    I feel privileged. The aged quality of this recording 5 years post gives it the feel of a home video made for family with you having fun times, and I am getting to see it. The scenes on the back of the train and on the viewing deck at the canyon, complemented by the excellent choice of score, create a palpable nostalgia, and makes me so desirous of doing the same. Thank you for sharing your love story and adventures with us, Mark and Sue.🙏🏾💙🤍❤️

    2010...as a widow, bought 32’ class A and pulled Jeep. Spent wonderful week in Williams, Arizona. Drove Jeep up thru the canyon.
    Absolutely wonderful campground. Mom was 80. I was out of wine. Campground owners told me about the “drug store” where I could replenish my supply. Husband and wife owners were delightful. Beautiful grounds and very accommodating.
    Recall music outside restaurant every day. Small town, but loved it. Fabric shop, lazer cut metal (moose and hanging in my house in NC).
    Have told all my rv buddies about this place. Mom passed 2012. Best trip of her life.
    I will return. As soon as this virus is over, I will head to Williams, Arizona.
    Loved it and the people there.
    If you read this, you MUST put this on your bucket list.

      Just from the small amount of time we spent in the town, we could tell we would love to stay at any of the campgrounds near there. We had actually driven up from Sedona, AZ. This entire area is just so amazing.

    I have to say, you two are a great couple to watch. Thanks for sharing the video. My wife and I went to the Grand Canyon years ago for our anniversary and we experienced the train as well. In a few weeks we will be taking the tour again, but this time we will be returning with our three children. I'm looking forward to recording our memories there, just the same as you did. :)

      Thank you for your kind words! Sue and I like to show the places we visit for others to see if they would like to go. When we are going to an area to explore, we have our own vloggers we follow, and we will search their site to see what they did in each state. It is a great way to get a taste of things to come. Sounds like you have a memorable family outing coming up. Make sure everyone brings along a lot of layers of clothing. It can get really cold this time of year!

    The Grand Canyon Railway is another beautiful railroad. I have went here before back in 2015 and December 23rd 2019. This heritage railroad runs for 64 miles on a former Santa Fe Railroad (A.K.A the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad) line that was built back in September 17th 1901. The railroad has two steam locomotives, Grand Canyon Railway 29 (A.K.A Lake Superior & Ishpeming 29, built by American Locomotive Company in 1906), and Grand Canyon Railway 4960 (A.K.A Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 4960, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1923 and is now 100 years old). The railroad also mainly uses diesel locomotives, which are Grand Canyon Railway GP7u 1105, 2134 (Both built by Electro-Motive Division in 1952 and 1953 for the Santa Fe), FPA-4 6762, 6768, 6773, 6776, 6793 (All built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1958), FPB-4 6860, 6871 (Both built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1958), F40FH 237, 239, 295, 4124, and 4128 (All originally as F40PH locomotives with the first three built by Electro-Motive Division in 1977 and 1979 for Amtrak, while the last two were built by the same company in 1981 for New Jersey Transit). They also used to have some of these locomotives, those being Grand Canyon Railway 18, 19, 20 (All built by American Locomotive Company in January 1910, and are now undergoing restoration at the Colebrookdale Railroad in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, displayed at Frisco, Texas, and displayed at Allen, Texas), Grand Canyon Railway GP7u 2072 (Built by Electro-Motive Division in 1953 for the Santa Fe Railroad, and it’s current status is unknown), and Spokane, Portland & Seattle 539 (Originally as Northern Pacific 1762, built by American Locomotive Company in September 1917 and is now on display at Kalama, Washington).

    I did not notice the door being shut on Sue’s face. But I did notice the Segway from twin tracks to one track during the “railway hypnosis sequence.”
    I visited the Grand Canyon in May 2023. Though I did not take the Grand Canyon railroad, if I ever go back there ,I’ll have to include that on my itinerary.

      Hey Tom. The experience and convenience of the Williams Train ride is what it is all about. We rode this train again when we were on the Adventure Caravans trip. We stayed right in Williams, and WALKED to the train station. The scenery is not at all like some of the other train rides we have been on by any stretch of the imagination, ....but the destination is awe inspiring once you get there! Have fun guys.

