Scandi Grind: Woodworking mainly (Super sharp edge can be used for utility tasks, like draw cutting leather) Full Flat Grind: Foodprep or general light and medium use (Great grind for small and medium size general use knives) Saber Flat Grind: General hard use (Ideal for choppers, for spliting wood or any hard use knife) Convex: Hunting-Field dressing/skinning (The raised cheeks, allow the blade, to glide on bones so that the edge doesn't hit them, also provides more edge stability, which is essential for these kind of jobs) Hollow Grind: General light use
So I actually like having my fire steel on a lanyard, either around my next or looped around a belt loop and in my pocket. What I really like on the sheath is a honing rod, either steel or ceramic, so I have a knife and a way to keep it sharp
A sheath is a terrible place to store a fire starter.. always keep 1 in your pocket and 1 in your pack.. I have had too many of these fire starters fall out of the sheath compartments.. most people just like the way it looks, function be damned
I have a rod in a zippered compartment in my baccy pouch and another in a hardcase wallet, I keep meaning to drill some for use on my bootlaces but never get to doing it.
I worry about losing a firesteel if it’s riding on the sheath, and not noticing, so I prefer somewhere more secure like a sealed pocket on pants or pack.
I like having a firesteel loop on my sheath. It’s always there when you need it and if you happen to carry a ferro rod in a bag or pack, nothing wrong with having a backup.
I absolutely love having the firesteel loop on my sheaths!!!!it just makes life so much easier while out in the bush!!!! And making a fire that much easier to!!! Love the channel brother and thank you for the gaw!!!
Joker makes a really beautiful knife, considering the price points . I think for Bushcrafting these are the best deals on the market. The fit an finish is on par with some big name brands maybe even better then some. 14C28N is a great steel choice and has me looking at their Ember with curly birch handles.
Da forgiatore e utilizzatore di coltelli, posso dire che sono fra i peggiori sul mercato. Impugnatura liscia e senza guardia sono pericolosi se usati con le mani bagnate.
I have the firesteel loop on a few sheaths but prefer it without. Joker knives have something about them that grabs your attention and also are a great value!
I have just started to get into bushcraft skills after I found this wonderful hobby of hiking through this channel this last summer. Learning how much fun hiking with my kids and learning about new items to get or not get through the videos on this channel has actually saved my life in more ways that one. My heath most importantly! If I win this giveaway or not I will never stop watching your videos! I would prefer the one without the fire steel attached the the holster because if I ever wanted to carry the knife on my belt I would want the fire steel to be separate for when I would actually need it. Love the channel man! Keep it up!
So I've been starting to look at what the different grinds are good for, and the Saber seems like it's the Jack of All Trades grind. Like if you knew you might be in a survival situation, it would be the best option, but if you knew you were heading into the woods, then a Scandi would be the better option.
It all depends on what, when and where I am using the knife if I want the attached firesteel. Personally, I think that Joker Nessmuk S is a gorgeous knife and the leather sheath without the steel is nice all around carry! Thanks for all of your videos Aaron!
I don't own a sheath that incorporates a fire steele, but have modified several of my knives to include one. When I do, it's a smaller, lighter weight ferro rod for emergency or backup purposes, not as my primary fire starting tool. It's how I give myself a little redundancy but keeps my lighter as the workhorse firemaker.
I keep my steels in various places yet like my sheath to keep as unobtrusive as possible. They tend to get in the way enough without a steel hanging off the side.
I definitely see the benefit of having a spot on the sheath for firesteel but unless it's extremely streamlined, I'd prefer to keep it in a pack or in a belt pocket.
There's something beautiful about the Joker handles and leather sheaths. I don't have any sheaths with a fire steel on it, but as long as it doesn't fall out easy I dig it.
Aaron, you got me hooked on Joker knives. I got the ember in k720. It's really nice. Haven't had a chance to really put it to the test but it is really nice. I continually peruse amazon for what's available. I'll have more before too much longer.
Love the Skinner. I do all the skinning for us. The handle would not slip when wet with blood. As for a fire steel I have no preference I carry several.
I am a big fan of redundancy lol so I used both. I like to have my fire steel on my blade for convenience. And I keep another in my pouch in my bag backpack.
Gideon, can you do a video on sharpening the Joker Nomad - only sharpened Scandi grinds previously so wondering how hard it is and what tool/s might be needed. Many thanks.
I'm pretty indifferent to whether or not the fire steel is attached to the sheath since I don't light fires very often, but I would not mind it one bit. Especially if there is also some sharpening/honing option as well.
I would Much rather have the fire steel on the sheath. With it being connected it's much less likely to be forgotten or misplaced. Keep up the Awesome work!!. God Bless you and yours!. Amen.
I like the firesteel loop on the sheath, but that doesn't mean I'll use it while busting through brush unless it holds it tight, or I have it tied down. I've lost too many knives while busting through thick brush and climbing steep hills while in the military.
Good morning. Awesome review! I prefer to keep my fire steal off the knife. That’s just one more thing to get caught on a belt, backpack strap, gear that I’m carrying, etc. and can get knocked loose. I like to keep it in a pocket and go. Have a great day!
I do love having a fire steel with my Knife, but do find the having a sharpening stone on it to be more useful as it gets used far more often as I have better and quicker fire starting options in my EDC and bush craft kit.
Picked up the Joker Lynx after one of your recent videos, and liked it so much I added the Nomad and the scandi Ember to my collection. Fantastic knives. Thanks for introducing me to this brand!
I use a Swedish fire steel that comes along with a tiny metal plate which is connected to the steel through paracord. Therefore you do not necessarily need a 90 degree spine on the back of your knife to get the job done.
I like the firesteel option because it's nice to know nomatter what happens if you have your knife on you a fire is possible for the most part! Especially canoeing or just on the water and you dump over and lose everything!
I don't necessarily need the ferrorod attached to the sheath, but I don't mind it either. I'd probably prefer a honing rod in that place, but again, it depends on my overall loadout. Most commercial sheaths don't have such a loop in the first place, so it's sadly not always an option.
