- Will this 1970 opel run after 41 years in the woods the last time this car was on the highway was 1970 then it was parts due to a unknown reason watch and see if we can get this classic running after 41 years will it run after 30 years

To be fair, Opels were pretty good until they became simply rebadged Vauxhalls. Back then, they made it to the Hong Kong market and were noted, which was a great achievement that Skoda, Vauxhall and pretty much every American brand never had.
They did a lot better than Rover, Citroen, FIAT and Saab in that competitive market too, because I never saw a Rover outside a picture, and have only heard of SAABs and being sold there in many years of living there, while Citroens and DS's became manager cars due to hopeless sales figures, and FIAT 500s are still stuck in warehouses in the hundreds. I do remember Opels roaming about in the early-mid 2000s though, so they at least made it out there.

I collect Opels...
My father was a engineer at Opel and my mother's family owns several dealerships in Bavaria.
In 2017 I purchased a 69 coupe that Major in the United States Army bought for his wife to drive while stationed in Germany.
They brought it home with them.
When I bought it it had 38k.
It even had ice cold air installed by the Buick dealership.
I drove it 1050 miles home without a single issue.
Opel is always better choice than VW ,even newer cars ..

@@BokulaA Opels were basically very good cars, but in the USA they were never marketed aggressively because Detroit didn't want the USA home market taken over by a superior product from the Opel division.

Opel is part of the automobile history.
Here in Brazil its models were made under Chevrolet brand.
Remarkable models as Opala, Chevette, Kadett and others, were, during decades, over the Brazilian's prefered automobiles. Most of them can't, even today, figure they were driving an Opel instead a Chevrolet piece of engineering.
I owned a 1969 Opel Kadett station wagon for 26 years with that 1.1 engine with twin carbs. Great little cars!

I was stationed in Germany 80-85. Had a 72 Opel record 4 door. great car and never had a problem with her. Over the years as I've gone back, I've always rented the newer Opel Diesels. Great cars.
Opel was Germany's GM subsidiary. The same thing happened to British Vauxhall and Australian Holden. That one is an Opel Kadett and it's a damn good car!
A mechanic had two Kadett C's here in my hometown, I drove one of them for half an hour on dir roads and that RWD was the most fun thing I'd put my hands on.
Vauxhall's version of the Kadett was the Viva. Holden's Torana was based on the Viva. The Torana started with a 1200cc four and grew up into the GTR XU1 variant - with a 3.3litre triple carb six.

RIP to Holden... So many phenomenal muscle cars were made by them (mainly the Monaro line). If they were exported as Holden maybe they would've survived.
Opels always had tiny engines. Well bilt and well maintained. Nice size car rides so nice . My x owned 1 still rides smoothly it is old but nice to ride in. Good luck on this car.
Those cars were built to be inexpensive, entry level transportation. No frills, no comfort, just a little better than riding the bus. My family had one, purchased new. I remember one day the axle came out of the differential housing in a left turn, with the tire and wheel still attached to the brake drum and axle! That said, it did teach me how to shift gears and lasted quite a few years. It met its demise after 8 years of faithful service when a drunk ran a red light.
In the late 1960s I had two Opel's, both Kapitan's. One in Germany a 1960 model and one in the UK, a 1959 model with right hand drive. They had 6 volt batteries originally but I converted them both with an extra 6 volt battery for starting power. The '59 model had rounded bodywork which looked like a Chevy. The '60 model had angular bodywork. Loved them both.
I bought a 1970 Opel Kadette LS Fastback, in 1971, it was my first car. Up to that point I borrowed my Dad's work car, on weekends and sometimes during the week. I was in high school and I still rode my 10 speed bike. I loved my car, it was a light blue metallic, with a sloped rear window. I altered the rear seat so I could fold it upward, and pass larger objects from the trunk through the opening. It was a 4 on-the-floor manual shifter, it had mellow humming engine & rack and pinion steering. It was the LS model,...and had some minor upgrades. I bought it in my home town, Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland processed iron ore for steel production, so there were many airborne corrosive pollutants, plus they heavily salted their roads in the winter. That was a lethal mix that contributed to our cars rusting out quickly. Even with undercoating, which was a popular add-on, to any new car. I drove it in high school, for 3 years, then drove it to my college, for 4 more years, and another year in half, then onto graduate school for 2 years. I had to sell it in 1979, because the floor boards had completely rusted out. And the door hinges were also rusted, in such away, that the doors had to be lifted into place, each time. A mechanic gave me $450.00, for it, and that seemed fair.
When I was growing up, everyone always told me to take care of things. Apparently not everyone thought that way or simply learned the lesson. I have always wondered how you can leave a vehicle abandoned for no apparent reason for so many years.
Who knows. Sometimes life happens. Maybe the owner had a new kid , or passed away. Or the owner could have had disease or mental health issues. My first car was a 1986 Plymouth Reliant LE (bought in 2016) . I loved that car ..... hated fixing it up all the time. Sold it and got me a 2000 Saturn SL2 so I could learn to drive stick. Boy oh boy, going from OHC to DOHC. Wooowwee. Bring the Power. Haha. This old Opel here has, 60 hp? My old Plymouth I believe had 86 HP and let me tell you.....driving up a steep incline I had the pedal to the floor hopin an prayin she go.

