I don't buy from Gamestop online because of the risk you experienced, but I do like going in Gamestop stores. Sometimes I get lucky and find a nice used JRPG for really cheap, and it's fun looking at all the games in person on the shelves.
The only thing I ever find in store is used games for $2 less than a new copy and mountains of funko pops and other junk. Their business model seems to be profiting off of people trading games in and selling toys/merchandise. hardly any new games.
@PowerSynopsis careful what you wish for, best buy is bowing out of physical movies and TV shows next year. The days of the Brick and mortar media stores appear to be numbered
I used to work at Funcoland, which was a retro game shop bought out by GameStop 20+ years ago. My manager would have us discount the “new” shelf copy by a few bucks. I don’t know why that practice wasn’t continued other than pure greed. GameStop’s failure isn’t undeserved.
I gave Gamestop another shot with this sale. I was shocked when 1 of the 9 games I bought was sealed, 7 were opened and the last 1 had a generic case saying it was used with a new label on it. That game also had inserts in the case from a different game from a different publisher. I returned that game to my local Gamestop 1 hour after I opened the paper envelope.
Honestly I feel like a 50/50 split is the best you can hope for when ordering "new" games from GameStop these days. Heaven forbid if you ever try to order any retro game from them, you'll be lucky if they even send you the right game in that situation.
You did way better than me. 6 games purchased “new”. 1 sealed, 5 open. The 5 open had that sticker to keep them closed that leaves very sticky residue behind. Of the open, 1 had DLC codes where the insert was bent all to hell and the codes were used! 4 had damaged artwork due to damaged cases. 1 had a broken case. Their reputation is well earned.
I am shocked...SHOCKED I TELL YOU!!! I can't believe that you didn't get any generic cases, you lucked out with this haul! Great pickups as well, lot of games that are on my radar.
I’m glad for you Emily, you got very lucky with this order, buying from GameStop’s online store is such a roll of the dice, I’ve seen several other videos and people get some terrible “new” stuff most of the time
I used to work at gamestop, usually the reason you get opened new games is because its the last/only copy in stock and your not allowed to cancel someones order unless you don’t have it in stock so opened games end up getting sent out.
Dang, I knew ordering online and picking up in store was a gamble, but I was hoping having an order shipped to you would come from a central warehouse where everything is sealed. NEW = SEALED
Star Ocean 2 was the peak (and one of the greatest soundtracks you'll ever hear). It was all downhill after that. Star Ocean 3 is worth playing just for the absolutely bonkers ending alone. You also don't need to play Crisis Core at all before Remake. There's a spoilery reason why so I'll leave it at that.
I bought original Myst on ps1 from GameStop & they advertised it as new CIB but I received a used copy in generic dvd case! I usually just go to the stores in person to hit the sales cause you can pick out the ones you want personally in hand! Great pic ups Emily!!
I finally got fed up about a year ago. I no longer shop GS online. I only go in store, and only when they are having a sale. Also, I never buy from third party vendors on Walmart or Amazon. Been burned there too.
I picked up four PS5 games and got 2 sealed and 2 of those opened new versions. Star Ocean, Foresaken, Calisto Protocol, and Scarlet Nexus for under 50. Happy with that sale on games I wasn’t eager to pick up on release. Keep enjoying those SRPGs.
I love how you called such well-crafted attention to GameStop’s “Opened but New” sales model. Maybe I’m unreasonable, but if it’s opened, it’s used. To me, it’s that simple.
I did an in store pick up of Labyrinth of Galleria for the PS5. The clerk was going into the draw where they store their open games, only to find one that was still sealed! I was very happy 😃
I binged watch some of your videos and I like it a lot. Your content are very informative and direct. I hope you will make more videos at your most comfortable phase. Thank you and keep it up!
Thankfully, GameStop hasn’t been too bad. I’ve only had a few games with the generic case and luckily my local GameStop was able to switch out the case for me. I bought Live a live and Triangle Strategy. They were new and sealed.
