Great compare/contrast video! I’ve owned a few bikes including a 2018 MT09. I had the same goofy laughter and smiling from ear to ear while riding it. Sold it 3 years later, solely due to my legs feeling cramped. I’m 6’, not particularly tall. Bought the Tenere, and it has been the best “overall” & “do it all” motorcycle I’ve ever owned. I hope you’re happy with it. I absolutely love mine!
Not underpowered, more sensible and usable perhaps? The mt09 is crazy, but how often can I use that power ? In the end I want the ergonomics and comfort of the Tenere way more 👍
This was a really good video. I have watched numerous TH-cam videos of all the bikes that you rode, and your back to back comparisons were very helpful. (I bought a Tracer 9 GT+).
Been riding dirt bikes since i was 4 years old am 45 yo now Got to ride my mates Tenere last week and loved it so much. I dont think you will regret it at all and if you want adventure and long trips its nice to be able to ride off road if you want. Perfect bike Enjoy my man Peace from New Zealand
Thank you, mate! 🙏 Glad you liked it. There has been some spirited dialogue in the comments, people get really invested in which bike is better 😁 I'm gonna keep stoking this fire haha 😆
Nice video and comparison, recently I rest rode the new Honda Transalp 750 and man it was fun ! I love the Tenere but I think is more off road oriented than for long distance riding ! I’m sure you’ll choose the best one for you, greetings from Greece!
Thank you! 🙏 Glad you liked it 😊 Yes, the Tenere is maybe a bit more all-round and can do many things pretty good, not the ultimate long distance machine. That's exactly what I need, variety 👍
this is what youtube should be, real people with real, honest advice and information, bigger channels just do marketing and ads with zero value for customers now... as a suggestion you should mention your height and dimensions in the clip, i found them in comments though so its all good.. great video, thank you!
Thank you for the kind words! 🙏😊👍 Yes, the height is very relevant to my findings. 💯 I should have mentioned it in the vid. 😌 (And yes, it bothers me too, when TH-camrs become pure advertising outlets. I guess it pays the bills?)
I really liked this video! I currently own an z650 restricted to a2. And always thinking about an upgrade but i really dont know what i want in a bike, so this video really helps from someone with a normal perspective. And everyone saying get this or that.
I think tenere with wider seat would be good. The extreme has narrow enduro seat. Have you tried r1200gs. Or any gs. They have very good leg room. Wide seat. Great wind protection and expecially the water cooled ones are fast too. And no chain hassle. On long trips chain maintenance is so annoying.
@@TalkTheRideyep me too. I have 2010 gs. And even those are close to 10k in Finland. And you can get 700 Base tenere for 13900e . Which I have been thinking to get. Just for the less weight and more playfullness. Gs is just so damn good for big roads with three hard panniers. But it's heavy.
Yeah, the weight is a bit much, too. I do prefer my bike light. It even bugs me when I put a camera at the back hehe. Have you tried any of the Teneres?
Have you considered the vmax. A cruiser will keep your legs in a more straight position, or maybe try a tmax good seat and good leg room. Hope you find your dream bike.
Thanks for the comparo... I have an old school KLR (07)... I am 6' and 250lb... I have thought about the XSR but wasn't sure about the size... Thinking I would have a street bike in the XSR 700 and keeping my KLR for trails and longer trips... Or possibly, replacing my KLR (which I am apprehensive about, 'cause off-road you are just in-between drops) with either the World Raid or the Extreme Teneré... So, I thank you for your thoughts on them. Coming from the Kawi, I am upgrading power either way.... So, the World Raid being a bit heavier won't be a thing, for me... The fuel capacity will be similar, though. But, I like that extra room info, concerning the Extreme. Haven't heard that from reviews before. I though the Extreme had the same suspension as the World Raid; but, maybe I am wrong. Thanks, again
Hey, glad you liked the video! 👍 The difference in height may be down to the seat, actually. I also think the suspension is the same. But the feel and legroom was very different. If you can, try both and see for youself👍
Thanks for the video! I wonder what would you say about the Versys 1000, I haven't tried it (yet), only the 650, but it might ticks all on your list. Or maybe one of the Triumph triples?
Thanks, glad you liked it! 👍 I'm 1.86m (6'1) and about 120 kg. Not sure my inseam, but I have long thighs hehe. But it's also an age thing and general fitness. If you're young and in shape you might come to very different conclusions 👍
If you want a long distance touring bike, and for some reason it has to be Yamaha, then you should give the Super Tenere 1200 a go. It's a big fat battleship but super comfortable and rock solid. (They stopped selling it in the EU end of 2021, but since Norway isn't in the EU you might still get it new.) However, other manufacturers also build great bikes that may be more suitable for your needs. Check out the three sizes of Suzuki's V-Strom; the 800 might be right up your alley.
I'm not looking for a long distance touring bike, no. I'm just looking for something a little more comfortable than my xsr700. I love all aspects of it, except for the ergonomics and size. The Tenere Extreme is exactly what I want 👍
Suzuki GSX 8R solved my seating woes . It's a more stretched out position where I don't get hip cramp any more. Super torquey engine for similar capacity. 8R is worth a test.
Big CC bikes normally come with better equipment, but the most important, you don't have to twist the throttle to much to move around. Having big CC and proper suspensions to hold up big guys, it is another world.
Big CC is taxed here in Norway, those bikes become luxury items, not machines for riding. The Tenere Extreme has a beefed up suspension, perfect for big guys, is light and fun to ride, and affordable. 👍You should try one!
