Revenant AI works against them on normal stats, because it encourages them to close the distance with their target even though their homing missiles mean their big advantage is at range. On Nightmare they don't move in, so their advantage in the fight raises drastically.
That has to do with how the AI in general works in the classic doom games. Every monster attacks in this turret-like way on Nightmare. Decino has a video explaining that.
@@Rofel_Wodring I know - it's just interesting how different monsters are affected so differently by the same underlying behavioural changes. Revenants are probably the most drastically affected by changes encouraging longer ranged attacks.
It just goes to show you how much of a drastic difference enemy aggression is on nightmare difficulty. Especially for enemies that have a melee state. Also, did you know that revenants will never fire their missile attack when they are in 240 units of their target? Except for when you triggered their painstate.
It's less about their melee state and more about hitting each other because they block each others' attacks. Same thing happened with the arachnotrons fighting the spider mastermind. They just keep blocking each others' attacks and don't deal nearly as much damage as they do in nightmare when they go turret mode. With the Cyberdemon, this is vastly enhanced since rockets deal splash damage and therefore can wipe out tightly packed groups quite easily. Would be interesting to see what happens if they're locked onto pedestals that they can't move off of.
I understood from Decino's nightmare analysis video , and this video really showed that. Kinda wished I have come to this channel sooner, Looks interesting.
The only way the Revenants would be able to beat the Cyberdemon on Ultra Violence is if they manage to swarm it enough to glitch it out. Because it needs to take a few steps after it shoots as it doesn't have a melee attack, if they completely block its movement he would be stuck in an infinite loop of trying to take a step while the Revenants punch it to death.
I love that vids like this exist. Really proving doom tourists that nightmare ai and Ultra Violence monste ai are completely different. (And no UV with fast monsters is still not the same as nightmare ai)
if the rockets weren't blocked by other cyberdemons i think the result might have been a bit different. putting them in a different formation might help
The cybers could have done something better in the last fight if one of them didn’t stop rocketing his buddy… Which means if Revenants were placed a bit closer to each others it would have been different.
@@louieosumo Even if you get close enough you're dead, because their melee is pinky-like ridicoulously strong. They're designed to be dangerous in any situation given. They are already threatening enemy by themselves, but nightmare makes them SS-tier demon.

That, and also they don't bunch up together for easy splash damage kills like they do on Ultra-Violence.
2:13 Cyberdemon looking like he entered the wrong hood.
6/30 left he almost pulled a Bruce lee
Perhaps what Summer was thinking, just after she jumped into the horde of white walkers.
That revanant volley on Nightmare 20 vs 1 was something to see
I like how it looks like the Cyberdemon turned away to flee in his very last moments
@@mkge7206 Me too!
Nothing but missiles (or rockets depending on the game tick they fire on) and pelvic thrusting.
I know right. I always thought their firing animation was weird. It’s like they are firing a missile and having a sexual climax at same time.
@@scottallen3907 I thought the same thing! 😆
Revenants on UltraV: "C'mon guys, let's all punch em."
on Nightmare: "Oh right, we have two cannons on our backs"

How different is doom from UV to Nightmare! :o
this on the reboot game would be awesome
If only the five cyber demons didn't waste their rockets on that one revenant in the beginning of the last round.
Any chance of seeing how many of each hit scanner it takes to take down a cyber demon?