You have helped me decide to get one. I’ve already been looking at the Joker line of knives and especially the three you went over. I think the ember is the way I’ll go. I won’t be using it for cooking so much as more of a EDC . Thanks
I like having one on the sheath for quick access, but always have a backup in a pocket, and in my water bottle carrier. When it comes to fire and cutting tools, redundancy is the best life insurance in the woods.
I definitely prefer to have the fire steel loop on the sheath. It’s is just so convenient and if you don’t feel like carrying the steel for some reason you can just take it out. It’s all about convenience and options. Thanks for all the great videos I always look forward to seeing them!
Hi ! Love the nessmuck! I don't really like having the fire steel on the belt sheath. As I found that it's always catching on branches or my backpack. I have them in a special compartments in my bag. Also as I live in a country where forest are highly flammable i avoid showing firesteels or other lighters as much as possible. I dream of such a knife !
What a beautiful knife! I love the idea of having a fire stick available however my husband would rather not have one. We are impressed with the quality and versatility of the knife. Would love to add to our collection! Thanks for the opportunity!!
Another great video on Joker knives. I got the Bushcrafter in full flat, and the Lunx, which is a sabre grind. I'll get the Nomad for a convex once they have it back in stock, and I'm also thinking of the Ember in scandi. These are great options for us in Australia. Joker sells these through our Amazon, with good prices and options, and shipping only took a week for mine. I know the giveaway ended, but it's the internet, so I might as well provide my opinion. Why not go with the options for ferro rods if they're available? It's usually not that much more, and you then won't have to look for after market solutions or rigging up something yourself. I always get that option, it's convenient and you don't even really notice the extra bulk or weight.
I usually carry my firesteel in my bag or in my pocket, I've never really had a need to carry it on my knife sheath. It doesn't bother me either way though...
I'm a lighter guy so I keep fire steel in my pack as back up. I do have some nice kydex sheathes with firesteel on them but I can't recall ever using it to start a fire.
I like to have firesteel loop on there, however I usually don't use that firesteel but have it as backup, my main firesteel is on my body somewhere, pocket or latched to my belt or whatever :)
I do enjoy the shape design of the nessmuck and plan to buy that as well. I've steered off kabar AND puma. I enjoy the drop loops for the convenience and eventually I'll get one with the Firestarter. The big heavy pocket knives are starting to be an annoyance when on furniture at home.
As I use carry options with and without fire steels attached, I prefer with. It seems as though it makes sense to always have the ability to start a fire. My neck knife (Mora Eldris) also has a fire steel on its Kydex sheath.
I really enjoy having the firesteel loop. Instead of having to dig around in my bag or pockets looking for my firesteel its right on my sheath. Very convenient.
I will carry a firestarter on many of my knives if convient or built into the sheath. Often attach one to the sheath with "Ranger Bands" (bicycle innertube). Its just one less item I don't have to dig out of a pack when needed.
I prefer a fire steel on my knife sheath. It's just easier than digging into my pack to dig it out when I need to light the fire. Scandi grind is my favorite for woods use, and a good convex for general use. I bought the Garberg in the leather sheath, but I threw my Kansbol in it, and put the Garberg in a custom leather sheath. I don't mind the Garberg's leather flap over sheath, but I do prefer a regular more traditional style sheath, with a fire steel loop attached. These Jokers look awesome, I've always wondered about them ever since I saw them a few years ago on Amazon. Thanks for the reviews of them.
Really enjoy watching all your test videos, I have definitely enjoyed all the knives I’ve purchased from your reviews! I prefer the fire steel loop on my sheath keeps me from digging around in my pack for it
This alloy by the Swedish steel maker Sandvik, is more robust than most stainless and is an excellent modern alloy. For those who say that a scandi grind will not last as long are disputing an old argument. This alloy ups the game and belies these presuppositions. I would agree about food prep but in the field when using a scandi grind, my Nessmuk covers that pretty well and I haven't been inconvenienced by the geometry.
Hola gracias por tus videos son muy valorados para mi, y además aprendo mucho de ti. Gracias Yo digo q un cuchillo con firesteel es más útil ya q esta donde es necesario q este en su funda. Saludos sigue adelante
I would say that I would have the loop. I can use a sharpening steel there if I dont want the ferro rod. I usually have several floating around anyway.
Totally agree with your rewiew. Man, love the watch.. Which brand is? This is my favorite channel outside of Spain. Love one day having a house in Oregon. Thanks 4 your work, love the channel
I like the firesteel option, allthough not all my knives have it - joker knives are really great and you get a lot of knife for the money, leather sheath are nice, too
I don't mind a firesteel loop on a sheath, it's not a deal breaker though. Most of the time my knife is in my pack, sometomes it's nice to have a slim set up to save space.
I like the idea of having a rod with the knife, still not sure witch I prefer. I really like just getting out there and finding creative ways to enjoy the land and the tools I use
I like having the firesteel loop available for those situations when I need a firesteel close at hand. I find myself missing it on my sheaths that don't include it.
Thanks. I needed that. An explanation about the various grinds and what tasks they lend themselves best to. Mostly the Scandi grind which I have been interested in for quite some time. 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I have two mora knives and still waiting for the other two to arrive. The first I purchased was the companion stainless steel. I just discovered that the last inch of the blade is magnetic 🧲 nobody has ever mentioned this and it’s not advertised and I’m wondering if it’s just a freak oddity with my example. Any else discovered this?
The GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED! Evilxxrage is our lucky random winner. Thank you all for participating and for your support! -Aaron
Congrats Evilxxrage!
Thanks a lot for choosing me I really love this channel!
So i didn't win? Lol
Congrats on your win. It always awesome see nomatter who wins.
Congratulations
Scandi Grind: Woodworking mainly (Super sharp edge can be used for utility tasks, like draw cutting leather)