Great comparison and fun to hear your enthousiasm. This is how I do my testrides. Soo much fun to have the opportunity to try these bikes. Very good dealer to offer you this testing out several types of Yamaha's. Gives you much confidence in the dealer. Are you satisfied with your choice?
Glad you liked it! I love making these videos 👍😁 Here in Norway, outside the major cities, the mc shops are few and far between. Not enough people to sustain them. This shop is the big one in my region, great service!
Good luck with your search. Wise to stick with Yamaha. I recently acquired the T7 standard model here in the States and I am loving the bike. Like all bikes there is compromise but the core of the bike is perfect for me. Coming from much larger ADV bikes, the Harley Pan America, 2018 KTM 1290 SA-R, 22' 890 Adventure standard model and I've had the KLR 650. I think the T7 might just be my bike of many solutions where I can pare down the garage.
I don't know if it's good or bad that I came across this video... I have a MT07 today and I'm going to get a new bike come spring. The MT07 is a bit too cramped for me. I'm 195cm. Before listening to you I was kinda set on testing a XSR900. But now you say the MT09 is cramped and you're a tall rider... Maybe I need to take a trip and test the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, no dealers near by but I kind of fell in love with the looks of that bike. Or maybe play the safe card and get a Tenere 700... Oh the choices...
The best thing you can do is try as many of these bikes as you possibly can. I hadn't even considered the Tenere before that day. You might be surprised at what you end up liking 👍
Going through the same process now! :) Would you share how tall are you? I'm 200cm and most of bikes are too small :( considered xsr700, but my dealership sold them all ^^' mt-09 was fun, but not really my style. Tracer 7 boring, not that big. Triumph 1200XE was fun, but the most expensive and don't like the look. A bit lost here 😅 Would XSR700 work for 2 meters?
Step into my office, friend! 😁👍🏍️ I'm 186cm and a bit long in the legs. The xsr700 is too small for longer rides IMHO. The Tenere Extreme with a tall seat is your best bet, legroom, big pegs and a beefy suspension is worth the price difference 👍 Try one out, if you can!
Excellent video, best I have seen on your channel. It had a real point to it and was very real as I totally bought into yor search for a replacement for your XSR. If you are a fairly new rider I'd have thought that the CP2 power was enough, there is a balance between a smaller engine that leads to a lighter more chuckable bike and having more than enough power and extra weight and less flickability that can lead to an intimidation effect that could result in you using less power than you did on your smaller engined bike. How much did you ride your XSR between 6500 and 10000 RPM? I get the impression that it was the search for more comfort that was driving the potential change. You have already proved that you are a very discerning rider to have chosen the bike you already have. I have one identical, inc paint scheme, rack, Ohins rear shock and aftermarket Leo Vince exhaust, however I am only 5'6" tall and 70 Kg, so find the comfort fine.
Wow, thank you for the thoughtful comment! 🙏👍 I really appreciate it. And you are right, the CP2 is enough for me. It's the ergonomics that are cramping my style, on the xsr700. Ergonomics wins, at my age (and weight) 😁. Again, thank you for the constructive comment 👍
Good video and interesting discussion of the relative ergonomics, but did you really have to ride the bike to figure out that it was too cramped? Also, I can't imagine shopping for a new bike and considering ONLY one brand. What if the perfect bike for you is a Honda, or a Kawasaki or a Triumph?
thank you, Roger! Glad you liked it 🙏👍 As for testing the MT09, it was purely to try that CP3 engine. They didn't have the Tracer 9 as a demo bike. As for only testing Yamaha, only Yamaha make the CP2/3 engine, my friend 😁👍🎉🏍️
@TalkTheRide okay, well if you think that the CP2 and CP3 are the only engines worth having in the whole motorcycle universe, then you were shopping in the right place. Enjoy your new ride!
If you mainly road ride but occasional off-road Suggest you try Honda Transalp 750 or Suzuki vstrom 800de they have bit more power than the tenere but if you want more off-road then tenere would be my choice.
Ive seen that you like the Yamaha's. Even tho I would like to recommend a Husqvarna Norden 901. It is a bigger bike with enough legroom, same kind of bike like the Teneré. I think it is a nimble bike for the size. Really duable especially for your height. It has more the power than the Teneré. It more on the level with the Tracer 9/Mt-09. The engine is a 2 cilinder 275 crank just like the CP2. It has the same characteristics except having 40hp more than the CP2. It is a CP2 with CP3 power in Yamaha terms. I cannot say it will be your favorite, but i really really do suggest to just try one of those. I can asure you that it will give an smile from ear to ear. Ive tried it coming from a MT-07 myself. What a blast that machine was! Love the video btw. Nice and honest
Thank you, Luke! Glad you liked it 👍 There are no dealerships near me that have Husqvarna bikes, sadly. The Norden does seem very appealing and is on my list of bikes to try 👍
I haven't tried the standard version, only the World Rally and the Extreme. The Extreme was taller and felt great for a heavy set 6'1 guy. If your specs are shorter and lighter then I'm sure you'll love the Standard 👍
Try the Tenere 700 Explore, have you see it? The Extreme is the more off road focused version, the Explore is leans more towards the road and touring. I would imagine the pegs to set distance is pretty much the same so loads of legroom for you, and unless you're doing a lot of offroad it's the better bike for the road and longer trips like you mentioned at the beginning of the video. 6’6”, considerably heavier than you and ride a 2017 Africa Twin. I love it, but if the Tenere was out back in 2017 I would have bought a Tenere over the AT. 😁
Thank you for the input! 🙏👍 I have not ridden the Explore, but sat on it at the dealer. It had noticably less legroom, but would probably work well enough. I didn't inquire about it after that because I just fell for the Extreme 👍 have you tried it?