As I collector myself, I can relate to this a lot. There are many videos on TH-cam sharing poor customer experience with purchases, trade-ins and used console grading. I dropped an email to GameStop's Board of directors to let them know, that these acts are disrespect towards their customers and they are misleading them by lying about the item condition. We'll see if they bother at all.
I partook in that exact same sale from Gamestop. I ordered 8 games 7 shipped. when they arrived 3 were sealed 4 were opened. It wouldn't be that bad but all of them had those annoying stickers, one of which had 3 of them WTH. I was surprised to see that none of yours came with those. Luckily i didn't get any generic cases. Great Vid!
The OEM Nintendo parts you can get from their online store are a godsend. They even have replacement 3DS cases, or at least, they still had them back in July...
I think if you just completely tune out the story Forspoken can be pretty fun to play. Can be hard to do sometimes though, there's multiple points where the game just prevents you from moving while it talks at you for far too long and since it's not a cutscene you can't even skip it. Stranger of Paradise is actually really good, the only real flaw with it is the graphics and that's only because Team Ninja was only given like 11 months to make the whole game and they prioritized the gameplay.
I usually have positive interactions at my local GameStops and it's one of the few dedicated video game shops in my area. So I'm somewhat of a GameStop apologist. But at this point, I've pretty much completely given up ordering *anything* from their website. Even with ordering for in-store pickup, I still managed to get hit with the dreaded "new" open-box game. At least purchasing games strictly in-store allows me to actually see the product I'm buying (for the most part).
I just made my 1st order from online GameStop, 3 Nintendo switch games and 6 ps5 games all bought brand new. Half of them came used and they had the GameStop case not even wrapped.
I just want to let you know that the copies you got are most likely display copies, not pre-owned. It seems to be a store by store practice but a lot of locations will remove the new sticker on the case and then place it in the baggie "sealing" it. Some locations won't accept returns on new games with the baggie opened, sighting it as now used... Even though you may just be checking the condition they sold the item to you in. I bought a PS5 Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and received it in a PS4 game case. When I checked the disk, it was extremely dirty and had a scratch on it. Thankfully the employee at my local store was very kind about it and let me exchange it for a used copy that was in better condition! What a crazy experience.
Some great choices there. I have a few of them - mostly the Square Enix ones, although they're still sat on my backlog. I'm not in the US, so I wasn't aware that Gamestop was notorious for this sending out opened games as new. That's wild.
I've only ordered one thing from Gamestop online and that was my Series X. Fortunately it arrived in one piece and was not opened previously. Generally I order from VGP or Amazon. Though I have had a couple of minor issues with Amazon. I've only played the first two hours of Forspoken. What I have played was enjoyable enough so I was glad to get it. Got mine for $25 cdn. Final Fantasy will always have that special place in my life. It is how I met my wife. Was playing #2 on my psp at work on a break and she came up to me because she recognized the music. Asked if I was playing FF. I said yes. The rest they say is history.
Gamestop closed down the last of its game shop in year 2020 in my country. And I have seen same kind of progress in other EU countries. I actually made video 'Unboxing GameStop Deals Packages' and realized that it was made 3.7.2020. But solid pickups anyway!
I also want to give you a few non spoiler tips on Tactics Ogre Reborn. Crafting manuals are kind of hidden and don't become available until act 2, once you get to act 2, buy crafting manuals where you would find consumable items at the very bottom. Whenever you get +1 weapons some are more powerful, but some like the 2H swords Zweihander will have a chance to effect breached which reduces defense by 50%. Baldur Bow will have the status effect silence. These will rarely take effect. However any active skill that guarantees 100% hit percent also guarantees these will effect the enemies, so archers will stop mages from acting. Additionally, status effects and buffs last upwards of five turns and you can buy almost any status effect or buff from the shop. You can use them one space away from any character but beast tamers have the lobber skill that allows you to throw the items much like a chemist in FFT. Not only is breached available to cut defense but you can also cut 50% attack power from anyone including bosses with weaken and cut magic attack power by 50% with spoilspell. This makes the beast tamer one of the most important classes in the game. Revival stones when used against allies will allow the revived allow to take an immediate action. I think these are some important things to know. I didn't go into too much detail aside from these two specifics so you can figure things out on your own.