Pretty cool getting that Opel running. Reminded me of when I was stationed in Germany through the 80's. I do have to admit though that I would focus my efforts on that Jeepster. Fully restored, that puppy is big money.
Tap the top of the carburetor bowls to loosen up the needle valves.
I would invest in a fire extinguisher when your doing these engine restarts.

I love this channel. When you're creating sparks and pouring gas an occasional mishap is inevitable. Likewise getting shocks off old wiring. Both are treated with the contempt they rightly deserve.

Back when I was a kid, my neighbor had several old cars parked in his field. I loved old cars. So after school I'd drag a battery that I had charged overnight over to my neighbors field and try to start one of the old cars. My neighbor didn't mind and I had a blast. One day I was trying to start a fifties Chrysler, Got it cranking good but it wouldn't start. I was only 11 or so. Well I'm cranking this huge Chrysler and I hear Mr Swan say with a chuckle, "You'll never get that one started".." She's jumped time" ! "Needs a new chain"!! He laughed, I was sad , but I thanked him for letting me mess around with his old cars. Never felt the need to go back after that. lol. I knew I had a lot to learn about the inner workings of an engine. lol.! Next day I delivered his paper as I always did. He gave me a smile. I waved and walked to the next house. Your channel brings me back to those wonderful days so many years ago. Sure miss those days.

I used to work on these in the early 70s in ireland. Used to be able to change a clutch in 20 minutes. At high milage the gearbox housing used to wear and the lay shaft would drop too low, end of gearbox. Great little cars though.
Wow! You guys knew them as an Opel Kadett, I knew them as either an HB-model Vauxhall Viva or the first incarnation of the Holden Torana (we could get both of these models from our local GM dealer). In any guise, it's my favourite model of the three that carried the name Viva in the 60s and 70s. There's something about the swoop on the rear quarter panels and the backward rake of the rear panel that always makes me smile. That one doesn't look too bad either. A decent scrub inside and out and she'll go back on the road fine...!

Years ago, I had a friend give me for free an old Opel Record wagon. Those cars came with rectangular headlights but that one had round headlights just stuck into the sockets. Needless to say rough roads could get exciting! LOL!!!🤣 The real interesting thing about that car is that it had a 4spd. in the column. That was truly a fun car to drive.
In high school me and a buddy got a 70 opel we rebuilt the motor did body work painted it white when we were done it was a new car ran good loved it we lived in Cleveland we parked it out in front of our house a drunk driver hit it doing 60 totalled it I got so.mad I put not on his head loved that car

Opel is a german built car, sold by GM back in the day. I had a '73 Opel Manta. Sweet looking car, handled beautifully.

I know I'm commenting really late. Been laid up awhile and discovered this channel recently, so I'm catching up. Only comment i wanted to make, is i started out of tech school at this Buick dealership. Buick of course is the brand that GM sold Opels through. The dealership owner could have had about any Buick sold to drive, I would imagine. But he just loved the little Opels, he always had an Opel to drive around in. Funny. He was a real down to earth guy.

Imported by GM, when the gas crunch started. I has a 67 Opel Kadet, looked kind of like a 64 to 66 Barracuda. Same 1.1 liter with dual carbs. Was fun, but you would take out second gear if you power shifted.
My grandad's brother had a right-hand-drive '68 Kadett II in the Italian Alps when I was a kid. I used to love to sit in the passenger seat, imagining I was driving. Make it run. Then, haul that Jeepster next to it back to life.

My Dad had two Opel Kadetts. Wish I had one of them still. Great little cars, good gas mileage. One of them had carbs, the other was fuel injected.

I never knew they sold Opels in the US. This is a regular sized car in Germany around that time. It does look puny amidst its US siblings though.
Yes, they did! And in america it was not sold as the Kadett, rather as simply the 'GM Opel'. I've wanted to get ahold of one to see how they compare to other small cars of their time, namely the Volvo 144, BMW 2002, etc.
@@theinstitute1324 Interesting. My gramps had a later model kadett (C model) but a coupé version with faux leather (which was TERRIBLE on a sunny day!). I think a 1.2l. I still remember the license plate. Those are pretty hard to find nowadays, they all seemed to suffer from poor body work and rusted as you watched. I mostly remember it as a very basic gets-the-job-done type of car, but certainly a step up from your beetles etc.
Opel sold many car-lines in the US from the early 1960-ies on. most of them under the Opel-label by Buick-dealers, some renamed as Buick, but GM had no luck with selling Opel-Limousines there. one popular car was the Opel 1900 around the 1970-ies, in central-Europe known as "Ascona-A". best known car was the Opel GT. more than 50% of the GT which were built are sold to the US, nicknamed "Baby-Corvette".

