A good backyard repair. A couple of things you can do to make it a little nicer are : Sand your primer coat with some 400 wet and dry sandpaper before you spray your finishing coats. Spray at least 4 coats of your final colour and let it dry for about a week. Then sand down the paint with some 2000 wet and dry sandpaper. Then buff it out with some polishing compound. You can do the colour sanding and buffing on the original paint as well and it will bring it right back to a nice shine.

It's my understanding that white is the absolute hardest color to match. Had a body shop guy tell me this and it seems to make sense intuitively, That said, nice job. Looking to tackling some bodywork myself if spring ever decides to actually show up in Colorado this year.

Well done, but it may be a good idea to spray a zinc enriched primer on the bare metal before the Bondo. The repair would last much longer.

The big bubble at 6:45 is because you miced the bondo like cake batter, which in turn adds air to it, always fold when you mix bondo, less air, less problems

You have to hit it with a rust eater product, as soon as you have bare metal it will begin to re- rust.
By the time you mix up your bondo the steel will already be contaminated.

You are best off just to cut the chunk out with the grinder, prime hte area then cut a part of aluminum, tape it in place with metal tape or silicone, body fill and paint.

Guy states this is a quick fix and understands it won't last forever. The funniest part is down here in the comment section where the professionals state, that this is a incorrect way to repair your vehicle and proceed to tell us the right way to do it. MY QUESTION is .. why the "fuck" are the professional body men watching a backyard diy repair job? I know why I came here. You know why you came here. Why the fuck did they come here? Oh right. . Because they watched 5 other videos before this and read the comments and want to sound just as smart..

      Dear@@bendude6748
Maybe you are right. But there are always different ways to get things done. A right and a wrong one, sometimes even a way in the middle of that (in this case rust converter and primer would have been the middle way). In my opinion this special ambulance car will be a keeper because it's relatively unique and a fantastic advertising for his business. It is very recognizable and has a big trunk for transporting things.
Also: In areas with snow and salt no "repair" like this will last more than several weeks until rust gets through again. He didn't even use a rust converter! Yes, of course, he is an absolutely great guy with a lot of decency and skills. And he can be proud of for what he is able to do (at potters house for instance)! But this bad kind of "repair" should definitely not be shown in public, especially not by him. Or do you want to buy something treated like this? I don't think so.
      Best regards.

You didn't get rid of all the rust or treat it with Zinc oxide or rust converter, that's first basic step before you do any filling or sanding or undercoating or spraying and the undercoat/primer should be zinc primer so that it inhibits rust also, that will rust through and the whole corner will probably fall off within a year I'd guess.. I mean if you're not bothered that's one thing, but jees if anyone copies this video it's the worst "tutorial" I've ever seen..

Gotta kill that rust, seal up that bare metal asap. I know it's just a for now but you'd be surprised at how far and bad rust can get when it starts. Use some baby, mineral oil or Vaseline. Tape drain holes, run a brake line down window crack and fill it up about a inch or so. Let sit for a week or drive then drain and save for next time. Ive used ospho for decades. It will kill rust and seal it up. Or Muratic acid or any acid urr ok with. Just use urr brain. That goes without saying but after teens eat tide pods u never know. Rinse with baking soda and water solution. Dry with air or heat. Then prime. I use Car Rep epoxy. It has unlimited shelf life so u can spray a spot now and then also next month. Other 2k primers and coatings have a 24 hour pot life. No good.