Fun video! I ordered final fantasy strangers in paradise and it came opened lol. Also, please play tactics ogre, it’s so good. One of my favorite games. Of course when you can :)
I didnt see Stranger Of Paradise for $10 as i would have picked that up too. I found Valkyrie Elysium Ps5 $10 New Atelier Ryza 3 PS4 $30 New Octopath Traveler Ps4 $15 New I only got Octopath 2 so far and it came in a preowned case aswell.
I don’t know what happened. I liked buying from GS online before cuz they didn’t gut their games like the retail store. I bought about 9 games from the sale and only Crisis Core was sealed. Anyways, good content. Happy TH-cam brought me here.
I've often get my games at GameStop. The worst I've ever encountered regarding their business practices is the whole 'Paying for the Game Brand New, Get an Unsealed Copy.' That was a few years ago, after Christmas. Bought a good chunk of games with a Gift Card. The game I bought new was A Hat in Time on the Switch, a game I've already owned on PS4, but I mainly bought the Switch version because the game's DLC came out early on that platform. Bought it New, but ended up getting it unsealed. Still came with a Download code for the Seal the Deal DLC that still worked when I redeemed it, but still.
Yeah I used to work at GameStop, we as an employee got to take home a game and we had to open them and not use any codes, most likely those games were played once but if they send those that means it was the last copy they had I wouldn’t return them because then you’ll miss out on the deal, at least they were 75% to 50% off. Sorry that happened to you but happened to me as well.
I've had about the same luck when buying new online from gamestop. Luckily there are about 6 stores locally so it's really easy for me to exchange then. What I will say abhor them being opened new is that most of the rings what you pay is for the games is still way cheaper than the used price.
Some great games! I recently bought Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and a couple of other games (including The Lord of the Rings: Gollum) for PlayStation 4. I do own a PlayStation 5 but since usually the PS5-upgrade for the PS4-disc is free, I go for that because it gives me access to two games instead of just one. Also, while I do understand the issue regarding selling opened games as new there's also the side of stores that do such a thing that I understand. Locally I have toy stores and even an actual game store that open copies to serve as display models since they have no other means of displaying these products. When all sealed copies sell out, the opened copy will be sold at full price. I personally would rather get an unopened copy where possible but I wouldn't say no to an already opened copy simply because I myself will open it anyway. Selling games in generic cases is an issue to me, though. I have no experience with GameStop since it's not a store my country knows but if those types of games aren't sold as 'loose disc/cartridge' or at some kind of reduced price, it's basically a big finger to the customer saying "Here' s the game. Be happy." Anyway, great video, by the way. I am a new viewer of your channel so forgive me if you have showed it or talked about it already, but have you played Scarlet Nexus? It's a recommendation from me if you haven't.
You did well with your GameStop pickup! Congrats! I’ve received the generic box with a new sticker, and sent it back. It wasn’t a big deal when return shipping was free, but now that they charge for return shipping I won’t buy new games from them anymore unless it’s a preorder. Btw, you can buy a pack of new switch cases to swap out from the Nintendo store online. I’ve done that with some of my “new” GS games.
just an fyi nintendo will sell brand new switch cases in 5 packs on their store for cheap, so if you buy used switch games you can pick up some blanks and just swap in the cover/inserts to a brand new OEM case
I ordered a few from this sale for store pickup and told my husband if I get there and they’re in generic cases I’m immediately returning/cancelling the order but to my surprise all three were factory sealed. I also got Forspoken for $17.50 as well as Scarlet Nexus and Tales of Arise for $5 each. I already owned Tales of Arise on Xbox but never opened it and I switched to PlayStation so I wanted to get it for that to hopefully play one day.