Wow....My Beloved Father Had a 56 Hillman in the early sixties and a 68 Opal Kadett in the late 70s.
He paid $75 for the Opal. Put a $150 into it. My mother and him drove it to Orange Co Cali fom Long Island NY .......and back!

Rode in an Open GT, about the same year. With twin carbs and the manual trans, it should be fun to drive. Spend a little more time to get it on the road !

I worked at a Buick dealership when they were selling the later versions. The VIN tag said ADAM OPEL and the mechanics all said a damn Opel.
I grew up with a 69 Opel Kadette LS with a 1.1 liter engine and automatic transmission. Our car was a 'fastback' I am guessing this is a 1.1L engine as well. I haven't seen one in about 36 years

I learned to drive in a 66 opel wagon that was handed down from my dad. I killed it. But not before having SO much fun trail blazing through the woods and fields around me.
in the 70's I had a 69 Rally Sport and a 70 Rally Sport. Had LOTS of fun running the P-I double ss out of them. Not much power but great handling little cars.
I had three opals in my 20s. Two Mantas and one station wagon kadett!
I was a mechanic part of my life, now I have another profession, but something I miss fixing cars and burning things

I used to see a few of these on the road when I was a kid in the late '60s. Never had the chance to look under the hood.My next oldie MAY have to be a '70 Opel !

The Opel Manta Luxus was the high end model IIRC.It could be ordered with an automatic.

My buddy in high school had a cadet wagon, and that car took severe pounding on ALL THE TIME. It was a damn good car, and just kept on tickin!!!
My granddad had this model Opel Kadett B-body back in -70´s. It has a 1100 cc engine and about 55 hp. It had only one 1 barrel carb from factory.
Fix it and dont waste it. We called it "Vintage Car".

This car is Opel Kadett b-series knowing in europe. its have 1.2 Litres engine and 4 speed manual rwd. My father has many year ago similar but red color. What I remember kadett b series has very good seat
I think here in the USA it was 1.6 and in 75 it was 1.8 IIRC
Almost. The last series B from 1971 - 1973 had the 1200cc engines rated 50hp (N) and 60hp (S). Before they had the 1100cc 45 / 50 hp (N), 55 hp (S) and 60 hp (SR). All were OHV engines. Also available was the 1700 cc 75 hp and sometimes even the 1900 cc 90 hp CIH engines of the Opel Rekord. As said: this car is an interesting mix from "sort of" Opel Olympia front grille, the SR-engine, old-fashioned long stick gearbox and very basic instruments. The Kadetts very rarely came with automatic. As far as I remember it was combined with the 60 hp engines and - on higher spec models - with the CIH-Rekord engines only. And at that time few people would order a very costly and power-consuming automatic gearbox anyway. Not in a small car like that. At one time in around 1980 or so I drove a light blue Kadett-LS (4-door fastback limo) with the 1700cc / 75 hp and 3-speed automatic for some time. That worked quite good however. The automatic was a sort of miniature-sized TH400 called THM180 (no converter lock) and was made at the GM plant in Strassburg.

She sold it a few years back.
That's a funny mix. It's got the 1100cc "SR" double Solex carb (PDSI-T manual chocke IIRC) - but the long gear lever (non-Sport) gearbox along with the total basic instruments. Not even a clock given. The engine was rated 60 DIN-hp and was also used in the entry-level Opel GT 1100. Alternator is missing.

I bought the same model Opel in 1986 for $100. It was my first car. That one is in better condition than mine was back then. I'm pretty sure mine only had one carb though. The thing had a reputation for not wanting to shut off no matter what position the ley was in.
I fixed one of these, same year?//or 1969..., at Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi, Finland, I was sixteen yo, did replace universal axel, outside, when it was 25 below zero, just wanted to drive so bad,...and I did it =))), then drove on ice track near by, Good Times=))

Those early 70's Opel's were pretty stout cars. They could run a long time. Maybe this one will go back on the road ... 😁
The 1967-1973 Opel Kadett B's biggest engine option was an 89 hp 1897 cubic centimetre inline 4. A four door Opel Kadett B from 1970 with the 1897 cc engine and the four speed manual transmission would be my choice for a 1970 Opel, apart from an Opel with a V8 engine.

I had a '79 opel Kadett C coupe the later model of this car, it had a similar body shape to a chevy vega, I wish I'd kept it, they are worth serious money these days.

I had an Opel just like that one in Europe back in the eighties. It was called an Opel Ascona. Four speed. The only thing that l could pass on the Autobahn is a VW bug and a loaded beer truck 🚚. LOLOL