@@TalkTheRide Ah great, good for you. Only saw your latest video after I commented sorry! Congratulations!!! I've not looked at any of the Tenere's in detail, trying not to. Can't really justify the upgrade at the moment, and my daughter is looking at Uni soon $$$ 😅
Unsure of your previous bikes, but for me an old 2006 BMW R1200GS - [non-adventure model] is the comfiest bike I've ever owned. Can happily ride 300 miles without an issue and tons of leg room. Bought mine for £4k. Some bike designers dont seem to get the ergonomics right on some bikes. An upright tourer, should have plenty of legroom.
Yes a lot of people say GS. I do want to try it, but they are a bit on the pricey side for me. I'll definitely make a video on it, when I try one. That should be a fun comment section! 😁
I don't know, I do appreciate a little off road capability and prefer lighter bikes. Maybe those you mention won't be that? But I won't know until I try them ofc
@@TalkTheRide In all honesty, just give those sports tourers a go if you can, it will still do ok off road, unless u mean to tell me the off road you're facing is hilly stuff lol.
@@TalkTheRide Oh no I wouldn't say that, I don't have strong feelings either way. If anything, I TRY not to have "brand loyalty". I want the companies to be competitive so we the consumer win lol. Ive rode an MT-03 on a long term loan, did everything I needed from it, no complaints. Like the rest of the Big Four, it did it's job, was reliable and was enjoyable. I was just trying to give you a list of what MIGHT be a good fit for you. Since I generally prefer naked sports bike. Superbikes are a bit too uncomfy for me, so nakeds provide a better compromise. The next step up to them would be sports tourers, but not full on adventure bikes cos I still prioritize road usage.
@@TalkTheRide it is much bigger, but not much taller. A lot of room on the back for a +1 and quite a bit of luggage for touring. Torque as much as one can ask for. I'm 188 and wish it were a bit higher.
@@TalkTheRide They are kind of caught up in a loop here. Top of the line version is called CBR1000RR-R and I wonder what's gonna be next :) You mentioned that after two hours ride you're ruined for the next day. Is it legs? Or back pain?
R cubed? 😁 The pain the day after is lower back + some general "all over the place, out of shape" worn out. That part is on me and my lack of general exercise 😁 My motorcycle is my workout 👍
hey man, I have a question. what is your height? I'm 193cm (6,3 ft) and i'm trying to find a good bike. I was looking at the XSR700/900 because I heard it's a decent choise for taller guys. Do you agree and why or why not? I believe you can also get a somewhat higher seat but it's less comfy.
Hello, I'm 186cm and out of shape (and old). I think the XSR plattform is uncomfortable in the knees. The distance between seat and foot peg is too small for me. I guess your tolerance for discomfort may be different based on your general fitness and health. But at 193cm? I say, get the Tenere Extreme and upgrade the seat 👍
@@TalkTheRide Thank you! I'm pretty fit, however I'd love to be unrestricted with the warmer weather and not feel my back after a few hours. I'll take your advice with me when making a final decision.
@@TalkTheRide so how's it going, and good for you acknowledging we really don't need anything above a 700 really (my opinion) not meaning to create a debate 😁
Tenere sitting position is alright, however the seat may not be comfortable for long ride, do take note. Side track a bit V-strom 800DE / Trasalp 750 mayb a better choice, price range quite reasonable 11-12 ish
Yes, I noticed the narrow enduro seat, on the Extreme. Not ideal on long trips, there is a comfort seat available. I could switch to that if it gets too bad. But maybe I should try out the Transalp, there is a dealer for Honda in my town.
How to turn your Tenere into what it should be. Remap. Decat ,junk snorkel and bigger air box lid. Then with all that increase it will feel too low geared and want to wheelie lots Add a tooth to front sprocket and drop 2 or 3 on back. Then it will cruise at 70 mph at 4.5 k revs, better mpg and goes like bikes used to go before the emissions bollocks.
@@TalkTheRide I'm tall like yourself. The Puig taller screen 100mm taller than standard and one of those cheap flip things makes all the difference. The flip isnt really needed but breaks up wind nicely off the top of taller Puig screen. Don't waste your money on those slide adjusters. You slide up the standard screen and blimey the wind coming from the bottom is horrid. Not telling you how to suck eggs. Just shared experiences.
I came looking for this comment, both the footpeg and seat position can be adjusted on the tracer 9 to customize it for your specific comfort, and you can upgrade the seat to comfort as well. I have it and love the tracer so am very biased lol great video!!
Thank you! 🙏 And, you're not the only one with a bias for your own bike! 😁 I respect it. Lots of people love the Tracer 9 and I get why. I just think that compared to the ergonomics of the Tenere Extreme, those peg and seat adjustments won't be enough 👍🎉🏍️
I'm 6'1 (186cm) and out of shape... And old heh! The xsr700 is an amazing bike, but felt a little small under me. And the angle in my knees was a bit tight. I went with the Tenere Extreme because it fits me better.👍
@@TalkTheRide hehe. Im old as well, getting back into shape (takes months but it’s worth it), but I’m only 1,78m. I have a xsr125 and I love it, will be doing my full license next year hopefully and then look for a bike. Thanks for this video, I laughed with you on the mt09 and you highlighted that it is not only about the looks of a bike (which is the state I’m in mentally). Have a great weekend.
