Great vid Wade, nice field sharpening kit,all of great use ,I myself carry only a DMT diafold in coarse/fine and a small leather strop pre-loaded to keep is simple and especially compact and lightweight , the diafold is very versatile for every grind I use and even great for sharpening an axe, thanks for sharing👍🏻 take care Wade
Hey buddy, I need to get a DMT stone, I know they are much faster than the DC and CC stones . Thanks for the recommendation my friend.👊
Good stuff Wade. I was thinking if I owned a 3D printer I could make a holder for my DC4 and CC4 that I could free hold or secure to a surface. Thanks for sharing
That’s a great idea. It would make it a bit more bulky but easier to use👍
Excellent field kit Wade. Hi Nova!
I've been carrying the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener for years, even at work in Produce, and I take it to my gal's place to sharpen her kitchen knives. It works great, especially since she doesn't want a lot of stuff at her place. I'm on my second one now.
I have tons of sharpening gear, from water stones to the Wicked Sharp and Work Sharp stations. I find myself just grabbing a stone and strop most of the time for giving stuff a proper work up.
Tracker/WSK knives, take a bit more finesse. Jim at Bushcraft Costa Rica does a great demos on this and I've tried to follow his methods for those multiple edges.
Thanks buddy, sounds like you’re all set, well done!!🔪👊😁
Great video! What is the jacket you’re wearing?
Thank you! It’s a Canadian Military Surplus GoreTex Field Jacket. A great bargain👍
Thanks for doing this video Wade. Very informative 👍. I found it very interesting! I hope you and your family enjoyed your Easter. Take care my friend. 🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Thanks buddy we had a very nice and quiet weekend, thanks for asking my friend. Take care and talk to you soon👊😁
Funny I just beeswaxed my adventure sworn this morning…crazy knife weirdos
Yes we are LOL! Thanks for sharing!
Great well rounded field kit, it does everything you need it to do! I think that was very helpful information and very good instruction!
Thanks for sharing Wade really enjoyed the video!
Glad it was helpful!👊🔪
Great video, I think a high convex is my favorite grind.
Also a nice high scandiVex is so fun to use .
Very strong and great to use as you said!!🔪👍
this channel is great 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it🙏
You should include a pencil eraser to clean the ceramic rods and a small Charlie to mark knife edges ..!!!!
SHARPIE.....darn spell check !!!
Some great suggestions, thank you! 👊🔪

Thanks buddy,pups are doing awesome!😀🙏
I carry an orange DMT fold out fine diamond sharpener in a cargo pocket. I have other stones and steels at home. Take care my friend. Tennessee
I need to check out a DMT stones, I know they are much faster. Thanks buddy👊
Pretty much the same things I do, but good to know I'm on the right page! Never heard of the Autosol, so thanks for that. I've been using Flitz, but I'll give your Autosol a try to see which I like better! Always open to trying new ideas!
Thanks for watching, keep up the good work. Fits is a great product as well👍
Sharpening and maintenance is a great topic to come back to from time to time; we are always learning, especially as we work with different grinds, steels and usage.
Over the last year or so, I have been using a medium sized knife in CPM-154 probably more than any other knife. It is very slicy, maintains an edge, and mostly all I do is touch it up with a ceramic rod. I did strop it once (sort of) by putting some mineral oil on it, and then running it over a rag cut out of an old t-shirt, on the edge of a wooden picnic table. I know this sounds questionable, but the knife got at least as sharp as it was new. I haven't abused the knife, so I don't know how resilient CPM-154 is vs. other steels, but I cut brush & limb saplings with it in the field, if I don't have a machete or axe with me. I was surprised how much more impressive the CPM-154 is as compared to 154CM steel. And it doesn't rot, which is a big plus where I live.
Sound excellent my friend. I’ve not tried that stropping technique but it obviously works. Thanks for sharing🔪👍
If you use an eraser you can remove most of the marks caused by the sharpening. On your ceramic stones God bless you and your family and happy camping 🏕 😀 😊 🙏. Lee
Thanks Lee , much appreciated my friend 🙏
Excellent video
Thanks
Alex
Thanks buddy👊
Your channel seems to have a direct correlation to draining my bank account...all in jest of course...great job again! Thank you! 🤪
Thanks for watching, I’ll glad I can help you spend your money LOL👍
@@Woodswalker1965 It's never ending isn't it? I try and be smart with the expenditures but there are so many cool tools, clothing, gadgets, etc. that you have I might have to start a TH-cam channel to pay for all of it. Not that I could compete with you, I am the Padawan. I'm the, do the exact opposite of what I do kind of guy...LOL. Probably get by just fine in life. Happy Easter everyone!