I have the collector's edition of Labyrinth of Galleria, and it's a really interesting collector's edition: it comes with a board game in the box and a big cloth board for the game. Did you play the first game? I played about 15 hours of it but then moved on to a different game... I'm 99% sure it was GameStop that I had a terrible experience with over a collector's edition preorder... they hadn't charged me yet, and I needed to change my payment method because my bank had decided to replace the credit card to which it was to be charged... they said they couldn't do it, and that I would have to cancel and preorder again. I told them that that was not an option, because the preorders for the game had sold out on the same day that they became announced. The woman on the phone didn't seem to understand at all. It was a very weird situation and I thought they would have someone competent who knew about games on their support line. (Everyone else I've talked to at GameStop has an understanding of these things.) Don't remember how I got it resolved in the end, but thankfully, it was resolved suitably and I got my game. I don't know how a company that is considered THE gaming company in the US can be so incompetent sometimes.
No, I've yet to play Labyrinth of Refrain! It's on my ever growing backlog 😅 Someday I'll give it a go along with all the first person dungeon crawlers I've amassed lol. And I really don't understand how this company either. I'm sure their days are numbered, the meme stock stuff just extended their life span just a little bit I guess.
I played the demo of Forspoken and quite enjoyed it. The only thing though is that the demo is almost exclusively combat with no cutscenes. It was the cut scenes that attracted a lot of the criticism both for their quality and frequency so the full game experience may be different. The magic was fun though albeit quite complex. I imagine this is one of those games you have to play exclusively or get very confused swapping between systems. It's at the kind of price now where I'd jump in* but it will probably drop to PS+ before I get around to it. * if Baldur's Gate 3 ever gives me my life back 😄
I really enjoyed Forspoken. The same is true for FF Stranger of Paradise. I think there have been some quite out of kilter expectations of new games recently. I really think you will enjoy both if you just approach each for what it is. I get a lot of my games from Amazon here in the UK and it is usually OK but recently I ordered a PS4 physical edition of Legend of Nayuta and was sent the Switch version. It took about a month to sort out. So, I ended up just getting the digital edition as I wanted to play it.
Good to know you had good experiences with both titles! I agree, I think some outlets enjoy sensationalizing & stirring up drama with certain games. It's a shame that the sensationalizing trickles down and makes many hesitant to try the games for themselves. And yikes! Weird that Amazon took so long to sort out that issue for you. I've noticed here in the US they're becoming less reliable as a game retailer unfortunately.
Strangers of Paradise has top tier combat. The story and aesthetics are a bit more hit and miss. Still, 8/10 for me overall and a good addition to your collection.
@@filejacker00 Ah sorry I read your question too quickly and say 'play' as 'get' lol. But no not yet, I wanted to play the first game before getting the sequel.
Also got Tactics Ogre, Crisis Core, and Stranger of Paradise 😅 Everything but Stranger of Paradise was sealed. It came in the original box, but opened with two stickers on it/the little dent in the lower back of the case as you described.
seems everyone is buying those games now that they are on sale lol I got them (all on PS4) a few months ago when they were on sale on Amazon, but Stranger of Paradise for $10 is a steal (as long as it is complete in box, no damage)
I thought Forspoken was fun and the narrative is fine. And I really liked The Divine Force. I hope you have a good time with your new games. Thanks for sharing!
Honestly, Gamestop is a shop I stopped shopping at like for a while. I only got a game Nayuta Boundless Trails at a gamestop by my aunts house while I stayed there for a week last week because I was doing errands for her and figured why not. It was last copy with brand new seal like wrapped properly from factory... Figured I'd buy it cuz the guy was chill and one of the best employees I'd dealt with in recent years, and yeah. Either way I have dealt with a LOT from them and hated how even with New you have to roll the dice with them. I've seen people getting CARTS ONLY for Switch in a CD envelope and it's marked/priced as "New". Also I know for a fact I heard Crossbell Music somewhere in there from Trails from Zero... I loooove that game!!