@TalkTheRide I did until it was stolen never to be seen again 😢. Had it less than a year , thoroughly enjoyed it . I'm approximately 181 cms and didn't have any problems with leg position . That's why I asked if the roding position had been adjusted .We're all shaped differently tho lol .
Oh man that sucks. Sorry to hear that, bike stolen 😱 Yeah, we're all different, maybe the right adjustment could have tipped the scales in favor of the Tracer 9, but I kinda doubt it. Something about it felt heavy and sluggish. Maybe that luggage box on the back does something to the feel of the bike?
You should consider a Transalp 750. Better touring bike from a Tenere, tons of leg room, super comfortable, great wind protection and great ergonomics. I have tested Tenere, V-Strom 800 and Transalp 750 and for my preference (80% road - 20% off road) Transalp was better.
@@TalkTheRide I have yes. It was superior only off road. Great engine, nice torque but gearing is on the short side and it feels like it's struggling on highway. There are a lot pros and cons. I would only pick the tenere if i had at least 50% off road useage.
I see, thanks for the input. I don't know how much off road I will do. I really liked the Extreme on the highway, actually. But then I'm coming from the XSR 😁
What are you doing with the clutch? After 1st gear you no longer need to feed the clutch, once you shift just let the clutch straight out and get back on the gas.
Motorcycles (most new ones at least) have wet clutches. It's not like a car. Feathering the clutch is fine in higher gears too. We need it to control our speed sometimes 👍
Tenere has a high centre of gravity - it can be a handful off road for people that lack a lot of off-road experience - especially at the slower technical things. If you are mostly going to be riding on road a R1250GS is worth at least taking for a test ride. They are very easy to ride and super comfortable. Don't let the published weight put you off - it is easier to lift a 1250gs up than a Tenere from a fall.
Glad you picked your bike next time try a Harley there are in the 1,577cc to 1,856cc and they have good legroom. Sure they only put out 77hp to 90hp the the torque is what gets you moving. Like your vedios man
Yap, had MT09 for a few years, btw 6ft3in, leg position not as bad as a race bike, but not like adv, feels tiny next to my africa twin. Mt super nimble, easy to ride, never had issues with it. Fun ride for sure, not past a few hours tho, rode it across the country once, hmm that was not comfy…
@@TalkTheRide yes indeed, one of my biggest issues with it for drives over 1-2 hours is actually the lack of protection on hands and windshield to small, even tho i added a decent size after market. As an all year rider, in cold climate, the hand guards and good wind protection matters. Guess it really depends on what is the intended purpose, if you want to commute daily, 1-2h + and lug some gear, nothing beats adventure bikes, esp for tall guys. To me the most comfy were AT and V-strom, i never tried Ducati MS, hear that is great but boy is it expensive. Duke, my wife hated the back seat, so she voted that one down. I think as far as how these pull, all 1k cc and up are more or less the same (aside from duke and ducati), and they all sit around 550lb... um 250kg ish? will be fun to see what you get and how you like it.
T7 are a great bike. An honda Africa twin would probably suit you, even second hand they are worth looking into. Big and roomy and comfortable like a T7. I'm a big lad and ride both Easily.
I love my Tenere, very well suited to me and my style of riding. But the seat foam is so uncomfortable, after a few hours, butt ache is inevitable. There are of countless videos and threads on people trying to solve it, but ultimately I think we all just come to accept it. If I get butt ache and I've got the time to spare, I take it for a quick blip on an unpaved road to stretch out my legs. Otherwise, have fun it's very forgiving
The T7 world raid it’s more off road focused a bike you stand up on so long distance road expect a numb bottom. The Africa twin will do both no problem. I would choose one of these two and maybe the triumph tiger rally pro 900 cp3 this I very much like the back light switch gear a nice touch
@@TalkTheRide there on about increasing tax here in the uk for motor cycles for example a 600cc would cost the same as a V8 Range Rover last time I checked was 450£ a 125cc would cost the same price as a 2.0 litre petrol which is around 200£ tax for a 125cc used to be 20£ for the year it’s getting ridiculous. You can find said information on TH-cam MAG short for motorcycle action group
Great video, ride safe, I own a Tenere, the things I do not like are the tube tires, which force you to take off the wheel if you have a puncture, opposed to be able to plug it as you can do with a tubeless tire, I also do not like the OEM tires, especially on cold days, would change them to street oriented tires soon, the bike is good, reliable, but as you said, boring..... And..... after few hours, you can not run away from the seat, it is really painful no matter what you do..... This is my impression, I bought it two years ago, as my Guzzi V7 was too small for long trips, so I come from the same place you are coming from, and the Tenere, is great but not the solution for me at least, it is not comfortable seat wise, and boring as hell, and the stress of the tube tires is just not fun, I am not mechanically inclined to carry tools, take off tires and change tubes on the side of the road.
Very entertaining video! I’m quite small (170/5’7”, 80 kg/186 lb), so for me the Tracer 7 and 9 are both quite big. I guess you’re a significantly larger man? You look like a mighty huge man in the videos, but it is sometimes difficult to judge from videos. So what’s your measures?
