For those who don't have much time...
1.Sourdough is one of the best due to fermentation
    2. Pumpernickel is just as good as sourdough plus is high in fiber
    3. Ezekiel or "sprouted" breads rather than flour breads
    4. Flax and Chia - but watch the carb/fat content
    5. Other low-carb, keto breads - brands like Sola, SaraLee Delightful Multigrain, Aunt Millies Live Carb Smart, Joseph's Lavash (flat, wrap, pita) Bread, and lastly Kiss My Keto. Some of these are available in stores but mostly online.
Also, as a diabetic I've found that Rye bread and other Rye derivatives (marble Rye, Jewish Rye, seeded and seedless Rye) also have lower net carbs and higher fiber content than standard breads, but he didn't mention these.
    *NO WHITE BREAD OR BAGELS
    You're welcome!

18 BC? The Egyptians were very skilled at making beer and bread in 3000 BC. It's the foam off of fermenting beer that was the yeast source for bread in Bible times. Sourdough was and is made from a starter. Casting out the leaven was a good way of cleaning up old and maybe bad toxic fermentations, aka spring cleaning.

TRULY GRATEFUL for your willingness to address healthy breads. So tired of everyone saying all grains are bad. I am pre-diabetic and I grind my own bread and eat in moderation; I soak my grains before making the bread to ferment it; I grind beans and lentils too, and mix it in w/ pizza dough and pancake recipes. Also freeze my bread after cooking to increase resistive starches. There are ways to work some grain into your life with moderation.

Another option is baking bread, which carbs and fiber can be controlled based on the flour used. I love sourdough bread but still have to be careful with the commercial ones. Some are very high in carbs. I found a bread at Aldi's. Simply Nature "Knock your sprouts off." 13 g carbs, 2g fiber, 9 g protein, dairy, egg free and reduced sodium.
One of the best options for me has always been flat breads. I found roti at an Indian market-2 pieces is 15 carbs but I only use 1. Also a tortilla at Trader Joe's called Carb Saavy which has 9 Carbs for 1.

Prior to watching this video, my husband was searching for bread options that would fit into a doctor-guided diet to lose weight (and help his diabetes). We live in an area with a shortage of healthier and trendy foods. In searching for store bought bread with low net carbs, my spouse first found tortillas that had labels advertising a lower carb value (I have none at hand to provide the numbers); some of them have whole wheat versions, which we find tastier. The brands vary and so do the numbers, but they fit his diet recommendation: Mission, La Banderita (and another label made by the same company), and Tumaro's. They worked well for wraps, and we even eat them as an accompaniment to other meals. I found I can lightly toast a tortilla in a skillet with a swipe of oil. In the fluffier conventional breads, so far we found Arnold Superior Keto bread. It has 11g total carbs and 8g dietary fiber, per slice. It tastes rather neutral. It toasts in a conventional toaster, but slowly due to 0g total sugars (let's all remember 0g per serving does not mean none).

When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I went through a lot of different breads and found that the only bread that didn't spike my glucose was Natures Own Honey Wheat. I also found that the cheap brand wheat breads are usually just white bread with caramel coloring and will make you spike quickly. Now I know everyones system works different and this is just my experience. As for thr bread you've recomended, I live in Northwest Florida, and havent seen those particular bread brands.

I would like to try Keto but don’t know how to go about it

    • @buddyringo21
      @buddyringo21 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tonyapurvis2683 keto is short for your body going into a state of “ ketosis “ where your cells switch from burning glucose for energy to burning fat to produce ketones for energy. This process is a forced process requiring a no sugar , very low carbohydrate and high natural fat diet along with intermittent fasting. The intermittent fasting is what really works the magic and the high fat diet gives you the cell energy to handle it. A keto diet isn’t fun but for a person that needs this kind of health reversal it can save your life as in my case I believe it has.
Search TH-cam for related videos and watch a bunch and take notes. Information is power and is key to success. “Dr Berg “ , “ Dr Ekberg “ along with “Lowcarb down under “ have been a blessing in helping me understand how this works and how my body works, they make complicated stuff easy to understand.
Just getting away from sugar, processed foods and all oils except olive oil, coconut oil and avocado oil along with intermittent fasting,
These alone can make huge improvements in your health .
The biggest challenge of a keto diet is staying in that state of “ ketosis “ , eat too many carbohydrates or sugar and your body tries to switch back causing headaches ( like a hangover) and crappy feeling. But while in ketosis your body and mind run so well and no sugar highs n lows at all , just a steady flow of energy.
I hope this helps or at least encourages you to seek more information as I did and continue to do.
      😁

Thanks. I stopped using bread. I make my sandwich with a lettuce wrap, which is quite good. Or I just cook meat and eat it plain, or meat chopped up and made into a salad to be eaten that way. I do miss bread with pinto beans as I love to dip it in the bean juice. My husband is a former cook and he has experimented with dishes like taco/burrito meats that he has changed ingredients to very low or no carb substitutes. They taste good. Left overs are good heated and made into a sandwich but alas I can now only do this now as a sandwich. Since he does almost all the shopping now I will have him watch this video. He has a constant complaint that I do not eat well. I tell him I am fine but he looks at what is in my child sized bowl and what I often leave, adjusting portions all the time, and thinks I'm starving. He was recently happy when he crushed chicharrones, added a bit of almond flour, and breaded fish with it and cooked it in olive oil. It was delicious. Now he said he will use this for chicken strips. I do have to make him understand that I refuse to undo all the work I have done in losing weight. I just hit a weight of 128.8, a BMI of just under 25. Best weight would be 108. I am under 5'2". Husband said I am disappearing. It's what I need to hear.