I like that Hades statue behind you. I also ordered some games maybe a week ago. I got Persona 5 Royal 1more edition, Metroid Prime Remastered, Cult of the Lamb Deluxe Edition, and Blasphemous 2. good thing Gamestop sent me all new games because I'm not planning to open them and I feel bad to those who received opened packaging. thank you for sharing
To explain why people get generic cases with New stickers- It's not that they're preowned. This used to happen at my store when I worked there all the time. GameStop sends their online orders to stores that are closer to the destination or just to offload their work overflow onto other stores so that they can handle the large amount of traffic. The manager who worked at my store before I started working there threw away a large majority of cases because there wasn't enough room on the shelves. When I started working there, in order to display the games that weren't being shown on the shelves (which was about 350 games in total), I had to make generic cases and label them as new so that people knew we had them in stock. ALL of our new games are supposed to be gutted, put behind the counter, and displayed on the shelf. In the event that someone orders a game we only have 1 copy left of, you're getting an open one with a sticker on it. Then, if someone steals a case (which actually happens way more than you'd think), or it just gets lost, then we have no choice but to send it in a generic case because it was our last copy and don't have any other case for it.
I don’t think I’ve ever thought about level caps in a game. That sounds really cool. Also, they do have brand new stickers that they put on the cases and they probably just peeled those off.
From this deal most of mine were opened, then I had two sealed and two generic. One of the generics was literally coming apart in pieces, but other the case itself was a PS4 double disc so I moved it in there. Luckily all the discs themselves were fine.
Strangers of Paradise: Final Fantasy is a great game. The main character is hilarious with how little of a crap he gives about everything that is not chaos. I will say that the game is pretty hard. It's very similar to the Nioh games, but it's a little easier than them. Overall a great experience, but if you don't enjoy souls likes, I would still give it a shot, but it's really frustrating sometimes
I laughed out loud at your title. I purchased 6 games, not one was sealed. Thankfully I didn’t get any generic cases. Ordering from GameStop is so risky, it’s crazy how much of a scam it is now.
Crisis Core was so fun. I finished it back in March of this year. It's not too long either. I was able to finish it in 17 hours. I also found the standard difficulty was a bit easy and played the game on hard mode.
Man that labyrinth of galleria looks cool. You weren't kidding that game is difficult to find. I ordered valkyrie elysium and calisto protocol. For 5 and 10 dollars each that's hard to beat. However I'm holding out for the switch version of crisis core to drop in price. I like rpg's on switch just due to the handheld aspect. Hope that final fantasy you picked up is decent. I heard bad things about it and talked myself out of getting it. Kinda wishing I would have picked it up now to see for myself.
Tactics Ogre Remake is fantastic, I loved it so much I did the work to buy the PSP “Let Us Cling Together” version digitally so I could have it on my Vita, there are some subtle differences. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it
past gamestop employee here- As a collector, I absolutely HATE the fact that they require their employees to gut a game and use it as display and claim that it is new. However, I can shed some light on the 'new' games that show up in the generic gamestop cases. There are times where kids/people/ect will five finger discount the display game case that is on the floor, however the disc or cartridge is still new inside of the game drawer behind the counter. In that case, gamestop directs its employees to print generic cover art for it and continue to sell it as new because the disc/cartridge has never been used before. Personally I disagree with the practice, I believe they should just sell it used if the case has gone missing, however that's not their logic for whatever reason. :( Loved the video Emily! You definitely got some great games at killer prices! ♥
Im glad your order went well Emily. I usually only pick up games in store but, i don't mind getting the display copies at a good price or even if its a rare game and its all they have. Great video as always!
@@orbalology No problem! That's unfortunate. Game hunting in person is always more fun in my opinion. I'm fortunate enough to have 3 locations all within 15 minutes of where I'm at.
Great grabs. I havent been able to find Labyrinth of Galleria anywhere at retail. I'm gonna have to resort to Ebay and grab a used PEGI copy ㅜㅜ. At least you didnt get any generic case.
