  • This is a sequel to the "Scandi VS Saber" video I released last fall. It was very fun to go out and film with four different LT Wright blades.
    Special thanks to my friend Allen from SC Bushcraft Backwoods for helping make this video possible. Check out his channel:

    Full flat grind is the best grind for general kitchen tasks.
    Grind type is crucial for vegetables like carrots and onions.
    Truth is that convex can't compete with FFG for food prep.
    But FFG is not good for woodworking and buscraft tasks.

    I personally love the flat grind. Tennessees wood is different and less dry than yours so it works better over here lol. I havent been on this account in a while. I am thinking about making more videos again soon maybe. Have a splendid day Jude!

      You and your Flat Grinds! (haha, just kidding.) Been a while, bud. How have you been? You should definitely get back out there and create more content. Thanks, brother, and you have a great one as well.

    Great video man ! I’m a scandi man through and through but that’s only because it’s all I’ve used and they’re easier for a novice like myself to sharpen in the field. Next purchase will be a saber grind...someday lol. Thanks Jude

      Awesome, brother! Get good with that Genesis and then add a saber GNS to the family.

    I was subed back when you were wayside adventures. I thought your channel was done so I unsubbed. After a lot of searching, I finally found you! So happy to see you're back at it and making content again! Now I got to work my way back through the videos I missed. Happy to see you again 👍

    Would like to see this test again but then with same knives, same steel, just different grinds, sharpened to zero. This was fun though, thanks.

      That would be amazing! I really would like to do a comparison like that. Maybe I can convince LT to send me a knife with all four grinds....

    I'm lost...the types of edges didn't seem to be explained. Can't really tell from watching cutting happen, what's going on.? There is 45 secs left so maybe there is hope lol

    High grind Sabrevex is my favourite.

      Nice! I just picked up a High Sabervex knife, so I can compare it to the others I have.

    I've only had 2 l.t.'s , one is actually a blind horse. The d2 scandi blind horse was incredibly sharp and held an edge extremely well. The O1 saber gns was pretty dull though and i had to spend quite some time on a belt sander to get it reasonably sharp.

    • @SurvivoTek
      @SurvivoTek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always wanted to compare a blind horse to an LT. Never gotten a chance, though. I'm sorry you got a dull one. If you contacted LT, they would have definitely taken care of you. They have awesome customer service. Thanks for checking out the video, my friend!

      Edit- I just got an lt forest trail and it needs some testing but I'm 99% sure it is my grail knife

      @@rorydavis That's so great! I have heard great things about the forest trail. Never had an opportunity to try one out myself, but eventually, I'd love to pick one up. Let me know if it winds up being your grail knife, my friend!

    Great video, Jude! I'm a dyed-in-the-wool FFG (Full Flat Grind) kind of guy. But they all will work!

    • @SurvivoTek
      @SurvivoTek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! Nice. I've never had a really nice FFG, so I never learned to appreciate it. Maybe I should get a FFG Genesis. That would probably change my mind.

    Pretty cool Jude. Which one did you prefer? I kinda have my own little grind I do. I will take the hard buff off and put the scandi back to zero. Then I will put a tiny secondary on it and convex that out by stropping. I think the hard buff is a bit much of a secondary. Great video🙂 hopefully I will have some soon

    • @SurvivoTek
      @SurvivoTek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't decide which one I prefer. It's too difficult to choose. Honestly, I like them all for different purposes. And I'm not good enough at sharpening and re-profiling to experiment. Get some vids out, brother!

    No way scandi gets a 4/5 for food prep. Try chopping carrots and potatoes with one, not a fun experience

      Haha! Yeah, I think you're right there. I don't know why I gave the scandi a 4 out of 5. It's been so long.