So a scandi won't cut through a tomato? Doesn't a scandi do everything a flat blade does plus more?
I bought the Nordico by Joker about a year a half ago (stainless version) and I am a huge fan.
I don't have one yet, but the many positive reviews I'm hearing make me want to change that.
So I actually like having my fire steel on a lanyard, either around my next or looped around a belt loop and in my pocket. What I really like on the sheath is a honing rod, either steel or ceramic, so I have a knife and a way to keep it sharp

Hwy Aaron, could you carry a companion blade for food prep?
I absolutely love having the firesteel loop on my sheaths!!!!it just makes life so much easier while out in the bush!!!! And making a fire that much easier to!!! Love the channel brother and thank you for the gaw!!!

I definitely like my fire steel separately. I love the Nessmuck. The blade shape and grind are perfect for bushcraft.
I usually use thicker firesteels, the loops seldom accommodate them. But I find it handy to have a steel on the knife.
I do like having a firesteel attached to the sheath as long as it's on the smaller side and secure. When they get long, they tend to snag on brush.
I don't own a sheath that incorporates a fire steele, but have modified several of my knives to include one. Scandi grinds are very prefered to me on almost all knives. If you need to chop or split wood, i use a axe
Hi, I have 2 joker knives, one with and one with-out the fire steel and I think to prefear the fire steel on the sheath for going out.
There's something beautiful about the Joker handles and leather sheaths. I don't have any sheaths with a fire steel on it, but as long as it doesn't fall out easy I dig it.

I like having a firesteel loop on my knives. it's always with your knife, so you never forget it. And it doesn't take up much room.
Love the Skinner. I do all the skinning for us. The handle would not slip when wet with blood. As for a fire steel I have no preference I carry several.

I don't like a fire steel on my knife, I keep a small pouch for fire making with me. Love your channel.
I do love having a fire steel with my Knife, but do find the having a sharpening stone on it to be more useful as it gets used far more often as I have better and quicker fire starting options in my EDC and bush craft kit.
I would prefer the fire steel attached to the sheath as it ism
convenient to get to, quick access vs searching. Great, infomative video!!
Picked up the Joker Lynx after one of your recent videos, and liked it so much I added the Nomad and the scandi Ember to my collection. Fantastic knives. Thanks for introducing me to this brand!
Unfortunately, his glowing reviews, along with their obvious beauty, have got me itching to buy several, lol. They look like fine tools.
I usually prefer sheaths simpler, without attachments and have extra gear distributed in my pockets. Great knifes. Thanks, and cheers!
Never had a knife with rod on the sheath but I do like that on the joker you can loop the cord around the rod to better secure it
I like having the fire steel on the sheath. Nice to have it easily accessible and doesn't get in the way on the sheath.
I don't necessarily need the ferrorod attached to the sheath, but I don't mind it either. I'd probably prefer a honing rod in that place, but again, it depends on my overall loadout. Most commercial sheaths don't have such a loop in the first place, so it's sadly not always an option.

