So glad I saw this video this morning after watching so many videos on rust repair now after seeing this video ( using wax paper brilliant by the way) I feel more comfortable for someone doing this for the first time now so much appreciated!!! I'm going to try this on my one wheel well on my truck today !!!
This video was a lifesaver for me late Friday night. I welded what I could in the arches and the upper part was impossible for me due to angles etc couldn't even get a grinder in. After failing with fibreglass for the first time, trying to press it in Nd having it just fall in my face in lumps I was getting frustrated. Did the patch method with a plastic bag, and it worked spot on. Thanks fir sharing this, literally life saving. And I'll definitely use this over welding in the future for some things. Cheers, from south wales UK
The King is back on the tube! Glad to see you! Love that fiberglass putty😁 40 years ago, the shop I worked at made us braze metal patches over the holes, and then cover it with Duraglass. I was glad to skip the brazing part later on. Good vid!
@@undergroundbuilds7 thanks! This TH-cam stuff is a pain sometimes. The sound just quit on my 4K hat cam, and my iPhone is acting up, too. I recorded my first welding demo, and there’s no sound☹️
This is great! So many get hung up on things looking perfect of on making a fix that ends up outliving a used car that probably only has under 5-10 years left anyhow. This is a GREAT way to get it done in a hurry, and get back to work so I can buy something that will last well into the future! :)
I agree that everything doesn’t have to be perfect and you want something that looks decent and gets you back and forth like you want until you get that vehicle that you deem your perfect vehicle!
Thank you my friend for sharing that great idea. I have a similar repair to do and will give it a try . A great cheap and quick way of fixing a hole without the cost of welding . Regards from the UK .

Glad the video was helpful and it’s awesome to hear that you got into body work and have been able to help others 💯 I don’t use the all metal filler but it’s not a bad product! Good luck to you 💪🏾
Well done. Wax paper trick was brilliant, solves the shaping problem straight away, and will come off, unlike aluminum foil. The fiberglass should hold together better than Bondo, which is too heavy, and will fall out of a big hole or bottom repair in one big chunk. Better for minimizing future rust than spray foam, by a long shot.
Heyll Yazz. Thanks for the tips man. I'm working on a square body daily driver. Not a show truck, but I do care about it. Thanks for all your time, an tips. I'm a mechanic not a body man. I need all the help I can get.
I like your effort to repair the rust on your vehicle. It might help your repair look a lot more professional if you looked at some of the auto body repair videos on youtube and then do your repair. I looked at auto body repair videos on youtube for 2 or 3 months before I fixed my rocker panel rust on my truck. I wanted it to look like it was done by a real auto body repair shop and when I finished, it looks really good. The wax paper concept is a great idea. I like anything that I do to look perfect. Thanks for your video, it gave me a few more repair ideas that I had not thought of. Good job!
Great content. Not everybody wants welded patch panels. You gotta bend a little and give them a solution. May not last forever, but is presentable for the near future. Its only temporary until it lasts. Love the videos. I may have to ask your expertise on a fiberglass fill and paint blend over some headlight pockets. I wish you were was local to Dallas.
I agree with you, sometimes you just need a quick fix to get you back on the road and won’t cost you a lot of money and this is just a alternative that people can take. Email me what you’re working on if you want and maybe we can get it figured out!
I call it a win bro! Don’t know if I can do it with my truck, hole is really big. Maybe back it up with some mesh but hey it’s already a rotten turd, hehe😬
Yeah i like the spray foam way slightly better because it fills the hole completely and you can easily shave it down before you put fiberglass mesh on top of it.

Just as a side question, What is the material you use to make those covers for the wheels to protect them from overspray?? I see alot of shops use them but I can never tell if it's old blankets or a different kind of cloth.
it's easier if you have something to line it up with. rebuilding a fender well and fender is kinda rough. not to worry, i have flares lol. holy crap it's ugly welding sheet metal i cut with a jig saw, diablo blades are awesome, and welding fresh metal to rotted stuff. it's a trick to do.