Hello 👋 I'm 1.86m/ 6'1 and weigh 120 kg (I think). So I'm not the largest man in the world, but larger than the ideal size for most bikes I guess. I'm 46 yo and I think that factors in, too. Bloodflow and general physical health etc. For your specs the mt07 should be perfect, the Tracer7 is slightly taller 👍
You should really try the Suzuki gsx-8R it has just a little more power then the xsr 700 but it also gives you more wind protection😊 For the ergonomics, the v-Strom is definitely going to fit you👍💪
@@TalkTheRide I don't think we are talking about the same bike then😜 The one I'm saying you should try out is a parallel twin😉 not a screamer but Torque down low is awesome
@@TalkTheRide I haven't as I'm not much into that style of motorcycle. I've always has super nakeds; Superduke 1290, Tuono 1100, Speed Triple 1050... took a few years of and got back into it with the Z900RS. I'm a tall guy, 6'2" and fit comfortably on the RS. It has more than enough real world power and performance, especially after a proper suspension adjustment and swapping out the stock tires. Lots of avail aesthetic and performance mods avail too, and the bike is pretty affordable especially used, and has bullet proof reliability. I also think it looks great for a modern retro, as Im not a fan of the insect/transformer look of many modern bikes. Do try it out, it's a solid bike!
Great choice mate and if you run out of destinations ship it down here to Australia we have one or two adventures for ya 😎 nice work mate just found your channel love the no crap style.
The Tenere is a "rocket ship"? lol its the same motor as your XSR? Maybe geared lower but you could change the final gearing easily on any bike....whatever you like dirt bikes I guess....now go find some dirt to play in!
Great video and cool comparisons 😎 I just traded my 2018 Yamaha XSR900 for a 2023 KTM 790 Adventure. Much better and upright position, and better comfort. It has a 20 liter tank so it does around 400km per tank. And the engine is very playful and quick. It is also feels very planted to the road. Maybe you should check it out :)
Thank you! 🙏😊🎉 Glad you liked it! Yes, the KTM 790 is on my list, definitely have to try it. A guy I ride with has a 1290 Super Adventure and it's an impressive machine 🔥
@TalkTheRide It's funny. I just sold my tenere 700 and got a xsr 900. The wind on that tall lightweight bike on the highway will drive you nuts..also it could use cruise control. Other than that, the tenere 700 is a blast.
@@TalkTheRide I was just looking for a 2up cruiser to bring my daughter along. I come from a z900. Also being 40+ I had no idea how I would take to the luxuries an older RT can offer. Heated grips/seat, cruise control, power wind shield. You mentioned you wanted to do more touring, imho none of those have a great touring wind shield. You will always be fighting the wind. The days that aren't perfect is when the RT shines. It also corners better than my z900. It also has long legs for its gearing. 2nd gear will handle 10-85 mph. Makes for some relaxed cruising. 6 gallon tank, I am averaging 42.7 mpg. Best of luck.
Unless you are riding a bunch of dirt then the Tracer 9gt is an awesome motorcycle you wont get bored with it is fast and has luggage good fuel range lots of helpful rider aids standard although the plus version is way overpriced if you ask me
Great compare/contrast video!
Wow you and I are on parallel tracks, for sure 😃. Glad to hear you are happy with your Tenere, for the same reasons as I'm buying it for 👍🎉🏍️
Does the Tenere feel underpowered after the Mt-09?
Not underpowered, more sensible and usable perhaps? The mt09 is crazy, but how often can I use that power ? In the end I want the ergonomics and comfort of the Tenere way more 👍

Awesome, thank you! 👍 I love Yamaha too, their philosophy seems to be: to put a smile on our face, at a reasonable price, and reliability 🎉🔥🏍️
Your energy is infectious and I love how you speak XD
Thank you! 😊🙏 Glad you liked it 👍 more to come when I get my new bike 🎉🏍️😁
Really enjoyed your video. Good luck to you whichever bike you choose.
Thank you! 🙏😊 I appreciate the kind words.
this is what youtube should be, real people with real, honest advice and information, bigger channels just do marketing and ads with zero value for customers now... as a suggestion you should mention your height and dimensions in the clip, i found them in comments though so its all good.. great video, thank you!
Hey, glad you liked it! Yeah the best thing is to try as many bikes as you can. You may be surprised as to what you really like 👍🏍️🎉
@ Thank you for the great advice!!
Great video! Lots of differences between the models, the tenere xtreme looks pretty wicked!
Thank you, glad to hear it 👍🙏🎉🏍️ yes, the Extreme looks cool. That Yamaha blue is gorgeous and the size and height of it is very striking in person 👍
This Visio I found surprisingly informative
Glad to hear it! 👍🙏🎉🏍️
The mt09 engine in a tenere frame would be exquisite ❤
Yes! Yamaha Please take my money!! 💰
Maybe there is an option for a comfortable seat on the Tenere? Official or unofficial.
Yeah, a tall and wide comfort seat is just what I went for 👍
where do you get the mirrors for the xsr700, they look really nice.
sad to see you ditch the xsr700. tenere is also a good bike
I got them on AliExpress, Fenrir is the brand. They work well and were cheap 👍🎉🏍️
Yes the seat was a little weird, but I can change it if need be 👍 The GS are a little out of my price range, I think 🏍️
Never tried it, but it looks very comfy! 👍
I am very interested in the Versys, will try it first chance I get 👍
Good luck with your new bike!!!!