Very good and comprehensive video! Well done!
Thanks bud🙏
Outstanding video ! Very comprehensive, and thorough. Thanks !
Glad it was helpful , take care✌️
Cheers for that, I do pretty much the same, good tip with the car polishing stuff .👍🏻 The work sharp angle guide is superb for sharpening in the field and at home, I have a couple one I leave in my pack and one for indoors.
Thanks for watching buddy, take care!👊🔪
Nice tutorial, Wade. Great kit! I did pick up some useful pointers. I've never used "Autosol" but have used "Flitz" polishing compound. No idea which might be better. I think I'd like to try that Work Sharp, it'd help me improve my horrible sharpening angles! I mostly use my newest DMT Diamond Sharpening stone and a strop.
I have to say I love your wood shed, but, where I live, I'd be a bit worried about lingering there with venomous snakes, scorpions, black widows, fiddle-back spiders and hornets. I'm just glad we don't have fire ants here _... yet._ Hope Canada is a bit safer in that regard.
The wind in the trees and that train whistle are almost therapeutic! Actually, so are the gentle, repetitive strokes of your knife against the stones. Even though ASMR doesn't affect me as others profess, a few moments with nothing but those sounds while enjoying the scenery in your camp, beside a river/lake or, maybe, while you prepare one of your scrumptious meals might make a relaxing ASMR video (or short segment of your normal one) if you're ever so inclined! That said, I always enjoy your commentaries!
Hi Nova -- you're a beautiful lass! I hope your sister, River, is improving steadily without growing too impatient. Glad you came along to keep Wade company!! :) ---- Thanks, Wade!
Hi Randy thanks for the visit. I believe Fitz is basically the same as Autosol. I think I will try a DMT stone you are the third person today who mentioned them. The WorkSharp is worth a try my friend and it is helpful.
Take care buddy, Nova and River say Hi!
@@Woodswalker1965 Thanks! The WorkSharp is now on order and should be received next week. I look forward to trying it out (and improving the consistency of my sharpening angles!).
Hello Woodswalker,
thank you very much for all the practical info in this video; it's always nice to see how other people sharpen and maintain their gear.
May I ask you what is your jacket? From the buttons and color, I suspect it's a canadian military jacket... is it?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the question, and you are correct! It’s a Canadian Military GoreTex field jacket. I bought it very reasonably at my local milsurplus store.👍
Was it used? If so, it had been used only slightly because it looks in very good condition...
Would you recommend it?
Thanks a lot again!
I like your channel logo BTW!
I live in Canada and was wondering if you know as to where I can purchase those sharping stones you use. What type and grade are they. Thanks for the outstanding content. Please keep them coming. Cheers
Thank you my friend! I bought the stone from here. www.bushcraftcanada.com/
Another store I like a lot is
www.borealventures.com
Thank you for the information. I will check both out and hopefully be able to get one.
The auto sol you can use on your strop instead of cutting or grinding past.
Yes , I used it on my strop at the end of the video, it works well. Thanks for watching👍
Do you know if that knife "auto oil" is food safe or just on tools??
I assume it’s not food safe. I have food prep knives on me usually or I definitely wash my blades before food prep. Great question!👍
@Woodswalker1965 okay thank you always double duty my blades!!(÷
@Canadian_Craftsman In that case you can use the polish to remove the oxidation, wash it off with soap and water. After washing you should be good to enjoy that great meal in the woods!👍🌲
@Woodswalker1965 appreciate the response brotha!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Great info and demo's Wade.
Thanks very much buddy🔪👍
A great video with really helpful tips and tricks 👍. I am using almost the same kit in the field. I added a Sharpie to color the edge to the kit. Also I added a pencil eraser/rubber (the white eraser/rubber from Faber-Castell works perfect for me, costs about 1.5 Canadian Dollar). The eraser removes the grinding dust from any ceramic or diamond sharpener very easy in the field, is cheap, lightweight and small.
Thanks for the tip for the eraser, I’ll definitely pick one up!👍
@andreasb.145 - I had never thought of using an eraser for that! Good suggestion; thanks
good demo
Thank you, hope you’re well!😀
Awesome Wade. Great tips and tricks and a great explanation on all the tools and techniques.
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it🙏🔪
Great stuff Wade, take care mate 👍 🍻
Thanks, you too! 👊🍻