Not bad!! They were on life support until the stock rally by retail investors a few years ago. Their business model doesnt seem sustainable long term, but they will be kept afloat for a while. As bad as their practice is of gutting new copies, im still glad they exist overall.
Nice haul! And great video 👍 I did an online order for new games, and with my Pro Membership I got an additional 10% off: Mario Strikers Battle League $26.99 (sealed) Big Brain Academy: Brain vs Brain $13.49 (sealed) Game Builder Garage $13.49 (sealed) Tekken 7 PS4 $8.99 (sealed) Star Ocean The Divine Force PS5 $9.00 (opened, minor damage in the form of a few very small holes) Little Nightmares II PS4 $8.99 (opened, with some damage to case, mainly the bottom left of the back had a small cut. Worse than Star Ocean's damage) I may go in-store to look for a replacement for Little Nightmares II in particular, and maybe Star Ocean.
Funny that Forspoken was the only sealed game I got as well. The other 3 new games were opened. Worse was that 2 of the opened switch games were used, you can tell my the gold contacts. I shipped it all back for a refund except for the sealed Forspoken.
I stopped buying new games at GameStop a long time ago. It’s kind of heartbreaking to get an opened game when you expected a sealed game. At least you didn’t get any generics and the prices all seemed fair even if some were used.
Nice pickups Emily. I just went and ordered Stranger of Paradise after watching this. I remember pulling out big boxes of DS game cases from the GS dumpster like 15 years ago. It's a shame they are still doing this. Still though, there are deals to be found! I actually still have those cases in a drawer. I should probably go through them.
Fortunately, of the five games I ordered, three were sealed and only two were open, but clean, complete and undamaged with all of the original inserts included.
Forspoken was really fun. I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was a bit too short though at 17 hours. That was my first star ocean and I really enjoyed it as well. Lots of fun and interesting story. Grabbed quite a few games from the sale. I just went in store though. Some were a bit cheaper. I think I paid like $4.50 for strangers of paradise? The best was street fighter 6 collectors edition for 57 bucks!
exciting video, it reminds me I still have Star Ocean and Tactics Ogre sitting on the shelf to start. I don't think I will get the new Star Ocean game right away, I need to play backlog games more this year and keep new game purchases down.
Managed to get Street Fighter 6 Collector's Edition and Dead Island 2 Hell-A Edition for 95 bucks. Dead Island 2 came in with a few holes in the shrink wrap but otherwise new condition. Street Fighter 6 still hasn't been shipped yet. Otherwise, I got Goat Simulator 3 and Scarlet Nexus for the Xbox One/Series X in person for $5 each. Both were gutted so no shrink wrap. Just grabbed the discs from a drawer behind the cover and put em in their cases. Their business practices leave a lot to be desired
I ordered a new game, but received a "gutted" copy once. The store I went to didn't want to give me a refund, but they eventually exchanged it for a either a gift card or store credit card although reluctantly. I just don't take chances with them anymore especially after hearing about how stores don't receive the same amount of pre-order bonuses as the actual pre-orders now too. I'll only shop from them if I go out of my way to visit a store.
I mentioned this in the community post, the last time I ordered "new" games on sale at GS, I got two opened shelf copies. As far as I could tell they had never been played, but one of the games was Psychonauts 2, which has a beautiful lenticular cover. It has SO much shelfwear, like worse than any of the PS2 games I've had since the mid 20-00s. Even at half price, I still felt ripped off; if they had sold them Used for the same price, it would have been less hurtful.
I got 2 games from last week’s sale and both came sealed (Divine Force and Callisto Protocol.) I felt extremely lucky and now I’m terrified my luck will run out any minute now 😖😆
I don't buy from Gamestop online because of the risk you experienced, but I do like going in Gamestop stores. Sometimes I get lucky and find a nice used JRPG for really cheap, and it's fun looking at all the games in person on the shelves.
It's great to have a local store you can go in & see what they have! Unfortunately my local store closed back in 2020.