Thank you, can't wait to go camping 🏕️🥾
For travelling have a look at the kove 800, its like the tenere world raid but with 94 hp and much less weight (25kg)
What is your leg inseam length ??
What is your height. ??
What is your weight ??
Thanks, I appreciate this information.
Great video.
I subscribed.
I do want to try that very bike. There's no dealership nearby, but maybe when I go on a trip 👍
Oh and yes, very happy with my choice. Will be getting the bike in a few weeks 👍
Yes, that's what I think - a versatile all rounder, with that lovely CP2 engine and the Yamaha reliability 👍
Would you share how tall are you? I'm 200cm and most of bikes are too small :( considered xsr700, but my dealership sold them all ^^' mt-09 was fun, but not really my style. Tracer 7 boring, not that big. Triumph 1200XE was fun, but the most expensive and don't like the look. A bit lost here 😅
Would XSR700 work for 2 meters?
Step into my office, friend! 😁👍🏍️ I'm 186cm and a bit long in the legs. The xsr700 is too small for longer rides IMHO. The Tenere Extreme with a tall seat is your best bet, legroom, big pegs and a beefy suspension is worth the price difference 👍 Try one out, if you can!
Sounds like you had the most fun on the MT09! Perhaps you could adjust the footpegs to give you a bit more room?
I think it would still be too small for me 👍
Excellent video, best I have seen on your channel.
Again, thank you for the constructive comment 👍
just bought an xsr700 as my first bike at 23y/o loving it so far but im only 179ish cm so its feels great for my size
It's a wonderful bike, great to start on and could last you many seasons 🔥🎉🏍️👍 Your height is perfect, I think. Congratulations on a great choice 😁👍
Thanks, mate 👍🙏 I do love that CP2 😊🎉
If you mainly road ride but occasional off-road Suggest you try Honda Transalp 750 or Suzuki vstrom 800de they have bit more power than the tenere but if you want more off-road then tenere would be my choice.
Sounds good, I want to try both those bikes, first chance I get. 👍
I really enjoyed this video, can't wait for the next one. Have you thought about a BMW GS?
Thank you! Glad you liked it 🙏😊 A lot of people mention GS but I've never tried it. I will, first chance I get 👍😁🏍️ It may be a bit pricey for me 🤔
Ive seen that you like the Yamaha's.
I'm leaning to a Tenere also, although I think I'll be going with the standard variant
No worries, mate 👍🙏 yeah it gets expensive quickly. Best to be sensible (do as I say, not as I do 😂)
Tenere 700 was the first ADV bike I rode, and it felt so comfortable compared to other "standard" bikes I have owned.
Yes it feels nimble and light yet big and strong 😁🔥👍 🎉
Unsure of your previous bikes, but for me an old 2006 BMW R1200GS - [non-adventure model] is the comfiest bike I've ever owned. Can happily ride 300 miles without an issue and tons of leg room. Bought mine for £4k. Some bike designers dont seem to get the ergonomics right on some bikes. An upright tourer, should have plenty of legroom.
Yes a lot of people say GS. I do want to try it, but they are a bit on the pricey side for me. I'll definitely make a video on it, when I try one. That should be a fun comment section! 😁
if you have the chance try a ktm 790 ADV , more less the same price, tubless tyres , cornering abs , and option of having the tech pack
Would love to, but no dealer nearby 😌 it's on the list!
Nice Vid!! ♥
Thank you! 🙏👍😊🎉
“I’ve never ridden anything this big, that’s what they all say to me”. 🤣😂
😁😁😁
Any chance at a sports tourer that would interest you? Kawa Ninja 1000SX, BMW R1250S, Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello?
I don't know, I do appreciate a little off road capability and prefer lighter bikes. Maybe those you mention won't be that? But I won't know until I try them ofc
@@TalkTheRide If you want a lil off road capability but still mostly road focused then Triumph Tiger 660 or BMW S1000XR
@@TalkTheRide In all honesty, just give those sports tourers a go if you can, it will still do ok off road, unless u mean to tell me the off road you're facing is hilly stuff lol.
You're not a fan of Yamaha, I take it?
I went from XSR700 as first bike to XJR1300. One of the better decisions I have made. Unknown bike, but an absolute blast to ride.
Interesting 🤔 it looks a little bit bigger than the xsr?
@@TalkTheRide it is much bigger, but not much taller. A lot of room on the back for a +1 and quite a bit of luggage for touring. Torque as much as one can ask for.
I'm 188 and wish it were a bit higher.
@@frederikclaeyssens9201 yes, the height and legroom is why I chose the Tenere Extreme, strange as that may sound 👍
XSR700 looks quite comfy? I mean, all those bikes you tried are
I guess, compared to a sports bike or something. I feel cramped in the legs on the xsr and it feels small under me. The Tenere fits me way more 👍
@TalkTheRide So you have found your perfect bike then :) I ride 2017 CBR1000RR so yeah, they all look rather comfy
Oh man, that's hardcore 👍 (I understand that the more R's the more extreme it is 😁)
@@TalkTheRide They are kind of caught up in a loop here. Top of the line version is called CBR1000RR-R and I wonder what's gonna be next :)
You mentioned that after two hours ride you're ruined for the next day. Is it legs? Or back pain?