I like my smaller firesteel on my sheath, and my larger one (.5 x 6 inch) in my pack. Keeps things more streamlined
I like the firesteel loop on the sheath. One stop one shop.
I like having one on the sheath for quick access, but always have a backup in a pocket, and in my water bottle carrier. When it comes to fire and cutting tools, redundancy is the best life insurance in the woods.
Love them with the fire steel lope, it gives the sheath a real pop to it.
I definitely prefer to have the fire steel loop on the sheath. It’s is just so convenient and if you don’t feel like carrying the steel for some reason you can just take it out. It’s all about convenience and options. Thanks for all the great videos I always look forward to seeing them!
Awesome review of these awesome spanish knives, i think i‘m gonna get that Nessmuk being one of the best in his categorie!👌🏽🎉👊🏽
Having a fire steel attached is convenient for sure. Always carry a backup to steel too!
My only fixed blade knives are Mora...I tend to beat them up pretty good.
Just purchased a b.o.b. love it. I was going to get a joker love the look of this blade as well. Keep on plugging I enjoy your stuff keep it coming
What a beautiful knife! I love the idea of having a fire stick available however my husband would rather not have one. We are impressed with the quality and versatility of the knife. Would love to add to our collection! Thanks for the opportunity!!
A firesteel holder on a sheath is always a plus but it is a backup to my trusty fire kit.

For this style of bushcrafty knife with leather sheath I prefer the firesteel loop on the sheath; it just completes the 'ambience' of the system.
Please do some Muela knifes. Also made in Spain, long tradition of making knifes. Good luck, and god bless :-)
I may not always carry a fire steel on the sheath but I do love the having the option. Just depends on where I’m going.
I like to have firesteel loop on there, however I usually don't use that firesteel but have it as backup, my main firesteel is on my body somewhere, pocket or latched to my belt or whatever :)
I have never had an attached fire steel, but would think it's convenient, and would like to try it.
I like the fire steel option added. Just gives another critical survival item as an add on.
Love Joker knives and think it looks great having the matching fire steel with your knife.
Love the Nessmuk with or without the fire steel attachment. Not a deal breaker as fire steel is easy to carry in any configuration.
I prefer the fire steel attached to the sheath, but also a larger one in a fire kit. Beautiful knife.
I like the fire steel loop. I don't carry it there but I like the option. I even have a ceramic rod that will fit in most loops.
As I use carry options with and without fire steels attached, I prefer with. It seems as though it makes sense to always have the ability to start a fire. My neck knife (Mora Eldris) also has a fire steel on its Kydex sheath.
Good video. I like the coverage of the grinds. Nice looking knives. I do like a fire steel lop on the sheath. You have two critical items on you.
Thanks for you video reviews. I just bought 3 of the Joker knives to add to my collection.
I really enjoy having the firesteel loop. Instead of having to dig around in my bag or pockets looking for my firesteel its right on my sheath. Very convenient.
I love fire steel holder....you know at all times where you fire steel should be....great video....👍👍👍🏴🏴🏴
I always like having a firesteel loop on a sheath. I'll carry another on me as well, but you can never have too many!
Luv the fire steel loop option. I have been looking at the Ember for a bit.
I will carry a firestarter on many of my knives if convient or built into the sheath. Often attach one to the sheath with "Ranger Bands" (bicycle innertube). Its just one less item I don't have to dig out of a pack when needed.
Yes I prefer to have the Firesteel. Definitely the way to go in my opinion. Thanks for the Opportunity to win.
Good video. I like the option of having a fire steel on the sheath. Thanks for doing videos with affordable options.
I like the idea of having a fire steel on the sheath as a back up. Great video. Beautiful knives.

I personally like the firesteel on the leather sheath with matching material to the knife handle

I love a firesteel attached to the sheath, always ready when you need it! 👍
I like the fire steel onboard.....though I usually use the kind that have a dedicated striker..

I like having the firesteel loop available for those situations when I need a firesteel close at hand. I find myself missing it on my sheaths that don't include it.
It's always a good idea to have multiple sources for making a fire.
Having a firesteel on the sheath seems like a good idea.
Thanks. I needed that. An explanation about the various grinds and what tasks they lend themselves best to. Mostly the Scandi grind which I have been interested in for quite some time. 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