The Finnish Rye Bread is amazing. It does not affect at all my blood sugar level. I was diagnosed with diabetes after I started baking TH-cam recipes. For a person who never baked anything I felt like a chef. Unfortunately the sudden increase in my intake of flour and sugar pushed my blood sugar over the limit. I am now able to control my blood sugar level with NO MEDICATION just by changing my diet and lifestyle. NO MORE PASTA OR RICE or any other type of carbs. I eat a lot of beans, chickpeas, lentils, salad and sometime fish. I have 2 secret ingredients that helped me to fight diabetes without any medication: ALMONDS & FINNISH REAL RYE BREAD. Not all rye breads are real. I also walk 1 hour a day and that effects my blood sugar by 2 points. Instead of 5.7 I will go down to 4.6. You can eat extremely well without touching to flour and sugar. I sometime have a craving for a good croissant but I can survive without it.

One suggestion that I learned from weight watchers years ago - I always carry a container when I eat out for portion control. I take a lot of food home to eat for 2-3 more meals. I put it in a container before I eat = stops mindless eating. I am learning a lot from you. I ordered the ADA low Carbohydrate guide. Jeanne retired RN

If I'm really craving bread, I make a few muffins using almond flour and egg, or make a couple of chaffles (cheese and egg mixture in a waffle maker). I'm diabetic, which I control solely with diet and exercise, so I've pretty much lost my taste for wheat. The chaffles and almond flour bread are nice substitutes.

      1 egg
      3 T almond flour or 1 T coconut flour
      1/2 t baking powder
(any spices you want - garlic bread, yummy!)
This makes 1 square in a 5 inch glass dish. Then you can slice it horizontally for 2 slices.

I've baked my own bread for over 5 decades now. I eventually bought a vita-mix to grind my own grains, nuts and seeds for baking bread. I've experimented with lots of different grains, from organic wheat berries to oats, rice, barley, rye, etc., lots of different nuts and seeds and plenty of other additives like dry whey protein, wheat bran, flax, dried milk, dried and powdered vegetables and even cooked and mashed beans. Bread is easy to make and doesn't take very long. Sourdough is the easiest, it just takes a few minutes a day until it's finally baked. My favorite part is being able to use ingredients to make it as healthy or decadent as I want.

I am a Type 2 diabetic, with allergies to dairy and celiac. I find it difficult to find healthy food which has low sugar and GF/DF. I would love it if you could have an entire show for people like myself. Also, what are the best. Vitamins for diabetes. Thank you!!

Having had surgery for bowel cancer and now have a stoma, I was told by my Stoma Nurse to eat bread at the start of the day to keep the product from the stoma the right consistency (sorry if this sounds gross, but it is what I live with). I was diabetic before the surgery and pointed this out to the nurse and was told I really needed to eat some bread. I struggled with my blood sugar post operation, I was told that this was normal for such a trauma, but the struggle lasted several years. I am now able to control my blood sugars within a reasonable range and manage to eat sourdough bread in the morning without too much of a spike. I am not sure if this is the experience of other diabetics with stoma’s, it is a struggle and would be interesting to hear other people’s experience.

I had my colon removed and had a stomach as well. I was told to use Metamucil for a firmer consistency. I have since had the procedure reversed. I sometimes think I made a mistake….

@@Hollyrock712 Thank you for that information, I will discuss it with my Stoma Nurse. I have not had a great deal of input from them, probably because I haven’t reported any problems over the last six years since my surgery. Unfortunately I can’t have a reversal as the whole works, from the small intestine to the anus, was removed. It’s a balancing act all the time and I seem to do a lot of testing to keep a check on my blood sugar (sore fingers!). I have lost weight and gotten an exercise bike, so I can hopefully keep the levels constant.

@@Spacewolfdad I’m sorry your going through all this. It’s very discouraging, I know.
As far as me having it reversed, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Unfortunately, the problem is now if I eat something, I have to make a BM right after. So this makes it very difficult for me travel a long distance in my car , or if I’m riding my bike.
I have adjusted to it by changing my eating habits.
You might want to try the Atkins diet. It’s a low sugar, and low carb diet.
      Good luck.

There are some great protein breads and wraps. Tough part is finding stuff without vegetable oil.