      My younger sister, who has lived over 35 years in Scottsdale, AZ, has never been to the Grand Canyon. I am so happy that I got to go twice to the Grand Canyon. The second time was by the stream engine train in the 90's. I like that there are sky view cars now, though the price is a little steep. Of course, over 20 years difference in timeline. Plus I had a special coupon for October. I believe I was the only person from Arizona on the train that day. My friend was from Orlando, FL, while there were many individuals from Europa and the Asian countries.I really enjoyed watching your video.

    While staying in a Sedona AZ campground, we road the Grand Canyon Railway train to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The 1.5 hr drive to Williams AZ had to happen in the early am, because our train boarded at 9am sharp!
    We took the "added" bus excursion at the canyon that included lunch. If we could do it over again, with the limited time at the canyon, I would take the bus excursion WITHOUT lunch included. I would pack a lunch and bring it along, and just meet up with the folks after their buffet. (The buffet takes too much time away from viewing the canyon!)
    We were on the Mary Coulter Luxury Parlor Train at $226/each.We would pick this same car again. The lunch/bus excursion was extra.

    Out of interest, would you say you NEED to do the bus excursion at the other end - do you get the great canyon views just getting off the train and having a walk about?

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it depends on a lot of things. Covid has canceled most of the bus routes. Some shuttles are still running, but are most likely for HOTEL guests. In WARMER weather, and during NON-Covid, I would have suggested to take a shuttle from the train to the bike rental place. It's too far I believe to walk to it. If you have the choice to go, or not go, being only able to see the area in and around the train station I would say to go for sure. When things get back to the new normal, the best plan is to NOT take the Buffet they offer, and to pack your own lunch. While everyone else is wasting time eating a buffet, you can walk around with a sandwich and see the Canyon! Then, when they are done, rejoin the group & use the bus tour to see the most in the limited amount of time you have. Good luck Duncan!

    Hello, I would like to do this for my husband's birthday day. What time of the year did you go? Was there food served on the train just wondering because you said next time you wouldn't do the lunch so I want to make sure we eat before we arrive

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We went November 26th 2018. The food on the train is snacks, pastry, nuts, chips, yogurt,..that kind of stuff. The lunch offered is when you get OFF the train,........you get on a bus for a 5 minute ride,.....eat,.......then tour. If you take the late lunch, then you tour first,.....then eat. It takes up too much of your valuable time there. Pack a lunch you'll love to eat on the fly, with some beverages and you will be way ahead of the pack, and see more. Going on a bus tour with YOUR lunch would be the best option if it is available.

    What time of year was it when you took this trip, and where did you stay? We are planning on taking that very same trip this fall. I'm looking at staying at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park and taking the train ride. Do we need to plan an entire day for this excursion and was the bus tour extra and was it worth it? It doesn't appear to really be much to see other then a very big hole in the ground. I was there briefly in 1975 and I don't think I was there for much more than an hour. Any tips you can pass along will be greatly appreciated. Mike

      We went November 26th 2018. We were staying at the Distant Drum Campground in Sedona Arizona. This took us all day due to the long ride to and from the train station in Williams Arizona. It is just a great way to sightsee and relax. We are retired,......so we are ALWAYS looking for things like this to do. It IS just a really big hole in the ground,...........but needs to be looked at during sunrise, high noon, and sunset!

      We will try to remember to include comments about this in the future. I would say as a generalization, the state and national parks were mostly designed YEARS ago when RV's were very small. Very few have full hookups. Many do not have 50 amp service. ADA improvements have been added when possible, but many National Parks attractions access is not due to costs. The private parks are usually much more modern, and their pools and restroom facilities are designed to current ADA access standards.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They offer 6 different adult ticket prices, based on the "class" of car you select to ride in. NO MEALS are served on ANY of the 6 levels of tickets. On the $67 and $82 tickets, no snacks are served. On the $159, $189 and the two $226/person tickets,......only SNACK FOOD in the morning ride in,.........and SNACK FOOD in the afternoon ride back are included. Soft drinks, booze and beer can be purchased. We were on the Mary Coulter Luxury Parlor Train at $226/each. The only thing we would do different is pack our own lunch for the bus excursion we took. Eating dinner at the cafeteria restaurant in the Grand Canyon Village sucked up too much time.

But,.......when you finally get to the Grand Canyon,......wow! If your children are younger, AND you want maximum viewing time at the Canyon, pack your own picnic lunches to take along.