R cubed? 😁 The pain the day after is lower back + some general "all over the place, out of shape" worn out. That part is on me and my lack of general exercise 😁 My motorcycle is my workout 👍
Why are you staying in 5th gear at 130km/h on the highway ??? You can kick in the 6th even on 70km/h with the tenere
If I went 130 in 5th then that was a bit excessive, agreed 😁 Probably just too much going on at that moment
hey man, I have a question. what is your height?
Good luck with your search! 🎉🏍️
Can't wait, which did you buy 🎉x
The Tenere Extreme! 👍🎉🏍️😁
@@TalkTheRide so how's it going, and good for you acknowledging we really don't need anything above a 700 really (my opinion) not meaning to create a debate 😁
It's been great, the Tenere always puts a smile on my face. 👍😊 And it's so much more comfortable on longer trips.
I have a XSR700 and a Tenere 700. I love them both for the same reasons you stated.
Yeah, they're both great bikes 👍🎉🏍️
For more leg room you could get a taller seat alongside some handlebar risers, and lowered footpegs. Would be a lot cheaper than a new bike!
That could help some, I agree. But I fear it wouldn't be enough, I went for maximum legroom and the Tenere Extreme 👍🏍️🎉
@@TalkTheRide yup, Transalp is somewhere between Tenere and Tracer
How to turn your Tenere into what it should be. Remap. Decat ,junk snorkel and bigger air box lid. Then with all that increase it will feel too low geared and want to wheelie lots Add a tooth to front sprocket and drop 2 or 3 on back. Then it will cruise at 70 mph at 4.5 k revs, better mpg and goes like bikes used to go before the emissions bollocks.
Sounds like a lot of work , it runs fine like it is 😁👍🎉
@@TalkTheRide Agree. But EU bikes are so restricted . Just makes them run like they used too.
Yeah, I guess. But it's only going to get worse and worse. Best enjoy these machines while they're legal 👍
Looks like the seat on the tracer 9 is in the low position. I ride a tracer 7, just wish it had cruise.
Ah that makes sense. It felt very small. And The Tracer 7 is a great bike, much better comfort than the XSR 👍
May I ask how tall you are and what is bad about the xsr700?😊
Thank you, glad you liked it! Sounds like the xsr700 will be a perfect bike for you 👍
Did you have seat set high and pegs low on the Tracer 9 ?
Probably not 🙂↕️ they barely let me take it out to begin with - it was a trade in and they didn't want any hassle (I thought 🤔)
Shame , makes a big difference.
Do you ride the Tracer9 yourself?
Yeah the Transalp might be more comfortable on very long runs. Have you tried the Tenere btw?
@@TalkTheRide I have yes. It was superior only off road. Great engine, nice torque but gearing is on the short side and it feels like it's struggling on highway. There are a lot pros and cons. I would only pick the tenere if i had at least 50% off road useage.
I see, thanks for the input. I don't know how much off road I will do. I really liked the Extreme on the highway, actually. But then I'm coming from the XSR 😁
The older Tracer 900 GT (2019) is pretty comfortable in comparison to the XSR/MT bikes
12:40 king in the castle
Felt so good haha!! 🏍️🎉👍😁
I could go to Cape Cod 😄
Just kidding Talk the Ride great video. It was fun being along for the ride while you were having such a blast
Thank you, buddy! Happy to hear it 😊
Maybe also try the BMW F900GS that was standing at the dealership
Yeah, I gotta try a GS , everyone seems to like them
Thanks so much for your thoughts. How tall are you please, I'm 5'7 and wanting to upgrade from my MT07 2019. Your butt dyno said you loved it lol
I'm 6"1 (1.86m) 👍 You, at your height - MT09 all the way! ♥️ What a fun bike! Well, it's probably a hassle on long trips, then Tracer9 is great👍
Vstrom? Multistrada?
I'd love to try them out, if I get the chance! 👍
Solid video mr talk and ride
Thank you, Marvin! 🙏😊 Glad you liked it! New bike next week, I'll try to keep it up 😁
Tenere has a high centre of gravity - it can be a handful off road for people that lack a lot of off-road experience - especially at the slower technical things.
If you are mostly going to be riding on road a R1250GS is worth at least taking for a test ride. They are very easy to ride and super comfortable. Don't let the published weight put you off - it is easier to lift a 1250gs up than a Tenere from a fall.
I'm not sure where I'll be riding, that's half the charm 😁 Def gonna check out the GS, many comments mention them 👍
Glad you picked your bike next time try a Harley there are in the 1,577cc to 1,856cc and they have good legroom. Sure they only put out 77hp to 90hp the the torque is what gets you moving. Like your vedios man
Thank you! 🙏
Yes, the mt09 is fun for a while 👍 Wild machine 😁
You must test ride the Africa Twin. Try the DCT and non DCT.
Yes 💯 will try it the first chance I get 👍
T7 are a great bike. An honda Africa twin would probably suit you, even second hand they are worth looking into. Big and roomy and comfortable like a T7. I'm a big lad and ride both Easily.
Yep, it's on the list of bikes I need to try 👍 It costs a lot more here in Norway than the T7, though.
Thank you for sharing👍🙏 Yep, that seat is a bit hard. Have you looked at any of the replacement seats available?
The T7 world raid it’s more off road focused a bike you stand up on so long distance road expect a numb bottom. The Africa twin will do both no problem. I would choose one of these two and maybe the triumph tiger rally pro 900 cp3 this I very much like the back light switch gear a nice touch
I do want to try both those bikes, esp the Tiger. The Africa Twin is a lot more expensive here in Norway due to CC tax
@@trapdoorspider9211he means sales tax not road tax
Yes, the price on the bike goes up with the size of the engine 👍
Yeah the tubes are a drawback, and the seat too. I'll try other bikes as I travel around more. Not many dealerships where I live 👍
Have you thought of trying out a Honda Africa Twin? Ideally a 2016-2019 (1,000cc).