The only thing I ever find in store is used games for $2 less than a new copy and mountains of funko pops and other junk. Their business model seems to be profiting off of people trading games in and selling toys/merchandise. hardly any new games.
Can we have a class action lawsuit against GameStop for sending new games opened?
Add in all those generic case 'new' games, I think it would be an easy win.
I would love to watch them get screwed.
Dang GameStop is the worst. Selling new games without the plastic wrapper. Smh
Gamestores have done this forever, usually with the final copy in stocks. I do agree that there is no way a generic case should count as new
@PowerSynopsis careful what you wish for, best buy is bowing out of physical movies and TV shows next year.
Omg! I loved funcoland I used to shop there all the time great place and always fair
Gamestop definitely needs a course correction if they're going to survive. Good to see you didn't get generic cases.
For games marked as new I would legit be intent to return a game that was delivered in a generic case.
I was shocked too lol
Star Ocean: The Divine Force is really fun. Lots of exploration and cool combat.
Don't worry about the backlog boogieman; collecting is its own game ✌️
Games are for fun, not adding stress.
Tactics Ogre is a classic, I hope you enjoy it.
Nice pick up with Tactics Ogre. Can't wait for Final Fantasy Tactics if it's really coming. Happy gaming 😊😊😊
Always fun to see what you have picked up. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
I did an in store pick up of Labyrinth of Galleria for the PS5. The clerk was going into the draw where they store their open games, only to find one that was still sealed! I was very happy 😃
Oh nice! Glad you were able to score a sealed one :)
Liked for the Trails music in the background. Game hauls are fun. Thanks for sharing.
I love the aesthetic of how you have your collection displayed. It looks classy!
Thank you!
What a crazy experience.
yo strangers of paradise is not a generic story. Sure at the start it is, but it is suprisingly compelling towards the end. BASED JACK
Good pick ups. Completely forgot GameStop was still in business. 😅
I can feel the nervousness on opening the box lol even i had anxiety of you opening them lol just cause i had the same fear of any damage lol
Some great choices there. I have a few of them - mostly the Square Enix ones, although they're still sat on my backlog.
I'm not in the US, so I wasn't aware that Gamestop was notorious for this sending out opened games as new. That's wild.
It really is wild they've gotten away with this for so long 😔
Have had the same experience with Gamestop, thankfully just "new/opened" not generic cases.
Aww, that's awesome!
Stopping my video now to say that Sword and Fairy collectors edition looks so clean right there 👏🏼
The steelbook is gorgeous 😍
Fun video! I ordered final fantasy strangers in paradise and it came opened lol. Also, please play tactics ogre, it’s so good. One of my favorite games. Of course when you can :)
Do yo know that any new game that was opened is an automatic $5 off that game? but they won’t give it to you unless you ask about it.
I didnt see Stranger Of Paradise for $10 as i would have picked that up too.
I found Valkyrie Elysium Ps5 $10 New
Atelier Ryza 3 PS4 $30 New
Octopath Traveler Ps4 $15 New
I only got Octopath 2 so far and it came in a preowned case aswell.
I bought Forspoken too. I thought it was pretty tempting. The game supposedly had a solid DLC too
I don’t know what happened.
Oh Genesis Noir was my surprise hit last year…. Sooo good. Read nothing, just load it and experience it.
Oh hell yeah. I unabashedly love haul videos 😂
Be happy."
Anyway, great video, by the way. I am a new viewer of your channel so forgive me if you have showed it or talked about it already, but have you played Scarlet Nexus? It's a recommendation from me if you haven't.
Haha that’s what happened to me too. They seemed to ship them from multiple stores. I returned them all.
I've picked up preorders that I fully paid for on release day and had them opened and covered in stickers. Not even preorders are safe from Gamestop
just an fyi nintendo will sell brand new switch cases in 5 packs on their store for cheap, so if you buy used switch games you can pick up some blanks and just swap in the cover/inserts to a brand new OEM case
(Everyone else I've talked to at GameStop has an understanding of these things.)
