      I would check your intake boots,sounds like an intake leak and you need to adjust valves to fix that knock.

    After you find all the things about that bug you will either hate it or love it. Most people will love it. It is the easiest car you will ever work on. The dash wiring is behind the plastic cover under the front hood, very easy to reach.

      Hey kevin I'm grateful for you guys actually watching me work on old junk! I don't know yet, it has a lot of dents we will just have to see. Maybe matte finish? The straight pipes without muffler to the 1974 car on boxer running motor 1600cc Can be loud but run at not more than 1,500 rpm in street driving can be quiet because brand new engine is 4 times louder than used motor but if you know that it rev very high then it would pitch too loud and making the stator in generator or coil in alternator with external regulator under rear seat into too high current power.Resonator will make the motor to run not tacking.

    There all good: it's a VW. what it all comes down to, you have a diamond you found in the rough. how much is it worth to you...
    In the world of auto manufacturing, it is one of the most sought after these days: Parts can be had for it all around the world.
    OEM parts. as for the ticking sound, typical, but I'm not there, those heads are known for getting a lose value seat or plural,
    in other words getting beat down in to the head, if you have a loss one and after it is adjusted and it happens again, pull the
    head, or pull both heads and get them cleaned up. or exchanged for fresh heads: or buy a new head, simple,
    as for the rust, new metal, your welding skills will vastly improve if your a serious about making it right:
    but do not mess with the serial number tags. the state gets really touchy about people messing with them.

      Also I forgot the size but get the stock looking cloth fuel hose that’s rated for ethanol fuel,move the fuel filter between transmission and engine (out of engine bay) and get stainless fuel clamps and stainless safety wire and run it from clamp to screw on carb and from fuel pump to hose because if the line comes off it will spray on distributor and catch car on fire and good luck putting out a magnesium fire.if the engine bay seals are bad you may want to drop engine and replace them otherwise it’ll suck heat from bottom side of engine through fan and make engine run hot

    Them oil motors every time you change oil in them adjust the rocker arms they get loose over time

  • @chriscraven33
    @chriscraven33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Valves need adjusting every 3000 miles, VW 's run hot and need oil changing every 300 miles but all we had was 30 oil etc ,,, synthetic oil would holdup better.

    • @muzzcovw7674
      @muzzcovw7674 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      3000 miles not 300. And BTW synthetic doesn't play well with these. For some reason it doesn't shed heat as easily and that's half the cooling system

  • @theblindredneck747
    @theblindredneck747 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just putting it out there, you need to run zinc in your oil because of the non hydraulic valves. You can also run diesel oil with zinc already in it. I don’t know if yours is the engine with out an oil filter but if it is you might be better off to run diesel oil because it has zinc and a better detergent package. I personally would run 15-40 it’s a little bit thicker it won’t thin out as bad in the summer with the higher engine temperatures it being air cooled.

    The ticking sound is normal. You may want to adjust the valves but be sure you do it to specs. It will still have a ticking sound. There is a short piece of hose between the gas tank and solid fuel line coming to the engine. As old as it is that is more than likely where your gas went. You are doing well with the bug.
