    You made me remember something. From time to time at street fairs of dog shows, I give rides to people or children. Every time someone gets into a rig and the dog pulls, a smile of delight appears on their face.

      What a sweet dog he was. He sure made progress in this film, didn't he. Error... I didn't not put weight on the luggage rack to hold the shaft tip up tight.

    I would suggest teaching wait and pull before hooking him up

    I have a quick story for you: I have a two year old pitbull bird dog mix who I am training to pull. Today while i was black friday shopping, i bought Jessie (my dog) a red harness with a padded chest. This afternoon/evening I attached a firewood log to her leash. I brought her out in the road and long story short, she was amazing! She learned to walk, trot, wait, and even CANTER in around an hour!! She was tired of pulling after a while and refused to pull for a bit so I decided to carry the log while we worked on her walking, trotting, cantering and waiting. After that, I got a small baggie and filled it with pieces of dog food. This got her to pull again! Pretty soon I could have her walk and then go into a trot, go into a canter, then back to a trot, and into a walk, and then wait. She was rewarded many times!:) I was so proud of her. I then got out my little white Lhatese and did the exact same thing with him! When i was younger, I taught my Lhatese male named Duncan, how to pull me on my scooter, so it was a lot easier for him to pull the log than Jessie, but he wasn't as good or quick to learn as she was about the comands. I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks for their training and judging by the above information, how long do you think it will be before they (or at least Jessie) will be good/amazing as your dogs?:) Also, I live in Bluffton, South Carolina, which is right at the exact bottom of the state, so we aren't that far from you! One more question: Do all the dogs in your videos belong to you? If not, which ones do or do not belong to you? Just curious! Thanks for all your help and being such a great inspiration, you are my Dog Idol!!!

      Aleigh, Great results with your dogs. You would have fun I think by joining Southeast Mushers on Facebook. There are folks on that list who live within an hour of you. To run your dogs with others is really fun. My first dogs in the early videos were chinooks. Both died. I got a rottweilerXshepherd. He was terrific. He got shot. Now I have a labradoodle, shepherd mix and smooth collie. The hound who is in some of my videos belongs to a friend but I don't live there anymore so she remains a yard dog. Your question about length of training time. Would you consider buying a scooter from DogScooter.com? They learn fast when they trail ride while pulling you on a scooter.

      Thanks so much for your advice! I don't own a Facebook account, if there is any other way to look at Southeast Mushers, let me know! Again, thank you SO much for your help! I just got back from training again with my dogs. Jessie did great, still not sure about Duncan, my Lhatese, though. It is difficult for him being so little! But get back to me if you can.;)

      aleigh001 I don't know enough about Facebook to know whether you need an account. Can you open Facebook and enter Southeast Mushers in the search bar? Then you can post your quest for someone to work with. The moderator will allow the post, I think.

      Aleigh, one girl I knew trained her dog with a Radio Flyer wagon. She sat in the wagon and her dog pulled her with a rope to her harness. She was careful to use her feet to prevent the wagon from hitting the dog when she stopped. You could train your dog that way. I do sell a kit at www.chalosulky.com to convert wagons to dog wagons.

      Daphne Lewis I have a wagon, pretty sure its a radio flyer wagon, as a matter of fact. I was thinking of sawing off the boards on the front so I could sit there, but im not sure what to do with the handle for the wagon. I will check out the site and see what you have to offer!:)

    What age was your dog when you started training?

  • @branflakes7959
    @branflakes7959 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    really good video but I heard on another video that your dog should be at least 2 years of age before it pulls a cart because of it's bones or something but the other video could be wrong but I just thought I'd warn you

      that's true but that is in relation to real work with heavy weight or distance. this is desensitization, like when you put a roller on a young horse

      this is not a good video! I have had 9 smooth collies in my life, this is just a puppy, and she sounds like she is from UK, shame on her!

      He isn’t pulling any weight. The sulky is probably around 10lbs.. his body is pretty dang developed already and to be in physical condition to be able to pull over 100lbs when mature requires gradual weight increases while training.

    I tried to go into facebook but it immediately asked to log in or sign up. Also, I'm not sure if my age to work with anyone would matter or not? I'm not a "child" but I am a teenager. I'm thirteen years old, I really enjoy pulling and training my dogs to do so. If only sulkies weren't so expensive! I was going to make one with my dad but I thought it'd be too difficult with all the parts and a "real" sulky from your site would be better! But I doubt I'd be able to buy one since I don have a job, my parents usually pay for the things I want on occasion, but I don't think they'd allow me to get an actually sulky. Do u have any sites/plans to make a sulky? It would be greatly appreciated!;)

    What is the harness called that you are used on him? And is he a smooth collie?

    • @DaphneLewis
      @DaphneLewis  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is a smooth collie. The harness is a sulky harness made by Chalo Sulky.

      what the fuck! are you talking about , he is far to young, and dogs should never pull people around!

    • @Gigabitties
      @Gigabitties 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ysabelle williams matter of fact, some dogs were designed for pulling. Just because you had smooth collies doesn't mean you know how to train, let alone know the basics of pulling. You sound like a complete idiot.

    • @96Chinatown
      @96Chinatown 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well thanks for that!! I will be honest, and say i do not know much about pulling!, i i am 54 and a professional dog trainer and dog handler, i have had all sorts of breeds in my life time, and was pretty much raised by a pack of dogs in the english countryside , i am aware of some breeds that like to pull, !!! so do not call me a complete idiot, as i feel i am talking to one? DO NOT ANSWER THIS!! as i am so fed up with ignorance !!

    I was wondering if you could give me alittle advice...I have a 8 year old golden/chow and a 1 year old rottie/golden. The chow mix pulls perfectly....but the one year old dog is scared of the cart! He pulls tires fine but every time I hook him up to the cart he freaks out! Advice? I would love take them out together.

      I would wait until he's about 3 (so his bones form more) then het him use to the commands on leash and then infrount of you the have him start pulling little tires then when he gets use to it do the cart (with the other dog so he learns) then slowly introduce it to him witht the cart