Don't remember how I got it resolved in the end, but thankfully, it was resolved suitably and I got my game.
Nice pick up! Did you ever manage to play Blue Reflection - Second Light yet?
I have it on the Switch! Though I missed out on the restock VGP had for the PS4 version. May keep an eye out if they reprint/restock it again.
@@orbalology Yeah i remember you picked it up a while ago from an old pick-ups vid, just wondered if you'd got around to playing it.
It came in the original box, but opened with two stickers on it/the little dent in the lower back of the case as you described.
seems everyone is buying those games now that they are on sale lol
I got them (all on PS4) a few months ago when they were on sale on Amazon, but Stranger of Paradise for $10 is a steal (as long as it is complete in box, no damage)
Picked up Metroid Dread on this sale and got lucky with an actual brand new sealed copy!! Great video Emily!
Nice to see them come in good condition!
I was a manager at GameStop for a couple years and have so many horror stories from working there! I shop there very little now🤷🏻♂️
I thought Forspoken was fun and the narrative is fine.
My games come in on Monday, I’ll let you know how it goes! Awesome video!!!
The Zagreus pop up parade statue is a recent addition :)
Nice grabs! I'm really building up my PS5 collection, and HOPEFULLY I'll actually get around to playing them soon...😅
Forespoken is underrated, specially after the patches. It runs pretty good, really enjoyed your video 👏
The most wonderful time of the year for game collectors is right around the corner....can't wait! :)
I'm looking forward to all the Black Friday & holiday sales too!
I think they reduced FF Origin to $5 since I purchased my copy. May be worth considering if stores do another wave of discounts over Black Friday.
Thank you! Ah, I really wish I had a local store closer to me. The one that was in town closed in 2020 sadly.
Hope you can find a well priced copy for that one! It's so wild that the NIS titles are going out of print/stock within a year these days.
Not bad!!
They were on life support until the stock rally by retail investors a few years ago. Their business model doesnt seem sustainable long term, but they will be kept afloat for a while.
As bad as their practice is of gutting new copies, im still glad they exist overall.
Nice haul! And great video 👍
I did an online order for new games, and with my Pro Membership I got an additional 10% off:
Mario Strikers Battle League $26.99 (sealed)
Big Brain Academy: Brain vs Brain $13.49 (sealed)
Game Builder Garage $13.49 (sealed)
Tekken 7 PS4 $8.99 (sealed)
Star Ocean The Divine Force PS5 $9.00 (opened, minor damage in the form of a few very small holes)
Little Nightmares II PS4 $8.99 (opened, with some damage to case, mainly the bottom left of the back had a small cut. Worse than Star Ocean's damage)
I may go in-store to look for a replacement for Little Nightmares II in particular, and maybe Star Ocean.
Funny that Forspoken was the only sealed game I got as well. The other 3 new games were opened. Worse was that 2 of the opened switch games were used, you can tell my the gold contacts. I shipped it all back for a refund except for the sealed Forspoken.
Me too. 5 of 6 opened. I'm taking them back.
I ordered 12 "New" games this week. 4 were sealed. Some had sale stickers on the artwork and one had the plastic on the case ripped.
I stopped buying new games at GameStop a long time ago. It’s kind of heartbreaking to get an opened game when you expected a sealed game. At least you didn’t get any generics and the prices all seemed fair even if some were used.
The best thing to do is support your local game store they tend to take better care of the games and you get to see if there actually new in person
You may have some sought after ds cases! And maybe some ones that'll be easy to find loose to complete.
I think they lowered the price to $5 for Strangers of Paradise right after I placed my order 😭
exciting video, it reminds me I still have Star Ocean and Tactics Ogre sitting on the shelf to start.
Oh no! I'm surprised they kept the slipcase on the floor copy :(
Thanks for sharing your pickups Dr. Emily. Your hair is looking great, as usual :)
I got 2 games from last week’s sale and both came sealed (Divine Force and Callisto Protocol.) I felt extremely lucky and now I’m terrified my luck will run out any minute now 😖😆