I've heard good things about the Africa Twin 👍 are the older ones better?
CFMOTO NK800 with a flyscreen is gonna fit u nice, i find it too big.
I'd love to try it 👍 not sure there are any dealers around
You should really try the Suzuki gsx-8R it has just a little more power then the xsr 700 but it also gives you more wind protection😊
For the ergonomics, the v-Strom is definitely going to fit you👍💪
Cool, I used a Suzuki during my learning and test. I did love that high scream from that engine 👍🔥
@@TalkTheRide I don't think we are talking about the same bike then😜
The one I'm saying you should try out is a parallel twin😉 not a screamer but
Torque down low is awesome
Hehe yeah it was the sport touring version of the Gixxer, can quite remember what it was called.
The 9GT at 226kg is a very light bike for a sports touring bike. Try a GSA at 267kg lol
It's all relative, I'm used to a 188kg bike. The 205 kg Tenere is as high as I go 😁🏍️🎉
@@TalkTheRide Don't fear bigger heavier bikes... I have an XSR900 and an S1000XR for when I go touring..
It's not fear, it's boredom 😁
@TalkTheRide So a bigger bike bores you? Errrrr okay? I've never heard that before.
Heavier bikes are less fun to ride, compared to lighter bikes, yes. That's my take on it 👍
Nice Choice with the Tenere!
Thank you, Whitney! 👍🎉🏍️ You too?
@@TalkTheRide Yep, been loving my T7. It just feels so perfect in size! Big bike but rides like a big supermoto that can travel anywhere hehe
Yes! Feels like it can do anything and go anywhere ♥️
Great test. I think Tenere is great choice
Thank you, Havard! I think so too, great ergonomics and the CP2, what could be better 👍🎉👍😁
Should try triumph tiger 900 rally😊
Yes, a lot of people say that! 👍 The closest dealer is about 2hours away, but maybe I should go 🤔🏍️🎉
How tall you are btw?
6"1 (1.86m)
def check out the Z900RS.
Will do, there is a dealer a few hours away. Have you tried the Versys?
Sounds great, I'll try one first chance I get 👍
Dude, I think you should check Ducati Desert X
Yeah? 👍 What do you like about it?
Great choice mate and if you run out of destinations ship it down here to Australia we have one or two adventures for ya 😎 nice work mate just found your channel love the no crap style.
Thank you! Glad you liked it 🙏👍🎉 Now I'm googling "Australia temperature December" haha 😂
@@TalkTheRide hahaha December would be mid 30s to low 40s in my area 😁
Fahrenheit? So, 1-7 degrees celcius? You live closer to the antarctic perhaps?
@@TalkTheRide sorry mate no we use Celcius here 😁 Tasmania gets bloody cold though (Australian cold 🥶)
Wow that's very cold indeed 😂 No Tasmania in December, copy that.
How tall are you?
6'1 (1.86m), more leg than torso 😁 👍
The Tenere is a "rocket ship"? lol its the same motor as your XSR? Maybe geared lower but you could change the final gearing easily on any bike....whatever you like dirt bikes I guess....now go find some dirt to play in!
Maybe you're getting too hung up on the advertising of these bikes. It's a motorcycle that can do anything, really.
Great video and cool comparisons 😎
I just traded my 2018 Yamaha XSR900 for a 2023 KTM 790 Adventure.
A guy I ride with has a 1290 Super Adventure and it's an impressive machine 🔥
how tall are u pal ?
I'm 6"1 (1.86m) 👍
@@TalkTheRide thank pal I’m 5”9 so it might be ok for me and my knees. 👍
Yes, I think will work! 👍
Man keep on laughing 🤩 i for myself own a XSR900 , whenever i drive it i LOVE it mor and more.
I will! 😁🙏🎉👍🔥 The xsr900 is an awesome machine!
Nice work and fun too and👍
Thank you, Roger! 🙏 Glad you liked it!
Don't forget to try a Triumph 1200!
Will do, first chance I get! 👍
Honestly i think you want a cruiser if you're main concern is leg room and ergos.
@@2twolow Cruisers are not for me, that feet forward thing feels weird. I went with the Tenere Extreme👍
@TalkTheRide It's funny. I just sold my tenere 700 and got a xsr 900. The wind on that tall lightweight bike on the highway will drive you nuts..also it could use cruise control. Other than that, the tenere 700 is a blast.
I bet the XSR900 is a ton of fun!! 👍🎉🏍️🔥
Try a 1250/1200rt imo
Will do, so many comments recommend them 👍🎉
@@TalkTheRide I was just looking for a 2up cruiser to bring my daughter along.
Thank you for the input, exactly the stuff I need to hear 👍
Unless you are riding a bunch of dirt then the Tracer 9gt is an awesome motorcycle you wont get bored with it is fast and has luggage good fuel range lots of helpful rider aids standard although the plus version is way overpriced if you ask me
I felt the Tracer was a bit small for me, legroom and all 👍
The tenere would be the bees knees with a 900 in it 😮
💯 agree. I even suggested it to the guy at the dealership. He said it would require a redesign of the whole bike and won't happen. 😌
