tolos, Sellswords)
5. After her return, the Volantene fleet
So I have a theory I don’t think it’s popular or likely but it’s something. I think that when the dragons horn is blown the two dragons will go to Dany in the Dothraki sea. I know this has way to many holes but I personally think it’s likely and it gives the dragons some armor. That would be a great scene Dany with all three dragons and the Dothraki rolling up to Meereen. Let me know what you guys think.
I think it's possible..... We're constantly told over and over that a dragon is not a slave so the idea that a dragon would bind it self to Victoreon or Euron once the horn is blown is a bit rediculous to me....
Dragon party! Tyrion will have to come up to speed with the language and culture in Meereen. But that shouldn't be hard for someone as clever as he is.

The only 'good' thing from that scene was that we could finally see him in action - he killed like 24 bad guys there. Still...a shitty end for a great character cause Dumb and Dumber didn't know what to do with him :(

Hard to tell honestly. They could just let him live and stay back in Meereen instead killing him (heroic death but still a death).

Alll nice but this psychedelic background sound while reading is creepy and is nothing like in style to game of thrones. I would imagine this sound at lovecraft or dune but nut asoiaf
People always assume Dany will react positively to Tyrion ....
Like Jorah brings her a Kingslaying (as far as she knows) and Kinslaying dwarf of Lannister... and people expect her to be in awe of his genius and immediately. Or maybe after he displays his cleverness in some way, they expect her to give him the position of arguably the second most powerful person in the world (the dragon queen's hand).
Maybe she'll end up meeting him, but I highly doubt that she would ever trust Tyrion enough to take any of his advice or place much value in his knowledge.
She has Marwyn the Mage coming to her anyways. Also, she doesn't need Tyrion's help for literally anything. He definitely needs her though, if he ever wants to live in Westeros again...
people talk about other people riding dany's dragons. but im thinking the dragons might lay new eggs. snakes reach sexual maturity in 1-2 years. also larger lizards reach it in 3-4 years , with small lizards 1-2

Kris B I am def not a believer in it. The timelines don’t add up. He’s prisoner supposedly with the yunkish now and euron is in the redwyne straits. And he’s been with Dany since Yunkai. It’s after yunkai he appears in Westeros. I know you can imagine lots of back and forth but it just seems so unnecessary besides being a huge stretch. Also, no crows eye and smiling eye. It’s possible euron can work a glamour. But again, assuming stuff.
Euron May have been the Corsair king.
And I do buy the idea I first heard from Preston that euron is warging the dusky woman. He’s def a few steps ahead of Victarion.
